Ooh, I like the idea of the Shutterfly book as well! That would be really cool. :)

It's been bothering me more and more lately that it seems like ponies and other girl's toys just don't get much when it comes to collectibles. I mean, I was just at Toys R Us a few days ago and they had a giant wall of retro Power Rangers stuff for the 20th Anniversary, and there were retro-styled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles too. I have also seen retro He-Man figures recently, and it seems like every time you turn around Hasbro is reissuing retro Star Wars figures.

Why don't they do the same thing with the girl's toys? Why don't we get retro reissues of things like Littlest Pet Shop, Polly Pocket, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, or Care Bears? My Little Pony turns 30 this year, and as far as I know, there are no plans for any type of retro reissues. But yet, if one of the boy lines was turning 30 they'd be all over that. I just... don't really get it, and I wonder why that is. I don't know, maybe it's just me... but doesn't it seem like we always get the short end of the stick?

I posted a little bit more about this in my new blog if anyone would like to read it:

I love Flowerburst... she's so pretty! :) I would say in perfect shape with her earring she is probably worth about $10-$12... she can get cancer spots or discoloration pretty frequently. But with no earring, that unfortunately devalues her quite a bit. Maybe $7-8 if she is nice otherwise with no discoloration or cancer spots.

Maybe you could try making a catalog of your collection? That is something I have always wanted to do. You know, take pictures of everything you have, and maybe write descriptions with their names and how you got them, their condition, how much they're worth, any accessories you have that go with them, etc. You could probably put it online somewhere, and it would be a good record to have of everything in your collection.

Pony Corral / Re: Are you an active or retired collector?

I am not really actively collecting at the moment... I have a small collection of about 100 ponies and I'm pretty happy with it the way it is, in all honesty. There are a couple G2's I'm still looking for, but otherwise I'm pretty much done. However, there are some upgrades I need, and I enjoy having complete ponies (I mean with everything, including the backcards and stickers!) so there are still some accessories and backcards and such I'm hunting for. I check eBay almost every day but I haven't bought a pony for me in... oh, probably about a couple months now. I have found several backcards and stickers though, which is great.

I have had a bigger collection in the past but it just gets to be too much for me. And now I just like to sit and enjoy the ones I have, rather than feel like I have to keep adding to them.

I had a Banana Surprise when I was a little girl... she definitely had a distinctive smell. It was supposed to be banana split I think.

I didn't know the soda ponies were supposed to smell!

Oh, that's awesome! I was wondering when and if those would show up for retail sales somewhere besides online.

What a great topic! :) For me, ponies have definitely brightened up my rooms and my life. I can look at a pony on my shelves or take it down and brush its hair and everything just feels better somehow. It has also brought me to the Arena and the pony collecting community, and all of the amazing people here.

And I am trying to launch my own vintage toy business at the moment, which I might not have ever done without ponies! I started out just selling extra ponies from lots I bought while trying to build up my own collection, and I found out I enjoyed it so much I kept doing it. And even though ponies aren't all I sell anymore, I do still sell a lot of them. Probably because I love them more than any other toy, and because pony collectors have always been such a joy to deal with. :)

Ooh, thanks for the info, popyduggan! Gah, now I don't know if I should wait and see what I get from the Starter Pack I ordered, or take advantage of the sale. I am torn! ;)

I created some Zelfs fan art! I made a picture of Elfa. You can see it here on my Deviantart page:

Yay! :) My husband spoiled me. I got medium Elfa, a mini Angelala and two blind bag ponies last night! I think the Angelala is a pearly one too. I also have a mini Buttershy. So here is my little collection so far, along with the blind bags:

I would love to get Lunanne! And I also like Spelinda a lot. :)

There is a special offer on this website if anyone is interested! You can get a Starter Pack of Zelfs for $20, and as of this posting you also get an additional Starter Pack free... so you get 2 large, 2 medium, and 2 mini Zelfs all for $20 plus shipping. I ordered one and shipping was $9.99 so that's still a great deal! The sets are random so I'm not sure what I will get... but since I don't have that many yet, odds are it will be something I don't have yet!

As far as I know, the way User ID's show up through eBay's new system is not necessarily how their ID's are shown in real life... the only way you can tell it's someone's ID is if you know their feedback number. eBay disguises the ID to protect their bidders. So for example, my eBay ID is valenshy and my feedback is currently 1536. But any bids I make could show up on eBay's bid lists as x****g (1536), even though my name does not start with an x or end with a g. That's just the way eBay chooses to show it.

But that is funny that it worked out that way! :)

I think the Zelf is called Buttershy... but I can't remember. And I haven't seen the Clover one yet either! But I have only found them at Toys R Us so far. They only had one of each style, and a couple of them were already gone. So maybe someone else nabbed her.

Anyway, I love these! I have one of the mini blind bag type ones, and I'm hoping my husband comes home with at least one of the medium ones today if he remembers to stop at Toys R Us after work. Maybe I'll take pics later. I said I liked a couple of different ones so I'm not sure which one he'll get... I'm really hoping for the yellow one though!

There is a coupon for 15% off your entire purchase on ToysRUs.com if anyone needs it. You can use it both in the store and online. That's how I convinced my husband to get one for me!

Well, I hardly ever find ponies anyway! If it's a G1 I almost always buy it, unless the price is ridiculously high. G3's I will leave if they are common, in bad shape, or again, if the price is high. I will also almost always pass on McDonalds ponies, Core 7 G3's, G3.5's, and the Mane 6 for G4, unless I ever find a Fashion Style Applejack, of course. ;)

Sorry everyone... this move has just gutted me! :/ I haven't been online very much at all for the entire month of April, oy!

Things are finally settling in now, so I will work on getting the sign-up post ready. I just need a mod to approve it first, and then I will start a new post.

I always love seeing people's collections! Thanks for posting pics. :)

I just had to pack up all my ponies because we're moving to a new place! This is my little herd. I'm going to miss those shelves! You can also see my Applejack collection in the first picture if you look towards the bottom left. I forgot to snap a picture of it before I packed it away, but ah well.
