Pony Corral / How did Sundance get her name?
« on: October 09, 2018, 03:06:19 AM »
Sundance is kind of a weird name for the pony in question.  I mean.  Most ponies have names that have something to do with their symbols/cutie marks, if only peripherally.  Sundance though?  I only see it as place names or as a Native American ceremony.  Where on earth did that name come from?

I've been planning to put my Tux up for sale and I'm surprised at the prices they're running for right now.  Yours isn't the one that's up to $280 now, is it?

Why do they call them 'Loyal Subjects'?

The release of G2s would have coincided with the Yugoslav Wars, so I kind of doubt that any were released in Yugoslavia, though I wouldn't know either way.  The wars themselves were terrible and would have had a profound economic impact on the former Yugoslavian States:

For G1s, I typically use Bluerose's G1 Priceguide.  She actually monitors Ebay sales and finds averages of the prices to give us a price index:

Star Glow's price may also vary, I think, depending on which version you have -- I think one has blue hearts and the other has pink, or something like that, but I can't remember the specifics or which is rarer.

Thanks to everyone for all the great advice!

Or hang on to them until next year and sell them at the Canadian Extravaganza!

:Blinks: Canadian Extravaganza?  What is this sorcery you speak of?

I bought one Paradise Estate online a long time ago and it was shipped to me and it arrived okay with nothing broken, but it had discoloration so I didn't want it and I met up with a pony collector who wanted it and gave it to her for free. She was not very close to me, but in the same state, and I arranged to take a trip to her city and personally delivered it right to her door. Then, I bought another (absolutely mint, complete Paradise estate with box) from a local pony collector (yay, no shipping involved) and later on (sadly) sold it and shipped it across the country. It was like 15 years ago and it cost a fortune to ship even then. It might have cost close to $100 for shipping and the box, but I sent it by UPS, not USPS. It arrived fine. I used huge amounts of bubblewrap and spent a lot of time packing it carefully... I don't ever want to ship that again. I tthink it is best to find someone local if possible.

Yeah... packing things for shipping is a PAIN.  Especially since the plastic for playsets is so brittle.  I've come to loathe hard plastic.  It breaks and discolours so easily.

Okay, ponies.  Is this really, for real?  We can ship anywhere in Canada for free every Tuesday in October??? Or is Canada Post just punking us?

I found this link:

https://www.canadapost.ca/cpc/en/business/shipping/free-shipping-tuesday.page?ecid=display_pdn_sr_795

Someone please confirm this.  And then please start buying my ponies.

Ouch.  I think I am going to do this local then, if at all possible...

So I have a Paradise Estate that is like 75% complete.  And a nearly complete Show Stable and Dream Castle.  Not to mention a Pretty Parlor and that mint green/purple redo that came out later, and the building for Megan's Place, and that Petite Pony Castle.  I'd really love for all of these to find a home other than my parents' basement where they'd be loved and cherished, because I frankly don't have the time or space for them.

Except they're huge, and Canadian shipping sucks.  Also, I'm terrified to put them in the mail system, because that plastic is freaking FRAGILE.

So.  How have you sold or shipped playsets?  I'm thinking of putting out feelers in the local community.  Or, like, trying to see if any folks on the Arena wanna make a vague map of which cities have Pony People looking to sell or trade in person at public places so as to avoid the post office and its attendant risks.  Thoughts?

When I woke up at like 7 AM and was trying to transfer money into my bank account, I found the whole mess and my account in the red.  Even explaining to the bank was no help, they were like, you gave Paypal access, they have policies, so sorry about your luck but YOU overdrafted, now you owe US bank fees.

That's insane.  I can't believe some of this is actually legal.

It's a bit tricky for me to sell at all.  I don't have Facebook and I don't want it.  I don't use Paypal after I was burned hard on a $1000 + bank fee transaction

WHAT??????

OMFG.  HOW does that even happen?  And they don't send out collection agencies for that kind of crap if you refuse to pay, do they?

I'm just so confused.  I spent years going to yard sales and asking people if they had MLP, and then I have a yard sale FULL of pony, and nobody wants any of them????  >_<

Oh, that brings back memories.  I remember, as a gimlet-eyed little ten year old, sizing up the people holding yard sales and trying to predict if they were kids in the eighties, and whether they might have some ponies for me.  The best was this one yard sale I went to, and the teenage girl said yes and went into the back and came out with a HUGE SHOPPING BAG filled with ponies and accessories.  I was flipping ecstatic.  One of the happiest moments of my childhood.  I got home and spent hours looking through them.  She had a ton of Meghan and Sundance outfits.

... And of course, that was in the late 90s, when you could still hope to get 30 ponies and accessories for twenty bucks.  Then and now, I still think fondly of whoever that teenage girl was for letting her girls pass into my hands.

So.

Canadian shippings SUCKS.

I've run into a few weird things about it too.  Like, I calculated shipping with tax on the regular Canada Post website within Canada, and it came out to $13.40 with my business card.  And then I went to buy the same shipping on Paypal, and it came out $2 more expensive, even though it was supposedly taking my business card into account.

Shipping with Paypal gives the buyer some assurance that you are using the postage money for postage and that the article was shipped.  But I'd really prefer to avoid extra shipping costs for my buyers, and at least be able to predict what those costs will be if the buyers prefer I print the labels through Paypal.

Are Paypal shipping fees a thing, or did I miss something?

With the resurrection of G1s would anyone be interested in a jumbo-sized pony?

Noooooo.  This already happened--they were called Soft Sleepy Newborns, and they looked like they were just BEGGING to be the MLP version of Chucky.

I had one growing up, and we called it Monster Pony.  My brother used to run around and pretend it was stomping all my ponies to death, like Ponyzilla or something.  Under the circumstances, I don't think I can trust Hasbro with gigantic G1s ever again.

Pony Corral / PC: G1 Mint Pink Mermaid (Baby Pearly)

So... (scared look) please don't throw baity ponies at me for asking for another PC, but I've been out of the Arena for awhile and need help

I have a mint Baby Pearly.  Normally I manage to find something wrong with my G1s, but I can't quite manage it in her case.  Thoughts?
