Pony Corral / Re: Scented ponies: no yellowing please!
« on: October 28, 2019, 02:33:03 PM »
My unprofessional and maybe bad for the pony suggestion:
When I got the scented rainbows, I was fatigued and lazy and I just slapped them on my desk. I'll shelve them later, I said. My desk had the AC in and they were there for at least a week.
When I went to shelve them, I went to sniff Moonstone (THE BEST scent and I will stand by this) and I found that her scent had pretty much faded. I haven't seen any pony discolor or otherwise become damaged since.
Perhaps some sort of cold would help to remove the scent? I guess you could leave them in a car for a bit if it's cold over there and see if it sucks the scent out.
If you don't want to risk that stuff then you will want to de-box them if you are very worried about the scents discoloring them. It will be much better for them to be out in the open than it would in the box.

Wow! So you never removed them from the boxes?

Pony Corral / Scented ponies: no yellowing please!

Hello everyone! I've bought the beautiful retro rainbow ponies gift set released by Basic Fun. It's one of the few products of this series that are available on Amazon in my country...

The pack is not arrived yet, and I'm hoping I'll get the unscented version. In fact, I’ve read that lately someone surprisingly has got the unscented version of this gift set. But I’ve never seen a pic of this box without the “Scented Ponies!” wording... I know scented ponies (and these releases in particular) are very prone to yellowing, so, if I'll get the scented version, I want to avoid yellowing in these new ones.
Is it useful to keep them out of the box? Perhaps, in contact with air, some chemical components evaporate and the danger is averted. Maybe it’s better than keeping them sealed in plastic.
It would be very sad to see them, after some months, with yellow heads or stains on their body...
Does anyone have any advice?  :(

I have the classic Core 7 version, I think it's the version which came with a book and/or a DVD (I found her loose, at fleamarket)... At the beginning of third generation I absolutely wanted the first graysh-blue version, but I never found her! ...Her italian name is Colorella

That's a bottle of bubble bath. XD The body is hard plastic (and hollow) and the head is soft plastic, so they don't quite match. You take the head off to pour out the bubble bath. XD

Those bubble bath bottles are terrible!! I have three versions: Pinkie Pie, Wysteria and Star Catcher (with blue attached wings)... But they all have some problems: mismatch color heads (and prone to fading) and poor quality hair that becomes easily frizzy...  >_<

I have her twin sister!!  (Bumblesweet)   :P
I think she's the only pony I miss to complete the 'Squee Brigade' (do you remember them from "Kimono's Townhouse"?)

Wow, the entire set is gorgeous!! I didn't remember G3 birthflower ponies set was so beautiful!

http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/G3_Birthflower_Ponies

Every pony is very original.
A flower for every month... This is the kind of 'poetic' things that are no longer offered in today's generation...
(or am I wrong?)

Flowerburst!!

I'm not fond of Sweetheart Sisters, but I found her MIB at flea market, for only 7,69 $!! How could I not take her? :P
I like her very much... she's very romantic and elegant... As for now, she's the only MIB G1 pony in my herd (in that beautiful Italian packaging)!

I have her!!

I fell in love with her from the first time I saw her online, when G3s came out... But, at that time I used to purchase G3 ponies only in stores, and I never found Autumn Skye in my country... Years after, I received her as a gift from an ex-collector! I received her and other 11 beautiful G3s, all mint in box!!  :newpony:

If anyone is interested, there are many animation cels from MLP Tales here:

http://www.oasidelleanime.com/minisiti/pony/cels/index.htm

In the "Home Pony" section can be found some model sheets, too!

 ^.^

OMG that site is awesome! They have some cels from G1 toy ads and Escape from Catrina, too! And Italian comic scans! *O*

Yes!  ^.^ Comics are in the "Fumetti" section... In the second story all symbols decide to leave their owners and ponies begin a quest to find them!

(Please, excuse my off-topic post)  :P

Ah, I see! This is a ton of great information, thank you so much for the insight!
That is so interesting about the Italian Ponies Cristar.

I'm glad to have been helpful!  :)

aaaa that's fascinating, Cristar! :o One of the best posts I've seen on here in a while. So the two AJs and Bow-Ties are considered different characters in Italy? :o

Yes!  ;)

Pony Corral / Re: The Complete List of Male Ponies

I Think there are more italians. I recall someone was named Tommy maybe?  And it seems like some sets have a few boy names on the back cards, but thats just me assuming them being male, since the names ends with e or o ,instead of a, so I could be totally wrong here ^^
I added Bianco (Male Starshine) since he was confirmed to be male, but I couldn't really tell if any of the others were male or not. I did notice there was a Tommy (Italian Bow Tie) and Ben (Italian Bubbles) as well but I couldn't seem to find any info on their genders. If anyone knows if they were in fact male versions, please let me know!
Some of the Italian ponies are boys, but I can't remember which . . . I think either Posey or Trickles is a boy.  I have a little Italian coloring book where one of them is talking to the baby version of themself (yeah, they would just put in Baby Parasol, Baby Posey, tons of babies who never existed) and the baby was calling the adult "Uncle".  (In Italy the baby versions are the nieces / nephews of the adults, not the babies. At least in the comics.)

