Pony Corral / Re: Letting go...
« on: April 04, 2015, 01:43:23 PM »
I think that there are ponies I could let a kid play with and ones I could not.

When my sister and I were little, we were quite good with them on the whole. The only bad thing Naynie did to one of my ponies was write her name on the hooves because she confused it with hers (and it has since worn off). And that was when she was about four and couldn't even write very well...so I think kids can treat things nicely. None of ours ever got cut hair or chewed on or anything like that and Naynie was around them from when she was born, pretty much and I always trusted her with them, even taking my ponies to her friend's house (she's about 6 years younger than I am).

Oh, she did drop one of them down the toilet at her friend's house, but the pony survived, the loo was clean at the time (a very fastidious Japanese family's house, thankfully) and the pony got disinfected so all ended happily...and the pony didn't even lose her curls.

Ahem. As I was saying...

I think teaching the kid to take care of the toys as well as play with them is maybe important with something like MLP. I don't agree that G1 should never be played with - that was their raison d'etre and they should still be loved by children even if they are loved by adults, too - but if it's super rare or super mint, it probably needs to stay out of reach.

Pony Corral / Re: How do you get a Mimic exactly?
« on: April 04, 2015, 12:38:57 PM »
Looks mint with card rather than on card. Which in my estimation makes the card worth about $200 in that sale. O.o. I've seen MOC Mimic on ebay before, but it sold for an obscene price.

I love my Mimic and her card, but you know, if I thought someone would pay $200 for the card on its own, I might be convinced to sell it ><.

(Or not >.>)

I believe this is the set she belonged to. The image scan isnt' perfect but it's her in the top right corner, "Sucre D'Orge." I think she was there in place of Gypsy or Honeycomb. This is the equivalent image/set from the UK release that same year, which makes it look like she replaced Honeycomb and Lickety replaced Gypsy:

So that is my general assumption. I'm pretty sure from the MOC image Rosse lent me that she was on the year before card in Scandinavia, too, so probably she existed in 85 and 86?

Her symbol looks silver and gold to me. Just faded gold. ;)

My pics are quite big, so I'm not going to post the whole set. Here's a couple of mine, though...

It took me so long to split her hair evenly into bunches xd.  She STILL has her hair like this after a long time O.o.

My favourite. :D

My childhood favourite. I have one with better hair somewhere, but she's currently on a long hike through my wardrobe (!?) on a scenting mission so I don't know where she is. Perfume Puff Ponies smell awesome :D

I also saw higher up someone with a Daisy Sweet with white hair. I'm still trying to figure that one out, whether it's a variation or a fade, but here's my one of those, too:

She doesn't look faded to me :-/.

Also, the custom ones look awesome. Some of them really ought to have been made. I would love to know what kind of material here in the UK could be acquired to root like that. I would so try it.

Pony Corral / Re: ID this G1 heart brush? I am stumped.

Are you sure it's not an accessory from the second Grooming Parlour/Brush me Beautiful Boutique? There are some variations to loose accessories with these, and there's also a Snuzzle Parlour release over here in the Uk, though I don't know, I think her brush was pink too (you might have to check with Chrissytree, since she's the only person I know here who has/had a Snuzzle one...)

My Kiss Curl Parlour (BMBB) is currently in the attic, in fact, we spent the last 2 days LOOKING for it because my poor Kiss Curl is trapped inside, so I am not sure. But if it matches the style of the Grooming Parlour/Pretty Parlor, and it's just a different colour, that would be my guess...

My insert for Kiss Curl shows a pink brush, but it's just a drawing, so :-/

There's a Shiny Charizard offer at Game?

Although I think I already have a Shiny Charizard in my Y game somewhere...O.o. She's dark, right? With red inside her wings??

The last offer I did was Darkrai...I don't always do them, but that time I had to get a code for a friend as well.

Pony Corral / Re: Why won't Hasbro release new ponies?
« on: April 04, 2015, 06:49:56 AM »
I won't touch the brony thing with a bargepole because I find that term offensive when applied my way...but lets not forget Hasbro think MLP began in 1983 when we all know it was 1982, so I don't put much stock in their research really. I think it only goes as far as profit these days since I have letters from Hasbro UK in 95 that gave me info but that info had been lost when I wrote to them about G3 some years on. Its evudent from the fact Hasbro also didn't correctly name Princess Amethyst when issuing merchandise here a few years ago, whereas on the list I have from 95, Amethyst is listed with her dragon and everything correctly.

