Ahh thankyou! All I can reveal about this set is they are inspired by both the Fancy Swirl Ponies as well as the outfit 'Pony-Naut'  I voted for Dream Marine! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I think the “Core 7”/“Mane 6” was the original beginning of the end for MLP, and most of the issues that came after stemmed from that. MLP was about variety and always something new to buy. As a kid, I never wanted doubles. I always wanted to see something new. G1, G2, and the prime G3 years were all about new ponies constantly coming out. Having access to repeated characters does give kids a chance to get their favorites if they missed them originally, but having nothing but the same group of characters over and over makes everything stale. And no parent is going to cough up for a 10th Pinkie Pie at current market prices. The first few years of G4 was a decent balance of Mane 6 and new ponies, but they managed to screw it up in later years by putting out nothing but the Mane 6. Churning out G5 on the heels of G4 led to the new toys sharing shelf space with the unsold crap that was sitting on shelves for over a year, killing the new stuff before it had a chance to even get rolling.
Hasbro went for cheap and lazy(endless boring iterations of the same characters) and catering to the fad group(all the stuff marketed to bronies). Mattel knows how to make a great toy for kids, and how to cater to collectors at the same time. I often envy Mattel collectors. They get respect from Mattel. MLP only got noticed once the bronies took over, and even then Hasbro wasn’t great.
EXACTLY! I was exactly the same as a kid, and still am today, and I would imagine I'm not the only one either...! Even if Hasbro was doing current trends like slime/fidgets in the line, as long as they had consistent new characters I'm almost sure they'd sell with both kids and collectors. I feel like another issue is that G4 wasn't very toyetic - like Lauren's designs are great for animation but don't translate super well into physical toys? Ideally MLP should have a balance, and I think that's something G1/G3 did very well, but G5 seems to be falling into the same pitfall, with a lot of design elements from the animated counterparts being absent on the actual toys and that sort of stuff bothered the heck out of me as a kid haha.

YES! I am SO excited to see the boys in reality! I just found this thread and I love all of these especially the perfume puff inspired ones. the perfume puff ponies are so underated
Ahh thankyou so much! I'm so glad you like them! Speaking of new sets... visitors can't see pics , please register or loginOk these guys took FOREVER as I wanted them to look even more authentic...! As such their artwork is a little more 'loose' and expressive, as influenced by the artwork for the first set of TAF ponies in particular. This is also the most time I've spent on a background thus far, I wanted a sort of 'Lisa Frank' nostalgic circus-ey vibe (I think that's what they call 'kidcore'?) These girls are clear but filled with colourful beads, which you can rattle around, kind of like a jar of gumballs! This is also why their symbols are linework only - that and I took inspiration from the scented 'good job' stamps I'd et on my schoolwork as a child lol. They are also chiefly inspired by Hasbro's unproduced 'Irresistibles', specifically the Colorburst Collection, which also feature clear bodies filled with colourful beads! I hope you enjoy, they were an awful lot of fun!

In anticipation of the Spooky Season Ponies being revealed in the next day or two, here is a redo of their artwork! visitors can't see pics , please register or loginThe main difference is the fonts and readability, although the original image also used a 'grain' image (the pixel-ey overlay that makes it look 'aged') by someone else, and I wasn't entirely comfortable potentially profiting from it, so the new image uses the 'noise' filter function on Photoshop (which I didn't have access to when I drew the original)

What is up with the G3 pets getting species-changed for no reason? Clawdeen now has a wolf instead of a cat, Draculaura has a cat? dog? with bat wings instead of a bat, the new Venus will allegedly have this:

I hope this prototype gets tossed. It looks like Chewlian swallowed the cheshire cat.
Apparently the idea is for the pets to look like ' magical girl familiars' according to the designer Cristina Frankel ( https://www.instagram.com/cristina.faline/?hl=en) which is a neat idea but in my opinion isn't really something that works for MH? Apparently Crescent was staying a cat but the higher-ups decided she had to be a wolf (why?), and Count Fabulous is Draculaura's 'familiar' which means he can change shape apparently

me as well! from my experience with my retro posey vs my g1s the retro ponies are much harder vinyl and their hair is softer to the touch
The harder body is probably due to plasticiser leakage due to age I'd assume, and I know a number of big hair manufacturers have shut down/merged since the 80s

Who's the fourth character on the "Reunion Tour" poster? also Meowlody's silhouette appears to be missing its tail
Maybe a hint at a new character? Catty? *crosses fingers*
As for the collector dolls (so many at once :O omg):
- Clawdeen's really pretty, but I'm not sure I'll be adding her to my collection. I think I would if she's released over here, unfortunately I doubt that'll happen (we never got the last Holiday doll). Love her box design.
- Skelita's really pretty, but too similar to the previous collector Skelita for my taste. Plus I've never really been a Skelita person.
- Draculaura's GORGEOUS... but again reminds me quite a bit of the G1 collector Laura from a while ago, the one with the big eyelashes and chest joint? Either way... absolutely stunning, but not for me.

I love these!!! The playset is delightful & I'd buy it if it existed!!! As for the Ponies, how good of you to go the Japanese route with them!!!

And yes, Takara ponies are some of my favourite MLP ever, although I don't think I'll ever be wealthy enough to own one haha, my hope is HGQ1 will make Takara blanks one day...!
They already have the Nippon babies in, so far four colours... They're quite cute!!! I think they'd need an adult fakie to do bigger blanks though, & even they are HTF
Yes I've seen the babies and they're definitely cute but I much prefer the adults! I assume you would take either a fakie or a legit adult and 3D scan + clean up the scan because they're wayy too valuable to be sent off to be cast from tbh - or at least that's how I'd do it
