Pony Corral / What lengths do you go to for your ponies?
« on: August 02, 2020, 11:38:52 PM »
While some may be content to collect their ponies and have them on display, perhaps never to be touched and taken off their shelf space, others might perhaps find more joy in interacting with their ponies- maybe through imaginary play, or the occasional photoshoot. There is no wrong way to collect, and- if desired, interacting with your ponies.

But today, I want to address the interactive type of collectors. How do you interact with your ponies? What lengths do you go for them? Perhaps you painstakingly pose them and agonize over the right lighting and backdrops for their photoshoots? Perhaps you have been having them out to keep you company as you channel surf your way through home lockdown. Or maybe they occupy a space at your kitchen table just to make home stay seem a little less lonely, if you’re all by yourself.

Personally, I enjoy giving my girls photoshoots once in a while- the more adventurous fillies and foals will sometimes prefer the outdoors, and I take them on my walks. The greater lengths I go to for my pony gals, though, are creating handmade sets for the ones who prefer their photoshoots at home. (Or throwing 5 separate parties in the course of one day, and being the photographer for the ponies. How the heck does Pinkie Pie do it?!)

Pony Corral / What if- ponies go to the dark side?
« on: July 31, 2020, 06:53:08 PM »
Ok, I know this will likely never ever happen, but I just have to wonder....MY LITTLE PONY hasn’t been shy about throwing Christianity themes in the animated series- ever since g1 (though it seems far more prevalent in g4)...Demonic centaurs, witches, demonic gods of chaos, the literal realm of HELL (Tartarus), Horned devil costumes worn by the ponies in the background, Moochick mentioning “heaven”, PARADISE estate, Characters named Angel Bunny and Angel Wings, name swaps with “Celestia” being used in phrases with “God” in them.....

So with all this, hypothetically....what if Hasbro acquired the rights to the VERY adult-aimed animated Indie content Produced by “Vivziepop”, the creator of “Hazbin Hotel” (an animated pilot about demons and sinners in hell wanting to be “redeemed” by a demon princess so they can go to heaven) and began doing Pony crossover releases in the collectibles department (available online only, for obvious reasons), sort of in the way that they have been doing for their board games (and MtG) lately? Would this acquisition and possible mashup help or hinder the pony brand? Would it make it more “endearing” toward the adult audience? Does pony need to go in such a direction? How might Vivziepop’s fan base feel about Cute pastel ponies in their (hypothetically now Hasbro’s) playground?

Pony Corral / Pony decorating suggestions?
« on: July 29, 2020, 08:26:30 PM »
Staying home has me bored out my skull and so I have been redecorating using cheap Dollar store products. https://sayastarr.tumblr.com/post/625034926384922624/pony-theme-redecorating
Thing is- I want to display ponies in some way that isn’t through wall decals. The walls are super thin panels, because super old trailer, so I don’t want to punch nails or screws in the walls if it can be helped. I also don’t want to mess up the wrapping paper/poster board I used to decorate, if something were to fall off and damage the print.  I thought about making a pony display hammock out of some scrap Fabric material I had lying around. But it would be a tight fit for my larger ponies.
Any suggestions?

Pony Corral / Are these pony accessories?
« on: July 28, 2020, 10:41:34 AM »
I happened to get these while thrifting, and they came in a bag with some ponies. I was wondering if they are, in fact, combs and hats from earlier gen sets.

Pony Corral / Will the franchise ever be how it was, again?
« on: July 21, 2020, 08:19:25 PM »
I know for too long of a time that g4 fans have criticized earlier generations of MLP, and I’m sure that past gen fans have felt the same. Generation 4 is a very strange era in the franchise that  as just a wholesome show for little girls to enjoy, but almost immediately began to cater to the older male fans that spawned out of some other site- I think the exact moment was from the beginning of the episode “The Last Roundup” straight through to the series’ end. What I mean by this is that the g4 fandom not only heavily influenced both the animated series, but the g4 comics that were made to feature more adult content that they couldn’t approach in the tv series, and also influencing the toyline- taking on more molded manes, like they wanted, being more show accurate like they wanted, and by in large having the mane 6 and Princesses be repetitively spawned because the Mane 6 and Secondary 6 fan favorites were favorites of the Bronies, getting a more mature  Guardians of Harmony line, blue and white packaging, poseable, articulated and angry-faced figures with weapons....

