Pony Brag Arena / Two brothers, reunited at last!
« on: February 06, 2016, 04:32:29 PM »
So, the story behind this brag is that about two years ago, I finally obtained my pony grail: Ice Crystal. He was flawless. He was beautiful. He was expensive! And then, shortly after, I realized I needed funds more than I needed gorgeous ponies, and I sold him. :( Recently I started collecting again and I knew my first purchase had to be a new IC to replace my lost and sorely missed boy. Around the same time I won him in an auction, I saw that Lykke here on the Arena had Fireball up for sale! An INSANELY perfect Fireball, at that. And as it turns out, she had also sold her Ice Crystal a while back and Fireball was missing his bro dearly.

I decided I simply had to reunite them.

Icey arrived about a week before Fireball (who was enjoying being a world traveler on his way from overseas), but at long last they're back together and so handsome I may just die.

The Dollhouse / Wanted: Boys! My girls are getting bored.
« on: April 07, 2013, 08:14:18 PM »
If you have a guy on hand (MIB or loose, doesn't matter) and you'd like to send him to live with a bunch of foxy ladies, let me know! I'd prefer Clawd most of all but I will consider Deuces and CAM boys as well. I'm not super picky. Just need to diversify the collection a bit.

PM or reply here. Thanks! :)

The Dollhouse / Well, it finally happened.

Look what you've all done to me!
I saw the Monster High dolls on the shelves wayyy back when and thought they were awesome. But at the time I felt a little weird buying one as a twenty-one year old. Little did I know that places like this forum exist, where none of those arbitrary "age" rules apply!

I told myself I would never get one, because I knew the obsession that would quickly follow (for example, I just started re-collecting ponies about two months ago, and I now have 132 of them. That's how fast I work, people). But this DAMN FORUM and its seductive powers!! I spent half the day trying to convince myself to forget about Monster High entirely.

Yeeeahhh... fail. Long story short, Spectra came home with me tonight and immediately bonded with Rarity. I can see them being good buddies (and also oddly similar in their coloring). They are snuggled up together on the shelf now.

WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME, ARENA? You'll be hearing from my pocketbook about this.

Pony Brag Arena / A great kick-off to flea market season!
« on: March 30, 2013, 01:53:28 PM »
So I wandered over to one of the nearby flea markets today, not really expecting to find anything. But lo and behold, I stumbled upon a booth with a bunch of ratty, tangled G3's. I snagged Pinkie Pie II and Goody Gumdrop for $1 each (and they cleaned up wonderfully). :)

I was about to leave when something caught my eye up on a shelf. It was this beat up old plastic stable, and when I opened the lid, G1 heaven!  :frolic: Sadly I already had most of the ponies inside, save for two babies, Firefly and Surprise, which I snatched up for $5 a piece. I had to haggle the guy down a bit, he was trying to tell me they were both worth $15 per pony.

I'm so excited to have found G1's! And such beautiful little ones, too. If this is how this year's flea market season is going to be, I can't wait for the rest of the summer to get here!

Wanted! / Wanted: 4-Speed, Quarterback, Slugger and Steamer!
« on: March 21, 2013, 05:51:47 PM »
Those are the four Big Brothers I still need to complete the set! However, I am fairly picky about their condition. For example, pink hair must still be pink and poor 4-Speed must not have any cancer or discoloration (I feel like that's a big problem for him). If you have any of their accessories as well, that's even better! PM me if you have any of them and are willing to let them go. :) Thanks!

Pony Brag Arena / First successful restoration!
« on: March 14, 2013, 03:40:38 PM »
Welp, about a month ago I purchased a very sad looking Powder from a woman on Etsy. The poor girl had a giant ring of white-out around her neck, a yellowed and cut mane and a dry tail with some serious rust going on. Not to mention various other marks and names written on her. I decided I would use her as my guinea pig for my first restoration attempt (and my second try at rehairing).

After some serious cussing, a lot of patience and many, many acetone-soaked cotton balls, she is looking MUCH happier! Here's the before photos (taken from Etsy since I am horrible at taking before photos):

Pony Corral / Is anyone else slightly horrified by this?
« on: March 14, 2013, 12:08:10 PM »
Or is it just me?

