Pony Corral / Re: Valuable Childhood Ponies in Your Collection?
« on: April 08, 2012, 07:32:40 PM »
I had all six MO Pearly Babies which I got right at the end of my childhood pony-collecting days, so they basically go taken out of their bags, brushes a few times and then packed away. Luckily, I had no girl cousins, so they weren't given away as hand-me-downs (unlike my Star Wars toys and He-Man toys).  When I got into pony collecting as an adult and my mom sent me my childhood ponies, I ended up trading them for other ponies that I really wanted.

Pony Corral / Re: Cigarette-smelling ponies... what can I do?
« on: April 08, 2012, 08:38:06 AM »
Burying them in clean non-scented cat litter for a few weeks will get rid of the smell, in my experience. I had some ponies from ebay that absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke and (of all things) cat pee. A month buried in Tidy Cats did the trick. I don't remember what specific kind of Tidy Cats it was... presumably multiple cat since I had four cats at the time. I do know it was unscented because I had a cat who hated scented litter and wouldn't use it. It was also definitely clay litter and not the fancy corn or walnut or newspaper stuff. I have no idea if they would work the same.

If you have a cat, great, just use the litter as intended after the ponies have had their de-scenting. If not, keep the litter in your car for traction issues on ice in the winter. Or just keep it around for any future stinky ponies. :)

Hope this helps!

Pony Corral / Re: What color is Twinkle-eyed Galaxy supposed to be?

Found it!

Obviously, that's not the hair the faded one came with. I liked her faded hair colors so much, I rehaired her with new nylon hair in the same (approximately) colors.

But yeah, the bright pink Galaxy has no marks or regrind on her and she's the same color in and out. I find it hard to believe regrind could be so uniform, so I think that she's just a variation, since Galaxy was released in both waves of TEs, if I remember correctly.

I have both versions of Galaxy: one is the usual purpley-pink color and the other is a bright, almost neon pink.  To add even more confusion, I have another Galaxy who is most definitely faded because she is a very peachy pink and, when I got her, her hair was also bleached and brittle. I'm thinking someone left her in a window or a car's dash or something. I have comparison pictures somewhere. I'll dig around for them on my break. :)

Customs / Has Anyone Done...?
« on: March 24, 2012, 06:29:52 PM »
I've seen people restyle their G4 mane six to be more show accurate. Mine are still in their boxes, so I haven't tried my hand at it. But has anyone tried it with Miss Cherilee and the Cute Mark Crusaders?  I have them out of their boxes and their hair is driving me nuts!  I want to try and style them to be show accurate, but I'm not sure how.  Anyone have any ideas?

Wow! Neat.  What are the CMC riding in? are those G3 Breezie cars?

LOL. Yes, I put them in there for the pictures and they fit so nicely, I think I'll leave them.

Pony Brag Arena / TRU Haul!
« on: March 23, 2012, 08:07:55 AM »
So I went to work yesterday morning despite having a raging headache. I took some tylenol, but by 11 o'clock I was ready to tear my eyes out. My boss was nice enough to let me go home at 12 instead of making me tough it out until 4:30. Naturally, by the time I got home, my headache was gone. So, with some time to kill, I called my girlfriend to see if maybe we could go on a little trek to Toys "R" Us. The closest one to us is tiny and has almost no ponies, so I wanted to drive further out to the big TRU in Niles.  She said sure and we headed out there. Truthfully, I wasn't expecting much.

But i managed to come out with a great haul!

I got the gift pack of blind-bag-sized ponies. And I found Diamond Rose and Cherry Pie. There were a bunch of blind bags, so I got three for myself, one for my girlfriend's daughter who was with us (she wanted Pinkie), and one for her son who is turning 13 this week (he wanted Rainbow Dash). I also bought him the Rainbow Dash that comes with a scooter and her little pet turtle. My blind bags turned out to be Rose Luck, Sugar Grapes, and Firecracker Burst. I also got the school pack with Cherilee, Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo!

I'll post pics this afternoon when I get home.  :)

Pony Corral / Tips on sunfading and getting out ingrained dirt?
« on: March 19, 2012, 11:01:50 AM »
So I got a few ponies in a good lot and some of them have ingrained dirt, particularly on the hooves and legs and on the tips of their ears and (for the unicorn) horn.  I tried some acetone and it got some surface stuff off, but it's still very apparent.

Any tips for getting ingrained dirt off?

Also, I have a few ponies with bright red/orange lines on the NDS sides/bellies. Looks like they were from a marker. Again, acetone didn't budge them. How do I go about sunfading these? I've never done it before.