These are all things that were absent from the first 3 generations of MLP, and it is, admittedly, disheartening that this entire generation of g4 and every bit of Licensed content that came from it was shaped by and specifically tailored to and for the Bronies from early on it its run. (Whether they themselves admit to it or not)

I would like to know how early gen fans feel, and whether you guys think that the pony franchise will ever Return to the way it was before. Not largely  influenced by and made then onward by an adamant and vocal fandom.
On the flip side, are there any positive elements that you might think can result in fandom influence in future pony generations?

Off Topic / Thoughts on Vivziepop & Hazbin Hotel?
« on: July 20, 2020, 12:10:28 AM »
I didn’t see any topics made about this, but this content creator seems to have amassed a very large and loud following seemingly overnight. I had never heard of this person called “Vivziepop” until I started seeing reviews and reactions to her OC animation, Hazbin Hotel being trending on YouTube a few months back. She also apparently worked on “Helluva Boss” and done animations prior to HH. One thing I person found intriguing is that Silva Hound, a musician that I was familiar with as they once put out some really good g4 fan made tracks/ was part of Vivziepop’s music production team. Wasn’t expecting that!

Does anyone have any thoughts on this Vivziepop person and their animations?

Pony Corral / Second chances for obscure Pony lines
« on: July 16, 2020, 07:08:51 AM »
Because reboots have been gaining popularity for a while now among animated media, I began wondering, what if companies like Hasbro saw the trends and were motivated to dust off and reboot some of their old toylines?  Purely hypothetical- what if some of the more obscure MLP lines- namely Takara ponies (although I believe they might be owned by Sony, now?). Do you think they would benefit from the a redesign? Are they fine with their current design? Why could be done for them to appeal to the kiddos, today? Would they be released again as a Japanese exclusive line? Would they get their own animated series?

How would you guys consider handling a Takara pony reboot, if you were part of the marketing team being asked to handle these ponies?

Pony Corral / Is Pony Life the result of fan pandering?
« on: July 12, 2020, 04:29:58 AM »
So I see a lot of people in g4 fandom kinda hating PL...
And all I can think of is...no joke, “didn’t you guys ask for this?”

G4 fandom: ponies much cute. Even cuter if we draw them like cats! Here pony playing with yarn. Here pony in box.

Hasbro: ok. We’ll wrap up g4 and make a spinoff. Call it Pony Life. Yes. Ponies will look like cats and act like hyper cats. Much like. Yes.

G4 fandom: what this? Much hate. No. -hisssss

It really does seem to me that the writers for this spinoff made PL with the g4 fandom in mind- which explains the ponies being very cat-like, because the g4 fandom started trending it. It explains why the series was written as if watchers of it already had prior knowledge of the Pony world and characters to get a LOT of the flanderized jokes that Pony Life hits with. But the irony seems to be that while it seems (to me) that this spinoff was made as a result of the g4 fans overhyping and portraying the ponies as cats in the first place, (I have seen this being done for many years, so it is nothing new), they seem to detest it when Hasbro jumps on the bandwagon and seemingly tries to impress the fans who were all but asking for it, in the first place.

What do you guys think?

Pony Corral / Has MLP ever made you laugh?
« on: June 23, 2020, 10:52:13 PM »
I’m actually quite curious if My Little Pony’s content has made anyone laugh before? I know that everyone has a different sense of humor, and maybe MLP’s type of humor doesn’t strike your funny bone...or maybe it does. Personally, I cannot recall anything from any gen making me laugh. I’ve cracked some smiles here and there...maybe a chuckle at a line from Pony Life, of all things, but nothing significant or noteworthy. (However, There have been many Tumblr posts that have me in utter hysterics and tears, that I do wish at times that future MLP gens were left in the hands of Tumblr users as writers)

Has any pony content made you guys laugh? If it hasn’t, then why do you think that is?

Pony Corral / Is Pony Life going to age well?
« on: June 20, 2020, 02:23:18 PM »
I ask this because some of the synopsis have particular wording that makes it clear what decade this is going to be from and cater to- words like “tablet” and “selfie” already make the whole magical fantasyland feel out of the new series. But do you guys think that referencing technology and such like this (albeit it was already heavily done in EG) is going to age PL very poorly, and that whatever next generation might look upon this won’t really be left with an understanding of these technological and terminology fads and phrases?

Pony Corral / Non pony species- what is your favorite?
« on: June 15, 2020, 10:28:36 PM »
My Little Pony has a very large amount of non pony species- from Bushwooloes, Furbobs, Witches, Trolls, Penma, and Pigs, to Griffons, Zebras, Twittermites, Perasprites, Bugbears, and Ursa Major/Minor. The world across every pony generation is chock full of interesting and largely unexplored species. What is your personal favorite? What sort of backstory might you give to a select non-pony species that might lack one?

I have always had a fascination for the Ursa that were introduced in g4- as I had long held love for astronomy - even making OC’s with astro-attributes and names. The Ursa remain largely mysterious, and I like to think that they are the raw energy “astra” forms of Care Bears, which were distant and ancestors of certain clans of ponies (through Noble Heart Horse).

The Penma are another interesting species- possessing shape shifting powers, and are quite beautiful in their default form.

Pony Corral / Pony mane massacres
« on: June 11, 2020, 10:21:54 PM »
What is the worst condition pony mane that you have ever come across? Share your horrid stories that would make Rarity running for the hills!

I thought the worst pony mane I had ever dealt with was Scoops who had been given a very close shave buzzcut, but no. No, no, no. I happened to get sweet little Wave Catcher today, and her hair looked fine- nicely braided and in fair condition. But once I got her out the bag and unbraided her hair...all hell broke loose. Or rather, all hair broke loose. Oh. My. God, did it break, and kept on breaking! I thought that it was strange, seeing little fuzz pieces that I thought were just the ends start flaking off. I gave her some vigorous shakes and a few good smacks to her hair, thought that was the end of it.

Boy, was I wrong! Once I started giving her a good thorough scrub over with a soft toothbrush and then tackling brushing out her hair with the same brush- as I do with every pony that comes home from the thrift- I watched in absolute horror as the brush gobbled up the orange streaks in her mane, as if it was a razor. After half of her orange streaks were gone, I just decided to quit altogether and leave her to dry before she wound up completely bald. I have no earthly idea what I’m going to be doing with what’s left of her once beautiful locks.

Just what the heck?!

Omg, my poor Wave Catcher. What did your previous owner do you you, my poor girl?

Sooooooo, I got to thinking, what if Hasbro Or some third party company with the licensee to make the prototypes were to quietly release the all black Pony and brown speckled Pony that Bonnie originally made, during some point in 2020?

How might you guys view these pony prototypes being released at this point in time? What do you think these guys names might be? The black one looks like a Black Licorice to me, while the brown one looks like a Caramel Cream.

Pony Corral / G5 fan content?
« on: June 07, 2020, 06:02:30 PM »
Every Pony gen has the fans making the staple art of it- fan drawings, fanfiction. But I have to wonder if this expanse from staple fan drawings and fanfic and expansion into other artistic expressions, through PMV, music, fan animations, plushies, crafts, etc. will become the norm for Pony generations going forward- namely g5z How do you guys feel, if it is?
