Off Topic / I have a Let's Play channel!
« on: January 03, 2016, 11:56:03 AM »
I dunno, I'm mostly doing it for myself but I thought maybe some of you would like to watch.  I play mostly horror, but I just started Ori and the Blind forest. Basically if you search Karalynn Rowley on youtube, anything game related is likely me XD I've played Layers of fear, RWBY, Uncanny Valley, and a few other games so far. I also really love suggestions for good computer games! I can't play console because the heaviness of controllers hurts my hands too much.

Off Topic / My coloring book is done!
« on: November 18, 2015, 09:56:27 AM »
So, for the last little bit I've been working on a coloring book, in hopes that I could sell it to help My friends family pay off her one year old niece's cancer treatment (she has stage four Neuroblastoma) I'm happy to say that it's now being published. I'm excited and super nervous! If anyone wants a link to the book or the gofundme for the little girl, please pm me. It's not on Amazon yet, it should be within the week, it's called "To the Ends of the Page."

Customs / gauging interest for a Charity auction
« on: November 15, 2015, 10:32:09 AM »
Hi all, so my friends little niece has Neuroblastoma.
*link removed per site rules -kkat*
we're all trying to raise money as much as we can and I was pondering if I did auctions for customs (and probably art commissions, even though that's a different board), uf there would be any interest? I know some people here have done charity commissions in the past, do you have any advice?
I'm not sure where to put this, I'm sorry if it's in the wrong place, >.<

Customs / the G4 snow globe pony tutorial is here!
« on: October 29, 2015, 04:55:33 PM »
You asked for it (twice, actually) and I finally got around to doing the first half so here we go~

Spoiler
For this, I use:
a hot knife
a dremel
cardboard or something to put my bits against when they get covered in plastic
ponies
boiling water
resin or apoxie
a watertight glue

First we start the way we do with all g4's, boiling them and taking their heads off. In my case I'm rehairing Celestia so she gets a haircut too.

the winged snow globe ponies need a little additional boiling to get the glue on their wings to loosen so you can take them out. The tail will come with them.

After that, I took a hot knife to get the wing attachments out. There's a hard plastic rod holding them in along with glue, so you have to cut along both sides to the top of the attachment.

Celestia's wings are similar. they have two shelves that keep them in. Cutting along the opening where that shelf is will free them.

We now have headless, wingless glitter ponies!

Celestia gets to have two holes drilled into her. one is in her neck and is where I put in and take out the water. You have to be careful if you plan on having a head that moves. The entire plug will melt and often come off. you can combat this by taking breaks every few seconds or if you have an attachment that allows it, drill it in water, like you would a precious stone. On that note, be careful when playing with these ponies in general and molten plastic is hot and often what you get when making holes.

the second hole is in her front hooves. This is to get the glitter out and in. For the snow globe wings I make one hole in each wing that looks a lot like this one.

after you get the glitter and not really water out, this is what we're left with. From here, personalizing is a lot like other ponies, except that Celestia's body will react badly to acetone. If you can put it only on the cutie mark, and only sparingly. Or, just paint over it.

I haven't taken photos of the finishing process but I'll try to explain it to the best I can. Celestia will get new wings out of a mold of my own which will be sealed in with resin. On Tinkerbelle I got the tail out by cutting away the barrier between the wings and the rump, I don't suggest that. Everything I was trying to seal in ran down her tail until I noticed and plugged it with some silicone. This time I made the tail hole bigger.
Next plug the neck hole with your finger, put the glitter in along with a table spoon and a half of glycerin (more or less, it doesn't so much matter) a long with some water. Make sure all of this ends up in her back hooves or as close as you can get it.
The next part is sealing her hooves, you can use apoxie if you don't need the translucency. If you do, you can make a mold for resin out of pretty much anything. I have monster clay, but you could use duct tape or another clay so long as you put  wax paper at the bottom.
Once everything is sealed, fill up the rest of the pony using the neck hole and a lot of patience. the neck hole is small so it takes a while for water to get in. You can try to add more glycerin here, but I don't suggest it, since it has a higher viscosity.
last, use something to plug the hole. If it's apoxie just stick it in, or if you can find something clear (I use clear silicone) to plug the hole and then put e6000 on top of it. I suppose you could also use a low temp hot glue gun.

For the wings, it's a little easier. Put glycerin, water, and a plug in. glue it shut, then reglue it to it's holders. In my case, I'm actually putting lights and feathers in instead of water so I just need to make a channel for the cords in the holder and glue them back together.

