Pony Corral / My First G1 Pony! *advice needed*
« on: October 16, 2013, 09:36:15 AM »
Twice as fancy Milky Way just arrived today!     And she is gorgeous.  She is just a little bit grubby, but overall she is quite lovely.  I have wanted a G1 pony to add to my collection for a long time, and when I saw this pretty girl on eBay I knew that I really wanted her.  She is in even better condition than I expected from the photographs.  That being said, she is still kind of a "project pony", and I want to make sure I do this right!  I have read some tutorials, but I just want to double check some stuff with you guys.
  • Is it safe to clean a TAF pony with regular dish soap?  I don't want to rub her symbols off.
  • She has some nail polish on her front leg, can I use nail polish remover to get it off?
  • Her mane and tail are lovely, but I still want to wash them.  If I get her tail too wet can it cause tail rust?
  • A couple of her stars are a little bit rubbed off, I am a good painter, should I touch them up?
Sorry for asking millions of questions

EDIT:  There is a little mark on her side that looks like it may be a little cancer spot.  I don't think it is, it looks more like a scuff.  But if it is cancer, can it spread to my other ponies?
If anyone has any additional advice to offer me, I would love it.  I'm just so excited that I finally have her! :newpony:

My first G1 finally arrived in the mail!  But... she is at my Dad's house so I need to wait until he has a chance to drop her off with me.  The anticipation is killing me!  I cannot wait to see what her condition is like in person, plus I am just really excited to own her.

This is very stuck in my head now!   It's quite catchy  :frolic:
Applejack is one of my all time favorite ponies, so I must say I approve of it being Applejack month!

Pony Corral / Re: Labelling ponies
« on: October 13, 2013, 11:24:48 PM »
My MLPs are not labeled (yet), but so far it is just my G3s from when I was little, and the G3.5s and G4s that I have just continued to buy throughout the years.  I have a really good memory for names, so I have never felt the need to label them.  Anyway, I don't really have that many variants, just some like "Pinkie Pie with Tinsel" and "Pinkie Pie without Tinsel", although I'm sure that there is a more specific name for them, I just don't know it yet .  Eventually I would like to label them, especially since I have just started to collect G1 ponies (my first G1 is currently in the mail!!).

I do, however, label my Breyer Horse collection because I have more Breyer horses than MLPs in my collection, and I take them to model horse shows, so they need to be labeled for judging purposes, and keeping track of them in general.  It is also useful to have what breed they are cataloged in case I forget.  I label them with string tags written on in pencil looped around one of their back hooves.  Additionally, I write down any information about the model (year produced, year bought, show placings, etc.) in a notebook.

When I start to label my ponies (hopefully soon), I will use the method I use for my Breyers  :)

I have never seen her before (I am very, very new to G1).  She is really cute!  I love the color combination, and her pose is really cute, too.

Ooooh!  This sounds really fun!   I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.  Hopefully I'll be able to put together an entry, too.

Pony Corral / Re: La La Loopsy minis?!

Cute!  I never knew that they made little mini La La Loopsy ponies like that.  I have 4 of the standard sized ones that have the curly manes and tails.  The ones I have are Macadamia, Cashew, Tea Biscuit, and Scone.  I think the names they come with are adorable.  The designs are super cute, too.  Whenever I see them in stores I grab one to add to my collection.  They look cute with my MLPs.  Now I need to pick up some of these mini ones!  The poses are really terrific.  :)

Pony Corral / Re: Do you play?

From the time I was a little kid onward I have mainly liked to set up scenes.  When I have time sometimes I'll just set them all up to tell some kind of story.  That is how I play with mine.  It is very relaxing to arrange all of them and their accessories and everything.  When I was little I would play the same way, except if I was playing with a friend, and then the ponies would have more interaction and more moving around!  I'm sure that it would be the same way now, because my friend and I still play with our breyer horse toy collections on occasion.  All my friends that used to like My Little Pony when we were little got rid of their ponies, though.

Pony Corral / Re: who was your first mlp?

Tinka Tinka Too (G3) was my first pony.  I was the target age Hasbro was intending when G3 came out.  For some reason, when the ads were on TV I was ridiculously opposed to MLP because they didn't look like real ponies... Strange reasoning, I know.   I can't believe that I was ever opposed to MLP!  Then I saw a display of them in a store, and I was completely enamored by them.  My Mom and Dad bought one for me.  I can remember my Dad asking me "Purple, or Pink?" (aka Tinka Tinka Too or Pinkie Pie).  I adored her, and took her everywhere.  I still have her, and she is in quite nice condition.  Her hair is a little frizzy at the ends, but not terrible.

Hi all!  I'm HelloGoodbye and I am very excited to be here!  I have been into collecting MLPs for about as long as I can remember.  G3 came out just at the right time to totally enthrall me as a kid.  My first pony was Tinka Tinka Too.  I still have my whole G3 collection from when I was little, and a good amount of play sets, thanks to a very generous aunt!  I never stopped collecting MLPs, so I have both G3, G3.5, and G4 ponies.  I love all the generations, but I have a soft spot for G3 since that is where I started my collection.  G4 is also nice, and I love the cartoon.  I just made my first foray into G1 (yay!) by purchasing a Milky Way pony on eBay.  She has not arrived yet, and is apparently in somewhat rough shape, but I am excited to go through the process of restoring her.  I have wanted to get into G1 ponies for some time, and I am glad that I finally have.  There are no G2 ponies in my collection yet, but I hope to change that soon!

Outside of MLP, I have been horseback riding for my whole life, and am at the barn basically every day to ride my mare.  I enjoy jumping and competing at horse shows.  I am also completely obsessed with the Beatles (hence my username!) and I love other classic rock bands such as the Grateful Dead and the Who.  In my free time, I do a lot of art, especially drawing, painting with water colors, and sewing.  I collect other toys, too (Breyer horses and LPS, mainly).

I am thrilled to be here!  :newpony:
