Pony Corral / Re: G4 Blind Bag Help?
« on: July 29, 2018, 12:30:43 PM »
I did a tour of stores yesterday with the hopes of finding more blind bags.  I found release #16 at Dollar Tree, and judging from how full the box was, it was a recent addition to their inventory (looks like I need one from that assortment, so I guess I'll be going back to that store in the near future).  K-Mart is well-stocked with wave #15, so I don't see them restocking any time soon.  No luck at Dollar General, but Kohl's was overflowing with blind bags.... Specifically wave #20 and wave #22.

Thank you both!

Sounds like I may have to write off hope of ever getting wave #19.  Unless they're sitting in a warehouse somewhere and get released at a dollar store at a later date.

Pony Corral / G4 Blind Bag Help?
« on: July 20, 2018, 07:14:37 PM »
Blind bags have been rather hit or miss in my area, and I'm positive there are releases that never showed up in stores around here.  I was wondering what stores received the following waves:

#19
#20 (have found some of these at Walmart & Target, but still missing a few)
#21
#23

I found waves #22 (Family Dollar) and #24 (Target) with no problems.  Some of these are old releases, but I've found wave #20 in the last month so I'm holding out hope for the rest.

I'm also really hoping these aren't being replaced by Cutie Mark Crew...

NOOOOOOOOO I really don't like this design....
Agreed.  Oh well, I haven't watched any Care Bears episodes since the AiCAL series (and only the first five of those!), and I won't be watching this series either.

I watched it!
"This... faculty lot you speak of sounds like a place of great power."

That amused me.  I backed it up about five times just to replay that scene.  And then again at the end when her alternate said it. :D  Plus, you know, the fact those particular characters were actually interacting.

Spoiler
...As ponies!  It's those short pony moments that keep me watching the EG specials and movies.  It's usually the best part, though there are exceptions (like Maud's cameo in Rainbow Rocks).

Considering this resolved a few things, I really don't mind the rehashed plot.  I just hope that once they graduate high school Sunset Shimmer returns to Equestria.  I'm sure she has friends and family there she misses too.

Now that Toy Fair's here and more information has been released, has anyone compiled a nice, easy to print out list of all the 35th anniversary ponies/playsets announced to date?

Does anyone know how many characters are going to be in the 35th anniversary series?  I like Cheer and Share but I'm not really planning to pick them up unless they're planning on doing a lot of characters.  I don't need the same six bears over and over again.

Checked five Targets today, no sign of them.  I did, however, see the retro Strawberry Shortcake dolls and Care Bears.  Would the ponies have been put out at the same time, in which case then I know I missed them, or is it possible the ponies may get put out at a later date.  The reason I ask is I have no local Target (there's no Target, Toys R Us, or even Starbucks in my county).  As it stands I needed to travel today, so I took one route there (hitting three Targets on the way) and another way home (stopping at another two on the way home).  But this isn't a trip I want to make with any frequency, especially to come up empty.

I did, however, finally break down and buy G4.5 merchandise (so at least my pony hunt wasn't completely futile).  Songbird Serenade is just too cute to refuse, especially at 20% off.  Even if she does come bundled with yet another Twilight Sparkle (really, really don't like the new TS mold).  Songbird, on the other hoof, looks close enough to the regular G4s that I'm perfectly fine with adding her to my herd.

My other question is regarding the Care Bears - does anyone know how many different bears are going to be issued?  I only saw Cheer and Share, and I was tempted to grab them... but I don't want to end up with a 'complete set' that's a grand total of two bears.

The only Care Bear I picked up last year. ;)  The back of her packaging indicates a contest for kids under 12 to submit their OCs and three will be chosen to be produced.  So, here's hoping we see three new characters in 2018!

