Pony Corral / Baby Lemondrop's hair
« on: January 18, 2021, 02:31:05 PM »
Curiosity compels me I'm afraid.

I know it is generally accepted that ponies are made in batches, some early, some late and I'm wondering if this (combined with age is the issue - I'm leaning more towards age).

I'll paraphrase this by saying my Baby Lemondrop is packed in a box so I can't easily get her out and take a photo, more's the pity.

So, hair. In pictures I've most often seen the stroller baby Lemondrop with either straight or loosely curled hair. Mine has hard curls and when I say hard, I mean crispy as though someone put too much hairspray on her. This is definitely not the case by the way. I know this baby's history and she was bought new from the Toymaster in Tavistock in 1994 (at the earliest) 1997 (at the latest) but I believe closer to 1994. I kid you not. But most importantly I never touched her curls, they bemused me and bewildered me as a small child whose ponies generally had straight hair and most certainly never looked like solidified in place.

Now obviously I don't know how the toy shop treated her in the possibly ten years she was resident (this shop was a positive treasure trove until the late 90's/early 00's if I'd had the money I could have bought the School of Dance and innumerable other things) but in all the pictures of her I've seen online I've never seen one with a perm job like it.

So, yes the question, to those who may remember theirs new: did yours also have crispy curls? Or is mine just an oddity who was stuck in a toy shop for ten years?

Pony Corral / Dutch fanclub gifts
« on: September 20, 2019, 03:34:51 PM »
I've just managed to buy a piece of my childhood. The Dutch backcard for the first tooth babies. Yay!

I still have the babies but I haven't seen the backcard since I was about 5. In fact if it wasn't for the fact that I vividly remember getting them coming with only their toothbrushes and on card and being rather narked when I saw them again a few months later boxed with tons of accessories I'd have thought I'd dreamt it up.

But, having a quick read of the back I noticed that one of the free gifts for fanclub members was Molly.

Does anyone know if this Molly was different to the regular one that came with Baby Sundance?

Pony Corral / Early g1 UK
« on: April 06, 2019, 09:56:02 AM »
Hi guys, I'm sure some of this may have been posted before but: looking through the pit that is youtube I found a video uploaded about two weeks ago and it would appear to be the very first UK advert.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75uz9xoRexM

It's interesting to note that there is no mention at all of any other ponies or playsets. Which would indicate that the Grooming Parlour came out later that year at the earliest These six were very much testing the waters of the UK market.

I also rather like the fact that it looks like Hasbro UK made the background from fuzzy felt mounted onto cardboard displays.  :P

Pony Corral / G4 ponies in plastic bag?
« on: March 10, 2018, 01:20:57 PM »
Think I can be honest here and say I know nothing about G4 so maybe this is normal.

I was in the Entertainer today doublechecking the pony section (I do this fairly frequently lately on the hunt for the retros) and they have G4 singles in plastic bags with MLP branded card on top. There was a Pinkie Pie, a purple pegaus and something else all being sold for £3 each.

I've seen them before but it was a lone Pinkie Pie, they seem to have restocked.

I assume these ponies are end of line clearance stock as my only comparison is to the random G1s I picked up back in the early 90s in a similar manner. Anyone got any idea or are we just proving again that Plymouth is a dumping ground for randomness?

Introductions / Hello one and all
« on: November 10, 2017, 11:14:23 AM »
Hello all, I'm aria_elwen, some of you might know me as a lurker from the UK who usually lurks over at the Trading Post but I finally decided to be sociable and join you all over here at the Arena.  ^.^

As a rule I'm a collector of G1 and have been collecting them since the very late 80's/very early 90's and so my collection is mostly a UK centric collection with me attempting to finish collecting all the ponies I remember seeing in the shops right at the end of the line. There was one shop that even sold all different European import ponies and end of line stock from the US and so I have packaging in my attic from all over Europe and US packaging with really cool ponies on that were never (as a rule) sold in this country. :(

I do have a number of G2 and G3 ponies although I don't collect them as a rule I have ended up with a number of them due to buying lots off ebay and I never have the heart to sell them on. Once a pony has entered my house they never leave...

Anyway, thank  you for having me and I'll try not to lurk too much in corners. ;)
