Pony Corral / Re: Sister ponies - Love 'em or leave 'em?

I've got both sets and like them, but they're not at the top of my "Never Ever Sell EVER" list. I do wish they would have made a few more sets like this, as I agree with those who have mentioned a fondness for the baby poses :)

What intriguing histories your towns have!

Bekuno - I'm not sure if that story freaks me out or amuses me, lol. Hauntings always make me sad in a way (especially those that rise from tragedy) but if he *is* haunting the area looking for his whiskey... there are much worse reasons he could be wandering!

duenia - I'll absolutely check that out, thanks!

Scarletjul - it's dually creepy to me that it's places that are meant to be fun places for children that are haunted!

Nemesis - cryptozoology both fascinates and terrifies me. I can't imagine being chased by one of those creatures. Rumor has it around my hometown that we had a monster called the Shoal Creek Thing (I think?) but it's not spoken of nearly as much as the Spook Light. I *think* it's supposed to be akin to Bigfoot.

Tiffoes - how terribly sad and genuinely terrifying!

invaderhorizongreen - I hope the grape festival is as fun as it sounds! I had a friend on FB tell me about the corn palace (I think? in... North Dakota maybe?) and was all excited, telling her I hope it was as amazing as it sounds. She had to let me down and say that it's actually a terrible disappointment lol. Something about food-related festivals seems to excite me :)

melodys_angel - the city of waterfalls sounds *amazing* and definitely got my imagination running! Thank you :)

Beldarna - and so did the city of birches. I especially love the history tied to it, both a practical solution and what I feel is a subtle nod of gratitude to the trees for saving the town.

Off Topic / Re: What Do You Like To Read?
« on: February 10, 2017, 09:18:33 PM »
I read and write almost solely epic fantasy. I love the feeling of escape and adventure that comes with slipping into a world that isn't our own :) Every once in a while, an urban fantasy can grab me, but it takes a very skilled writer to get me to suspend my disbelief in those settings.

Besides my own world of Abaeloth (shameless plug ;) ), my favorite fantasy worlds are DragonLance's Krynn and Brandon Sanderson's Roshar. Unfortunately, a few semesters of creative writing classes in college obliterated my ability to turn off my inner editor, so I've become a *very* picky reader since my brain's always on the hunt for things that are done "wrong." I'm working on trying to fix this so I can get back to reading for pure enjoyment, and am anxious to try out some of the recommendations you guys have posted!

Off Topic / Re: What do you order at McDonald's ?
« on: February 10, 2017, 09:13:54 PM »
I used to *love* their breakfast, but since they got rid of bagels, there's nothing that really appeals to me there anymore.

As a vegetarian, the only time I eat at McDonalds is when my husband and I are on the road and that's what he wants to eat (or all that's easily available). I order a cheeseburger happy meal, with no meat or pickle on the "burger", apple slices and usually just water to drink. I do love M&M McFlurries :)

They don't have the veggie burger where you live? Back when I was still a vegetarian I'd buy it frequently!

No veggie burgers at our McDonalds :( (or if they did, they didn't take very well) Burger King has them, though, so if it's an option, I usually try to sway my husband to go that way instead. Taco Bell and Wendy's are also quite vegetarian friendly (as far as fast food goes, of course lol).

Off Topic / Tell me about your hometown quirks/traditions/urban legends!
« on: February 09, 2017, 05:05:26 PM »
I want to know about all of the weird little things that make your hometown (or others you are near enough to hear stories of) unique! I'm in the process of outlining a series of short stories to work on fleshing out the world my fantasy series is set in, and need unique places for my traveling character to visit :) Sorts of things I'm interested in:

My hometown is in southwest Missouri, and just a short drive from a phenomenon called the Spook Light. I've never seen it (despite several attempts to :P ) but it's supposedly a mysterious light that floats along a remote dirt road. There are a few stories tied to what it could be, but the one that's usually the most prominent is about the ghosts of Native American lovers looking for each other.

I live a bit further north now, but my teeny (and I mean *tiny*) town apparently lays claim to a glowing tombstone (I don't have the nerve to check it out lol) and a place called "Copperhead Hill" (which I don't have the *desire* to check out).

What about you guys? What sort of neat or creepy or obscure things is *your* hometown known for? I'd love to hear about unique events, too, if there are any :)

Pony Corral / Re: Who is your impossible pony?

