Pony Corral / Re: Taking advantage of collectors?
« on: July 17, 2016, 06:21:29 AM »
These days I would pay a higher price if I found a pony at a flea market just because of the novelty of it. It's been ages since I found a pony "in the wild."

I try to avoid saying I'm a collector or I say I'm just getting into it. I think it's true that people hear you're a collector and dollar signs go off or they think all mlp are worth tons. Even my friends when they hear I collect think since they are so old all of them are automatically worth a lot and I have to correct them and note that a lot of the common ones are $3-$5 unless mint.

As for being taken advantage of, it sucks. But that's where you have to decide that you'll only pay so much and pick and choose. If a pony is way overpriced then you need to be willing to walk away. I've made offers for ponies before on kijiji and had them turned down only for a few weeks later to have the seller message me and take my offer due to no other interest.

As for it going both ways it can. I think all of us have at some point found a crazy steal of a deal when pony hunting and have been internally dancing with glee at the low price. I know I have.

Pony Corral / Re: Rarest or least common Sea Pony?
« on: July 17, 2016, 06:14:09 AM »
For me I've seen the most white caps and sea mists but maybe that's because they're more Distinguishable. I think wave jumper and high tide I see the least. Oh, and also the Italians. For baby sea ponies it's the sparkle ones with the neck designs I rarely see.

Looking for G1 and G4 comics in any condition.  I just want them for the art work mostly and I have virtually none.  Would prefer to buy in a lot to save on shipping.  If you're looking to offload some of your older issues or doubles message me :)

Thank you everyone! I was pretty pleased with how the te eyes turned out as well. The two "twinkles" are actually metallic thread so they're a little more shiny in person.

For those asking about pricing the 22" ones start at $125 and there's a little bit extra for some symbols, tafs or TE's and the large ones are around $175.

If you're going to be at the fair this year you can stop by my booth and check them out in person. You may even get to cuddle one :)

Awesome article and it was a fun read! I remember my first ebay pony that started it all too! It's like once you get one you can't stop yourself.  :)

Playsets and BBE

I'm surprised so many people are saying G3.5.  I would think that since they were out such a short time and not well received that in the future if any G3's became htf or "rare" it would be those ones.  Plus they're a little cute...in a big headed way

Finally got a chance to take pics of a few more.  I can't believe how fast the fair is coming up.  SeaMist, Sweet Stuff and Bright Eyes are in the larger 36" style and the rest are the new 22" ones.  Hope you all like them.  :)

sorry if I'm hijacking your thread but just curious the going rate for common issues?  I wanted to get a few just for me own reading and the art work but not looking to complete a collection by any means or acquire rare ones.

Pony Corral / Re: How much stuffing does a Jumbo G3 plush need?
« on: April 27, 2016, 06:27:14 AM »
Not very helpful other than to say A LOT! Bags and bags.  Although when they are originally stuffed there is cardboard tubes in the legs to help them hold their shape.  Sort of like two V's are formed by taping the ends of and stuffed down the front and back.  In some of the giant plushies I've made I haven't had cardboard tubes strong enough handy so I went and bought cheap plastic piping from the hardware store. IMO that ended up being way stronger anyway.  That might save you a little bit of stuffing at least.

Pony Corral / Re: Insurance on collections?
« on: April 27, 2016, 06:21:36 AM »
When I had a house fire in 2005 our general insurance policy covered my ponies.  I had to print out ebay auctions and such to show the values.  I had 30+ MOC's ruined as well as loose ponies.  They even paid to have some of the ones I had stored in bins that the smoke didnt seem to get into cleaned just in case. A little fact I learned was that even if you pull something out of the house that doesnt seem too damaged by smoke it can slowly turn grey or black over the course of days after so it's best to have them treated.   Also the smoke reek could take years and years if ever to leave.

I would say my claim for ponies was probably in the $3000+ range although I'm sure the actual value may have been more. And it would have been triple that if I hadn't been able to salvage the ponies that were sealed in plastic air tight bins.  I think that was just luck of the draw with who we got to work with for our claim from the insurance company.

Wanted! / Wanted G1 Comics
« on: April 27, 2016, 06:11:10 AM »
Looking to buy some of the G1 mlp comics.  Would prefer to buy a few at a time to combine shipping.  I'm also going to the pony fair this year so I would be happy to pay and pick up there.
