Pony Corral / How do you motivate yourself to sell ponies?
« on: February 10, 2016, 01:57:10 PM »
I have about 250 ponies that I need to sell, plus some accessories and random 80s and 90s toys, and I'm being super lazy and unmotivated about selling them. -_- I look at the imposing army of ponies (right now they're spread out like that on my floor so they're not "out of sight, out of mind") and get exhausted thinking about cleaning them, describing them, photographing them, and listing them (and then, of course, receiving payments, calculating shipping, sending them out . . .). In the past I've enjoyed selling ponies, but this just feels overwhelming; it's such a long process and I really try to be thorough, so it feels like it takes forever. Maybe I just need to suck it up! :P

Well, anyway, so I thought I'd ask for help/motivation: how do you guys get around to selling when you have ponies that need to find new homes and you really don't feel like/don't know how to dive into that huge job?

Off Topic / Anyone able to read a few Chinese episode titles? (pics)
« on: January 26, 2016, 11:42:56 AM »
My sister really loves the anime Detective Conan (known as Case Closed, here in the U.S.), and since the series is no longer being released here she usually buys (legal, government-approved, non-bootleg ^^;) Malaysian DVDs with English subtitles. We found four that she doesn't have on Ebay recently, but we can't read what episodes are included! Can anyone help us with that? We're not sure if the text is in Chinese or Japanese. She knows how to read a little Japanese but can't make out what they say. Does anyone here read in either of those languages? Can you translate these episode titles? I've posted the DVD covers below. (The episode titles are in a box in white or yellow text on the right of the covers.) Thank you so much!

Update: according to Banditpony, these are in Chinese! Anyone know what they say? . . .

Pony Corral / How do you organize/store your accessories?
« on: January 07, 2016, 06:42:16 AM »
I've been going through my accessories and getting them organized -- figuring out what belongs to who, putting like things together, etc. I sorted Pony Wear into proper sets and put playset accessories together -- Show Stable, Pretty Parlor, etc. (before, it had been somewhat of a mishmash). As I did so, I wondered how you guys keep your accessories organized. Right now I'm using Ziploc bags, as none of my accessories are on display, but I'm wondering what to do for my combs and brushes. I want to keep straight which comb/brush came with who, but it seems silly to put each in a Ziploc bag . . .

So, how do you keep your accessories organized? Not just brushes (though I'd certainly like advice on that front), but everything?

Oh -- and are there any good accessory checklists online?

In my Ebay auctions up until now, I've been using the Global Shipping Program, and I've had a significant amount of buyers message to ask if I could change the shipping options to a less expensive method. As I understand it, for most countries the GSP is pretty expensive. I'd like to switch to a better shipping option (if there is one), but I'm worried about being protected as a seller if I use normal international shipping. If I use the GSP, I'm not liable for any loss or damage after the item leaves the U.S. shipping center; but if I use my own shipping, I'm pretty sure I am. The GSP also provides a global tracking number, while if I shipped on my own a tracking number would be too expensive (pretty sure?). In the best case scenario, I'd like to use an international shipping method that's both inexpensive enough, safe for the item, and safe for the customer and me as far as not losing the package or damaging it.

Members with international Ebay experience especially, what do you do when you ship overseas? How do you make sure you're protected?

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Calling all toy experts -- what are these?
« on: January 03, 2016, 08:20:05 PM »
Here are some random pieces that I found in a pony lot I got for Christmas. Pretty sure they aren't MLP -- does anyone know what they are? I *think* the pink ribbon with Velcro might belong to the Sweetie Pops (?) dolls (the ones that were in a kneeling position and you could just pop their clothes on, hands and feet and all . . . yeah) because I had those when I was a kid. Can anyone second that? And any idea on the rest? (the pink pillow in the upper right says Galoob 1988 on it)

Pony Corral / White Pony Royal cape?
« on: January 03, 2016, 08:13:54 PM »
Was there ever an alternate Pony Royal cape? I got a group of ponies from my mom for Christmas, including a ton of accessories; the lot was from Indiana, but the cape could be from a non-U.S. location, as there was a Schooltime Pony bag in the lot and the lot looks to me like it belonged to a collector (there were lots of duplicates, more than most little girls would have).

Here are some shots of the cape alone and next to a correctly-colored magenta cape that was also in the lot. As you can see, there is one magenta spot on the back and a magenta area near the neck, but in all other places the magenta is not there. I checked the silver trim and how they were sewn and they are identical. Magenta thread was used on each. I think it's possible that this was just faded somehow, but it's strange that it's such an even fade -- even in the cracks, with the exception of the area on the neck, it's white, and then the random magenta spot is there, both on the front and back, like it bled into it. :wonder: Whatever it may be, I think it's pretty cool!

My immediate family and I opened our gifts to each other just this past Saturday. My mom had been pretty obvious about getting ponies for Sarah and I; I just didn't know what . . .

Ringlet, with lots of ringlets! :P I wanted her especially because of her wing design with the cascading stars. I also have special childhood memories of this pony; an older friend had her, and when that friend's mom babysat me while she was at school I played with her ponies, including Ringlet. (I also specifically remember her having Happyglow and baby pony shoes, which fascinated me for some reason.)

Brightglow! I love this girl. Her picture doesn't really show how pretty she is. She still glows a little, too; I tested her. ^.^ I actually helped Mom buy this one, so she wasn't a true surprise, but it was nice to see her again, lol. :) Her hair is kind of curly; I wonder if the Glow 'n Show ponies were released with curls? I have my original Starglow, and I can't remember her having curls, but it's possible.

My sister has almost completed her collection of Big Brothers. She got a lovely Quarterback and a Wig Wam with an awesome bandana that I threatened to "borrow."

My sister's pearly Baby Firefly! (almost typed "early Baby Firefly")

One of my last presents was a big box! I opened it to find one of my favorite things, a mishmash lot of ponies and especially accessories. I should have taken a picture of everything before I sorted it (quite a mess!) but I forgot . . .

Lots and lots of accessories. I think they must have come from a former collector, because I can't imagine a normal little girl having so many duplicates.

Ponies! Butterscotch is actually the only one I didn't have (my awesome swap partner, Nessa16, had already purchased me a lovely Satin 'n Lace). Butterscotch is cute because her head is glued on slightly off-kilter, so she's cocking her head.

Baby Stockings is still in her package! But help, help . . . she can't get up . . .

I love newborn nightgowns, and now I have Cuddles' blanket (two, actually) and one of the lace pieces for her buggy.

Pretty unusual -- a white Pony Royal cape. I'm going to open a thread in the Pony Corral about this one. I think it's pretty cool.

Pocket Pals, yay! The duck and kitten especially were on my wish list. And then bridles for Sundance and baby, and the cute hat from Hit the Slopes (pretty sure).

I think the blue shoes from Lights, Camera, Action are pretty awesome. It looks like the one of the UK Schooltime Ponies' bags is in the lot, too. And the pony purse! Come to think of it, the childhood friend I had earlier had this, too. Ah, memories . . .

Pony Corral / What's your pony hunting strategy?
« on: December 08, 2015, 09:11:27 PM »
So when you go out to find ponies in the wild, where do you go? Do you hit up thrift stores, or are flea markets or garage sales more your thing? Do find stuff all the time or never? How often do you go? Do you buy anything you find?