Well, being an Italian MLP fan, I can confirm there are more male ponies among Italian variants. But, as you wrote, sometimes this just depends on the name, without any other infos (in comics or pamphlets) about the gender of characters. If you check on this page http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Italy you'll find two collectible figurine scans, that introduce G1 characters with their Italian names. These names were also used in the Italian dubbing of the tv animated series. Well, some of these names are MALE names in Italy: Golia (Heart-Throb), Gelsomino (Cherries Jubilee), Fortunello (Lickety-Split), Lolito (Sparkler; sometimes she was called Ippolito, another male name). Note that these names ARE NOT Italian translations of their English names; for example "Gelsomino" means "Jasmine Flower", but, if it was a female name, it would be "Gelsomina". Anyway, she represents a discrepancy, because in the tv show she was called "Ciliegia" (Cherry), of course a female Italian noun.
After that, we have two BowTie versions and two Applejack versions, and for them the situation is clear: One version is male and the other is female. Melania is the female Applejack in the shy pose, and Melozzo is the male Applejack in the collector pose. Timmy is the female BowTie in the shy pose and Tammy is the male BowTie in the collector pose.
Is it all solved? No...  -_- Because here you will find many many other Italian male names of g1 ponies: http://miominipony.mlparena.com/ponynomi.htm
Specifically, they are: Turchino, Azzurro, Bianco, Giallo, Placido, Geremia, David, Ulisse, Ricciolino, Ballerino, Barnaba, Michele, Confetto, Polidoro, Gustavo, Filiberto, Pallino, Scirocco, Martino, and all names  ending with "-ino" (this ending is a sort of term of endearment, and we use "-ino" for boys and "-ina" for girls, so here we have only male names).
Well: why do we have so many male names for such "feminine" ponies? And why babies are always called "nipotino" (nephew) instead of "nipotina" (niece)?… Because the Italian adaptation considered them as mere animals without gender, rather than characters with their own identity...  -_-
So, I advise you not to include in the list all these names I have written to you, but limit yourself to insert Re Unicorno (always mentioned in Italian comics), Gustavo (because he is famous in the animated series and had a boyish voice) and, of course, Melozzo and Tammy (the male counterparts of Applejack and BowTie).
Anyway, this is only my point of view, you could ask for advice to other Italian MLP fans...

Also it looks like she's trying to kiss you.

That's why I love this pose. I am not wild about this particular one (I like Wondermint better), but d'awww... these open mouthed ponies look like they are begging for food or trying to nibble. Just precious.

IT'S TRUE!!!  :inlove: :inlove:

Pony Corral / Re: Whose your favorite Birthstone Pony?
« on: September 06, 2019, 02:37:32 PM »
(Apologies, a bit of "unpopular pony opinions"-cross ahead, though it seems I'm not the only one who isn't very impressed with this set)

To me these ponies are a bit of a disappointment. With the jeweled symbol they could have been so special, yet a lot of them seem plain to me in colouring, for others it's the pose that kills the thing - June Blossom, for instance, is yellow, for which I always have a soft spot, and it's my birth month too - but her pose makes her look like a scared chicuahua, not that I have an issue with chihuahuas, but this quality is not really what I am looking for in a pony. And if it's not the colours or the pose, then the symbol is just... too plain for what it could have been. Or off (can someone please explain the connection of mischief and a teacup to me? Thank you). Or weird. Like the eyeball thing that I can totally see too  December Delight, for instance... I'm not too fond of the pose, but her colouring is wonderful! A shame it is ruined by the too bulky and plain bow she carries on her flank. I just find it odd, and I'd find it hard not to repaint her symbol into something more delicate if I ever came across her  The randomness of the whole symbol thing totally makes this set fall apart for me, I cannot see any theme of connection here other than the gemstone and the tinsel - but there are also other G3 ponies out there with gemstones stuck on their bums

My choices are May Belle and Sweet September, and I voted for the latter - we could only pick one, and I've already shared my love for her colouring in the recent POTD thread, and white ponies are also something I have a soft spot for. But I also think the pastel colours of May Belle combined are very beautiful, she seems carefully put together - besides her oddly simple symbol that looks like something from a children's colouring book, but it's passable and fits her baby-like overall appearance combined with the pose.

You reminded me of the feelings I had the first time I saw this pony set! In fact the drawings on the symbols do not enhance the jewels, (for me) ... At this point the best symbols are those of February, September, October and November, IMHO.
(So, Sweet September is still my favourite! )

She is very cute but, as Periwinkle says, there are similar g3 jewel ponies with which she cannot stand the comparison. Anyway, she's my favorite birthstone pony!
