Pony Corral / Re: Best Place to Find G1 Pony Art?
« on: August 27, 2014, 09:30:37 PM »
After finding the pony you want on my little wiki, try searching My Little Pony G1 artwork on Google too.  There is a nice mix of original artwork, custom art, and multi-generational art.  It might help you decide how you want to personalize or position the image.  Deviant art & Pinterest are also good sites to browse for ideas.

Pony Corral / Re: What do you do with you accessories?

I like to use fishing/craft organizers.  I usually wrap soft-plastic items in tissue (charms, petites), but hard-plastic items (brushes, combs, etc) seem to be fine on their own.  Clothing and other larger sets I'll bag in Ziploc and put in small tote boxes.

Thank you for hosting Ponyqueen!  Had a great time with everyone and drooling over all the ponies. (Especially all those Nirvana boys at show and tell!)

Here's my loot!

Usually they are bagged at Savers and loose at Goodwill.  Like others have said, the bag contents depend on who is bagging and also how many are there.  If there is a larger batch of ponies that day it seems that they are more likely to be together.  The prices for bagged ponies are usually 2.99 to 3.99.  The plush and other large ones tend to run in the 3.99 to 5.99 range individually depending on the condition and who is pricing that day. The loose ones at GW run from .99 to 2.99.  I've gotten fairly picky about the ponies I get, so I tend to pass on bait or common ponies unless it is one of the few I'm missing.  Usually I'm finding G3s, but there was a batch of G1s last week.  I passed on most of them because I already had them and most of them were in borderline condition for the prices they were asking.

The home internet is conspiring against my diet, but I was able to obtain the direction I sought.  (AKA it isn't working so I'm at McD using mapquest).  See you tomorrow! :) :enthralled:

The ones I call "long-stride" tend to be more delicate with smaller eyes.  The "short-stride" ones are more solid and compact with large eyes.

I call them "long-stride" and "short-stride".  Besides the mold differences there is usually slight color variations between them too.  I only have the one style of Rosedust right now (long-stride).  I put a few closer looks under the spoilers.

Pony Corral / Re: Tips on building/buying display platforms for ponies?
« on: August 19, 2014, 04:45:50 PM »
The G4s fit well in those glass display cases that turn up at the thrift store occasionally.  I think they were popular in the 70's. I have a few of mine in one like this one:

The one I have will fit at least 12 regular-size G4s comfortably, at least 15 if you crowd them, plus a few on top. The smaller display cases work well for petites and blind bags.  I've seen them in all shapes and sizes.  Most are brass like this one.

I think I'm bringing my shrimp dip and crackers.

I'll have a few brag ponies, my trade ponies (mostly G1s and G3s) and a few non-pony items I've run across.  Since it sounds like there will be kids I'll probably have a "please take this away" box if I can find room.

I used Dream Valley's list, but a lot of combs/brushes were used for more than one pony. If you got them with a batch of ponies double check the site to try to match them up.

Here is the hair ribbons list:

The purple shooting star brush is from a plushie because it has a hole in it.  I think it was Firefly.

Aqua Shooting Star - Maybe Baby Starflower or Mailorder Dabble
Pink Bird Brush - Maybe Ribbon
Yellow Bird Brush - Twist
Aqua Crescent Moon Comb - Maybe Powder because it has a greener tinge
Pink Crescent Moon Comb - Surprise
Flower Pick - Forget-Me-Not
