Pony Corral / Re: Funny or awful ways your ponies have been shipped
« on: February 06, 2018, 06:07:14 AM »
This thread makes me want to ship things in boxes from Costco or a grocery store. Get a load of ponies in a ground turkey box or a banana box, or a box from a different line of toys

I did get an action figure shipped in a shoebox from the UK once.

It might be a cultural thing - many people in the UK use re-cycled packaging and have done for generations.
As long as the item is carefully packaged within I don't think many people mind - it's often quite amusing to see the mismatch between the original use of the box and it's subsequent re-purposing.

I'd love to join in, sounds such fun.

With regard to natural horse markings I'm in two minds - half of me says yes,  dapples for example could look awesome. However markings and colour in horses is very complex and there are just so many variations between and within breeds. How do people feel about having a pony they feel has a look of  a real-life breed in fantasy form sporting a coat pattern that it would never have genetically? (this applies particularly to paint/pinto patterns).  For example, I think the boy ponies have a 'look' of Fell or Dales ponies who have no or miniscule white markings and even though these are fantasy toys it would still not sit quite right to have a pinto version, dapples yes.  Hope that makes sense.............

Pony Corral / Re: Pony community awareness groups?
« on: February 04, 2018, 01:55:17 AM »
Would another way be to have a Pony Team at a community/charity event like carnival, raft races, fetes etc. A pony activity/ stall set up at a larger event could be lots of fun too...... Barnacle's treasure hunt game at a seaside village fete for example?

ETA:  Any sort of public display or event takes an enormous amount of planning and work - and things happen to props, information flyers and merchandise so be aware.
Sometimes local charities would love to have a new theme and help for an event - worth suggesting joining forces?

Wysteria, and the rest of you involved in the project - thank you for these ponies, they are utterly delightful.

Your glorious Dasher has rekindled my love of collecting, and is admired by non-MLP folk.
Am now eagerly awaiting the Valentine's release.

Oh lawks!
How difficult, and I've only got a few ponies, and there's many many out there I've never seen......

out of the few I have

G1
Snuzzle, 'cos she was the first
My scruffy Beachball, (which is the one I won't upgrade because I love his 'a life well lived' look)
Gypsy
Moonstone
Flowerburst
Wigwam
Quarterback (though mine's known as FlyHalf)

G2
Clever Clover, I think he looks quite cool

G3
Brights Brightly, love her colours

The 10th would have to be Dasher who is very much a favourite.

Can we cheat and have favourite groups as well :) ?  Mine live in the china cabinet and have sort of migrated into little tableaux.

I don't know these ponies, or their backstory, so looking at them without any past memories.......

They strike me as water-nymph ponies who would live by the headwaters of a mountain stream.

So their names could be  watery like Cascade, Ripple, Spring, Diamond Droplet;
or nature-based like Moss, Dragonfly, Celandine, Nymph

Pony Corral / Re: best fabric materials for DIY ponywear (G1 and HQG1C)

Thanks

Most of my crafting fabrics are recycled or vintage so they always get washed carefully before use (found that out the hard way when I trimmed a dress with vintage lace and had a lovely tidemark on my wrists!!). I've plenty of white polycotton and cotton so I'll line doubtful fabrics in that before putting on ponies.

Thanks for the tip about denim PKW

PS PKW, just noticed your location - another Babylon 5 fan perhaps? Hubby and I are enjoying the re-run on Pick channel at the moment.

You know, I could totally see Dasher in that job. His colour scheme is just perfect. He just needs a little red dragon to accompany him and he's sorted.

Absolutely!!
What a good idea re the dragon - actually we've got one that's really a Christmas tree ornament..............
I thought that I liked Dasher because he looks like a multi-coloured version of our Fell pony - but there could have been a subliminal nation thing going on too as I'm Welsh :) .

For the Six Nations he's got Welsh dragons on either side of his little rug and red, white and green ribbons in his tail instead of his yellow one.

Let's hope he has the right effect on the team :)

Apologies if this has been covered before......

Are there any fabrics or materials that stain or otherwise damage the vinyl of G1 ponies if used for ponywear over a few weeks?

Also are there any materials to be wary of with the glorious HQG1C models?
My Dasher has a little 'job' over the next few weeks - he's going to be a mascot for Wales in the Six Nations rugby tournament. I've made him a red rug out of cotton jersey (with welsh dragons natch!) and because red dye can be notorious for staining have lined it with white cotton. Is cotton OK on the vinyl. Dasher was obviously bought new and would not want to damage him.

Thanks

Thank you all for the welcome.

I've found the preservation project website, what a fab resource.

The pony clothes I make are very simple - themed rugs, crazy hats for ponies having a bad hair day, Christmas tableaux, alternative bandanas for the boys etc.  I'll sort out some pics of some if people would like to see them though they are nothing like the fabulous creations that are around.  I think most pics are likely to be of Beachball modelling (he's probably the scruffiest pony I've got, though I love him just as he is) and he always seems to be the one to hand when I'm crafting. Hence the username :)

Snuzzle came on her own, with a comb and ribbon - she was a present, bought new from a toy shop is all I remember.
We are trying to remember if she arrived in 83 or 84.

I love her colours and her '80s hair-do. She's wearing her years well :)

Thanks for the welcome and I'll have a nosey at the restoration questions, hopefully they will answer one question I'd like to find out about this week about types of fabric for DIY ponywear that doesn't harm the vinyl

Introductions / Hello from UK
« on: January 28, 2018, 01:37:17 PM »
Hello all,
Have grown up with G1 and have a small collection of G1 ponies, including my first, the original Snuzzle. Over the years other ponies have joined her in our china cabinet from various places, not  always in good condition. I hope that I can pick your brains on how best to look after them.

Am from a family of crafters so it's second nature to have some fun with the ponies and make them hats and other accessories for special occasions/events. They make us smile. We've had, and still have, various breeds of British native ponies all my life which is probably why I love that essence of 'ponyness' of G1.

Looking forward to talking to you all
