Pony Corral / Did anyone else keep G4 pamphlets?
« on: October 18, 2016, 05:22:55 PM »
I know G1 had pamphlets and some people like to collect them. After learning this I'd keep the little G4 pamphlets that came with the burshables earlier in the line. They would show other items in the line. I have about six of them. Did anyone else keep them? I feel like a weirdo for doing so

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Anyone else play trading card games?
« on: October 01, 2016, 07:44:47 PM »
Just a general curiosity as it's something I've started doing more. I'm talking any kind here.

My boyfriend recently got me into Magic: The Gathering. I play with a premade blue/black deck (blessed vs cursed). I play really well with it, I have about an 80% success rate and have a lot of different strategies to work with using it. I'd like to build my own deck one day but tit's a little complicated for me. I don't play in tournaments or competitively at all. I have about four friends who play and we're slowly teaching more people.

I also just purchased some of the MLP TCG game cards. I bought an Equestrian Odysseys deck, an Absolute Discord booster pack, and a Celestial Solstice box set. I cannot wrap my head around it. My boyfriend and I attempted to learn it but we couldn't make much sense of it or test it out because we only had one deck (went and bought more that night). So if anyone here plays it.. tips would be much appreciated

The only other thing I have is Pokemon cards. I only recently started learning how to play. I collected cards as a kid, have mostly Gen 1 / gen 2 and japanese cards. I found out one of my friends plays, and he said he's help me understand it a bit better.

What do you guys play?

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Littlefoot!
« on: September 15, 2016, 12:42:52 PM »
My friend linked me to an item on varagesale (an app used to buy and sell locally via facebook) that was generically titled "large stuffed dinosaur", and to my surprise it was a plush littlefoot! He was made by Gund in 1988(?) and I think was sold exclusively at JCPenny stores. He's big! Around 17" tall and very soft. The lady only wanted $5 for him, what a steal!

Pony Corral / G1 reboot that could have been
« on: September 12, 2016, 12:11:27 PM »
I found something interesting while looking at pony art!  One of my favorite artists, Brianne Drouhard (potatofarmgirl), a storyboard artist and character designer, creator of Billie the Unicorn, Harpy Gee, director of Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld, and an animator for Nickelodeon, did some G1 pony art.. that was apparently used in a presentation to reboot the G1 series!

This tweet here claims it was used in a presentation: https://twitter.com/potatofarmgirl/status/715741785398464512
I also found an old blogspot that says she drew them in 2006 for "whatever reason" and talked a bit about her old ponies. You can check that out here: http://potatofarmgirl.blogspot.com/2009/07/ponehs.html

Check this art out!

Pony Brag Arena / Small G4 comic haul!
« on: September 06, 2016, 11:46:59 AM »
For those of you with a Hastings in your area, you know the company is liquidating and has a bunch of stuff on sale. All comics are currently 60% (with an bonus 20% off overall) so I decided to dig through the messy piles of comics for some Friendship is Magic.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The comics are:
Friendship is Magic #3, #31, #38, & #42
Friends Forever #3, #4, #6, #13, & #17
Fiendship is Magic #2

Plus some extras I picked up.

One of these I already owned but I really loved the variant cover. Others I got because they're Hastings exclusive variants, and since the company is going out of business I though they might gain a little value one day (or just be keepsake)
I rarely get the single issue comics, I used to, but then went to collecting the trade paperbacks and now I get the big omnibus volumes. I won't pass up an opportunity for cheap comics though  :)
I plan to go back and keep looking and grab as many as I can.

Godzilla! Godzilla!

I know I'm the only really big Godzilla fangirl here on the forums, but I still like the share the news. I posted about it months ago before it was released, but in July 2016, a brand new japanese Godzilla film was released.

Funimation has claimed distribution rights to the film in the US. Shin Godzilla (originally Godzilla Resurgence) will hit theaters for a one week only theatrical release in October. There will also be a special premiere for NYCC and an early theater showing in LA and NYC.

I am beyond stoked. If you haven't seen the new godzilla, here's a look at the beast:

The film was directed by Hideaki Anno, famous for the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. The soundtrack for Godzilla is also composed by the same person behind NGE's soundtrack (and let me tell you, I love the OST for this film!). The movie has been highly praised and made billions in japan (in yen that is), quickly becoming one of the highest grossing Godzilla films. This godzilla is also now the tallest on record, outranking the most recent american godzilla's height. One think I enjoyed learning is that this film not only takes allegory from the Hiroshima bombing, but also the fukushima disaster from 2011. And fear not, those who dislike rubber suits, this godzilla is all CGI. It was actually done with motion capture!

