Great thread! That thing about personal space was a good one. My hubby travels on occasion and when he comes back it's hard to get used to another person being there. I once hid on the deck and was reading by candle-light after he'd been away for quite some time and I needed ME time after only a few hours of him being home! I was happy he was there, but needed a few minutes of alone time... alone!

You might want to discuss chores. We didn't and it became a "I didn't notice that was dirty" or a "I did more than you!" thing... things got better once we decided what needed to be cleaned how often and by whom. That might be our personalities though.

Try not to sweat the small stuff. My hubby drives me batty with gunking up the counters. He can't seem to use a spoon rest (I have several in homes that he'll use one by accident) and I fought it for months and months and now years later he's still not trained. So I try ignore it and just wipe it up. He does stuff for me too, like he hates how I leave cups in the tv room, but I'm forgetful so, now he  manages to just clean them up for me... so it all evens out.

All the best on this new chapter in your life! Crossing my fingers that you'll get the right place!

Does anyone else's pets wrestle and make noise ONLY when you're on the telephone!?

Nope, but my dog barks almost exclusively when I turn on the video camera. I think she did it once or twice for attention and I gave her a treat to quiet her, so now pretty much all of our home videos have the dog complaining in the background as I set a precedent... sigh...

lol, love this thread!

My Pom used to make this meow sound when she wanted attention, she still does but not as frequently as she used to. I think she's a cat trapped in a dog's body as she hates dogs but loves cats... when she was a pup, there was a mommy cat used to groom her and so when we got her she'd always try to play with cats but running up to them and licking their faces. Seriously confused pup here.

She also growls and bites at my feet at the beginning of our walks, or after I stop to talk to a neighbour. It's SUPER embarrassing!

Azteca, my mom's parrot used to yell "SHUUUUT UPP!" when our dogs barked... apparently we were NOT good examples of proper language for our bird...

I have a pom and use something along the lines of a furminator also. It's great for getting undercoat out when she sheds. Like a Boarder Collie (I used to have a Border Collie mix), she does a big shed 2x a year, so for the past 2 years I've used the furminator to keep it under control, then took her to a groomer to get her coat blown out. SO worth it if you can find a good groomer.  If you can't afford a groomer, the furminator should still work well, you'll just have to do it diligently when your pup is doing her big shed.  If you use one just be sure not to do the same area too much as it can irritate the skin and pull out hair once it's taken all the loose stuff.

I have a friend with a boarder collie and she uses a horse shedding blade as lovesbabysquirmy mentioned and says it does a great job.

avene1984 So lovely... I wish my floors would look like that! Ours are old and stained and I wanted to replace them... but I currently have two messy toddlers so we're going to wait a year or two. It's frustrating to clean them and there still be so many stains. I wish I had purchased a wet-vac years ago as there might be a few less!

Garbage also sucks, like SnorkMaiden said it has to be right on time (we get fined if you put it out early as it was attracting bears and raccoons in our area) and I just want to sleep in! Luckily hubby does it when he's in town. When he's not I have to set an extra alarm, but then end up waiting at 5am and doing it then anyway since I'll just lay in bed waiting for the alarm otherwise. I think I may get a bit too stressed for something so silly, but now they have so many extra conditions on what can go it what bin and threats of fines if you do it wrong. I take it all too seriously I guess!

Love stories like this! Really, there are so many more of these stories but we so often only share the sad ones (well at least the news does). Thank you for sharing! So glad for people like those two ladies who helped you!

I dislike cleaning the bathroom, but it's decluttering that really gets me. Which is crazy since I also hate clutter... so I have one terrrible terrible room in the house that no one can see. Every so often I go in there and tackle my secret shame. I really want to use that room for something useful, but its' so hard to keep on top of the clutter!

I write it all down and set budgets for the year which I break down into per month amounts. I find having it all written down really helps me stay on focus and not just spend it all away.

My brothers both have secondary savings accounts where they have 10% of their paycheck deposited to each month, that way they don't miss it since it happens right away, and that money is used for emergencies and future big things.

Oy, that's disturbing for all the reasons you all stated. The piggy bank idea is good though, or feeding it toys for storage.

I tried it years and years ago with a borrowed GPS (before phones had them). It was fun. I can't remember what we put in it, but I still have the ladybug magnet that I took out of the first one we did. We didn't exchange other than the first one, but we always filled in the little log book. I can't wait to do this with my kids in a few years! So fun!
