AKA Pantene Pony, AKA Neighlor Swifthooves, AKA “maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s a multiply mask”, now with a Christmassy update!  Anyone who has already requested can ask for their pony with the wreath, it’s easy to add.

Please note; pegs aren’t showing their wings in this format!

The ribbon colour and lights are customisable but the default is the red and gold as modelled on my persona, please specify which colours you’d like if not the default, or you can request that I pick the colours that suit your pony, like I did with Majesty here:

ETA LE RULES cause my stream-of-consciousness nonsense didn’t include any:

1) as these don’t require major lineart changes I’m happy to do more than one each,I can also make pairs:
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

ETA: by more than one I mean one OR TWO, as in a pair, not three or four or a whole herd.  I didn’t word that very clearly!
2) personas welcome!
3) the Pixietail is completely optional, please state whether or not you want one and/or the magic fringe.

I’m upping my Procreate game, learning about masks and layers and whatnot, and drew up a Lady Lovely Locks pony to experiment with.  Offering it as an adoptable for the practice and because it’s a bit quiet in here innit?  Adoptables will be posted both full-size and with the code to easily shrinky-shronk them down to sig size.

For the youngsters: Lady Lovely Locks was a princess with a magical colourful fringe that, when shaken, summoned sentient hair accessories called Pixietails, because if there was one thing that the 80s didn’t care about even a little bit it was making sense.  The Pixietails were mutant hamsters/rabbits/birds with long, brushable hair, not to be confused with Fairy Tails which were exclusively birds with long, brushable hair, not to be confused with Keypers which were multiple animals - including a bird and a horse - with long, brushable hair, not to be confused with Fashion Star Fillies which were exclusively horses with long brushable hair, not to be confused with My Little Ponies which were ponies with long brushable hair… I mean if you’ve ever wondered why so many Millennial women have vague but persistent insecurities about their hair you can consider that mystery solved.

So you can have the full LLL makeover with magic fringe and Pixietail, or just a Pixietail…

…but I’m assuming you’ll prefer the non-crossover version; earth, unicorn, pegasus or alicorn, twinkle eyes are available:

The Lady Lovely Locks, Fizzy, Luna and Trickles are all free to grab if you want them, the peg is my persona.

Pony Corral / Sunfading Mimic, do I dare?
« on: April 05, 2021, 11:04:49 AM »
After much internal debate I’ve decided that the time is right to sell off the bulk of my collection.  Well, much internal debate plus the events of the past year!  So I’m prepping to polish up the ponies who will be hopefully be finding lovely new homes.  Due to the recent ‘Mimic phenomenon’ on eBay, my Mimic is first in line!

She’s generally in good condition, but she has some ink marks in her left ear and left side that are letting her down a bit.  I’ve read that Mimic is firmly on the ‘do not sunfade’ list, but I was wondering if anyone has attempted it and what the results were?  Any advice is both welcome and appreciated.

Here’s what we’re working with, her ear:

Not terrible, but visible when on display.

The colours look a bit weird here as I had to fiddle with my camera settings to get the marks to show up!  Her side:
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The marks are very faint, and they’re covered by her hair (when it’s properly styled, which it currently isn’t):

Her display side is, thankfully, pen-free:

So, to sunfade or not to sunfade?

Arts & Crafts Corral / Self-Isolation Solidarity Colouring Pages
« on: March 31, 2020, 06:28:27 AM »
These self-isolating ponies are doing their best in a difficult time. They’re keeping up with the news while keeping a level head. They’re using technology to hang out with their friends remotely. They’re staying in touch with older friends and relatives who don’t use social media by email or phone. They’re catching up on their reading, learning new things and are swiftly becoming self-care experts. Above all, they’re WASHING THEIR HOOVES!!

I’m running this as an adoptable, but I’ve also drawn up some A4 versions of the lineart that can be printed off and coloured in.  Alicorn, unicorn, peg and earth, with twinkle eye versions.  The Arena won’t let me post the full A4 versions here (probably sensible!) but each image is a link to the A4 version.

