« on: August 20, 2013, 06:49:55 AM »
I wanted to go to tne NY Ren festival but I wor every weeend  >_< Plus no one is willing to drive me anyways.

I did go to the Arizona Ren festival a few years ago though  in costume too

Yeah, going in costume is my favorite part, well, next to people watching everyone else in costume. I love seeing what all the super dedicated people come up with!

Oh very cool!  I love the fire lizard!  What did you make her out of?  I haven't gone yet, but I do plan to go the LA renfair in the fall. It's such fun.

There is a hollow wire frame and metal mesh making her basic form, then I mostly used apoxie, until I realized I was running out, then I made the rest of the body in an air dry clay and finished the details in apoxie. The wings are movable and are a paper, hot glue, and plastic dip mixture.

Let's hear about it!

Here's some pictures of me at the one nearest to my home. I made a Fire Lizard from the Pern book series to accompany me on my shoulder this year :)

I've never liked the feeling of people looking or talking about me, but this time it was ok because I knew exactly what they were talking about! You could just hear whispers of "dragon" everywhere I walked. The best part was all the children who thought she was real. One boy pet her and then pulled his hand away really fast like she was going to bite him.

I really liked the way she turned out, however, I am going to have to rework my design next time, because this first run turned out heavier than I wanted; I still have bruises on my shoulders from where she sat over a week ago!

Anything memorable happen on your trips back in time?

Customs / Help! URGENT need for Apoxie Sculpt!
« on: August 03, 2013, 01:07:26 PM »
I'm working on a large project that I need to finish this weekend. I'm starting to worry that I'm going to run out of apoxie sculpt.

I can't really wait for the mail to get more, so I'm just posting this up here to see if there is anyone living in around a 30 minute radius from Rochester, New York who would be willing and able to sell me any Aves Apoxie Sculpt that they have on hand (especially if you have a full or partial 4 lb container)?

I'm gonna keep chugging along to see if I have enough, but I'm calling out to you guys for back up in case I run into trouble.

Thanks for any help!

Funnily enough, the base sculpting on this pony was started before Friendship is Magic even began airing. It started because I had leftover apoxie sculpt after a different project so I used it to sculpt a creature on the rump of a pony. Then my bait sat there for probably a year or so, and FiM came out, and eventually I was inspired to make Twilight Sparkle and realized my little creature would make a great base for an interpretation of Spike since Twilight carries him on her back frequently anyways. Also, in classic Spike-fashion, he is napping through his ride. I did most of the sculpting/painting of the two of them last summer, but finally got around to finishing the pair this summer. It is possible because of all this delay I've been beaten to this interpretation, but I still like them.

Twilight's lion-like tail and fur-framed horn are inspired by unicorns in Renaissance tapestries, which are often associated with "realistic" depictions of unicorns. Also, rest assured that there is a purple streak in her hair. It may be hard to see in the photo, but I stayed true to the show design, well, that is minus the cutie mark. I skipped the cutie mark to try and keep closer to "realism". But anywaaays, enough talking. I hope you enjoy them! If you have any interest in having this pair for your own, send me a message!

I love dragons and this is really awesome!  I need to finish the Pern books, actually.  I never made it all the way through.  You did a great job!

There's so many of them! I feel like I need to be constantly rereading from the beginning to remember everything that is happening.

Here is a dragon bust I sculpted last summer and finally painted this summer. I'm pretty proud of finishing him up and I wanted to show him off and share him with some other dragon enthusiasts like me. If you happen to be a Pern fan, you may notice that I gave him smooth skin instead of scaly skin because of the leathery skin of Pernese dragons. I also based him on a bronze coloring from Pernese influence. However, he cannot be fully considered a Pern dragon because his features do not adhere strictly to the Pern-type. But anyways, I hope you enjoy him!

I figured that since this is an "off topic" sale it might catch better attention here than with everyone searching for ponies in the sales forum.

Here's the link to my sales post: http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,301710.0.html

Thanks!

Pony Corral / Re: How many ponies in your collection?
« on: May 18, 2012, 12:25:54 PM »
I used to have somewhere around 330, but around three/four years ago I sold it all down to my favorite 16 or so and plan to keep it that way (give or take). Decided I would rather admire ponies from afar and keep my pocketbook thicker for other things.