Customs / Do you still want a snowglobe pony tutorial?
« on: October 27, 2015, 04:56:49 PM »
so, before I stopped being able to come earlier this year I said I'd make a snowglobe pony tutorial. Do you all still want that? if so, should I see if I can customize the snowglobe wing ponies too?

Customs / Snow globe Pony Tinkerbell
« on: April 20, 2015, 09:54:22 AM »
She's finally done. She was fun and hard and I'd probably do it again in a heart beat. In fact I'd love to turn Luna into Periwinkle.

I made her wings out of resin and sealed them to her body with resin, so they're actually pretty sturdy. Also, I thought it fitting that she have a Mickey Mouse eye twinkle.

And this is her with all her glitter!
I'd happily walk you all through the process. I was going to do a detailed tutorial, but I forgot to take pictures XD

Also, she's totally for sale, I love her but I think she'd be happier with someone else.

« on: April 06, 2015, 10:51:39 AM »
So, I don't normally brag, just because I like to keep my ponies a surprise for those that watch my facebook or Tumblr page, but I love these ones a bit too much...

He was fun to make! His eyes are resin out of my crystal eye mold. His wings are silicone and I honestly have no clue how I made them. His hooves are resin too and help him have the weight to sometimes stand.
Oh! he glows

Customs / customizing Megan or her sister
« on: March 31, 2015, 12:39:06 PM »
Has anyone ever customized Megan or Molly? Back when I was binge-watching Sailor moon I sort of got the idea of making MLP Usagi, Chibiusa and Pegasus. I Don't have one of the dolls though, so I've never looked at their head joints.

Off Topic / Visiting Washington!
« on: March 26, 2015, 10:33:35 AM »
My friends are awesome and volunteered to be my care-takers for half a week while we visit Washington State at the end of April. I don't have time or money to get a passport to sneak into Canada and eat my beloved Kinder Eggs  But I'll finally get to see my favorite coast ever again!
Is there anything we should totally see while we're there? This is my first time traveling this far since my diseases manifested and my first time ever by plane, how do you keep yourself calm? Any cat-servants know how to best keep them calm while you're away?

Pony Corral / Storing things 0-0
« on: March 19, 2015, 10:40:05 AM »
So, my brother and his family have decided to move into our house to save money for a bigger house. they sold their current house in one day!
Anywho, so this means I'm losing my pony room and craft room (the second was never properly set up, so that's ok). But this means within the next two weeks I need to document and properly store 200 ish ponies and other various merchandise like books, boxes, itty bitty tiny ponies (from petites to the g4 chup chups), even some things that still have candy in them.
I'm a bit overwhelmed, can I get some advice on how to go about it, and maybe how to choose which ponies go in which boxes etc?

Customs / Peacock trade~
« on: February 21, 2015, 06:00:48 PM »
I keep forgetting to put this up. I did a trade with carlabarla, who mentioned she liked peacocks. I already had an experiment already planned and I think she turned out pretty cool.

It's hard to see in the pictures, but if you pull on her necklace her tail sort of rises.  Her pearl is an actual pearl. Her hair is all peacock feathers as well.

Pony Corral / fading tulips?
« on: January 29, 2015, 11:31:55 AM »
So, a friend bought me a Posey for my birthday <3 She looks almost exactly like the Peruvian Posey, but her foot stamps indicate she's not a Nirvana. She's also a shade lighter yellow than my normal Posey. I know that her hair tends to fade, but do her cutie marks fade to white sometimes too?

The Dollhouse / help with a vintage musical doll

I adopted her from a yard sale when I was very young. I've always wondered who she was and where she came from but there's no marks that I can see.

In a related note, when do you decide to sell dolls? I collected porcelain and Barbie dolls until a bad medicine side effect lead me to be mildly terrified of them. I almost want to sell them, but most were Christmas gifts from my family, so I can't decide if nostalgia or fear wins out!

Pony Corral / Pony dreams
« on: January 12, 2015, 09:01:42 AM »
I had the weirdest dream last night. I was at a convention, talking to someone.
"You're not a real pony collector."
"Yes I am!" I said.
"Oh yeah, how much have you spent on a single pony?"
I think in my dream I said 80. Which is odd, as I can only think of spending that amount on a playset with lots of ponies, but it was a dream so I guess my subconscious just grabbed a random number.
"But I would spend more if my mom would let me!" I added in a juvenile tone. I then went on to find a fakie, that, despite being ugly replaced the bridal beauty mold as one of my needed baits.

Anyway, what are your odd pony-related dreams?
