That's a nice army! I forgot I also have the Stranger Things AJ and multiple G4s. I want the Hallmark ornament too.

Aww, well I hope you find her soon, and all the other ones you want!  :)

I only add about two ponies a year so I don't know if that means I'm almost done or have a long way to go.  :P

 That's some restraint you've got there!

BlackCurtains I love that you focus on orange ponies - you've seen my avatar, right?

Yes! You collect Applejacks, I assume? I do too :) I'd like as many G1 as I can afford. So far I just have Italy AJ, she was also my first Nirvana. I'm really hunting for the CP UK one and the curly haired one.

Yes, if there's an AJ version of anything, then I need it  She was my first ever pony as a child so she will always be very special.

From memory, I have the UK version, the short-haired US version, Italian AJ, Venny squeaky butt AJ, Stranger Things AJ, Peruvian AJ, a white Colombian AJ, a Happy Meal AJ, G4 AJ (a few different ones), G3 AJ....and probably some I've missed!

Still looking for 35th anniversary Basic Fun AJ - she seems very elusive!

It's really interesting to hear so many varied answers.

stjarne, I'm so pleased to hear that your collecting/collection brings you so much joy! That's the whole point of it afterall. And LadyAmalthea, really sorry to hear about your health problems.

BlackCurtains I love that you focus on orange ponies - you've seen my avatar, right?

It's sad to hear that cost is an issue for so many (for me too) and that, for whatever reason, eBay has become such a nightmare especially with shipping fees and customs charges etc.

Also interesting that most seem to have a pony "hiatus" at times. I do this too but it's not a conscious decision, I just kind of drift in and out of actively focusing on ponies.... It just seems to have a natural rhythm of its own

Pony Corral / Re: Any collectors here that are also horse people?
« on: June 26, 2022, 10:36:34 AM »
I can ride and it's my favourite thing in the world to do. Sadly, I don't have my own horse and riding is so expensive here in the UK that unless you know someone whose horse you can ride, it's very difficult to ride on a regular basis.

I started having riding lessons when I was 7 and my first MLP was bought for me at age 7 but i don't think there's a link! I've always thought of them separately, for some reason...

I've been collecting ponies for over 20 years now and started with G1. I then started to buy G3s when they were in the shops and never thought I'd bother with G2. However, I now have a large G2 collection as well. Then when G4 came out, I just had to get all those cute little ponies!

However, I have decided, having seen the G5 designs, to stop at G4 and focus on filling in all the gaps in my existing collection and appreciate and care for the ponies I've got, rather than keep on and on collecting.

At what point do you think you will stop? Will you ever? Are there certain gens you will never collect? Do you like G5 enough to continue collecting those or will you collect them purely for completeness? Will you continue if there's a G6, G7, G8...?

I'd love to hear your thoughts!  :)

Pass. She's too garish for me and I don't like her pose.

Absolutely adore this pony and am lucky enough to own her, and to have bought her years ago when she was less horrendously priced. She's just unique and I love her colours, pose and parrot symbol!

Have both silver and white star versions of her. She's very pretty and she's in my favourite pose!

She's a weird one...but I love her. Have her too, although she was quite pricey.

My initial reaction was NOOOOO! But I guess if you really want to, you could just try it with a very baity common pony and see what happens? I would still agree with everyone else, though, and say that I would just stick with hand washing and see it as part of the process of collecting vintage toys.
