MLP Nirvana / How much do authentic adult Takaras go for?
« on: November 05, 2013, 03:01:06 AM »
I'd like to purchase myself an authentic adult Takara pony at some point, but I'd like to know how much they typically sell for so that I can get an idea of how much I'll need to save. :) Thank you in advance.

Customs / Painting over sealant?
« on: October 13, 2013, 05:26:46 AM »
I've got an unfinished custom that I would like to re-do, but her body has already been painted and sealed. Is it possible to paint over the sealant without it causing any bad effects in the long run?
Thank you in advance. :)

Arts & Crafts Corral / Arena, I need your help/ free lineart!
« on: October 12, 2013, 10:50:08 AM »
I want to draw a pony, but I can't decide which one.  ;___;
So, I'd like you to tell me what pony - or ponies - I should draw. They'll be sketches, because my scanner has a tendency to fade colors. I don't have any examples of MLP related art, but here's a drawing I did for a user on PonyIsland of a Kirin, to give you an idea of how I draw ponies.
>>Click<<

Edit: Upon further thought, I decided to turn some of my sketches in free lineart for Arena members to use. There is no strings attached; you may use these as long as you don't claim the lineart was created by you or add major edits (for example, re-drawing it to turn it into a different breed or something). These are .PNG files, they should be compatible with any printer and digital art program.

Arts & Crafts Corral / [Pony Photography] I found a little wood sprite

[Cross-posted on MLPTP]
I walked outside a couple of days ago to find this little one on a nearby fencepost, it seems she decided to leave the woods for a short visit.  :lovey:

Taken with a Sony Cyber-Shot, which takes incredibly nice pictures when it wants to.

Pony Corral / Are you an active or retired collector?
« on: August 14, 2013, 08:31:29 AM »
The question is in the title: Do you actively collect ponies anymore?

I've been seriously collecting since I was about ten. When I became a tween, I was a bit more selective and only chose the ones whose colors I liked. Now, I've thinned my herd considerably and have only kept the ones that I absolutely can't do without. I don't have the money or space for the hobby anymore, and I'd much rather have a few of my favorites then none at all.  :)

Customs / Sculptors, how do you do it?
« on: June 16, 2013, 03:08:10 PM »
I'd like to try sculpting clothing/hair/etc. on ponies, but I've got a few questions I would like answered before I begin.
1. How do you put sculpting on the pony? Do you bake it beforehand and then glue it on, or do you bake it while it's on the pony?
1.5. If you do the latter in the previous question, what temperature do you bake both the pony and the clay at?
2. What brand of sculpting material do you use?
3. How do you support large sculpted objects, such as wings?

Your responses are greatly appreciated, thank you in advance! :)

I used to do a lot of customizing when I was younger, but I fell out of it and stopped doing it for a while when life got busy. Now, though, things have cooled down and I can begin customizing again. As a warm up I did a small sculpture of one of my PonyIsland ponies, Metro.
Here is her compared with a normal large chicken egg; I'm sorry that the images are a bit on the blurry side. Her body color differs from her PI counterpart's because I was unable to mix the exact shade of purple.

Customs / Hair color match for Baby Firefly?
« on: April 15, 2013, 04:39:27 PM »
I've got a Baby Firefly who is in need of re-hairing; what is a exact/close hair color match for her? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'd like to practice drawing ponies, but drawing my PonyIsland ponies can become boring after a while, especially when I'm still developing their characters, so I'm offering some free art to Arena peeps.

As of right now, I'm only taking three (3) requests at a time, and only one per person. I'll be juggling these between school, sick chickens, and other such things, so please keep in mind that these may take a bit longer than expected. They'll be done in mechanical pencil; I don't have time to do them digitally.

Arts & Crafts Corral / [Sundown Art] Garden Greens
« on: March 06, 2013, 02:08:31 PM »
(Cross-posted on PonyIsland)

I haven't done full body pony art in years - especially ones with backgrounds  - so I was a bit intimidated by this piece, my entry for PonyIsland's 9th Birthday Party Art Contest. It was sketched by hand, scanned, and then colored and inked in Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0. The piece features my PI Dragonpony, Shasta.

The theme was Garden Party, and those who entered were required to include the number 9 somewhere in their entry. Can you find it? ;)

Customs / [Help] How do I remove the head from a Precious Pocket pony?
« on: January 16, 2013, 08:26:28 PM »
I have a bait condition Lil'Pocket who I'd like to use for a custom project, but I can't figure out how to get her head off. Should I use an X-Acto knife to remove it, or is there some other method I should try? Any help will be appreciated!

Pony Corral / LemonDrop's Dilemma [Fading Marks WMW]
« on: January 06, 2013, 07:05:56 PM »
I purchased an absolutely gorgeous LemonDrop recently; no bite marks, pindot mold; or pony cancer, which is great.

The only problem? She's covered in purple marker marks, so heavily she looks dappled. I had a similar experience before, involving a Cherries Jubilee, and it was easy to fix.

So what am I doing? I'm going to cover poor Lemon in Neutrogena On-The-Spot Acne medication; leave the medication on for about three days, remove it, and check the results. I'll repeat the process until all of the stains have vanished.

Wish me luck!

If attempting this yourself, take great caution to keep the medication away from the symbols! I don't know for sure if they'll remove those as well, but it is better to be safe than sorry. I didn't take this caution only because I'm going to repaint her symbols anyways, so I guess we'll find out if they'll fade or not.

Introductions / Not new, but returning!
« on: December 20, 2012, 01:49:34 PM »
Hello, everyone!

I originally joined during summer, but due to moving ended up taking a rather long hiatus. Now that I have internet access, I thought I should just re-introduce myself since I've been gone for so long.

For those who do not know me, I'm Sundown, commonly referred to as Sunn or SD. I'm a student whose interests are, aside from MLP, PonyIsland, Studio Ghibli movies, reading, gaming, drawing, painting, writing, dancing, and raising animals. I originally became hooked on MLP when I ran across a G1 Baby Sleep Tight pony at a local thrift shop, and that spark was rekindled when a friend gave me a G3 Pinkie Pie for my sixth birthday.  ^.^ I've loved ponies ever since!

Customs / Could anyone please show me customs with sculpted hair?
« on: August 22, 2012, 01:56:07 PM »
As soon as I have time, I'm going to be creating a large group of customs that will have sculpted hair, and I'd like to see some examples. Any help will be appreciated, thanks!
