Pony Corral / What Became of Kimono's Townhouse?
« on: February 09, 2024, 07:59:32 AM »
Hello!

It's been a really hot minute since I was last on here, but I figured this was the best place to come to with this question since I can't really find any answers on my own.

I recently started reading the "Kimono's Townhouse" comic series on LiveJournal. I did some clicking around and discovered there was actually a whole website for this comic way back in the day. It was literally just kimonostownhouse dot com. But I can only explore it using the Wayback Machine because apparently the website no longer exists.

The last snapshot I could find for it was from 2021 and apparently the site was still up and active.

The website/blog was super-detailed and fun to look through. The creator Dava Butler seemed to be a full-time pony hobbyist making customs and pony tutorials and other webcomic series with ponies.

The last Kimono's Townhouse page was made in 2014, now ten years ago.

The site seems to be gone.

Does anyone here know what became of the comic and of Dava? Is she just gone from the pony hobby scene entirely or is she still out there online somewhere doing different things now?

I'm just really curious cause I absolutely love this comic so far and it's making me want to make something like this myself in the future.

Hey there,

So I've been ripping google images apart for ages trying to find a picture of the MLP toy section from the early 2000s, during the G3 era. I simply cannot find anything. I'm convinced Google doesn't know MLP existed in stores before 2012 cause all the ones I can find are for G4.

I know this is a really odd and specific request, but I just wanted to see if anyone had anything. I know I've seen at least 1 picture of a MLP section on a toy aisle in Walmart before, but I can't find the picture anywhere now.

This will probably get buried and unanswered, but I thought I'd give it a shoot anyway. :help:

Wanted! / Looking for a G2 Eve in good/acceptable condition!
« on: November 30, 2022, 05:50:03 AM »
Hello!

Been a long time since I've posted here, but I need help finding a pony!

I mainly collect G3s and the occasional G1, but the G2 pony "Eve" is the one I am really in search of right now.

I'm in the US so I'm assuming she's not going to be as easy to obtain cause G2s are more commonly found in the EU, but I must find her.

I'm looking for one in good/acceptable condition. Preferably without badly faded/cut hair, no big permanent scribbles or dark marks (some dirt is okay, I don't mind giving ponies a spa day!), and also no yellowing (but I don't mind some yellowing as I can most likely treat it with sunfading or a different method).

I could only find two listings online for this pony, one was on eBay for $40 from France and in bad condition, and the other was sold out on Etsy.

Please help me find my Holy Grail! Thanks for reading!  :work:

Pony Corral / World's Biggest Tea Party Aftermath?
« on: January 21, 2022, 07:01:27 PM »
Hi friends!

So I was watching the World's Biggest Tea Party this evening on YouTube. I've always loved this show, I went to see it as a little girl in 2007 and it definitely created a core memory in my mind lol. People can have their own opinions about the production quality, sets, songs, costume designs, they're creepy, they're cool, stupid, cute, whatever. I loved it and it's super nostalgic to me.

Anyway, it dawned on me that I have no idea what happened to the pony puppets after the show closed in 2008. I tried looking on the MLP Wiki and didn't really find anything besides a few backstage pics. Were the costumes just shoved into a Hasbro warehouse somewhere or were they dismantled and scattered, or did they get sold/auctioned off to collectors? I'm a bit of a theatre geek so this sort of stuff intrigues me. Same with the sets, did they just get put away somewhere and forgotten or were they reused or sold or something?

Just really curious! Would love to get some info on it if anyone knows anything.

Pony Corral / Info about G3 Birthflower Ponies
« on: January 08, 2022, 08:09:48 AM »
Hey pony friends,

Sorry it's been a hot minute since I was active here, but I need some help trying to figure out the G3 birthflower ponies.

I'm just 3 ponies away from completing the G3 birthstone pony collection (Just need March Madness, June Blossom, and November Nights now) and I want to try and collect the 12 birthflower ponies next.

However, I have come to discover that every listing I have found of a G3 birthflower pony has been ludicrously expensive. Like, $350 for an MIB December Poinsettia and $140 non-MIB February Violet. Sometimes I'll find listings for non-MIB ones that are still over $50 and that still feels too steep to me.

I know they are considered HTF and were exclusive to Toys-R-Us in 2006 but weren't the birthstone ponies also sold for one year as Toys-R-Us exclusives in 2005? Yet the birthstone ponies are considered much easier to obtain and are generally much more reasonably priced as MIBs and non-MIBs.

Am I missing some info here? Was there only a few hundred made of each pony? Were the birthflower ponies only available for a few months in 2006 or are people just being ridiculous with their pricing online?

I really want to own the birthflower set one day but I just can't see that happening if sellers keep pricing them so darn high. I don't have that much disposable income available.  :cloud:

Just trying to make sense of the situation and learn something.

