Last time a G3 pony was posted on EQD sethisto called it a hippopotamus pony (oh, such nice love and tolerance : P).
And this is different from the people on the arena calling G4’s “mouse ponies” how?
Haven't heard that one in a while time though. However, whenever an older gen is the subject of a post on EQD, snarky comments follow. Same thing on youtube, where most videos of older gens have the same snarky comments posted on them. It's hard not to see. I have even seen people say that G4 toys look too much like G3 toys (i think it's the brushable manes). While i think most collectors like G4 and while blatant gen bashing isn't allowed here either.

I really like zecora and the blue unicorn who is apparently trixie?
I think the white colour is an improvement, but I don't like the massive talking flappy fabric-wing Celestia, will wait for castle friends sized release.
Mixed feelings.
I do want to get them. White Celestia looks great.
But i do hope Hasbro will not start listening too much too bronies. If that happends there will be no more brushable manes and no more characters that have not appeared in the show. While i love the show, i feel character design is lacking. Simple and often copy pasted cutie marks, no more multicolored manes and male ponies with limited color options are not something i look forward to.
Also makes me sad that Hasbro seems to have forgotten about older fans. And because most bronies seem to dislike older generations..i wonder if that means we won't be seeing much based on older generations again.
I think Hasbro ARE catering to older fans as opposed to the...scary g3.5 thing we had before g4!  The toys aren't quite as good as g1 and g3 but...there has been an improvement since g3.5 and Ihope it keeps going that way. They keep putting stuff into the show based on older generations (applejack, twilight, recently cherries jubilee) also everything we saw in G1 was new and original...so I don't mind if newer generations do a lot of new and original ponies
I wasn't really talking about older ponies in the show (i'm also not convinced Cherries Jubilee is supposed to be based on the G1 version) but rather about things like the G3 art ponies or G1 re-releases and merchandise like T-shirts. Making me fear the faith of art ponies in general. Probably in the minority here, but I'd love to see more of the non-brushable ponies like in the 5-figure gift set. The brushables are cute, but I'd love to have the option of the molded figures- the likenesses are so much better!

I've been wanting this for a little while as well. They need to make the rest of the mane 6, at least. It just doesn't seem fair to only make half of them that way.
The problem with that is the fact the set didn't really do that well. Bronies and collectors might pick them up but noone is sure if it's worth producing those toys just for them/us. I kinda feel the blindbags replaced them. I can't say i care that much for fully plastic ponies but i would like Rarity. As long as full plastic ponies don't replace the brushable ones. That would be terrible and boring. I also wonder if ponies like that would be something they produce for the comicon exclusive.

I mostly hope for interesting (fully) new characters and new poses.
And for some more original cutie marks. Like G3 ponies who used to have glitter, jewel, "3d", cascade, patterned and scented cutie marks. I want something like that again.
Babies/fillies with cutie marks would be nice too.

I definately wanna see more FIM side characters! I know they don't have as many colors in their manes, but they look a lot more distinct that the ponies Hasbro comes up with. To me Dewdrop Drizzle and the others are just pretty forgettable.

I'd love more blue/green and more earth ponies. As much as I love unicorns and Pegasus if there were less of them they would become more special.
I'd rather see few earth ponies. Let's make THEM special! If they came up with an earth pony with great colors, I'd get it. But other than Applejack, I haven't seen them produce an earth pony I liked.
But if the background ponies would be turned into toys, how would they be more "distinct"? Their toys would just be the same, only with less colors (and often less complex/repetitive cutie marks.).

It seems like they wanted to give every specie a special kind of introduction/theme.
The pegasus ponies had the whole butterfly Island theme going on with several animated shorts. The breezies had the whole first year of "Crystal princess" while the unicorns appeared the second year.
Each having a movie devoted to them.
I think they wanted to make every specie kind of special..but in the end the whole thing just went too slow. So by the time the unicorns were introduced there was hardly any time left before they suddenly came up with the Core 7 idea.

I hope for fully new characters. Ponies comparable to Dewdrop Dazzle.
I actually hope we won't see too many background ponies from the show, as most of those lack multicolored manes. Another thing i hope for is that these new ponies might get some new poses.
It's been almost two years or so and we still only have two poses. With the second pose not being that much different from the first.

There's a blog I found earlier that had photos and more details about the new G4 toys shown at the New York toy fair this year (which I had totally forgotten about...I don't know if there was a thread about it on the Arena, or whether it took place during the change over?) Anyways, I was just commenting to Mum about it earlier, and it really does seem they plan to just release the same ponies again and again. The main six characters are going to be released AGAIN, this time with a "wedding themed accessory" (looked like a plastic wedding invite), then possibly AGAIN as bridesmaids (couldn't really work it out from the description on the blog). The flower girls were Apple Bloom, Scootaloo and Sweetie-Belle again. I can't remember the link but if you Google for "New York Toy Fair My Little Pony" in the past week, you'll probably find it. 
They did say there would be "18 ponies" in the singles set with wedding themed accessories. Perhaps they'll re-release the main six three times?!

The real reason is plot convenience. Making Pound Cake able to fly means more trouble for Pinkie Pie.
Actually, that's the reason these two were a unicorn and a pegasus in the first place. The writers were able to do a lot more fun things with those than with just two earth ponies.
