Oh, golly, it's been so long!

I wanted to share this gal with you, since I posted about her a while back asking for advice, and y'all were so helpful.  I especially want to thank pop-girl, who suggested a blend of Vampire Kiss and Cherry Pie, which turned out to be the perfect blend.  Thank you!

Colors:

Red: Vampire Kiss x Cherry Pie
Light Green: Envy with a few strands of Key Lime thrown in
Dark Green: Poison Ivy
Silver Accents: Starlight

There are things that I wish I had done differently, and I am still not sure I like her as well with the curly hair -- it changed her personality a lot! -- but I learned a lot and she's still so adorable, so I am really proud of her.

She's up for auction on eBay right now (I am not sure if I am allowed to put the link here) and I am really, really happy to see that she has some high bids!

Thanks for looking!  I hope you enjoy!

I just lol-ed so hard.  This is BRILLIANT and I love it and you nailed the expression spot-on, which I would not have thought possible on a pony.  Win.

Well done.  Very well done.

Thank you!  That's what I was thinking.  The repaint is going to be fairly dark, and somewhat variegated to boot, which I figure ought to be just the thing. . . .  I may try to plot the design to specifically cover those spots, too, just to further obscure things.

Oh, hey, everyone!  Long time no been here.  IRL stuff: not so pleasant.  Ponies: much more happy-making, and I could use that.  Sheesh, whatta couple of months!

Soooo, I found a pose I really like for a planned custom with a full body repaint, and I found a pony in that pose, but it has some brown "cancer" spots and so on.  Now, I don't care, obviously, because I'll be doing a full repaint in beige and brown, but what I want to know is will it eventually affect the paint I put over it?  Does anyone know?

Sing to me your songs of covering up stuff with paint!

Y'all so awesome.

@ Pop-Girl and ColorscapesArt: Thank you!  Exactly the info I was looking for!

@ KittyBethy: I KNOW!  I love the color sooo much, it is sooo lush and gorgeous and saturated, and I really wanted it to work for her.  :(

@ everyone: Thank you!  She's my fourth or fifth, and I'm really quite proud of her.

My other option is just doing her hair in Starlight, with a red stripe of Cherry pie in the mane flanked by, like, two plugs' worth of Envy and Poison Ivy.  In small amounts the Cherry Pie is just fine.  I KNOW it would look fantastic, I tested the colors next to her and all that, but it changes the character of the pony completely from what I had intended her to be.

Rose Pony under construction 2 by Naamah Darling, on Flickr

That's her!  You can click to see more pics in my photostream.

She's had her eyes finished since I took this and everything's all sealed up and ready to go, I just need to find the right hair color.

I want to do red hair with a green stripe in it, and I have a couple of greens I love, but I have not found a red I like.  I've been ordering from Dollyhair.com.

Here is what I have tried, and all these colors are nylon:

Pomme d'Amour - this is a gorgeous tomato orange color, but not what I needed
Cherry Pie - almost freakin' perfect, but too bright and a teeny tiny itty bitty bit too orange; I need something darker and a tiny bit less orange-y
Volcano - I thought this would be perfect, but it's really a very saturated red-auburn and not really a red-red at all
Venom - too dark and way too purple

I need something that is, like, a few shades darker than Cherry Pie, which is SO close to being what I need.  I'd dye it but I'm not set up for that, and have never done it before, and would rather not go there.

I am looking at these colors in Dollyhair's saran hair section:

Pillarbox Red - may be my best choice, what do you all think? Can someone tell me how it compares to Cherry Pie?
Torch Auburn - can't tell how "auburn" it really is
Scarlet Auburn - again, don't know how "auburn" she means
Flame Auburn - almost certainly too orange, but still pretty

I am happy to order or create a blend, even, if anyone has recommendations.

Thanks!

She is SO BEAUTIFUL.  I LOVE the colors you chose for her hair, and how perfectly they go with the wings!  And the speckled/spatter pattern on her eyes is breathtaking!

Wanted! / WTB Big Brother Baits!
« on: January 22, 2012, 03:57:19 AM »
My first wanted post!  I hope I'm doing everything right!

I really don't want to ruin a perfectly good Big Brother, and eBay makes me kinda angry, so I'm looking to buy some Big Brothers, preferably Steamer or possibly Quarterback pose.  They will be used for customizing.

I'm planning a full body repaint on the boy I really want to work on next, so I can take ponies that are really stained or marked up.  I would also like to find a bait-condition Chief, though, since I'm planning a white-based Big Brother custom at some point, and white full body repaints are never quite as nice as a pony that started out white.

I would prefer ponies without chew marks or dents or whatnot, since I have limited sculpting skills at this point and am not confident I could repair that.  I do not care what condition the hair is in as it will be replaced fully.  I looove rerooting!

I can pay via Paypal and am only looking to buy outright as I have nothing at all decent to trade yet.