Sorry, I find carving out a perfectly good pony and planting stuff in them kind of terrible. But to each their own, I guess. *cries*  :yikes:

Wanted! / Original six ponies wanted!
« on: March 10, 2013, 06:44:38 PM »
Minus Cotton Candy and Blossom. Those two I have already. For some reason, I've never managed to find a really good condition Minty, Snuzzle, Blue Belle and Butterscotch. I feel like it's time to return to the basics. If you have one (can be either concave or flat foot, I don't mind, but none of the more modern re-released collectors ones) of these lovely ladies in **great** condition and you're willing to part with her, PM me. :)

Thanks!

Pony Brag Arena / A moment eight years in the making. (GRAILS!!)
« on: March 05, 2013, 06:40:22 PM »
I present to you... the assembly of my three childhood grails, at long last!!

There were always three ponies I was dying to have when I was young. I would pine over them online and beg my parents to help me out, but apparently they did not understand spending money (especially lots of it) on ponies. I just resigned myself to the thought that I'd never have them.

Until I grew up, got a job and decided to hell with it, I was gonna get those ponies or die trying! Well, with the arrival of Ice Crystal this morning (via the amazing and lovely zabe77, thank you so much!) my mission was finally complete.

And here they are, my three beauties! I am especially stunned by Sunbeam's near-perfection, and Pillow Talk is gorgeous even with her mane trim.

Let's not even talk about Icey. I'll start weeping.
Thank you to all of their previous owners for making this possible. I can now die happy.  :lovey:

Pony Brag Arena / Rescues from the scary vintage toy store!
« on: February 24, 2013, 05:53:22 PM »
It's not THAT scary, but the ponies I find there certainly are!  Luckily they all cleaned up pretty well today!

I dug through the basket in the back of the store where ponies sometimes appear, and discovered an EXTREMELY dirty Medley (but her symbols were great so I gave her a chance), a SS Lofty with good flocking and nice hair, a pearly baby sea pony (Water Lily I believe), and a Magic Hat whose symbols were almost entirely rubbed off. I will have to repaint those at some point. Otherwise she's pretty nice still!

And then... then came the flutter ponies. There were not one, not two, but FOUR of them hidden under a stack of fakies and G2s! I pulled out Honeysuckle, Forget-Me-Not, Morning Glory and Rosedust. Their hair was somewhat akin to a rat's nest, or possibly several tumbleweeds, but conditioner and a lot of patience fixed that problem.

Gotta say, I'm not normally a fan of the flutter ponies but I think I may be falling in love. They're just so PRETTY!

Wanted! / Ice Crystal. Nuff said.
« on: February 22, 2013, 02:34:39 PM »
He is my current grail, and I am willing to fork up some considerable cash for anyone looking to sell. Not that you'd want to, because he is GORGEOUS! But I figured it never hurts to ask! PM me or post here if you're looking to make some money and you'd like to fulfill my childhood (and adult) dreams! <3

Introductions / Hi everybody!
« on: February 22, 2013, 03:36:27 AM »
Hey guys! My name is Kelly, but you can also call me Tic Tac Toe if you wish. I'm pretty excited to finally be here after many years of inactivity in the pony-collecting world. I have loved MLPs ever since I was a kid, and I used to collect for some time before financial issues forced me to sell off my herd.  :(

But a chance find at a vintage toy store last month reawakened my love for ponies and made me decide to take it up once again. Now I am in the process of rebuilding my collection and getting to know other collectors and fans in the process. It's pretty awesome and I'm very excited!

I'm here to buy, possibly sell, and to get tips and ideas for restoration (I have quite a few ponies coming my way that need a LOT of TLC. Eep). I am thrilled to finally talk to some people who don't think I'm nuts!

Good to meet everyone. Let me know if you have any questions! I'm gonna go take some pictures of my current herd so I can brag about my latest finds.

- TicTac

Edit: And of course, being so excited I totally forgot to include the important stuff! :P

How old are you?: I am 23 years old.

Where do you live? State, Country?: I live in Ohio, in the good old US of A.

Do you work or attend school? Profession or major?: I work and I am attending school to become a Graphic Designer. Almost done!

Who are the important people in your life?: My boyfriend who I live with (who has to deal with the pony obsession, god bless him), my friends and family. I have a small close-knit family who I adore.

Ponies:

How long have you been collecting?: Originally for about three years, but recently only for a few weeks!

Which generations of ponies do you collect? G1, G2, G3 or G4?: G1 all the way. I'm a bit of a snob, I'll readily admit it. The newer ponies are fine, I just prefer to focus on the originals.

What made you want to collect ponies?: Um, they're amazing?! I have always been fascinated by them and they just plain make me smile.

Tell us about your collection!: Currently I'm at about 40 of the little buggers, but it is constantly growing. I need new shelf space!
