Price Check Archives / G4 price checks? Pretty please :)
« on: June 21, 2015, 08:11:06 AM »
I'd like to sell off my G4 collection and obviously need prices, but the eBay listings I've been looking at are really all over the place and are just confusing me, so I'd really appreciate some help from the experts here  ^.^

Some special edition brushables, I have no idea about prices for these  :

Star Swirl, loose, without accessories
Fluttershy from the nursery tree set, loose with the tree and all accessories
Pinkie Pie valentines version MIB

Regular brushables (loose, with accessories), would it be fair to sell them for 5 USD each or are any rarer?

Lily Blossom
Dewdrop Dazzle
Applejack with bangs
Twilight Sparkle with bangs
Lyra
Blossomforth
Rarity

I also have some other basic stuff like loose wave one blind bags (incl. purple glitter Twilight Sparkle and pink glitter Pinkie Pie), I assume it would be okay to sell these at about 3-4 USD a piece?

Thanks in advance for the help, if anyone would like anything just PM me :)

Off Topic / Re: Using Facebook?
« on: January 13, 2015, 04:10:21 AM »
Facebook is kindof an accumulation of people I've met over the years, as I always feel a bit guilty about deleting people, even if we don't speak any more. However I may soon delete it down to people who I actually want to talk to, as it makes me feel lonely looking at my list of "friends" online and there being noone there who I would really feel comfortable taking to.

As to adding co-workers, I would really only stick to people I have a more personal relationship with irl and never add superiors just for the sake of being polite. That can potentially end in trouble due to them seeing compromising pictures taken at parties, being judgemental over hobbies, interpreting unrelated statuses the wrong way etc.

Like Artemisia said, getting a part time job is the best way to go if you can find time for it. Quite a lot of companies offer low paid part time positions on student job portals and if you're lucky and find something in your field this is a good way to add some work experience to your CV and earn some money on the side. You might even get a foot in the door with the company and be able to work there after graduating, or they'll at least give you good references. As for stuff to take with you, I'd just take some clothes, a laptop and anything comforting, I wouldn't worry about books as you'll definitely have enough to read when you get there!  Other than that just try to make friends, talk to anyone who's willing to tell you their story, have fun, work hard and don't be afraid to ask for help from anyone who can give it :)

Pony Corral / Re: Is it ok to spray Sanitizer on Ponies?
« on: January 02, 2015, 09:26:07 AM »
I've noticed that antibacterial sanitiser seems to react badly with some hard plastics. I once used some to clean my landline phone and it dissolved the first layer of plastic, and it etches the print off some printed plastics, such as the letters on computer keyboards. I'm really not sure how pony plastic/cutie marks would react to alcohol based cleansers but personally I wouldn't risk it. I just clean the ponies with some water and washing up liquid since I figure if it's good enough for the stuff I eat off it's probably good enough for plastic ponies

Pony Corral / Re: Pony Limits?
« on: January 01, 2015, 10:55:29 AM »
I recently culled down my collection to only those ponies and fairy tail birds that fit into the box my sewing machine came in. I kinda lost interest in the hobby about 6 months ago and have been downsizing since then, but there were just a few things I didn't want to part with so I set "anything that will fit into the box" as a limit and I'm happy with that. I can still look at pics of other people's pretty displays on here anyway whenever I need a pony fix, and selling them to people to help them complete their collections is fun too :)

I love perfume too, but I'm still on the lookout for a "signature scent" among the pricier brands, but until I find one I'd be willing (and able!) to splurge on I wear So Elixir by Yves Rocher as my daily perfume.

« on: August 19, 2014, 04:45:03 AM »
My fiance and I were visiting his dad in hospital yesterday and it was really stressful and took longer than we thought it would because we had to wait to talk to a lot of doctors, so we went to Mc Donalds afterwards for some treat foods. I tried a big tasty bacon for the first time, and it was big, tasty and had a lot of bacon, so I was happy :)

I've thought about this for a bit and I think I only own two gifts given to me by previous boyfriends. One is a navy blue scarf and the other is a children's plastic ring that the guy stole for me from a pound shop  (kinda weird I know..)

Both of the things are from relationships I had when I was a teenager, and they remind me more of a fun time in my life than of the people who gave them to me, so I guess that's why I keep them (plus the scarf is actually pretty stylish ;))

Off Topic / Re: Tumblr
« on: July 31, 2014, 01:47:33 PM »
I love tumblr, and see quite a lot of original art on there too. I second everyone's suggestions of using tags. Maybe try tagging the equipment you used to make the piece? People might be searching for inspiration on what they can do with a bamboo tablet for example. I guess you could also tag the main colours/moods used in the piece too as lots of people have colour coded blogs or focus on a certain atmosphere (hope that makes sense :s)
Hmmm... other than that I guess the best thing to do is search the tags and find other people's blogs that you like to follow, that would increase the chance that they check out your work, reblog it and thus expose it to more people. You have to be patient in the beginning when waiting to get followers, but I personally find tumblr really addictive ^^

Pony Corral / Is Hong Kong Salty a Nirvana? & Sweetheart Sister PC
« on: July 28, 2014, 07:05:51 AM »
I've been looking to sell some stuff off but kinda need to ask you guys for help first

I have Salty the Big Brother pony and he has Made in Hong Kong written on his back feet. I haven't been able to work out if this is the normal version of him or a Nirvana since I know there are BB Nirvanas that are very similar to the regular versions. If so, what would be a good price? Is 10USD a good price if he is the regular version? He is in pretty good condition but has a pink dot on his forehead.

On a completely different note, would 8USD each would be an okay price for Sweetheart Sister ponies or do they sell for less? (one with flowers, one with glittery hearts)

Thanks for the help pony experts!  :)

Aww, they're all so cute :)

I still need to finish watching the original series before I start on Crystal, I just finished season three (and cried a lot at Hotaru and her Dad's ending ^^;)

aww, he's a cute little scruffy guy. I wish free rats just walked up to my house (not the wild ones though please).
My thoughts exactly! :) If I were to simply -find- a rat, that would be an excellent excuse for another pet... ;)

« on: June 28, 2014, 06:43:25 AM »
I have a bachelor's in art history and am now working as a freelance translator (DE->EN) in this field. I became self-employed after uni because it's so difficult to find proper emploment with my degree, but luckily it's worked out pretty well as I'm now working almost full-time translating the catalogues for an art auction house, and there's a good chance that they will take me on properly in the future :)

I really love my job because I get to work among so many wonderful artworks and antiques, I'm allowed to borrow any of the specialist books from our research library, I have wonderful colleagues and I earn a decent wage. However, my hope is that one day I will be able to take on more responsibilities within the company and maybe one day I'll be writing catalogue texts instead of just translating them ;) Since my work is also my hobby I'm constantly learning more about art history, especially medieval art, I'm also planning on doing a PhD at some point, but I have a lot more to learn before that!
