Pony Corral / Re: Collections Goals for 2016?
« on: December 11, 2015, 01:18:48 AM »
Sunbright family would be a huge grail victory for me. I had the baby when I was a kid but lost it during the move to the US, along with a handful of other childhood ponies. I want to at least get one before the holiday season is over. I have an affinity for any pony with marine symbols especially. And these guys have eluded me far too long ><

Like most, I do not collect G3.5 and only collect G3s I like but I am primarily a G1 collector. I'd like all the G2s but some I honestly have no interest in. I love the non-mane 6 figures when it comes to G4, otherwise I do not purchase G4 items anymore. I wish Hasbro would make make them with the freedom of colors they had with G1 and with the innovation they had with G3 merch.

Pony Corral / MLP Holiday Photo Contest??
« on: December 11, 2015, 12:51:55 AM »
Hi there, I was wondering if the holiday MLP photo contest was going on this year? I had so much fun with last's years I've been super excited to do it again but I searched and searched and don't see a post... If I am missing it somehow (cuz I am blind lol) please share it and I will delete this thread ASAP.

If NOT, however, I would love to host it if anyone's interested. I have tons of MIC/MOC items I could supply as prizes if all else fails. I really had such a great time last year, it helped me through a bad time and I want so much to participate again.  ^.^

I shared the Department 56 link with my mom- hoping she'll get the set for me this year. It's the only thing I've asked for and I can't justify spending $140 for them at the moment. If not, oh well. They sure are adorable. I'd love for Hasbro to continue licensing out porcelain figures.

Oh man how cool! This is only the second time I've seen MLP items in a claw machine, but never an all MLP machine! So awesome you got Spike, I've yet to ever get anything from one of those ><

So adorable! And I've never seen it. Can you give us a hint on the price range? Admittedly I thought your title implied someone scammed you and only shipped an empty box, because that has actually happened to me before :P

Honestly, I'd probably use it as a riser for a pony display - like I would find a slightly smaller box that fits inside, and have ponies stand on top of that, then keep the lid standing up to the side of the box, so that art could be displayed as well! Bonus, you could still use the hidden inside box for storage.

I wonder if there's some kind of sealer you could use on the cardboard to help preserve it?

A riser is a good idea! What about puzzle sealant? I use it for paper projects much thinner than typical cardboard and it works just great, but given how good of condition that shoe box is, I would just keep it out of UV light and near a humidifier.

Don't use sealant.  Not only are you compromising the original integrity of the object, introducing more chemicals to a composite material is a recipe for disaster.  The only time it's acceptable to add glue or sealant is when /not/ doing so would be imminently detrimental to the original or is necessary for the object to serve its function in a collection; i.e. piecing back together a vase because nobody wants to look at 3,000 tiny pieces and try to guess what it once was.

Your box has held up just fine for this long as-is, so leave it be.  Less is more in the conservation world.

Yup, I mentioned it was in good enough condition to maintain. Though, I have not personally experienced any negative effects of using puzzle sealant. I have a framed 1974 puzzle that my dad made when he came back from Vietnam. He steam peeled off the paper to each piece and then compiled each piece over a wooden frame and sealed it so you couldn't see the jigsaw seams. I've had it hanging in direct sunlight my entire life and it still looks pristine. I also do this with my G1 MLP puzzles (only if I have an extra, I prefer to keep one mint), and they are still holding up. Not saying I don't agree and anyone should be cautious, but I don't personally see any harm. In this particular case, as aforementioned, I would just leave it as original as possible.

I know this is kinda sucky since poor CapnChan just posted about losing her pet. The big reason behind my absence here was Suki being so sick and basically dying. She passed away last week, and it's been hard on me. We did take in a younger dog this weekend because I thought it might be good for CObi since  he has been acting depressed. Things related to Suki though are hard on me and make me burst into wild crying. I know I've almost always gotten ornaments in this swap related to my pets, and if you got something of Suki dear partner I don't want you to feel like you cannot send it. Please just wrap it well and label it, so I can put it aside and open it when I'm ready which does mean it might be a while.

I also updated all my questions from the ones on the front.

Oh noooo. Sigh, I am so sorry to hear :( I thought your Suki was still with us. This has been a rough week... I know exactly what you are going through, feel free to message me if you need to talk <3 And I am sure your partner has taken into account and can hopefully make this swap extra special for you.
Also everyone has been so nice with the comments, thank you, it does help. So far this swap has certainly made it easier for me to get back into the holiday spirit some.

Oooh Xeevee so jealous, I miss Germany during the winter so very much! I had such a tiny apartment when I was there but I went nuts at Globus and decked it to the max haha. Oh I miss the festivals, food (pumpkin duck soup?!), decorations, and just the spirit everywhere. I can't wait for December. There are just a few more items I need for my partner, and my package will be good to go. I am trying to be as prescriptive as possible and have to await a few items from online so it's juuust perfect :) I'll also update my questions here soon.

On a sadder note, to my partner, my beloved Gaia passed away two days ago unexpectedly.  I am not expecting a pet themed gift or anything but if you wanted to include one still that would be fine. I'd like to surround myself this Christmas with things that remind me of her, it was her favorite time of year and her birthday month.

Have so many awesome Christmas goodies and ornaments for my partner! I strictly adhered to their guidelines and questionnaire and think I managed to get a little bit of everything in a creative pony way :D Would also really love to know if my partner: 1. likes Disney items/ornaments, 2. Would like a MLP holiday mug, 3. Would enjoy ornaments made from figures
