Pony Corral / Re: POTD 4/14/2020 Baby Tic Tac Toe
« on: April 14, 2020, 12:56:31 PM »
I have her. I like her colors, but I wish she wasn't a first tooth pony. I always thought the first tooth ponies had a buck-toothed look to them; when my siblings and I played with them, they always came from the 'backwoods' pony family that lived in the rundown house at the end of the pony block (a shanty we built out of Lincoln logs) and talked funny. Our baby Tic Tac Toe was a boy, because we needed boy ponies and her/his colors were less feminine than most baby ponies.

I never had the adult Tic Tac Toe. Wish I did.

I wish I could post one for you, but I can't post pics to this site because I don't have a 3rd-party hosting site, and I don't know how to do that stuff  But I checked, and can tell you that if my Stardazzle is standing next to my adult Gusty, there is about an inch of height difference between the top of their heads, and if I compare the bottom of their hooves, Gusty's is about half the size of Stardazzle's! I hope that helps?

Arts & Crafts Corral / DIY Dream Castle
« on: April 13, 2020, 11:19:28 AM »
So during our isolation, my son and I have been watching the old 1986 pony movie on Hoopla (I ordered it on Amazon about a month ago but it hasn't arrived yet because it isn't 'essential'...whoever decided that movies aren't essential during a lockdown obviously doesn't have a 4-year-old!). He is a bright child who loves all things colorful and sparkly, and has taken a major interest in my recently unearthed childhood pony collection. He has inherited my collector mentality, and has learned all the ponies' names and covets all the ones we don't have in our herd! I'm having a hard time explaining why I can't just buy these toys like I could any toy that is in current production, and why the ones we have cannot be played with the way his other toys can. I did give him a couple of ponies that were in poor condition and of which I had duplicates, and bought him some G4 brushables to play with.

He has seen the Dream Castle featured in the movie, and wants it so badly! His last most recent 'obsession' was Frozen/Elsa/princess-mania, and castles are still very appealing to him. I never personally had the Dream Castle as a kid; it was out of production by the time I started collecting ponies. I don't really want to pay what it's going for on eBay, and wouldn't really want to give a 35-year-old fragile playset to him anyway, but I got to thinking about it, and wondered how hard it would be to make one!

I know there are many creative people on here, so I figured I'd come pick your brains for inspiration. My first thought was to use empty oatmeal cylinders for the turrets, but I'm not sure they would stand up to a child's play. My husband suggested some heavier-duty cardboard tubing or even PVC pipe. So what would you all use, for the turrets, the base, the straight sides, the cone-shaped turret-tops, and any other embellishments? Drawbridge suggestions? How would you attach it all together, and how would you hinge it so it could be opened up? Does anybody own an actual DC who could give me some measurements of how tall/wide/deep it is? (I don't need to follow dimensions exactly, but a basic knowledge of this would be nice, just to know I'm making it large enough to accommodate ponies)

I tried googling to see if anyone else had done this, on Etsy or Pinterest or something, and nothing came up...I can't believe I'm the only one to have thought to try this! I appreciate any help or suggestions anyone can offer!

Shame the line-art's earth Ponies. Were they unicorns I know EXACTLY who I'd have made this family!!! Oh well...

Using my own (not based on Hasbro) Customs in this: future OC persona Bookworm, yet to be Customised Taurus, & recently Customised Chocolate Bunny. No symbols added & only sealed lines to allow colouring in digitally. (Windows Paint)
I hope it's ok???

Doubt I'll win though lol

You did a great job but please read the competition rules carefully :) All entries are to be PM'd to ColoringContest and must stay anonymous for judging. Unfortunately we can't accept this entry anymore since it was posted here for everyone to see. I hope you'll find the time to make another, though!
Sorry about that

Just wanted to say I love the colors you did the ponies here, even if it can't be submitted...especially Bookworm (the adult pony, I assume?)...I would totally want a pony that came in colors like that!