Edit: Wow, thank you to everyone for the replies! This has been a very interesting and informative discussion. I really had no idea the birthflower ponies were so massively popular amongst collectors even in 2006. It makes a lot of sense now. Still sad that they're so hard to find and expensive these days, but I'm still hoping to have them all someday.

Thanks again!

Pony Corral / Restoring scents on scented ponies?
« on: September 03, 2021, 06:23:34 AM »
Hey there!

Newbie to MLP Arena here, but I've been collecting since ~2005.

So this past year I've collected quite a few G3s that used to be scented, but due to age and years of playtime from the previous owners, the ponies have lost their scents.

The scented ponies I've got so far are;

Lavender Lake
Citrus Sweetheart (very very very faint smell of oranges)
Apple Spice
Pretty Pop
Party Cake
Chocolate Chipper
Coconut Grove (still faintly smells of coconut, but needs restoring)
Tropical Surprise (2005 version)

All except two of those ponies have no smell at all other than the normal sweet G3 plastic smell. I've thought about finding some good-quality sample bottles of essential oils that would match their original gimmick scent and just put a little drop or two on their cutie marks, and then leave them sealed in a plastic bag for a few days.

My concern is that I don't know if the oils would stain the ponies or not. I've used tea tree oil on a few of them to rub out stubborn pen marks and such and it has worked very well for me and hasn't left any stains on the ponies.

So I guess I'm just looking for some tips? Advice? Do any of y'all have any ideas as to what would be the best way of doing this? Or would I just be better off leaving them as they are?

Thanks for reading. :art:

Edit: Wow! Thank you all for the helpful tips and advice! I will be giving some of them a try. I've stared by trying the sealed plastic bag on two of my ponies to see if that brings out any of their original scent. Also the comment by Artemesia's Garden about the different types of oils was very informative! Thank you for that! Y'all are awesome! I will make an update post in a few weeks to see if I have any luck.

Introductions / Hallo there!
« on: September 02, 2021, 09:57:55 AM »
Hello!

I go by Rain and I'm just another 21 year-old starving artist who loves ponies. I'm currently in my 3rd year of college and I'm studying to be come a graphic designer, but I really have no idea what I wanna do with my life lol. I currently work as an accountant's assistant, but it doesn't pay much at all, nor is it my dream job. I'm hoping to move on from it in the next 2 years or so.

I've been collecting ponies since I was 5 years old, so I've been collecting since about 2004-2005. My favorite generation is (surprise!) G3! I love G3 very much as it was a HUGE part of my childhood. I collected as many ponies as I could when I was a child, but my collecting came to an abrupt halt when the generation changed to G3.5 and then to G4 in 2010.

The generation change was a major punch in the gut to me at the time. I thought the new generations were very ugly and unfamiliar. I just wanted my pretty G3s back! So I stopped collecting in 2010 and completely lost all interest in MLP and the new generations for nearly 10 years until I finally started watching a few random G4 episodes in 2018-ish. I was 18 then and had matured enough to realize that G4 wasn't all THAT bad. I grew to really like G4, but I still firmly believe most of the toys are rather ugly and poorly designed.  ^^; I mostly like it just for the show and the lore. (Princess Luna is my most favorite tho, I absolutely love her).

I finally resumed pony collecting in 2018 once I finally realized that I make my own money now and can spend it on ponies from eBay. My G3 collection is now up to 173 with Snow 'El II being my latest "Holy Grail" dream pony.

I also love G1, but I'm not quite as familiar with it like I am with G3. I have two sweet little G1s in my collection and they're Moonstone and Sundance. My wishlist of G1s is very long, but finding them for reasonable prices has proven to be very difficult. I grew up watching a lot of MLP videos/movie clips on 2007-2009 YouTube, including the old My Little Pony Tales show. I'm pretty sure there were only 2 full episodes available on there at the time, but I absolutely loved them and would watch them over and over again.

I don't have any G2s in my collection yet, except for two little McDonalds toy versions of Ivy and Lightheart and the old G2 CD-ROM computer game installed onto my laptop (found it on oldgamesdownload.com). I personally like the way G2s look, but they're very hard to find these days. Hoping to add some to my collection soon.

As for G4s, I have small brushables of Fluttershy and Applejack (the two halves of my personality), a Hot Topic vinyl Princess Luna, a brushable light-up Rarity, the Guardians of Harmony figurine of Nightmare Moon (my most favorite G4 villain), and a Build-A-Bear Princess Luna. I'm not really looking to collect G4s, but I really do want to find more Lunas.

I'm looking forward to the new G5 movie coming out in a few weeks. I'm very curious as to where MLP will go with this new generation. I've already got the styling Izzy Moonbow and a small Sunny Starscout plushie.

Anyway, I think that's about it! I have a pony account on Instagram (@rains_pony_box) where I post pictures of my collection and share my pony art. You can also find me on DeviantArt under the name rainblueart for more pony and non-pony art.

I hope to make some new friends here on the MLP Arena as I hear it's a pretty cool place!

Thanks for reading!  :hope:
