I feel like US Years 7-10 are underrated here! We only got Glow 'n Shows, Tropicals, Rainbow Curls, Sparkles, Candy Canes, and Merry Go Rounds among other great sets in the final years of G1. The sets from this time are not only quite monetarily valuable on average, but genuinely fun and pretty gimmicks in my opinion.

This month's "collection recap" is fairly small, but includes some interesting additions. Baby Tea Lily, who needed a surprise rehairing, and a G3-era clock I've never seen before! visitors can't see pics , please register or login
Spoiler 2005 Cupcake Alarm Clock Condition: 7/10 - It's fully functional and the face is vibrant. However, it's a bit scuffed, a screw is missing, and the purple is noticeably off-color. There's an outline of somebody's princess sticker in the original shade though, which is cute! visitors can't see pics , please register or loginvisitors can't see pics , please register or loginG3 Baby Hula LulaCondition: 9.5/10 - She's practically mint! I think there's factory glue on her back and other minor imperfections, but that's it. visitors can't see pics , please register or loginvisitors can't see pics , please register or loginG3 Baby Tea LilyCondition: "Customized" - I ordered both a rehairing tool and "Heartthrob" hair from Shimmerlocks. The head removal wasn't pretty, I scratched her a bit, but I still successfully replaced all the frail pink hair in her mane and tail. I've never done this before, so I'm glad it went OK! visitors can't see pics , please register or loginvisitors can't see pics , please register or loginG1 SluggerCondition: 7.5/10 - He's afflicted with moderate regrind spotting. It's a shame, but he's very clean otherwise with decent hair. I only have three Big Brothers left to collect! visitors can't see pics , please register or loginvisitors can't see pics , please register or login I also wanted to update on my badly yellowed Princess Royal Blue. I prepped for sunfading beforehand using tinfoil, cling wrap, and painter's tape to cover symbols and hair:visitors can't see pics , please register or loginThis is the result after bathing in full sunlight for roughly three weeks worth. It's probably tricky to see the improvement between these photos and the ones from my previous topic, but I swear she's a lot better! Sea Breeze was one of the first dozen My Little Ponies I ever bought for my collection. I didn't know about "fading pink" yet, but by chance I happened to choose one with relatively unfaded hair! Her condition is incredible; an almost spotless body, symbols are intact, and the mane and tail are soft. 9/10!Hang on... Did anyone else notice that the MIB picture of Sea Breeze was seemingly taken outside? In the SUN!? What was the photographer thinking?

I wasn't even alive yet, but the bedroom and video footage really invoked nostalgia for me somehow. It's awesome to see My Little Ponies organized like a real collection before it was cool! Thanks for preserving and sharing such a neat glimpse into the past.

Wow, it's fantastic to see another teenaged collector of G1 and G3! Even our history with the franchise are quite similar, you're speaking my language. Welcome to MLP Arena!

Alright, bumping this thread because I'm still trying to figure out my rehairing tool. Shimmerlocks has one, but I seriously doubt I MUST pay $16 to finish this project. What are good alternatives? I was wondering if I could use felting needles, but mine aren't small enough... At least, I don't think so? I'm not even sure what a good size is! Does anybody have a link to a product they bought for rehairing, and liked?

Tea lily is an avon exclusive pony, there's something wrong with their hair that causes it to dry rot or crumble or something. It also affects Baby Wave Catcher, Sunrise, Princess Peppermint, Jazzmatazz and Peach Surprise. I'm sorry.
You're telling me ponies from 35-40 years ago can still have perfect hair today, while Avon-exclusive ponies, only as old as me, just rot away? That's both hilarious and very sad. Thanks for telling me, I wondered if a deterioration was happening but thought it'd be impossible!Tailrustedtealeaf recommended me to Shimmerlocks. The service is quality, the hair is nice and I got my orders quickly. Yess Shimmerlocks!
Shimmerlocks is definitely the best place to get nylon hair! Their service is incredible. Sugarberry nylon (named after the G1 pony) might be a match?
Thanks for suggesting Shimmerlocks, too! The website definitely seems competent, so that'll likely be my choice. Upon inspection, there's no perfect matches but "Heart Throb" is actually closer than "Sugarberry". I'd probably update on Baby Tea Lily after rehairing in my next collection update (May 1st).