I crunch numbers.  It's a thing I do, so bear with me.  I've quantified this data by my own (biased) scale of enjoyment.  I have a 1-10 star ranking scale for the episodes.  By season:

Season:   1 2  3  4  5  6  7
10 stars: 4  2  1  1  0  2  0
9 stars:   5  6  2  0  2  3  2
8 stars:   3  1  0  7  5  3  6
7 stars:   2  0  3  2  9  6  6
6 stars:   2  2  1  1  2  5  5
5 stars:   0  4  2  6  3  1  1
4 stars:   3  4  3  4  2  3  2
3 stars:   3  0  0  3  0  1  2
2 stars:   1  3  0  1  0  0  2
1 stars:   3  4  1  1  3  2  0

My own take is one that echoes many of the complaints above, and that's that the series is stagnating (and has been since Twilight's ascension; which remains the point where the series jumped the shark in my opinion).  The early seasons had more 'hits' but they also had more 'misses' when it comes to my enjoyment of the episodes.  This most recent season had no episodes I despised enough to give only a one-star ranking, but it also had none I loved enough to give ten stars to.  Season 6 was a surprising uptick for me.  Buckball Season in particular strikes me as one of the best episodes of the entire series.

Later seasons are doing better in my rankings because they're so vanilla fewer new episodes are going into my 'hate it' territory).  That mediocrity is enough to make season 6 my favorite season by overall score.  But I don't like season 6 enough to give it my overall favorite season.  That honor goes to season 1.

The thing that bugged me most about season 7 is they brought back Iron Will, which is something I've been worried about since his first episode way back in season 2.  His episode would have been better served with the Flim Flam brothers as the villains, in all honesty.  I like Iron Will - he was a motivational speaker who believed in himself just a little too much.  And when Fluttershy said 'no' he left.  No scheming to get revenge.  No 'I'll get you next time, Gadget!'  He just left.  Now he's another money-grubbing get-rich-quick schemer like the already existing Flim Flam brothers.  Sigh.

I'd like to hear more about the Nordstrom and the Care Bears x Hot Topic bears.  Any pics?

You can see the Land of Nod/Nordstrom Care Bears here https://www.landofnod.com/care-bears Lots of people aren't liking them but I think they're adorable. Can't get them in Canada though so I'm waiting on a few to come in the mail from some fellow collectors. I also have the 3 Hot Topic Bears, forgot to mention those. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow.

Thank you!  I'm not sure why the Nordstrom Care Bears are controversial  - they remind me of a blend of the two styles (vintage and modern 'troll hair' varieties).  The Hot Topic bears on the other hoof...  Definitely not my cup of tea.  Nothing I need between either, as I don't see any new characters, but I always appreciate knowing what's out there.  Thank you very much!

I should have been clearer - I meant what is the make & model of car?  Who makes it?  I've never seen one, they're not available in my country, and I'm curious.  I'm familiar with microcars, just not this particular one.

Brand is Microcar and model is Virgo, (Highlands edition).
:)
Merci!

Another long time Care Bear collector here.  Been there, done that, retired (put out to pasture?) to the MLP community.  I still pick up the occasional piece here or there (this year was Rainbow Heart Bear, last year I picked up the 'they should have done these years ago!' Build-A-Bear Care Bears).  Really though, I only pick up one of each new character as they show up.  Until the day when they make every single character all in one series so they match I just can't support the endless repeats of Tender Heart, Cheer, Grumpy, etc.

I'd like to hear more about the Nordstrom and the Care Bears x Hot Topic bears.  Any pics?

First of all, that's a nice car!  What is it?

It is a car that you can drive without a driving license. Called microcar, they cannot go faster than 50km/h.
Just perfect for me, as i don't have a license and i'm afraid of speed :)

Also, one other idea for an accessory: a mini disco ball to hang from the car's rearview mirror.  I picked one up years ago, so I know they exist.

The same thirty songs remixed by three thousand different artists?  No thank you.

The few (I can count them on one hand) Christmas songs I like stay on my playlist all year long:

Last Christmas (Wham!)
Happy Xmas (War Is Over) (John Lennon)
All Alone On Christmas (Darlene Love)

And a song that's not really a Christmas song but gets played at this time of year specifically because it mentions Christmas Eve & New Year's in the lyrics:

Same Old Lang Syne (Dan Fogelberg)

Likewise with the Peanuts theme (Linus and Lucy by the Vince Guaraldi Trio) which gets played due to the popularity of the Christmas special, though it should be noted this song was never exclusive to the Christmas special.
