Customs / Re: How to bake sculpy on a G1 body?
« on: August 15, 2017, 08:49:20 AM »
I've talked with others who use oven bake clay on ponies, and they say to just keep a close eye on them while they are baking. I'm currently sculpting on a g3 with fimo, so I'm just going to be watching the doll as she bakes.

Oh man this gives me such anxiety !

For Dazzleglow?
Pussycat for her pink
Not sure about her blue

I haven't had problems with dollyhair's color matching. Or that hair match site but okay.

Their color matching isn't an issue with DollyHair, the website/company itself is. The hair I bought absolutely matched the pony it said it would, I just don't want to buy from them again.  I need matches for ANY other site that ships from the US or ships to it cheaply. If all hair from all places had the same names the same guides would work, but it doesn't seem like they do.  :)

Oh I have never stumbled across this particular web page before - very useful!

I bought from DollyHair and the service to me in the UK was fine  :)

If you are worried after having previous problems, could you get a friend to order on your behalf?

I'm in the US. Shipping costs were not the issue.  ;) This isn't really meant to be a LET'S BASH DOLLYHAIR post or anything, I just want a matching guide for ANY other hair site that ships to the US for a reasonable rate.

Customs / How to bake sculpy on a G1 body?
« on: August 15, 2017, 07:20:26 AM »
A lot of the "baits" I'm restoring are missing pieces. Entire legs, ears, horns, parts of faces, etc. I'm comfortable with using sculpy from other art projects and know it can be used for custom ponies, so I figure it will work here. Could someone point me in the right direction when it comes to solidifying the material onto the body? I don't want to melt the original pieces. Thank you!

Off Topic / Re: Does Pro Active acne treatment work?
« on: August 15, 2017, 05:41:24 AM »
Nooooooooooo don't do it. My cousin used it with great success for acne back in the 90's or early 2000's so my mom bought it for me. I have eczema, too. It was A DISASTER. I absolutely do not recommend it.

I can't believe I didn't find out that they showed up there sometimes until THE WEEK that my Tuesday Morning closed.

Thank you, but this is what I used when I bought from DollyHair before. I don't want to use them again. I didn't have a great experience.  :|

I just rehaired my first pony today, but she is a Perfume Puff so I didn't use "regular hair" for her. I have a few "bait" girls that are in DESPERATE need of rehairing in order to restore them to their former glory, but I don't know where to look to make sure I get the right colors for each pony. I wasn't sure if this belonged in "customs" or here, so apologies if I posted in the wrong spot. I've made new tails from DollyHair hair before, but would rather not use them again. I don't have the money to troubleshoot on my own. I need to know what to buy before I buy it, and I need it to be a US based site unless they have really reasonable shipping.

Thank you for any help you can give me, arena members! I tried to search but the search doesn't work for me.

ETA: I'm most urgently trying to match Dazzleglow, if anyone has specific info for her.

Introductions / Re: My introduction

They finally approved you! I'm so happy to see you here.  :lovey: I'm also glad that my endless 80's toy talk has inspired someone instead of irritated them. I can't wait to see your new ponies once they come in the mail. Let me know when you need more enabling.  ;) lol

Wanted! / Re: WANTED: G1 "baits"

I've replied to all PMs. Still looking for "baits".

This is unfortunately common with heavy smokers - they lose the ability to smell smoke / nicotine.  Glad you got a settlement that's (hopefully) fair for all involved.  The good news is as mentioned, it's usually possible to get the smell out of toys with enough time and patience.  Be careful if you're going to wash your RB dolls and/or sprites, and for the love of star sprinkles keep them out of the dryer.   Dryers can be hot enough to partially melt the plastic poly-fur and the yarn hair does not take kindly to rough handling.

I've already fixed them, and definitely did not put them in the dryer.  :) All is well in Rainbow Land!

Update to this: We emailed the seller and said that while they may not have come to US from a smoker's home, they definitely came to THE SELLER from a smoker's home and that because of that the description was deceptive and also flat out wrong because they also stated that the "dolls are clean." The seller replied saying they didn't smell like smoke and nobody smokes INSIDE of their home, which makes us think that the seller IS a smoker but thought it didn't count because they don't smoke INSIDE of the house, though the dolls were obviously exposed to massive amounts of smoke somehow be it directly or indirectly. In the end the seller gave us a partial refund, so I get to keep the dolls and we're satisfied with what we ended up paying in the end for the lot.

The Dollhouse / Re: Getting cigarette smell out of Rainbow Brite dolls?

Anybody know what image hosts work on the arena now that PhotoBucket is over?

I fixed them!

I soaked their clothes in Dawn and oxyclean for an hour and hand washed them. The dolls and sprites I put in a pillow case and soaked in oxyclean and detergent for about four hours before washing them on delicate. They smell fine now and look new (besides some lip paint issues that they had when they came to me, which I will fix soon.) No idea if it's a "no no" to wash the dolls this way, but it worked and there is 0 issue so...win/win.

I think that it is possible to get smells out with good airing and so on. My North Star was clearly a chain smoker when she came to me but now she smells just fine. One of my birthflower ponies stunk of car oil but she's also better now after spending time outside.

Definitely complain to the seller, though. That seems deliberately misleading to me.

That part about North Star cracked me up! XD Glad to hear she's uh, kicked the habit.

Yes. Between her smoking habit and Shady's hallucinogenic sunglasses there were some definite social problems in the movie star set. It just goes to show that not all ponies can handle fame...

   I love this conversation.

I've decided I'm keeping the dolls, but I'm leaving negative feedback. I don't want to send them back (especially the basically mint besides the smell Tickled Pink) so I'm restoring them. I'm still really irritated that the seller blatantly tried to scam people, though. Hopefully she doesn't leave retaliatory feedback, bc she hasn't left any yet even though we paid literally seconds after the auction ended.