These should be good to just print right off at the right size (if you save from the linked A4 version!), if there are any problems let me know, and if you or a junior member of your household colour one of these then I would absolutely love to see them!  Please post a pic

Adoptables / Self-Isolation Solidarity Adopts [CLOSED + pickups]

Because we’re all in this together  :)

I’ll be posting these in their larger size and in sig size, I’m also going to be putting up A4 sized lineart so people can print them off and colour them in  ;) you can have an alicorn:

An earthie:

A unicorn:

Or of course, a pegasus:

Let me know which of the objects of constructive self-isolation you’d like and the colours.  The only one that’s non-negotiable is the blankie as that’s part of the lineart.  Also let me know what colour floor and background you’d like.

I’m not limiting the numbers of requests I’m taking and I’ll only close this thread if I fall significantly behind.  Request away  :)

Sigs & Site Support / Never mind, I think I’ve got the hang of this!
« on: March 28, 2020, 08:29:48 AM »
I struggle to find the words to express just how much I loathe Flickr, I swear I’ve never managed to coax it into working for me.

So, I’ve drawn up some self-isolation solidarity adopts.  I really want to upload them with transparent backgrounds, but it thus far ain’t happening.  If some kind individual/s could lend a hoof?

Pony Corral / Best Identification Website?
« on: September 12, 2017, 10:15:34 AM »
I've been inactive in the community for a while, I'm about to sell of the va-ha-haaaaast majority of my collection and imagine my distress upon discovering that Dream Valley is no more!  What?!  When did this happen?!

So I'm looking for a decent identification website and suggestions would be very welcome.

Seriously though, Dream Valley

Arts & Crafts Corral / Pony jewellery - advice/opinions - pic heavy!
« on: November 04, 2015, 12:55:15 AM »
Hi pony peoples, long time no see!  I'm currently ill and very tired, this might be a bit disjointed and scrambled so apologies in advance  -_-

I'm looking for some feedback/advice.  Feedback on some pony jewellery I've made and advice on how to go about selling it; I've never sold crafty stuff before and I'm not sure where to start!  I have some specific questions, but first there's splashy pictures and some exposition.

I'm making jewellery based on the wings of the G1 and G4 pegasi.  At the moment I have two styles of G1 adult wings, G1 baby wings, G1 newborn wings and G4 adult wings, so five styles altogether.

The style 1 G1 adult size wings, here shown as two pins (they look great on either side of a shirt or coat collar):

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Style 1 G1 adult wings as a pendant on the left, and on the right is the G4 wings:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

G4 adult wings as a pendant and the back of the pendant, all the pendants have silver plated findings sealed onto the wings with more resin, so they're very sturdy:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And some more G4 wings, the ones on the left look a little wonky as I was looking for an angle that shows off the gold sparkles in the clear blue resin:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Semi-transparent shimmery G4 wings filled with 'bubbles' and the G1 newborn wings inset with silver stars (that you can't really see in this pic, darn) made into dangly earrings:

G1 newborn pendants:

A G1 baby pendant and a detail shot of a glittery G1 newborn pendant:

G1 two-tone baby pendant:

Style 2 G1 adult wings with butterfly embeds:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And finally a couple more style 2 G1 pendants:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

These were all actually made four years ago and they look as good now as then, they're pretty solid.  Since then my resin casting skills have improved and when/if I start making these again I'd be able to achieve a lot more different effects and colours.  I also would like to make miniaturised versions of the wings to make earring studs out of.

I've worn versions of these wing pendants out and about and received lots of compliments on how cute they are, all from people who had no idea that they were My Little Pony wings.

That's probably enough exposition now!  On to questions:

What would be the best platform to sell these?  The pony boards/Etsy/other?

I have sterling silver chains that the pendants look great on, but this obviously pushes the price up.  They can also be worn with an existing necklace, but this doesn't look quite as nice as a fitted chain.  Should I offer them with chains/without or have a cheaper option such as cord?

How much of a pain is it to offer custom pieces?  I can make pretty much any colour, with or without inserts, matte or glossy etc.  Are commissions more of a hassle than they're worth?

And finally, any ideas on how to price these would be very, VERY appreciated!

Any and all questions and feedback welcome

Backstory: I made some jewellery based on MLP wings (two designs of adult G1, two designs of baby G1 and one G4 design) a few years ago, intending to sell them.  Life happened... I mean HAPPENED... and everything I made got packed away until I had time to take more photos and write listings.  Life didn't stop happening (probably a good thing, considering the alternative) and I completely forgot about my treasure trove of pony jewels.