Thanks!

Well, as per Disney, pretty much any feminine title except Princess is given to a nasty character.

Evil Queen in Snow White
Lady Tremaine in Cinderella
Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland
Queen Jadis in Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe
Evil Queen in Willow (not Disney, but the association is there and her daughter, the princess, starts out evil and ends up good)
Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty (she's not given a title, but she certainly seems to "rule" over her many demonic-looking minions, while the good faeries have no underlings at all)
Ursula (is royalty of some kind since she references having lived in the palace before)

The other variation of this is that the Queen serves only to be mom/role model to the princess/prince... in these cases, often she's not even given a name beyond "the queen"...

The Queen in Bug's Life
The Queen in Tangled
Queen Clarion in the Tinkerbell movies
Queen in Sleeping Beauty
Queen Athena in Little Mermaid 3
Queen Sarabi in Lion King
Hera in Hercules

Due to their source material (classic faerie tales and legends) women in power are usually portrayed as dangerous or, the other side of the coin, motherly... with dangerous being far more common since men were often penning these old stories and found the idea of powerful woman to be intimidating. Thus the archetype of a "princess" is much more common. Disney is not truly to blame, they are just using what history had given them.

This being said, they have branched out with strong, non-princess female characters; Mulan, Belle, and I very interested to see the new Pixar flick Brave.

Thus, when Lauren Faust and her team decided to make Celestia and Luna princesses, rather than Queens or Empresses or what-have-you, they were merely choosing what most people deem to be a less-threatening title.

Or maybe I am reading too much into this. :)

Customs / My Re-Hairing Tool Broke! HALP!
« on: March 17, 2012, 08:52:57 PM »
I had just started rehairing my Baby Lucky Leaf and the needle snapped!  Dollyhair seems to be behind on needles, as is pop-girl, judging from the link in the Stickied thread.

Does anyone have rehairing tools for sale?

After a VERY long dry spell of not buying any ponies at all, I finally had some spare funds for a pony spree.

Why, who is THAT back there?

MIMIC!

I do already have a Mimic, but this girl was stuck in a lot with Braided Beauty and Daddy Sweet Celebrations. Only one pic and it was hard to tell her condition. So I gambled and won the lot for $69.

She got here today and she's actually in better shape than I thought. I just gave her a bath and need to attack a few marks with acetone. I *might* touch up her faded spots on her symbols. But her hair is lovely, just needed a wee bit of conditioner.

Once she's all cleaned up, I'll prolly put her or the one I already have up for sale (depending on who's nicer).

And I have expanded my small Italian collection with that Italian Starflower!  She's SO pretty! I have to say, I much prefer the metallic symbols on these Italian girls to the sparkly paint we had in the US. She'll join my small Italian herd of Applejack, White Tootsie, Bubbles, Seashell, Peachy, and Sparkler. Hooray for my first Italian Rainbow pony!

Baby Lucky Leaf is one of my little grails! She's just so cute!  This little sweetie is in serious need of a rehair and I just ordered some hair for her.  It's hard to see in the pic, but half of her mane is chopped up and her tail's been snipped as well. Besides, my ponies mean all the more to me when I've had to spend an hour or two rehairing them.  Just ask my Lemon Treats. :)

Baby Alphabet is so cute!  I never realized she had freckles before!  I picked her up from the same seller when I bought Italy Starflower and Baby Lucky Leaf just because I like to pick up several ponies at a time to save on shipping.  And I only have one other UK baby. Baby Bow Tie was lonely! Now to find a Baby Applejack!

I think I spent roughly $100 for all of them, including shipping. Seems like a lot, but considering Mimic can go for that all by herself, I think I did pretty good!

I'll post pics again once they are all cleaned and styled and (in Lucky Leaf's case) rehaired.

UPDATE - 3/24/2012

OK, here they are all cleaned up and styled.

These lovelies didn't need much other than a bath and some styling. I still can't get over how pretty Italian Starflower is!

Baby Lucky Leaf here got a full re-hair and she looks lovely! She still has some marks on her NDS that I may try to sun-fade. Mimic here cleaned up nice too!  Still has some ingrained dirt on her hooves that I may try to muscle out, but she's looking fine, huh?

The flutter ponies.  I got a lot off of ebay that had most of them in it already. Hollywood took the longest to track down, being that I wasn't willing to spend $50 for her. :) I eventually found her hidden in a lot of sweetheart sisters.
