Pony Brag Arena / First ponies since childhood!
« on: August 13, 2023, 03:03:24 AM »
I posted briefly about these in the Corral already (thank you everyone who responded to my question!), but I want to show off a bit too!

I've loved My Little Pony since I was a little kid, but between my childhood ponies being put in the loft where I can't find them again and my general money issues, I haven't been able to get my hands on more. Until this last week! My birthday was at the beginning of the month, and a friend gave me some money to spend, so it was finally time I splurged on a box of ponies.

I was able to find a box of seven ponies in reasonably good condition for a good price on eBay - and, to my surprise, the seller threw in an extra pony free of charge! Which made my day :)

All of them need a good wash as they all have marks of varying descriptions - the most concerning being the various pen marks, which I am currently unsure of how I intend to remove as soap and warm water certainly won't cut it. Some of them also rattle, and some of them are somewhat tacky to the touch in places. I have suspicions as to what the tackiness is, after having done extensive reading on pony restoration, but I'm going to wait until I've had the chance to scrub them down before making judgements like that.

I have a lot of pictures, so I'm linking them here in an Imgur gallery to avoid making too long of a post.
Apologies for the shoddy camerawork!

Pony Corral / Ponies rattle when shaken - should I be concerned?
« on: August 10, 2023, 12:30:27 PM »
Yesterday, after years of looking at listings from afar and lamenting my monetary struggles, I got my hands on my first new ponies since I was a child! It's very exciting to me, I might post about that in the brag forum later.

Most of them have pen marks, and one of them has a slight haircut, but they're in good condition overall as far as I can tell - my main concern is that some of them rattle when shaken. There is obviously something loose in there, and since as far as I can tell the heads have never come off of these ponies the only thing that should be in there is the tail washers.

Which leads me to my concern. How could the tail washers be rattling around loose like that? All of the ponies still have their tails, and have more than likely never been opened up. Additionally, I'm not seeing any signs of rust, so if the washers rusted and fell apart they did so without staining the tails in any way - which feels unlikely to me, especially on three different ponies in the same box. But what else could have happened? Is there something I am overlooking? Am I overthinking it, or should I be concerned?

Pony Corral / Decapitated Brush n Grow - help?
« on: April 12, 2019, 02:00:59 AM »
So I mentioned in my introductions post that all of my childhood ponies are in storage - there's one exception to that. I've got a BnG Ringlets that's been sitting on a shelf in my room for as long as I can remember. She was put aside because either me or my brother (can't remember) broke off her head and my dad never actually got around to fixing her. I think it's something in her mechanism broke off, because her head rattles when I shake it. The head sits on the body fine.

Aside from that glaring issue, she's also got some yellowish discolouration in some spots - mainly around the tail and the tips of her muzzle and ears. I think it's probably to do with her age or something, it definitely occurred naturally. They're very subtle and probably wouldn't ever be noticed unless you were looking for it, so if there's nothing much I can do about it I'm completely fine with that. It just bothers me a little knowing they're there. But if anyone has any idea if there's something I can do about either of these issues, I'd really appreciate some advice. Thanks in advance.

Here she is before...

Since taking these, I've also braided her tail and tied it with an old ribbon. I think she's cute, although I'm going to need to wash (and maybe curl) her hair in the future.

I think she might also be faded... one of the streaks in her hair definitely is. I'm okay with that and the slight frizziness too, she's been like that for as long as I can remember. I'm actually pretty impressed that she hasn't suffered more damage, really. I got her second hand, so I imagine some other kid probably spent time playing with her back in the 80s, and then both me and my brother definitely played with our ponies a lot as a kid. And yet - no markers, no haircuts, no damage at all aside from the aforementioned.

(I didn't think to take any pictures of her head mechanism earlier, unfortunately, and now my phone's dead with no charger. I'll see if I can get some pictures of that later.)

Introductions / Hey there!
« on: April 11, 2019, 04:24:44 PM »
Hello! My name is Effie. I'm on the younger side (seventeen), I live in the UK, and I like to draw. That's... basically all there is to say about me. I'm a very boring person.

I'm not a collector per-se, but I have a bunch of old ponies (G1 and G3) from my childhood that I'm looking to clean up and display. That's why I'm here, mostly. I figure that actual collectors know a lot more about pony restoration than anyone else, and this would be a great place for me to learn what I can do with the (very limited, the woes of being a broke teenager) resources I've got available. There's YouTube videos and all, but having multiple sources sounds and the ability to ask for specific advice is appealing to me. Plus, scrolling through here is pretty interesting on it's own.

They're currently still in a box in the loft, and I plan to get them down later this week. I haven't seen them since I was a kid. I don't know what kind of condition they're in, and considering they've been through more than one mouse infestation, have had other boxes piled on top of them, and have just generally been sitting around for the past six or seven years - I'm a little scared to find out.