Now: the man and I moved two months ago and while I was packing my long-neglected craft stuff I found the trove, and I a) couldn't believe that I'd forgotten making them, b) was like "wow, these are really nice!" and c) resolved to start selling as soon as we were settled in the new house.

We are now settled in the new house so... time to stop procrastinating!

OK, first some pictures, and then some blurb.  Sorry for the terrible quality of some of these, since they were taken I've acquired a tabletop studio with professional lighting, the next pics will be splendid:

So far I've made pendants, pins/brooches and dangly earrings, I plan on making minature versions to make stud earrings with.  I'm also going to be offering phone charms, rings (eventually) and I'll be selling some with wire anchors for making customs with.

I can make these in a limited-ish number of transparent colours, a much wider range of opaque, pearlescent colours, glittery finishes, with 'inserts' (eg the butterfly and star wings above) or with more than one colour (eg the G1 wings above with pale blue tips on white).  I can make them glossy or matte.  I'll be taking custom orders.

I hope to have the shop up and running by 1st December, which brings me to the reason for this post; I can't think of a name for it!!!

Do I use 'SquarePeg' or not?  Do I make it pony-specific?  I'm planning on branching out into other retro/geek/cool stuff that cool people like us like areas, and also original designs so that probably wouldn't be a good idea.  I love the word 'esoterica', meaning 'things understood by or meant for a select few', which I feel perfectly describes what the shop would offer (to anyone not very familiar with the design of MLP the jewellery would simply look like stylised wings).

My boyfriend likes 'Square Peg's Souk'.  I like 'Emporium of Esoterica', but think it's too grand and doesn't really go with the jewellery.

Basically I'm stuck.  Halp?

P.S. I do have a mailing list, please post if you'd like to sign up  :lovey:

Customs / G4 Friendship is Magic Style Jewellery! (pic heavy)
« on: January 16, 2012, 04:56:19 AM »
A while ago I posted about some G1 MLP resin jewellery I'd made and mentioned that I was working on a G4 design, the design is finalised and I have some wings to show off!

These are all going to be for sale in my (currently empty) Etsy shop - 56 Magpies - hopefully very soon.  All I have to do is take decent pics of everything, get all the postage figures and source some really good quality silver chain for the necklaces.

If you'd like to sign up to my mailing list either post your username in bold here or PM me, you can choose to either receive PMs or proper emails, or both if you feel like it  :P  everyone who signs up BEFORE my shop is officially 'open' will be sent a 15% off voucher with the notification of the shop opening that can be used on anything in the shop OR a made-to-order piece.  Don't worry about being spammed, I doubt I'll be sending more than one update a month!

I must apologise for the quality of these pics, my camera's macro is SO RUBBISH and these are taken with the light source directly above them, so I couldn't take pics straight-on as I cast a massive shadow.  Thus they're all at an angle and this makes them look a bit warped  >_<  grrr, but I've got everything I need to make a DIY lightbox so the next pics'll be less wonky!

These wings are destined to be earrings; purple, clear with 'bubble' beads, blue shot with gold (not that you can see the gold in this pic, there's a better one further down), clear shimmery white, unpolished turquoise (when unpolished the resin is opaque, it'll become transparent - like the purple ones, transparent but with deep colour) and bronze.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Pics on top are three of the necklaces; clear, blue shot with gold and shimmery white with 'bubbles' (better pic of that one below), under that is a better shot of the clear with 'bubbles' earrings.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

A group shot of all five designs; two adult G1, one baby G1, one newborn G1 and the G4s, all in unpolished turquoise.  I've included an unpolished shot as I think you can see the detail better on it, the polished wings are so shiney it's hard to see what's what!
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

A better shot of the shimmery pendant with 'bubbles'.  The pic doesn't come close to capturing the extent of the shimmery shimmer-ness!
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

A shot of some of the clear wings with 'insets'; images set into the resin.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

On the left; a better shot of the blue resin shot with gold, from a distance it mainly looks blue (as in the shot taken of these wings at the top) but when you look closely and turn them about the teeny gold flecks catch the light and sparkle beautifully, I'm very proud of this resin blend and I'm definitely going to be making some more like this!  Under this is a shot of pearl pink, clear red and pearl white pendants.  On the right is a few close-ups.

A group shot of all five designs in clear resin with inset stars.  The stars are sparkly!

Hope you like them   any questions or feedback very welcome!

ETA: working with images on the new board is a nightmare!
