Pony Corral / Re: The Mimic Phenomenon
« on: April 01, 2021, 02:07:55 PM »
I think I'm going to try to make one...I have an HQG1C blank in her pose laying around, and if I can get the green dye right I'm going to give it a go. While I'm still hoping to randomly find her in the wild for like, $1(keep dreaming, right?!), I'm not paying $400 for her on Ebay.

Can't wait to see

I'll post her for sure! I'm just really leery about getting the color right...usually when dyeing a pony I have another pony to compare it to so I know I get it right...wish I had a local friend I could borrow a Mimic from for a day! And Rit dye doesn't have a real great shade of green in their Dyemore arsenal...

There's an HQG1C Mimic custom on Instagram! Maybe you could ask them what combo they used for her?

I had this set as a child! I remember going to walmart to pick out a toy and heading straight for this. Such a random choice, I still wish I'd gotten a few ponies instead of the playset (for which I only had two ponies including RnR lol) but I did love Round N Round so much, she had the best hair. And that's still one of my favorite poses!

Thank you so much! I snagged Heartthrob, Posey, Lickety Split, and Cherries Jubilee about an hour ago. I just received a notification telling me my order was shipped! O_O Wow!
Yay! I'm so glad you managed to get them! I was worried that scalpers would get ahold of their stock before they sold out- hopefully actual collectors get the most of their stock this time (they did order double the amount of stock for this restock, hopefully more will be on the way after this too)

Just wanted to let you guys know that this toy shop has the Posey wave in stock (sans Tootsie for some reason) for somewhat-normal prices! They also have the last wave of Unicorns and Pegasus ponies if you missed them before.

They were so kind on Instagram when I asked if they were restocking (I got most of the ones they had before but I missed CB, Lickety-Split and Heart Throb so I was waiting lol) and they let me know that they'd gotten their new shipment today!

They seem to be run by a small group and have a very small social media presence, and they're also one of the only US retailers with this wave of Earth Ponies so I thought I'd shout them out!

Unless they have mold or anything that requires deep deep cleaning, you can probably get away with a few wet cotton balls or q-tips to wipe down their faces and bodies- for any dust on the hair, you could brush down their hair with a wet (clean ofc) toothbrush rather than taking down their hair and scrubbing it with shampoo and conditioner- this is probably the best choice for WW Jade and the Boyz, since Jade has kanekalon hair which is notoriously difficult to work with and afaik the Boyz flocking is very sensitive to moisture and prone to peeling off.

For the plastic accessories and feet, I would just toss them in a bowl of lukewarm water and liquid dish soap, perhaps scrub them a bit and then leave them to air dry.

If the clothes are super dirty, you can also scrub them down with dish soap, rinse them off and leave them to dry- the only exception being the pleather clothing pieces because they are very fragile and prone to peeling- you'll want to wipe those down with a dry or slightly damp cloth, and leave them to air dry. Anything else might speed up the peeling.

Thank you so much! Would woolite delicate also work for the non-pleather clothing?
I honestly have no idea! I imagine it should be fine, as long as there's no bleach in it!

I sure hope this line lasts at least another year :/ they're kind of a dream for me, as someone who loves G1 ponies but is a bit picky about mint-ness lol

Not a fan of how flat they are, they look like G2 got hit with a frying pan lol

Pony Corral / Re: Pony brand collabs- what do you desire?
« on: September 03, 2020, 06:29:12 AM »
Wishfully thinking, I think a Blythe collab with reproduction Takara ponies would be very smart- not just because it's very on-brand for how Blythe tends to be styled, but also because Blythe is another Hasbro property and they would mix nicely together!

They could include a special pony with the MLP-inspired Blythe doll, and a whole line of separate ponies on the side to go with it! The vintage Takara MLP packaging is very stylistically similar to Blythe's as well so they would pair nicely, perhaps with only a few minor tweaks to combine the brands.

Asian vintage-style vinyl art dolls are very big right now, and Takara ponies very much fit in that general aesthetic trend (along with Blythe)- seems like a no-brainer collaboration idea to me!

They would probably be a fair bit more expensive than BF Retro ponies, but I can't imagine anyone being too bothered if it meant high quality Takara reproductions in vintage packaging lol.

Pony Corral / Re: Ultimate Equestria Set- Hair Quality?
« on: August 30, 2020, 10:03:19 AM »
Thanks guys! I actually do have that set on the way to me right now, imo they're the best set of (brushable at least) Mane 6 ponies out there- especially considering the eyes/sculpt and the accurate hair and good hair quality- and I knew I wanted them when they came out, but it took me forever to actually grab them haha! The reason I actually want the Ultimate Equestria set is because the princesses+ Spike will pair nicely with the Magic of Everypony set, to give me a complete/perfect FIM set of the major characters lol!

I will definitely still get the Ultimate Equestria set eventually, but I'm holding off for a while because I know it's a pretty high price tag just to get 3 ponies out of it (which I will then need to buy hair for and reroot)

I just disscovered this pony, coincidentally! I'm newer to collecting G1 and I saw her online and knew she had to be my first, now I have one on the way to me lol. I just love her pose and the color scheme, and all the little butterflies!

I thought you were discussing the set with Minty, and I was going to come in screech "Horrible! Disgusting horrible hair! I had to arm myself with body lotion and a hair straightener to tame it!" and then post pictures of my Minty and princesses that I had tamed but the fashion style set...I've not encountered.
My experience with the fashion styles...they're ok? I don't have any from this set, I think (they're starting to creep into thrift stores but my thrifted Fluttershy has the cutie mark on the wrong side to be from this set). I'm not very familiar with Poly hair and I know the quality can wildly differ, like the TrU set with Muffins has very soft hair compared to the set with Minty. If there is super soft Poly, then I think that's what they've been using.
Wish I had this set to give you more input, I think I'm one of a few who still actively collect the G4 ponies. :P This set just ended up a bit expensive for me.
If there is a way to tell Poly from Nylon definitely, maybe I should test it out on the softest of the hair. I know the quality used to be consistently sucky but it's very coin-flip now. (G4.5 have lovely hair thus far though, love those cat guys).

Thanks! I decided to just put them on the backburner from now, as it seems they might have poly hair and...ew. I'm hoping I can find the princesses separately or something, because I only really wanted the set for the accurately-designed princesses. I can always reroot them, but paying 70$ for all those ponies just to reroot 3 and give the rest to my sister is...a bit much LOL

I admit I disappeared from ponies for a bit, but I suddenly got into both g3 and g4 again at the same time and now have like..20 ponies on the way to me from both generations lmao, luckily I prefer the FS-sized g4 ponies over the brushables so my list of wants is a bit smaller than if I mostly collected the 3'' brushables haha

I wouldn’t expect any g4 toy to have even halfway decent hair quality. There are a few- very scarce, though, that have pretty nice quality. Potion Nova being one of them. I suggest you try to look for video reviews with this set and see what others think of the hair quality, before buying it yourself.

Wait- Potion Nova looks to be g4.5? I'm talking about this set, which I'm pretty sure is g4 (though a different sculpt from the original g4 Fashion Style ponies)

I did look at a few reviews, but most people don't seem to distinguish between bad hair= the fiber itself is not good, or bad hair= it doesn't feel nice immediately after deboxing. I can usually tell what the type of hair is at a glance but I wasn't able to figure it out in any of the photos or videos I saw online, until about 4am when I found a deboxed Pinkie Pie with absolutely destroyed, frazzled hair so I'm assuming they do have the disgusting polypropylene hair that Hasbro has been using since like 2014 for MLP.
