Personally, I can't seem to escape Blossom!

A dingy old SS Gusty is the only pony who made it into my backpack for going away for a month, and I was actually just trying to balance her on my head a moment ago

A g3 core 7 Scootaloo... the one with the cowboy hat! I remember she was the last new-from-store pony i picked out as a kid (I think I was about 12?) because she sat for months with that awful g3 box hair because I was like "it's a waste to get out supplies just to give one pony a spa day! I'll wait until I have a couple more" and then... more just never came because I didn't see the point in buying endless doubles :P

I haven't had any issues with g4s, but I've had a couple g1s' and g3s' hair completely crumble out! And they all had varying shades of pink hair except for the one g3 who was rainbow haired and all of mane the colours (pink/yellow/orange) rotted right out. It'd be nice to know if the pink dye has anything to do with it? It sure seems like it.

I wonder if white vinegar would help at all.

I don't like to use alot of strong chemicals just beacuse over time I wonder how they will change the plastic.

White vinegar is great for moldy ponies! It kills it off so it won't grow back and it's mild enough that it won't harm them at all. Just fill up the inside of the pony and let it sit for an hour or so, then scrub! ^.^

I usually watch the performances because it's a low effort way to find a few new songs I like, but everything this year seems so generic. Snore! :P Austria's entry is nice though.

Pony Corral / Re: Pony retail prices vs. quality?

Are G2s harder plastic or the same stuff? I sometimes notice pictures of some of them with holes or dark spots in their nose. What's that?

It's hard to tell because G2s are much smaller so you can't squeeze and squish them like the bigger gens. I do want to say they're harder plastic though?

Some G2s have magnets in their noses to activate playsets or accessories, so the dark spots and holes are probably from that?

A bag of 40+ moldy/smoozy ponies for free, that were all completely cleanable.

Pony Corral / Pony retail prices vs. quality?
« on: May 10, 2016, 02:05:30 AM »
I've been thinking recently and wanted to share some observations I've made about pony quality vs their retail price throughout the generations! The prices are in Canadian dollars (ponies here when I was a child were $7 retail!), but I think the intention will still get across different currencies. :)

G1s seem to have held out quite well and are generally quite restoreable, but are definitely aging and deteriorating after 30+ years. They also seem to have generation specific problems (I've personally never seen smooze on g2 ponies and onward?).

G2s are noticeably smaller but still fit into the realm of "affordable toy" (under $10) with their adjusted retail value. I notice far less age related deterioration issues with G2s, such as discolouration, stickiness, cancer spots, etc. The biggest quality complaint about G2s seems to just be the eye crystals falling out!

G3s are generally compared to G1 in terms of variety and overall quality when new, but are experiencing aging issues on par with G1s after only a decade, such as age spots, regrind, and brittleness.

3.5s may be widely regarded as ugly and having a poor selection, but they're made incredibly solidly and have a metric ton of decent quality hair rooted in them, and are pretty difficult to damage in any meaningful way. (I swear, these things don't stain up or frizz. Everything slides right off them, even the super nasty used baby toy ones from thrift shops I've come by have cleaned up to practically mint!)

G4 quality is... extremely disappointing. They're coming out of their packages with horrible head/body mismatches and frizzy, dry hair. They're brittle to the point of heads breaking off. The styling size ponies also have body issues but to a lesser extent, likely because their size allows for better consistency in production, but they still cost more than their closest size match (G1) did, retail value.

Conclusion?
I think G2s and 3.5s were the fairest prices for their quality, and Hasbro is majorly ripping us off these days.

Yes they are. Shipping without tracking starts at $10. It depends on where you are.

PMing you!

It's mislabelled as a small which I'm definitely not so I almost didn't buy it! But it ended up fitting just fine

Are those g1 baits $5 for all 3? I think I'm interested, do you happen to know how much shipping would be for them to Canada?

Back in the summer of 2003 my parents took me to Toys R Us to pick out a reward for getting a good report card at the end of grade 2, and the brand new g3s really caught my eye. There was some sort of sale like "buy a celebration playset, get a single pony half off", so my parents said I could go ahead and pick out four ponies!!  :drunk: So I brought this crew home!

Razzaroo was the one that really captured me though so I technically consider her "first".

My mum really wanted me to get Sparkleworks ("get the orange one!!") so she ended up bringing me back a week or so later to pick out another.  :P