I'm with others about too many pink ponies, and I don't really collect G3s either (although a few have snuck into my possession here and there; I don't seek them out though).

G2 in general.

Sweetberry

Romance.

Cookery.

Flower Ponies.

Most of those except Schooltime & Playschool Babies get overlooked I think.

Ones I've been guilty of overlooking are Soft Sleepy Newborns. Not any more

I never hear anything about the Soft Sleepy Newborns...I had the purplish one with fuchsia hair, I don't remember her name. I wonder if she still lives in my parents' basement...I hope so!
Sweet Dreams. Pink dreams (like the Flutter) is the pink one  while the white one I've yet to Customise as a normal-sized Newborn is Hushabye.

Oh I'd love to see your newborn-sized customs of them sometime! I always loved this set and I hardly see anything about them.

Pony Corral / Re: Show me your childhood collection photos!!!

I found a pic from when I was 8 or 9 playing in front of my ponies, I'm wearing this totally 80's tunic-shirt thing and those hideous coke-bottle glasses with the hot pink 80's frames that I was unfortunate enough to wear prior to getting contacts...I'd love to post it but I'm too technologically challenged to figure out how to operate a 3rd-party photo hosting site, so I'll just have to live vicariously through all of your childhood photos, I guess! I love seeing all of these!

I have her. I'm not sure where she came from, but she was in with all my childhood ponies kind of randomly. She must have belonged to my very youngest sister, who must have acquired her after I was out of the house. I don't really like her because she is so much bigger than my other g1 ponies and the inconsistency bugs my sense of symmetry. Also, she is missing the plastic saddle piece. Her hair is still pink though, and I'll probably try to rehome her soon...just not sure I'd get any takers on her without the saddle.

We're in the midst of a basement remodel right now, and eventually I'd like to set up space for them in an office/hobby room if we can spare the space, but right now they live in my bathroom linen closet. It's really big and deep, and I have the Lullaby Nursery set up in there with a scene set up in and around it. I only have about 40 ponies here at my house currently; I had taken a bunch over to my mom's house along with Paradise Estate, Baby Bonnet dance school, and my other nursery to store them safely during our remodel and now they are stuck there during our COVID isolation for a while...I miss them :wail:

My husband started expressing some mild irritation at not being able to access some things in the linen closet due to ponies taking over, so I had to compress them all into one half of a shelf, although as I have been giving them spa days, they are slowly infiltrating the next shelf up as I set them apart from the others to dry...

Pony Corral / Re: Which ponies do you think could be family?

I'll probably remember more throughout the day and come back to update, but off the top of my head, Tiddlywinks had the same color scheme as Lickety Split, so she and Baby Lickety Split were sisters in a family with Lickety Split and Posey as their parents. Yes, our Posey was a guy! We re-gendered several of our ponies because this was before male ponies were available, and we needed boy ponies for some of our storylines. Our version of Posey was probably the most charismatic pony in our herd!

I had Baby Dangles, but she seemed kind of random and didn't fit in anywhere (maybe because all our other newborns were twins and she was a random single), so we gave her to the white and blue Fifi that came with the Perm Shoppe since she was the same color. She had curly hair, so we pretended that Fifi had permed her child's hair and kept her in a pen at the Shoppe to try to sell perms. I think there were also some child-labor themes along that line of play too, because I remember some of the other baby ponies sneaking into the Perm Shoppe to free her from her pen.   :brow:

Of course anytime we had duplicates of any pony, they were siblings or family.

I enjoyed your story, thanks for sharing it! I love Princess Pristina's colors as well. I just got a Majesty for the first time, myself...can't wait till she arrives! Enjoy your new additions  :)

Pony Corral / Re: question about Silver Spoon g4
« on: April 03, 2020, 10:13:20 PM »
I have seen a couple Silver Spoons on Ebay that looked mismatched like that recently...I would guess that it's a consistent factory error or she is just prone to it for some reason  :(
