MLP Nirvana / found a new? takara image online
« on: July 29, 2015, 07:25:46 PM »
Inspired by the recent takara pony on ebay... I started digging deep for takara ponies online. I found a MIB takara pony house from an old yahoo auction.

It says "おめかし ハウス"/"omekashi hausu" or "dressing up house."
As opposed to the one house in the catalog pages which is called "Pony Stylish House."

(I think these pix are actually from two different auctions.)

Thoughts? has anyone seen this before?

For some reason these details on global pony distributions really interest me, thanks yal!

You are right Taffeta, the wiki is definitely confusing on this topic, which is why I reached out. I'm out of town, so I may not get to it soon. But if anyone is interested anyone can edit the wiki! (I just have to manually set up people's accounts to start with.)

Hey everypony, I have a US/Canada/Europe pony distribution question for you.

I recently got a nice set of photos donated to the wiki of an entire box of "Playtime Baby Ponies."
http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Category:Baby_Fancy_Pants_Ponies (pix at the bottom of the page)

There were two of each of these 6 in the box:
-Baby Starburst
-Baby Glider
-Baby Splashes
-Baby Dots 'n Hearts
-Baby Drummer
-Baby Paws

The scrap book already has this basic division for US vs UK, but... what about everywhere else?
http://www.etherella.com/scrapbook2/1989_fancypantsbabies.htm

So, now I'm curious, which places got Fancy Pants + Playtime Baby brothers and which got only got a few of both as "Playtime Baby Ponies"?
Here is my best guess after a brief google search:

UK/Dutch+French/French: Playtime (only those 6, missing the rest of the brothers and the fancy pants)

US/French Canada/Italy: Playtime Brothers + Fancy Pants

Elsewhere in Europe: None?

How does that distribution sounds to people?? I want to see your MIP if you got em  :silly:

Ha ha, now I'm thinking of this Agatha Christie book where a guy tells Hercule Poirot he's sure to get along with this Spanish lady because "they're both foreign."  And he's like "Yeeeah, actually Spain is as foreign to me as it is to you.  Because I'm from Belgium."
I think it would be interesting to have a chart showing which sets were sold in which countries (if there isn't one already).   Then there are the sets that were sold in the UK or wherever but they cut two ponies out of the set . . .

There is a french website which has listed the set and/or ponies sold in France and the ones who weren't but sometimes a country as close as Belgium had different sets (such as the second set of princess we never got here in France).

Ooo, can you point me towards the site? With google translate, I can (poorly) read anything!

I mean, I'm sure a couple hardcore collectors do, but I think most of us mentally organize them as "Years 1 through 10, and then all the International ponies."

Absolutely. This is an excellent discussion because for so many years this is how collectors thought. Before they were "international ponies," we just thought of them as UK, then European ponies... Then Brazilian and Argentinean ponies popped up and the way we organized MLP was turned upside down.

I think we are lucky in that way, how we are constantly learning more about ponies released all over the world and we'll never know everything. It's exciting :)

So how do we organize them now? I'm happy to continue organizing MLP as US and International ponies, because the US is Hasbro's home base and the majority of released ponies were US/CA releases, regardless of how many US collectors there are.

What about G2? Hasbro may have had HQ here, but they seemed totally uninterested in selling ponies in the US.

I have bilingual Twinkle Eyed Pony cards from Canada if you'd like an example image. They are really beautiful :)

I'd love to see them! PLMK if they are just for show... or if I can add them to MLW ;)

Sure thing! You may absolutely add them to MLW. Your website is pretty much my most visited! Happy to help. I had Gingerbread too but sold her. I'll try to dig up pics!

Awesome, thanks! >_> I see a few other pix in your photo bucket that aren't on the wiki either, can I add a few of those?

I did some multi-lingual interweb digging... and I found a greek tv commercial for rollerskates ponies, and a bunch of el greco magazine (i guess) ads. And that there were these collectible dolls by el greco during the 80s before hasbro bought them (called like bibi bo), and they used baby pony accessories with the dolls. which i thought was pretty interesting.

::quickly taking notes on all of this:: Also, about how far were collectors pose FF ponies distributed do you guys think??

Macau ponies were only released in Germany.

No, they were also sold in France ;)

aah, I had been wondering where macau ponies were actually found.

also, omg I AM going to have to include something of a history of the collecting terminology to explain the continued use of international/uk/euro ponies interchangeably.

What experiences do people have with which countries in europe definitely getting ponies (not even country specific, just ponies in general) and which countries definitely didn't?

Fairly sure they got US issue ponies and no Euro, however at least some were on dual language cards if memory serves, the Canadian French being Ma Petite Pouliche or something like that, rather than Mon Petit Poney.

If that is the case, I was thinking "North American Ponies" would be more accurate than "US Ponies"...

(thanks for the move!)

But Mexico is also part of North America.  Hmm maybe Northern North American ponies lol

Thanks for the responses all! I totally forgot that Mexico is actually in in North America. Would "US/Canada" really be the mostest accurate maybe? Opinions? I have gotten some emails lately from collectors worried that the wiki had forgotten about their country. For instance, since I didn't have a page for Poland, someone insisted to me that Poland did in fact have My Little Ponies ;;_;; So I thought souping up the clarity of nationality, and being more clear about where ponies were made vs where ponies were sold, would be a fun project =P (I love these details way too much.)

How awesome/creepy would several colors of translucent ponies in the same pose chopped up and then glued back together as a custom be? Maybe just in half... or mix and match horns and wings? Mixed with opaque ponies and given fading paint jobs?

I haven't bought any blind bags in a while (for all the reasons mentioned), though I really coooould go for some neon ones..... hmmmm.

Hi guys, sorry about mylittlewiki.org. Of course I've been on vacation for the winter holidays and ignoring the wiki this past week or two.... I'm pretty sure that the bit that was broken so that the captchas didn't work finally snow balled into something more annoying. I'll be back home tomorrow and finally have time to figure out what the heck it is so pissed off about.

If any pony knows anything about mediawiki software... I'd love to hear from you!

p.s. try google's cached pages..?

Ok... I told it to fix the table it was whining about, and it did, and now it seems happy. It just took a week for me to figure out how to tell it that...