I have a flea market about a half hour away that is a pretty good place for finding ponies. One of the vendors has a booth full of toys from the 70s and 80s; her ponies tend to be expensive, though ($10 each or more). There are several cool toy booths. I've found some teeny tiny baby ponies there and a Spike from the lavender Dream Castle. I've also gone to a huge flea market even further away where I found some ponies and accessories who were comparably expensive. I go to thrift stores, but I usually don't find anything; lately I found a SS Northstar, though, which was a big surprise. Most of my thrift stores don't carry toys, strangely enough, so there's not always a lot to search through. I almost never go to garage sales; the only exceptions are when they've said on Craigslist that they'll have vintage toys or something. I don't go out pony hunting very often at all; I usually buy my ponies on Ebay, Craigslist, and the Arena. Since I primarily collect G1, that tends to be easier.

So what about you guys?

Pony Brag Arena / Finally -- Majesty!
« on: December 07, 2015, 08:02:38 PM »
This year I've been trying to find the perfect Majesty. I've had a Dream Castle version Majesty for a long time, but the poor thing has always looked a little bald and I really wanted a beautiful mail order Majesty as well. I purchased several but they were never quite what I wanted. Finally, I got a slightly dirty and tan one in a lot. I put her out for sunfading for a week and she became whiter. I was reasonably impressed. I took her inside for a cleaning and the smears of dirt came off. I was more impressed. Her tail was rough; I gave her a good conditioning. I rinsed her off and let her dry and . . .

........

now she looks like this!

I'm really really happy with her. My herd finally has a queen. (My other, DC-version Majesty will stay and in my imagination be the older her. ^.^)

Her only real flaw is this rub to her symbol. Otherwise, she's so white, with silky, silky hair. I love her dark purple eyes; they're darker than the other MO Majestys I've had.

I randomly put the crown on Mimic before I got Majesty because it just seemed fitting. Now Majesty wants it back . . . "Um . . . excuse me? That's mine . . ."

Pony Corral / Question: Perfume Puff Lavender Lace with different head?
« on: November 29, 2015, 06:31:11 PM »
I have a Lavender Lace whose head is very different from other ponies in her pose and even from other Lavender Laces. I wish the photo showed it a little better, but Blueberry Baskets is an example of how the head of most ponies in the Dancing Butterflies pose look. As you can hopefully see, Lavender Lace has a kind of chunkier head. I've had a Lavender Lace in my hands before, but I sold her on; her head wasn't like this. I've had several other Perfume Puffs, too, but their heads always seemed to be typical for their respective molds. Lavender Lace has "Made in China" on her hooves (just like my other Perfume Puffs, though I don't have any other Lavender Laces to compare her to at the moment), and the lines on her head and on her neck are lined up, so it's not just a matter of her head being turned more.

Does anyone have a Lavender Lace with this unusual head? What country were yours made in? I've looked at Ebay listings of Lavender Lace, and they all look like the normal Dancing Butterflies pose, not like this chunkier-head one. She reminds me of the Sundae Best ponies, with their recast heads.

This past Tuesday, my mom and I went to a thrift store that actually had toys to dig through. So many of the thrift stores in my area carry no toys (maybe for legal reasons?) Mom found several G4s in the bins and I found some more. Some were in sad shape (a Pinkie Pie with one side colored entirely blue ). We picked up the ponies (and creatures) below:

My mom may have bought some of the sad G4s; I just picked up this Rarity, and this G3 baby and Funko Bon Bon, who also has paint all over her that hopefully can be removed. (Any tips?) And of course, there are two G3 fakies and a 1980s Pound Puppy (who will be for sale). And a Goomba.

And then . . . G1 Northstar! Inspired by my tenacious mom, I was digging through the bins and left no bin unturned. Northstar was in the stuffed animals bin. It was so nice to find a G1 in the wild. I think the last time that happened for me was this time a year ago at a school rummage sale. She looks nice overall!

While cleaning some ponies for sale, I decided to work on my childhood Fairy Tail baby. I am not even sure what her name is; I've had her pretty much all my life and her tail has been an absolute nightmare as long as I've had her, but I've always liked her. This is her before picture:

Now she looks much prettier. ^.^

While I'm at it, here's part of my Little Pretty collection. They relax on one of my shelves most of the day, watching TV. :)

I purchased a lot of ~100 a little while ago which pretty much officially knocks me out of buying more ponies for the rest of the year. Most will be for sale, but I have some favorites that I'm keeping (this is all pre-cleaning):

I didn't know how cute Creamsicle was until I saw her in person.