Official synopsis from Funimation:
"It’s a peaceful day in Japan when a strange fountain of water erupts in the bay, causing panic to spread among government officials. At first, they suspect only volcanic activity, but one young executive dares to wonder if it may be something different… something alive. His worst nightmare comes to life when a massive, gilled monster emerges from the deep and begins tearing through the city, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. As the government scrambles to save the citizens, a rag-tag team of volunteers cuts through a web of red tape to uncover the monster’s weakness and its mysterious ties to a foreign superpower. But time is not on their side—the greatest catastrophe to ever befall the world is about to evolve right before their very eyes."

And the official trailers:

Trailer 2
Trailer 3

What do you think? Are you interested in seeing the film? Rather wait for a DVD release? There's lots of opinions out there due to the new design and darker direction. I spoiled the whole film for myself early and I'll be getting my tickets very soon!!

Off Topic / Let's play at the Arcade!
« on: August 25, 2016, 10:35:36 PM »
Hi, my name is Becca and I'm addicted to Coin Pushers.

Do you like arcades? I do! They're one of my favorite places to go and I'm a big spender at them. I once spent over $60 trying to win a little Indominus Rex plush from a quick reflex type machine. No regrets. It's the kiddie version of gambling but you win silly trinkets instead of money.

One specific game I loved to play was a game where you caught bumblebee striped balls that were being blown into the air in a net and then dropping them in a honey pot. It's quite easy to win a lot of tickets from if you're quick yet precise. I broke the machine twice at one arcade and the guy made me stop playing, whoops.

I also like how advanced some are getting. There's a 4D horror shooter I play at Dave & Busters that vibrates, blows air in your face, and checks your pulse to see if you get scared.

What's your favorite thing to play at the Arcade? If it's "other", tell me what it is!!

So I came across this oddity at a weird retro gaming store at my local mall today..

It was just the box, it did not have the tape inside (instead it came with a normal tape of TLBT III) but the guy offered it for $4 and I'm a HUGE Land Before Time fan and thought it wasn't so bad.

But I'm curious, what exactly are these? I immediately went to ebay hoping to find it's missing tape but no luck. I did find one of the 5th film and the sing along film however, which I thought was cool!

Any movie buffs got info for me?  :)

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Little Miss Dinosaurs?
« on: May 24, 2016, 05:16:23 PM »
So I've seen a post circulating tumblr recently about a rare line of toys from the early 90's called Little Miss Dinosaur. According to the post there's not much info on them and I thought "hey, I'm part of a forum of people who like plastic toys with brushable hair, maybe someone here has seen them!"

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

According to the post they were made by the toy company TYCO in 1992 and were only around for a short time and it's likely they were only sold in Europe. I could find almost no info on them and the only lead was one toy on ebay UK of a MOC pink triceratops with blonde hair and it's card had been mostly cut off aside from where the bubble is.

It's a long shot, but has anyone seen these before? Own one? Know anything about them at all?

Pony Corral / BAB Ponies coming back!
« on: May 16, 2016, 08:58:55 AM »
I know Build A Bear has been moving on to other toy lines lately (paw patrol and care bears) but it looks like the sales went so well for their ponies that they're making a comeback!

http://www.toynews-online.biz/interviews/read/build-a-bear-s-md-roger-parry-on-the-firm-s-new-strategy-for-the-year-ahead-and-why-the-uk-market-is-a-major-contributor/046591

Direct quote for anyone who doesn't want to go through the article:
"We continue to be very strong with Star Wars and Disney Frozen, which we did at the end of last year. We are now doing Care Bears, which is going very well for us. We’re also propagating our relationship on license for My Little Pony, which continues to be very strong and popular with our younger girls’ segments. So we’re going to continue with that licence in 2016."

I can't wait to see who comes next! My fingers are crossed for Sunset Shimmer personally  ^.^

Pony Brag Arena / I caved and bought my first playset..
« on: March 10, 2016, 01:55:00 PM »
Backstory: There's a nice antique mall in the city I go to college at. The place is my home away from home, I've been going there with my grandmother for many years and now I go on my own or take a friend to browse with me. Two years ago I found two playsets and a bunch of G1's (second time I've ever found ponies). I bought every last pony but left the playsets. They've still been there the whole time and I didn't buy them because I never had room. I still don't, but today I decided I would go ahead and buy one  :)

It's the Perm Shoppe!

It's obviously damaged and incomplete. I got it for $20 so I don't think that's awful. I went through mylittlewiki to learn more about it and saw what all I was missing. I didn't recognize the pink counter on the right though, is it not for this playset? Nevermind  :P

If anyone wants to tell me more about the set or where the counter is from please feel free to share!!
