I've been back at restoring some ponies, and one thing I've noticed is that original pony hair seems... springier and more lightweight than new nylon hair. The original manes curl up naturally without losing its shape but my restored ponies don't seem to have that.
Is this a known thing or am I just crazy? Do I just need to make sure I REALLY boil-perm the slight curl into the manes?

I see a lot of people talk about the customization process, but not much about the planning. How do you all go about it? Do you use lineart/bases? Keep it in your head? Do you wing it? Do you work on one at a time or do you have several concepts to choose from? Where do you get inspiration from? I'm curious to hear how everyone does it!

Could anyone tell me quick how long Lemon Drop's forelock is? Is it the same length as the rest of her mane or is it a little shorter? And if so about how many plugs does it take up? Unfortunately I don't have a minty Lemon Drop to compare to my rehair

I'm getting ready to rehair a pony and I noticed a section on her head where the plugs have all split open and made one big hole. It's not HUGE but it involves what used to be about 7-10 plugs. Is there any way to fix it with some kind of glue or something? I'm extra bummed because it's one of my aunt's childhood ponies that I'm restoring and I just want it to still look nice when I'm done.

I'm working on fixing up some glitter symbols and it's made me want to see other people's efforts at re-glittering.  I'll start: visitors can't see pics , please register or loginvisitors can't see pics , please register or loginWish they didn't stick out so much, but I think that's unavoidable with glitter paint. Still pretty happy with how they turned out!

I have a Night Glider with a chopped mane and I think it would be fun to do an alternate rehair on her. I think I'd like to at least give her a couple stripes in colors that match her symbols.
Anyone know what Retrodolls/Dollyhair colors best match her purple and yellow symbols?
Also, does RetrodollsUS offer samples? I know Dollyhair does but seeing as they've had various issues for a while now, I think I'd rather get hair from someone else.

I recently sunfaded a Melody, and was removing the paint covering her eyes and blush... but some of it just won't come off. I've scrubbed at it with rubbing alcohol and a magic eraser, but no luck. There's still a lot of stubborn little flecks. visitors can't see pics , please register or login(I also managed to rub off what remained of her original blush, which sucks  ) What's the next best step? I'd rather not resort to chemicals right away.

So I have a Nightglider that has what looks like Sharpie marks on her nose. I've seen some discussion about using UV lamps to sunfade, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone do it. And since I happen to have a UV bulb, I decided to actually try it! visitors can't see pics , please register or loginvisitors can't see pics , please register or loginI'm hoping this will be faster than the weak spring sun here. I'll monitor her progress and document it here. (Hope no one thinks any less of me for using a rarer pony as a guinea pig  None of the other ponies I have have such drastic marks though. I figured it was better to use something that would be obvious if it improved)

I recently acquired a Night Glider whose hair has definitely seen better days, and I think it would be fun to rehair her with something besides plain white But I'm not sure what to do, so I'd like to see all the other Night Glider rehairs out there to get some ideas! (And if you can name the colors you used, that would be even better)

My family was visiting me a few days ago for my birthday, so we decided to go downtown for a bit. We stopped in an antique store, and after looking around I managed to find some ponies.  That alone would have been cool enough, but when I dug through them, I find... a Night Glider! For $5.50!!  visitors can't see pics , please register or loginvisitors can't see pics , please register or loginA little grungy, but nothing that can't be fixed with a little TLC (and maybe a re-hairing) Incidentally, I did already have a somewhat-baity Night Glider (that still cost a decent amount, lol), but at such a low price I wasn't going to pass this girl up. visitors can't see pics , please register or loginNight Glider, meet Night Glider!I was going to do an alternate rehair on the first one, but her hair really isn't that bad compared to the new one so maybe I should just try to whiten it? Hmm. Also the new one has a fair amount of pindot - is there something I can use to scrape it off besides fingernails? Mine might be long enough, but they're not very strong, and I don't want to totally wreck them.

Hi guys, I'm touching up a Moondancer with some pretty faded symbols. I was going to use some red Extreme Glitter paint from Folkart for her stars, but after taking a closer look, her glitter looks more like a dark pink. Is that its real color, or has it just faded over time? And if her stars are actually pink, what brand/color of glitter would be a match for them? And while I'm at it, for colored glitter, is it better to mix some silver with it before painting it on, or should I paint a layer of silver on before using the colored glitter? I want the symbols to look as close to the originals as possible

I recently discovered that the Walgreens stores near me still have a few ponies from the pearlized G4 wave. Do people still go after them? I was debating on getting some to sell here, but if there's no interest then I'll just get the ones I want for myself I haven't even bought G4 in a long time but the pearly ones are just really appealing to meSo far I've seen: -Twilight -Rainbow Dash -Nurse Redheart -Cherry Berry & What other chains could I check out that carry pony stuff? Besides Target or Walmart I guess (I doubt they'd still have any stock THAT old)

Thinking of sunfading some marks off of: -Moondancer -Red Roses -Medley -Sunbeam -Pony Bride (x2) -Rosedust -August Poppy -possibly Glow? She looks a bit dingy, but I'm not sure if it's that or it's just what her normal color is My main concern is the ponies with glitter symbols. Can you safely paint over them and remove it later without losing too much glitter? Some of them have lost a lot already (Moondancer's moons are just barely visible) And are the blue/green ponies more prone to sunburn in general? I also have a g3 Waterfire and Darling Dahlia with marks, but I don't see nearly as much discussion about how sunfading affects gen 3 ponies