Glow with pink hair and curls! Obviously I need to tame it a little. This is the Hong Kong version.

Sticky and Sniffles! Sticky is so cute . . . I had Sniffles and had intended to buy a Sticky separately, but now I think I'll keep these two; I can't separate them.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Drumroll . . . These guys actually weren't in the picture of the lot but were offered to me after I committed to buy the lot. (They weren't inexpensive, but I couldn't turn them down.) They're really amazing. They look like they were debagged by a collector, as their ribbons are all there and they are mint.

Up, Up, and Away is so happy to finally be reunited with her daughter! This picture washes out their hair, but it's actually really pink.

Pony Corral / Question: Did Baby Tiddley Winks come in a bag?
« on: November 28, 2015, 07:22:52 PM »
Did Baby Tiddley Winks come in a bag when she was released with the Lullabye Nursery? (Or is this a mail-order version, even though she has freckles?) I got this Baby Tiddley Winks in a lot and am not sure whether she's in an original bag or is just in makeshift bag for protection. You can see she has a comb, but I didn't think originally she ever came with a pink comb, and the comb looks kind of bent. Tiddley Winks inside looks mint, with very pink hair. Again, she has freckles, which I think means she's not a mail-order version.

Pony Corral / Can anyone tell me about flutter pony wings?
« on: November 23, 2015, 09:34:51 AM »
So I got these flutter pony wings in a lot and I'm curious about who they belong to. As I understand it, the tabs on the wings of the first set of flutter ponies matched their body colors -- i.e., Honeysuckle's tabs were pink, Peach Blossom's were blue, etc. Were the tabs for the second set of flutters all white?

You'll notice in the picture below that all but four of the wings have black tabs or black and white tabs; that seems to be because their past owner put black or black and white cardboard over the white part inside, possibly to keep them from breaking. Anyway, they're all white tabs inside. As you can see, there are three left-side wings and five right-side wings.

The flutters who came in the lot with them were Pink Dreams, Honeysuckle, Wingsong, and Wind Drifter. The lot had several accessories that belonged to ponies who weren't in the lot and must have gotten lost somewhere along the way, so it's possible that some of the wings below belong to flutters other than those that came with them. For that matter, there's a fifth right-side wing, so a fifth flutter pony is missing from the equation. Anyway . . . does anyone know who came with wings with white tabs?

Pony Brag Arena / Ebay and Rummage Sales
« on: November 17, 2015, 11:06:37 AM »
I always love to live vicariously through other people's brag posts, and I always assume everyone else thinks like me, so here are my latest finds for your viewing pleasure. :)

Recently I bought an interesting Ebay lot -- the fun kind where the first picture is fuzzy and doesn't show nearly everything that's in the lot. No one else bid, to my surprise, and now that it's arrived I've been sorting out the lot and figuring out what stuff is and who goes with which ribbon. (Which is both fun and super hard!)