My point is that Hasbro have not built new MLP on the foundations of G1, even if Lauren Faust drew on a lot of G1 to develop the show. They built it on their most recent understanding of MLP, which is the core characters and copyrights and research infirmation they have to hand.

Hasbro no longer hold records relating to G1, I have written to enough of them over the years  and have been told that exact thing. It would be lovely if G4 could be more like G1, but the truth is it can't be. The style of sale for G4 mirrors the style of sale for G3, with a core set, others with little in the way of development as characters, many similar poses, colours, remakes if certain ponies over and over. They are just smaller, so that probably saves on production cost, even if it has not reduced retail cost.

If not for the FIM cartoon, there would not be much to separate them. But, when the cartoon ends, what then?

I also agree with ladybastila's assessment. G4 is the show, and that is as far as Hasbro want to go.

Haha xD Judging by the frequency of arriving parcels, I think your house might be on the way to getting really crowded with small equine critters. Is your other half ready for the invasion?

Your ponies look really pretty though. Especially the Lofty. A really minty So Soft is, somehow, so much more awesome than the average minty pony...

Dancing Butterflies wouldve looked lovely if she had a streak of Crumpet Gold in that yellow mane. Though I like her like that.

I adore Princess Pearl as she is. I think if Hasbro hadn't made her how she is, I would probably have cried. But then I had a major obsession with her as a kid, even though I never HAD her as a kid, because any pony who is empathic to everyone's feelings and who can cry wishing pearls is just plain awesome. (Plus I always felt her non-colour and gentle personality contrasted with Fiery the Dragon's red and yellow and accompanying bullheaded impetuosity. Of course, as a kid, I didn't use quite those words, but...you know...it made an impression xD)

Ok, going to stop fangirling Princess Pearl now before someone thwaps me with the off topic stick..ahem.

I disagree with the neon yellow haters. It looks weird on some ponies, but awesome on others. That brings me to the people who want a paler shady. UK Shady is one of my childhood ponies and she really is that bright...but that's what I love about her and the reason Dad bought her for me xD. And it suited her (slightly tripping and hallucinogenic) UK comic personality, so it's good with me.

I do agree though with everyone about the Birthflowers. I don't really like the regular ones. I went through mine earlier for photos and couldn't remember which ones I don't have. I am still not sure which of the three I don't have in my cupboard might be with my sister's ponies coming out of storage...they just don't make an impression.

AND I agree that Roogna's Lemon Drop looks awesome.

Ugh, don't get me started ranting about the mythical "British" accent...*groan*

14622
Hey :D Long time no speak, and thanks for that. Sister's ponies are finally starting to come out of storage so I hope the site will soon all work properly. And I am picking UK brains again. Wow, you had a lot of Brush and Grows (jealous, wanted Curly Locks as a kid!)

Interesting you also had Braids in box. Though I am pretty sure all the ones when I got mine were in boxes or I wouldve noticed...

Scans would be awesome, especially curious to see Braids' .

I think the difference is that America is a country most people's ancestors actively came to from somewhere, whereas it isn't quite the same in Europe. I admit, though, it seems a bit odd to me, since to my simple brain,  if you're from America, you're surely American XD.

By that reckoning, I guess that'd make me half Viking, a quarter Saxon and a quarter Celt, or something like that...

We can't ignore, either, that even if people collect it, G4 is not a collectable atm. It is a current release toy. But, when G1 was out and a lot of us were kids, it was not a collectable either, it too was a toy.

Lots if us collected them, though, and that childhood collecting grew into adult obsession. The big question is, what will the MLP kids of today grow into? They are the collectors of the future...is G4 strong enough now to be a toy THEY later turn into THEIR collectable based on THEIR nostalgia, or is it only ever going to be something collected by people like us? Not to underestimate that as a force but to me a toy only realky evolves into a collectable if the kids that grew up with it make it one. Otherwise it is just a toy some adults collect.

I have to sit on the fence on this one. I have always adored the second set more in terms of colour schemes, but Windy was my first ever pony and I cannot vote against her. Therefore, I can't decide :)
