Customs / Preparing for my first custom...!
« on: June 05, 2023, 07:48:45 PM »
Hi everyone~

I want to make a custom of my OC, Rhapsody! I was going to try and commission her, and I still might do that too, just for fun... but I think it would be more exciting and special if I made her myself.

I can browse other forum posts like I have been for links to tools and where to buy hair, of course, but I wanted to post and see if I could get any second opinions based on her design on what I should do... here she is:

My main thing is the hair, I love her hair looking thick, spikey and punk—not sticking straight out or anything but I definitely want that cool look. Any tips for what type of hair to get? Do you think Nylon would work best or should I try for Kiwi or anything else?  :brow:

I'll likely use clay to make the fetlocks (saw a tutorial on youtube that looks doable!) and follow the gradient paint tutorial for her legs (they are gradient, i just couldn't do it very smoothly with my markers  :) practice makes perfect). And of course, tiny detail brushes for her markings and cutie mark and all that. My main dilemma is just deciding what type of hair to get and what might look best with her metal style.

Thanks for chiming in if you have any recs! Also, I'll be working with a G4 pony. I have a bait G4 Alicorn with me ready to go!

Pony Corral / MLP Fair 2007 Memorabilia
« on: May 29, 2022, 04:58:49 PM »
Hi, every pony

I was digging through my basement trying to find something (I did not find it  -_- ), but in the process discovered some things I had no clue that I still owned. I did at one point find a handful of MLP buttons and pins from the 2008 and 2009 fair respectively, but I gave some of them away (along with some fair memorabilia) to people who adopted my customs from me. I feel like I should have photographed them before doing that in hindsight, so just to ensure I don't make the same mistake again, I wanted to make this post to archive the 2007 fair content that I have!

As a historian, I'm particularly obsessed with archiving things, and in particular fandom content. Fandom means a lot to me and preserving its history is something a lot of people don't think about—fandom is a hobby, something fun to do in your free time. A lot of people move onto different fandoms and leave old ones behind, in the process getting rid of a lot of fandom history thoughtlessly. It's inevitable, but whatever we can save I like to document as much as I can.

Here is what I have!

Included in the image is Sevenbelles, one custom creator, and the name tags of two of the customs she made that my family purchased for me (I was spoiled, clearly ) Jewel and Harmony have since been rehomed and I wish that I had found these sooner so I could have sent them off together. Ah well...

I will only do closeups and a flip through of the program. The badge has my name on it and I'm going to wear it to Whinny City Pony Con next weekend for fun with the Applejack badge

Here is the pamphlet:

I hope you enjoy looking back on this even if you still have your own copy! If you were at the fair, I'd like to know too. I was only 9 years old when I went and I have always been very meticulous about keeping things that are important to me in good shape, but I know that in this case, it's thanks to my grandma that everything is in such good condition! She saves a lot for me!

Customs / Selling Customs that aren't yours
« on: July 31, 2018, 05:15:03 PM »
Hello MLP Arena!

Long time no see! I went to the Pony Fairs of '07, '08, and '09 as a little girl, and now I'm over halfway through college with a massive collection of all sorts of ponies. I know how to deal with the G1's, G2's, and G3's that I've collected... but at those Fairs I accumulated lots of customs.

I see that people sell customs but they are usually customs that they've made themselves. All of the customs I'm looking to get rid of are ones I haven't made myself. Some of the people who made the customs wrote their names and the year made on the hooves, but others simply left initials or nothing at all  :(

I'm having a garage sale soon and I'd hate to include the customs, since many of them have delicate horns and additions... they'd break easily if handled by kids (and could even hurt them if handled carelessly). I know pony collectors are out there so I thought this was the best place to ask what to do.

Is it okay to resell customs, ones that you haven't made yourself?

If so, how much are they usually worth?

If it's not okay, then what do you think I should do? Should I see if any local pony collectors are willing to take them off my hands for no price? I'm not as concerned about the money as I am about getting these gorgeous customs to a good home.

I attached a pic of some of them to give you all an idea.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Off Topic / Best girlfriend ever!
« on: June 11, 2013, 12:23:23 PM »
My wonderful girlfriend sits and listens to me ramble about ponies for hours. And watches with a smile as I show her my collection and describe every single one. I thought she was just not paying attention the whole time and simply smiling and nodding, but the other day she asked if I had any bait ponies. I said yes but was confused, and then she said she was going to make me a custom pony of my original character for me!  He's quite crazy and has rainbow hair, and she knows I love the unicorns so she's going to make a unicorn version of him with rainbow hair/tail.

My point is I'm very happy! I've never had a girlfriend that would make me a custom pony. She's the best I could ask for.

Introductions / Hello from Vix~
« on: June 07, 2013, 08:04:13 PM »
Hello, fellow pony fans! The name's Capri, but I go by Vixenfur on most every website imaginable. I'm 15 years old and grew up with generation 3, but I fell in love with the original shows from the 80's and the 90's. Mainly My Little Pony n' Friends, but Tales was a fun show as well.
As a kid, I would travel the U.S. with my very amazing grandparents, who loved spoiling me and would willingly drive me around just for ponies. And, of course, they let me buy millions of gorgeous and expensive customs- they are the pride and glory of my ponies~
The first convention I went to was the My Little Pony Fair 2007 in Memphis, Tennessee, and I went all over for the convention years afterwords- from Providence, Rhode Island to Las Vegas, Nevada- and eventually lost the time to do so once the convention hit Kentucky again in 2010. It was around that time I discovered anime and cosplay, and since then I have attended WAY too many anime conventions in the Chicago-land area. I am an avid cosplay of many things, from book characters to anime characters to movie characters.
Though, one thing I noticed was the quickly rising popularity of the generation 4 ponies. People were cosplaying Applejack, who was my favorite as a kid. I was so very confused, so I checked out the show and was like, 'wow! This is cute. But Rarity turned into a Rainbow Dash/Sparkler lovechild, Rainbow Dash became Firefly with rainbows, Twilight just looks different, Fluttershy can fly, and Pinkie Pie... what the hell?' I was glad that Applejack and Spike returned, though, I was very amused by this. I looked into their concept art and history and was very excited when I saw Laura Faust's concept art of Applejack, Sparkler (as I had guessed!), Rosey, Twilight, Surprise and most of all, Firefly!
Ever since then I have respected the fans that draw modernized versions of the originals, but I really don't like the bronies that hate on the classics. If you're one of them, then please, do not voice out that opinion. It would hurt my feelings and probably many others on this site. :)

Anyways, if you'd like to look at my profiles on my other sites, feel free to check out my deviantART (vixenfurr.deviantart.com), or my tumblr (vixenfur.tumblr.com). If you also like anime, let's see what we have in common!

As a kid I always wanted to be part of this website, but I was a good girl and listened to the 'no members under 14' rule. So now that I'm over 14, here I am :D