Wide shot of the ponies in the lot

There was a flat-foot Blue Belle and a nice condition mom and baby Firefly. Lickety Split has great pink hair!
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Up, Up, and Away and Milky Way are great (faded hair on UUAA) along with Fizzy (obviously need to tame her hair!) They're wearing someone else's ribbons and I don't know who. Based on the accessories in the lot, there were more ponies originally in this childhood collection, so the ribbons could belong to anybody! :freak:
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Lovely flutters with original curls! I love them so much. There were three complete sets of flutter wings in the lot and two extra wings; they all have white tabs, but their past owner put cardboard on some of them. Did the second release flutters all have white tabs on their wings?
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Here are the flutter wings, left-side wings on the top and right-side wings on the bottom. The ones with black tabs are the ones with cardboard covering the white original tabs.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I've wanted a Tall Tales and didn't know how pretty she'd be. She has a lovely wavy mane and a spiral curl in her tail; she's also wearing someone else's ribbon. I never noticed before, but the giraffes on her symbol are dancing, lol. I *think* Spunky has her original orange ribbon; from what I can tell, that's what she came with. Sky Rocket (who turned out to be the mail-order version) could also be wearing her own ribbon, but several ponies apparently came with pink, gold-trimmed ribbons . . .
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Bright Night with poofy hair, Starglow, and Spring Song!
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Nice curly hair on Glow and Little Flitter; I knew they had faded hair, but it's a little pinker than it looks in pictures. These guys were wrapped up in the shipping foam and I almost missed them; I then looked for the third summerwing, Buzzer, but she was nowhere to be found. The seller is very nice and when he got back to me said he'd found her at the bottom of a bin -- somehow she'd been missed -- and he's shipping her to me for free all the way from Canada.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Paws and Waddles with bandanas, Baby Sweet Stuff, Bootsie or Tootsie, and Little Honeypie! Paws may be wearing his original ribbon, from what I could find online. It's super-short, so I'm not positive.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Fun accessories! Several of Baby Shady's accessories here, along with Drink 'n Wet ponies and newborn twin bassinets. Also, adorable Pocket Pals.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Pieces of the Perfume Puff Palace and Show Stable, plus a bushwoolie and Duck Soup! I've wanted Duck Soup for a long time and he (she?) is adorable. The little My Little Puppy labrador puppy was a surprise; I didn't see it in the piles in the auction photo. I happen to already have its mom, found in a thrift store long ago. :) I also forget what the pink heart thing is . . .
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

As far as the non-MLP stuff (except for the pink feeding dish in the picture, which I didn't realize was MLP at the time), I only know that I have two Sweetie Kitties, a Smooshie bird (?) cage, and a Littlest Pet Shop bird cage. Any help with ID-ing the rest would be appreciated!

------------------------------

Then, my mom and sister and I were out shopping when we were arrested by signs advertising the biannual mega church rummage sale near our house. "Let's just stop in for half an hour!" Right . . .  :P

We got there just before it started and as we were let in, we headed straight for the toy tables. I was so happy to find, lying on top of a small toys bin, an Apple Bloom! I've wanted her for a long time. Below her in the bin was Trixie, who I had just been thinking was so pretty! There were several other pony things at the sale that I don't personally collect, almost all of them G4: a lot of Equestria Girls, who disappeared quickly, and a talking Cadence and Celestia (?), and I think a playset. There were a few other loose G4 ponies and some blind bag figures (I think), but none that I wanted, except for a Lyra Heartstrings. She was in a bag of stuff and cost $1.50 or so. But was it too much for one pony . . . There was also this cardboard castle thingie that I passed over.

My mom is an official rummage sale expert and leaves no stone unturned. She was the one who opened the castle and pointed out, "There are ponies in here." They were so cute and they had another Lyra, and the whole thing was only $3; there was no question in my mind.

The castle, the ponies, and some Littlest Pet Shops in the corner (the LPS will be for sale, as I only collect the vintage ones.) The Lyra in the castle turned out to be the original release one (as you can apparently tell from her eye color and the way she's turning?) She's really pretty.

My favorites! Now I have an official G4 collection. Almost overnight my collection grew leaps and bounds and numbers about 12 (I had some at home and switched out some, etc.). :) There are definite pluses to collecting them: they're cute; it's easy to find space for them; and they're relatively easy to find in the wild or inexpensively.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

One of my unexpected finds and new favorite plushies is this red panda. So cute and fluffy!
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The rummage sale always has great deals; I got two never-opened DVDs (Glory and Legend of Zorro) and everything above for $6. My mom also gave me a G3 Starcatcher she found there. :)

So, that was long! Hope you enjoyed reading. ^.^