This is going to so und sorta "well, *duh*!" but MO Mommy and Baby ponies have eluded me for *years* now! I'm hunting for them in good or better condition, but am adamant for some reason about buying them *together.* I don't know if it's to feel like I have a pair that was originally packaged together or what (that might be it... I think I've only ever bought my NBTs and TTs in pairs). I've come so very close to getting them about three times, but always about 5 hours behind someone who just wants one of them. I'd have the set by now if I'd have let myself buy them separately, but I just can't seem to do that

When my Log Horizon kick filters out, I suspect I'll drift back to Fullmetal Panic.
Fullmetal Panic! I love that show

Fumoffu. Fumoffu O.o.

Fumoffu is actually what got me hooked on FMP lol. I'm very, *very* particular about what anime works for me and which don't (and I haven't figured out what it is that gets me hooked) and I tend to lean away from mechs. I was actually working on customizing some ponies and was strapped to my desk because of it when my husband started playing it. About three episodes in, I couldn't help myself and had to ask him what the *heck* was going on because (especially) when paying half attention, it seemed like the most absurd thing I'd ever sat in on. Paid attention to a couple episodes, thought it was delightfully hilarious, then got into the full series <3

Can I just say that I *love* how there was an entire conversation had via spoilers? LOL!

I'm an old school DBZ girl, and I will always go back to it, but lately I've been binge watching (pretty much every other month... it's a cruel obsession lol) Log Horizon <3 When my Log Horizon kick filters out, I suspect I'll drift back to Fullmetal Panic. I love me some epic series, but those short ones are really good for binge watching, you know? I also started working my way through One Piece a couple months ago.

Off Topic / Re: What did you dream about last night?
« on: February 04, 2017, 01:52:19 PM »
Last night's dream is what made me wake up and say, "Hey! You know where I haven't been in ages? The ARENA!" So, here I am :P

Last night's dream, I was at a flea market and found a great big bin full of ponies. Most of them were really smoozed Moondancers, but I found a So Soft Mimic (normal, painted eyes, not Twinkle, if it makes any difference, considering this pony doesn't exist :P ) and got SO excited. In the dream, she was a real pony, just super hard to find, and I wouldn't wait to run home and clean her up so I could squee about her here. Woke up, partly disappointed but also sort of laughing about it because I know there is no way I'd ever find a SS Mimic, no matter how hard I looked.

Another animal lover here!

I went to school originally to become a veterinarian because of this love, but life had a few other plans for me, so now I have a super fancy degree that just lets me take really, *really* good care of my pets :P I've done a little bit of everything when it comes to animal training and husbandry, having an emphasis on behavior and nutrition and a specific passion for dogs, horses, and birds. I currently live with a full house of a GSD/lab, 4 song birds and a parrotlet, 2 mice, 4 fish, 5 cats, 2 horses and a mixed flock of 6 chickens. I'd likely have more critters if my husband would let me  :P

Pony Corral / Re: Ending My Hiatus, Storage Advice?
« on: February 04, 2017, 01:41:25 PM »
I've always used those closet organizers for shoes to display my ponies, but the cases aren't enclosed all around like a curio cabinet would be. I've been debating trying to fashion plexiglass fronts for them, but haven't gotten around to doing it yet.

I love these "shelves" because normal sized G3s and *most* G1s fit in them perfectly (and without a lot of wasted space above their heads like a normal book shelf would likely have) and you can pretty much stack them as high as your ceilings are. They're inexpensive enough that when I need to go add to my  towers of ponies, it's not a huge deal, and since they're pretty standard items at most home improvement stores (I use Lowes), you shouldn't have to worry about them being discontinued if they quit being trendy (I've been buying mine as needed since 2004). I may also be a little weird in that having my shelves match is very important to me, so if I started with one type of shelf and then needed a new one and couldn't get it, I'd feel like I "had" to go buy completely new shelves for the whole darned room :P

My husband has a bit of a love-hate relationship with my collection. He's typically very helpful with adding to it (he'll randomly stop by Target and TRU to go look for new ponies, takes me to thrift stores and "emergency" stops at garage sales to check for second hand ponies, and if funds are right, seldom grumbles over when I ask about ebay or Arena purchases) but when new waves are dropped all at once, he always has that initial "punch to the gut" look before caving with the, "We'll buy them all eventually, may as well do it now" reasoning :) He knows that ponies mean a lot to me and, as he says, as long as we keep up with new releases, they're a heck of a lot cheaper than a lot of *other* things I could collect!

The rest of my family is relatively indifferent. My dad went through a phase where he thought it was stupid for me to be spending my money on toys, but when he finally got around to realizing that what I spent my money on didn't impact him, he quit caring. Now, he'll randomly ask if he can take updated pictures of my pony room so he can show people he knows. I still don't know the nature of those conversations, but I personally am pretty proud of my collection, so think that's fine.
