Love the mane color combo! It works well with the metallic peacock. Great job!

Customs / Hokusai - Japanese themed blind bag custom
« on: February 19, 2012, 12:31:48 PM »
My major, studies, work experience, and study abroad experience is all rooted in Japan and Japanese culture. It's only fitting that I make a Japanese custom.

I decided to base her off of the woodblock painting Great Wave Off Kanagawa (bottom right.) Didn't add the boats but I may later.

Started as a Wave 1 blind bag Sweetie Blue, cut off the mane ponytail ends, smoothed, and painted with acryllics. Waiting on a new sealer before sealing.

The kanji on the upper right side shot is "Hokusai," the name of the painting's artist and pony. Normally my kanji is a lot better!

Customs / Flecks in Sealer?
« on: February 17, 2012, 11:03:04 AM »
I was just prepping a blind bag to be painted and I noticed my sealer has weird flecks in it. I checked the custom I painted last night with the same sealer and sure enough it has flecks also, this time green (the same green I used in her mane)

It's never had this problem before, whats going on with my sealer? Is it the sealer itself or just a brush problem? I'm using DecoArt Multi-Purpose Sealer and general "on sale at JoAnn's" soft bristled brushes.

Customs / San (Princess Mononoke) Blind Bag Custom
« on: February 14, 2012, 08:58:07 AM »
This is my second custom ever. While the face didn't come out the way I wanted, the colors and mark did! She does have a little fur cloak, I took shots of her without it.

The weather worked out great. I took her shots outside while it was very gently snowing. She is photographed with my arctic wolf tail.

Started as a Twilight Sparkle. Amputated the horn and carved in the mane grooves where it was. Painted with acryllics and sealed. Arm bands are black yarn.

Off Topic / Re: Anyone live in Japan?
« on: February 07, 2012, 08:10:25 PM »
I just got back to the US from a 7 month stay in Japan two months ago. I did a 2 month internship in Tokyo and a 5 month study abroad in Iwate prefecture. I can try my best to answer!

Just wondering if some places really have signs that say no gaijin because I'm working on a degree to move to japan and teach english there and I don't want to be 'unwanted' lol
As far as I know, this is pretty uncommon nowadays. It's not unheard of to have those signs on public baths in port cities (mostly out of the assumption that foreigners don't know the Japanese way of doing things.)

You should be fine if you learn about Japanese culture and what to do in various situations. Even trying and failing is fine, it's the effort that counts!

I worked on and off on this for three days. I kept putting it aside and coming back to it, but I'm glad I finished it! (Signature is my art gallery. Different name, same artist!)

Introductions / Hello hello!
« on: February 07, 2012, 06:03:24 PM »
Hey! I'm Corona. I used to have MLP toys as a kid in the early 90s, they're long gone now. With G4 and the new show I've rediscovered my love for MLP. I have a few of the G4 toys and I just started getting into minor customs.

Hope I can learn how to do better on customs here!