Happy Easter! I got a really cute basket with miniature animals, candy, and two G3 My Little Ponies I wanted. One's in near-mint condition, but unfortunately, Baby Tea Lily has A CLUMP of hair missing! I was baffled, I checked her eBay photos again and yes, the mane was seemingly full? I have no clue what happened between her listing and my purchase, the seller's feedback was 100%.

We messaged a complaint and were fully refunded in minutes. Now, I've got a free pony who needs a partial rehair, and I've never done it before. There's a pinned thread on where to buy nylon hair, but I'm wary. I'd like to hear from others which website is best from their experience. If you also know the matching pink, please link it! Baby Tea Lily's dark pink is similar to G1 Fizzy's, except slightly reddish.

G3's Fancy Free might be the most nonsensical, random, unfitting pony name I've ever discovered in my three collecting years. Can somebody explain what on Earth that means? She fancies freedom, like a purple-heart American patriot?!

"Fancy-free" is a real term that Dictionary dot com defines as "free from any emotional tie or influence, especially that of love". I know the term because of Disney's "Fun and Fancy Free". There's some albums and a ballet titled "Fancy Free" too.
Wow, what an idea, maybe I should've looked it up...? Still, I didn't bother because I don't exactly have much creative faith in the same company that named a sun-themed unicorn Brights Brightly. But if that definition is accurate, Fancy Free's name is fairly clever! I'm sorry, little purple pony, you pass.

In March, I got a few great ponies I've wanted a fair while for my collection! There's three G1s and a G3. They're in pretty awesome condition overall, although you might be able to guess which one needed an hour of cleaning, scrubbing, and styling to restore... visitors can't see pics , please register or login
*POINTS AT SUGAR SWEET WITH PERFECT CURLS*Spoiler G3 BubblecupCondition: 9/10 - She's practically perfect besides a couple tiny marks, her mane and tail are great. OK, we're going off topic but now I'm really curious. My Whizzer, who's a VERY vibrant pink, is in pretty great condition besides a few stains and... These on her neck.visitors can't see pics , please register or loginAre those bleach-like splotches remnants of her original pastel hue? It'd kinda suck if after two years I find out she's badly regrinded and not just unfaded, haha. If anybody's confident these lighter stains match the common color, I guess our hypothesis is correct. I didn't know there was a pony who could fully regrind, let alone so often!

MLP Preservation Project has info on removing ingrained dirt or "smooze," but it's literally one paragraph. I've never tackled this before, so I'd like better instructions or advise from somebody experienced. My afflicted ponies are Moondancer, who only has dirty hooves, and Skyflier, who's grubby all over the legs.To clarify, a magic eraser sponge did nothing for either pony. They both have delicate glitter symbols, so I don't know if they're safe to boil...? I just feel uncertain all around. I'm worried I'll accidentally damage them somehow, especially since I may need to scrape at the dirt using a sharp object. Thanks in advance for any advise!

I'm proud to say I happen to have all three, too! I took a couple of differently posed group pictures for your needs. I'm curious, why'd you want to see these particular pinkish-purple TE Ponies together? Regardless, enjoy!

...While the ones with their hair starting far back between the ears are almost certainly all playset versions you can't say the same for the ones with better hair and hairlines being exclusively mail order. Here is my playset Majesty (childhood pony so 100% certain she came with the playset) - lovely hair that starts well in front of the ears though not all the way to the horn and pretty much evenly white.

I did want to find out if a thirteen-year-old book was really correct on identifying a mail order Majesty. Your info is interesting.
I wonder if Majesty's quality improved in later waves of the Dream Castle, maybe after the mail order variant was produced? I think playsets were made longer than individual ponies, but you'd know better than me. It's possible early playset Majesty had head-body mismatch, Hasbro fixed her, offered mail order Majesty as an improvement, and decided to put their better Majesty in final Dream Castle waves.
However, I don't know when mail order Majesty happened. It's after 1986; that's the only hint Summer Haye's book gives. My Little Wiki just excludes her from mention altogether...
