Pony Corral / Re: Deflocking damaged so softs with goo gone?
« on: June 21, 2018, 10:15:14 AM »
Update: 90% isopropyl works way better than 50%  ^^;
I'll post some pictures later, but it removed the glue almost as well as the acetone and didnt touch the symbols
Guess I wont be needing that goo gone
As for a fish knife, I dont have one of those but I have been using some clay carving tools with a similar tapered edge for scraping when my fingernail starts to hurt, and they work great. The only problem is certain areas are hard to reach, especially with the rearing pose. But that's what fingernails are for.

...I've been using 50%
That's likely my problem

The acetone is the only thing I've had sucess with, I just cant use it on or around symbols
I already accidentally removed most of wind whistler's cutie marks that way   :yikes: :yikes: she was in more or less bait condition anyway so its not like I ruined a good pony at least

The rubbing alchohol hasnt worked well for me, beingabout as effective as hot water and only removing the flocking but not the glue. Maybe I'm not using enough or scrubbing hard enough?

It depends on the glue. The ponies I'm working on right now have very yellowed glue and flocking that just can't be allowed to stay, and hot water and scrubbing can get most of the flocking off but the glue is far more stubborn. Scrubbing with my fingernail with near boiling water in one spot still can't remove all of the glue, and the difference in color between the areas cleaned with acetone and the areas near symbols that have just gotten hot water and scrubbing is very obvious to me.

Acetone can only go so far, and jasco scares me too much to go near. Has anyone tried deflocking damaged so softs with a product like goo gone? Their website claims its safe on paint and plastic, so I think its worth a try. But asking for others' experiences first before trying it myself seemed the best plan.

Off Topic / Re: What manga are you reading?
« on: June 18, 2018, 01:13:22 PM »
I'm always in the process of rereading Fullmetal Alchemist, I adore it so much (side note, the manga is way better than the second anime adaptation Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, but the first anime adaptation, commonly called fma 03, split off pretty early in the story as it was made before the manga finished and in my opinion easily stands on its own as an anime if you dont compare it to the 'source material')
I'm also reading Legend of Arslan, and I've been looking around for physical copies of Junji Ito's work as I've only ever read legally-grey digital versions and I want to support the author. Uzumaki in particular is one I'd love to have in hardback on my shelf.

Introductions / Returning after 6 years
« on: June 18, 2018, 12:31:39 PM »
Hello! I recently got back into pony collecting after an almost six year break. Its been a long time, and I am not the same person as I was when I made this account.
Call me Gray, or sparkleskye, or just Skye. My gender is lunarian (look it up) but I dont mind being referred to as a girl. I'm 20, living in Texas with my mom as I try to get my health sorted out. Chronic illness more or less runs my life right now.
I began collecting way back in 2012, after watching mlpfim for a few months, and after remembering the two ponies my grandparents gave me when I was much younger. Those two were Sparkleworks and Autumn Skye, and though I've lost my childhood Sparkleworks both ponies now live on in my username.
I collect all generations, though I prefer G1 and G2 and mostly collect baity G3 and G4 to turn into customs.
My favorite pony that I currently own is brush n grow Bouquet, who has all of her beautiful hair intact and a still functioning mechanism.
My ultimate grail is merry go round Flower Bouquet, I simply adore her colors and design and want to own one myself more than anything.
The best part of pony collecting for me is restoration. Because of my limited budget I cant afford mint ponies, nor do I really want them. I love taking ponies most would consider bait and restoring them back to their former glory. Seeing an old, well loved pony look beautiful again makes all the hard work and frustration worth it.

Customs / Paralyzed By Fear
« on: June 10, 2018, 08:16:22 AM »
I am very very new to customs, about all I've done is prepare bait and rehair one G4. I also don't have much artistic talent in general. I want to customize, and I have all the supplies I need to do it, but I am frozen in terror at the thought of messing up a custom and that fear has kept me from even attempting a face up.
Does anyone else suffer from this fear of failure? Or have any tips on mitigating customizing disasters when they do happen?

Pony Corral / Interior grime and rust
« on: June 07, 2018, 02:43:40 PM »
I've recently come into possesions of some extremely well loved g3s. The insides are organge with rust and brown with dirt and its quite disgusting. I've removed heads and let them all soak in a hot oxiclean bath, rinsed them out, and scrubbed as well as I could with toothbrushes and q-tips, but I can't reach everywhere with this method and a lot of the ponies are still dirty inside. Any suggestions for cleaning these girls?
Most of them are too baity to be saved regardless of interior grime so I'm not terribly concerned with preserving symbols or hair.

Off Topic / Chronic Illness and Toy Collecting
« on: June 02, 2018, 08:05:03 AM »
I have a chronic illness that leave me bedridden most of my day, both from pain and lack of energy.
I love toy collecting/restoration/customization, but lately I find I usually cant get out of bed to work on my collection. I have a spare room full of ponies in need of restoration or customizing, and yet no work is getting done on them despite how much I want to.
Are there any other collectors out there fighting chronic illness? What strategies to you use to work on your collection despite your illness?

Pony Corral / Frizzy Beach Ball Rehair
« on: May 28, 2018, 07:30:46 AM »
I’ve recently come into possession of a G1 Beach Ball with extremely frizzed up hair. She’s from the sunshine pony set, so the white streak is meant to turn purple in sunlight, which mine sort of does but not very vibrantly. The problem is I’m not sure there’s any hope to tame her factory hair into anything presentable, but there’s no replacement hair on the market that turns from white to purple in sunlight.
I’ve also heard that heat will ruin sunshine hair, so boiling or using a straightner is out of the question, but I can only find one source on that and no one else agreeing or disagreeing, and I’m hesitant to test it myself.
Should I go ahead and rehair with a normal white? Or keep the frizzy mess of her factory hair?

Introductions / Intoduction to Ponyland
« on: July 30, 2012, 07:41:36 AM »
Hi :)
My name is Cassy Tyler (not my real name, im kinda really cautious about revealing anything on the internet. everyone just knows me as Cassy Tyler)
I live in Texas and it is sooo hot here, but at least I dont have to worry about humididty conspiring with mold to infect my ponies like i did in Louisiana.
Im a teenager, and I go to high School. I'm a viper! Hiss! ...i dont really care, I've never been into football much(or any sport for that matter)
I've been colecting for all of 2 months now, but I do have a sizeable collection of around 90-100, split fairly halfway between G1s and G3s. I have 3 G4s (two I bought from walmart, and one (a first release Rarity) from my local-ish GoodWill) I have one G2 and she is one of my favorites, a not movey/posable Lightheart with a year stamp of 1997 which many G2 identification websites dont think exist *shrug*
I got into collecting after having owned a Autumn Skye since i was 7ish, and then finally discovering MLP:FiM 3ish months ago. I would really like to get more G2s since i think they are very pretty and would like at least one to customize. sadly i dont have any "rare" ponies except a Minty which i think might be rare but she has a really bad hair cut so she has lost a lot of her value
now for some non-pony related info! my favorite TV shows are (in no particular order) Doctor Who, Merlin, Sherlock, Danny Phantom, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Eureka, Warehouse 13, Lost and a few others i cant remeber right now.
I watch Youtube a lot, Vlogbrothers, Charlieissocoollike, littleradge. I went to Vidcon last month! it was sooo awesome (vidcon, video-conference, the comiccon for youtube)
I play video games Ratchet and Clank, Pokemon(I <3 all gens), Assassin's Creed, Portal, Super Smash Bro's Brawl. I want to play Half-Life but i dont have enough money, I spent it all on ponies...
yeah thats it! again, Hi!
