Pony Corral / Nice youtube review of all MLP series :)
« on: May 13, 2016, 10:50:16 AM »
It's so hard for me to find an online review that discusses all gens of MLP and is willing to talk about the pros of each in a fair light. I was pleasantly surprised to find this short 13-minute review while cruising youtube and I thought I'd share it with all of you. :)

Price Check Archives / PC - loose G2 Silver Swirl
« on: May 05, 2016, 08:15:06 AM »
Hey guys! Anyone have any idea what Silver Swirl is going for these days?

I don't have a good camera but here is a pic of her:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

She is still pretty white and has both eye jewels. Her markings are pretty good with some rubs around the edges of her hooves and the tip of her horn. Her hair is pretty dry and needs combing. She comes with her original comb, with a bit of fraying of the gold elastic.

I have no idea at all what G2's go for, so any help would be very appreciated. :)

Pony Corral / Art Imitates Life!

This post would be much more effective if I had a better cellphone, but please bare with me.

'Phoebe and her Unicorn' is an adorable comic strip about a little modern-day girl who makes friends with a vain unicorn. I used to follow this artist many years ago when she just made webcomics.

In the bookstore I came across her latest volume with this amusing comic inside:

I'll transcribe:

In the first panel (which got cut off), Phoebe runs in to show Marigold (the unicorn) that they are making a movie of her favorite toy and cartoon, 'Pastel Unicorns.'

Phoebe: It says so right here! I can't wait to see all my favorites galloping across the screen!
Marigold: It says the movie "contains no galloping."
Marigold: Two minutes in, the unicorns become human and enroll in Popular High School.
Marigold: The title is 'Pastel Unicorns: Skinny Pretty Non-Unicorns.'
Phoebe: But... to play that I'd need to get mom and dad to buy me an entirely new set of...
Phoebe: Adults are just messing with me, aren't they?
Marigold: So are unicorns! It is just subtler.

Wanted! / Wanted: Zelf from Australia. Any Aussies here?
« on: April 14, 2016, 07:36:34 AM »
Hello toy collectable fans! :D

I'm looking for a particular Zelf character. Unfortunately this line of toys is no longer being sold in the USA. :( It's very hard being a collector of a toy line that is no longer available in your country! sigh.

The Zelfs are made by an Australia toy company, Moose Inc., and at the moment their biggest distribution is there. In Australia Zelfs are sold at: BigW, Coles, Myer, Target, TRU, ToyWorld, and Woolworth's.

(They also sell in the UK and Canada, but I believe this particular character is not found on shelves there.) I'm looking for the character Mary Go-Round, who looks like this (using a photo from online):

If anyone finds Mary, I would be happy to pay you for her and shipping to the USA! I also have a big sale thread here and I wouldn't mind trading:
http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,378097.0.html

OR if you're looking for a USA-exclusive toy (MLP or otherwise) I could pick it up for you!  :)

Please let me know if you see her. She's darling and I would really like to have her!

Hi there pony art people!

I did this a few years ago and it was very fun, so I'd like to do it again! I'm working on a story with a Romeo/Juliet feel to it, but told with horses. The two herds don't get along, but a mare and stallion from each herd meet and fall in love. The end of the story features the birth of their baby!

I don't have an idea for a design of the baby, so I thought an art contest would be the best way to get some inspiration.

Rules:
1.) This must be your own art. No recoloring of lineart from someone else! This includes G4 vector lineart.
2.) The winner will be chosen by me based on the design of the baby, not the art itself. You don't have to be an amazing artist to win. :)
3.) Any pony style is accepted: G1 through G4, or your own style!
4.) The baby should be based on the genetics of the parents and/or their families, but I am not strict on how the genetics will work. A blue mom and a red dad do not have to make a purple baby. It's all up to your imagination!
5.) The challenge is to design a baby for the characters Verd and OakenRoot. Although the mom in the story is a unicorn and the dad is a pegasus, you don't HAVE to make the baby a winged unicorn. It's totally up to you how the baby is designed. :)
6.) Deadline for entries is May 11, 2016 at midnight. One month from today!

Prizes:
-If there are less than 12 entries, one 1st place winner will be chosen. You can choose 1 item from my Sale Thread ($5 value or less)
-If there are 12 entries or more, I will chose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Each of the 3 winners can choose 1 item from my Sale Thread ($5 value or less)
-Sale Thread: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,378097.0.html

Meet the characters:
(I am horrible at art, thus I have used the PonyIsland generator to make these imagines  :P )

Verd is headstrong and brave. She never thinks things through, but she's got enough enthusiasm to carry her through the consequences of her actions. Still, she has a lot of growing up to do. Her symbol of a bird in flight represents her free spirit.

Verd's family:
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Indigo is Verd's father and the leader of the herd. He doesn't have much of a sense of humor but he appreciates his daughter's free spirit. However, he is very firm that their herd should have no interaction with other herds. His symbol is a fairly generic crown, showing that he's the leader and all.

Verd's mother is not in the story and passed away when she was born. I only included her here so you can see her basic colors.

OakenRoot is the son of two knights of his herd, both of who fell in battle when he was young. He was raised by his aunt. Oaken is a proud character who wants to follow in his parents hoofprints and become a pegasus knight. He rarely makes impulsive decisions. He greatly exemplifies the old expression "still waters run deep." His symbol is an oak tree, showing he is steady and strong.

OakenRoot's family:

RainbowMane is Oaken's aunt. She is cheerful and flighty, very unlike most pegasi. She always tells Oaken to follow his heart, especially since he usually thinks of what is best for the herd, not himself. She has a rainbow for a symbol to represent her bright personality.

OakenRoot's parents passed away when he was young. They aren't in the story but I've included their pictures so you can see their basic colors.

2.) LyraHeartsrtings
3.) Bekuno

I'm working on getting photos of most/all of this, but my phone does not take very good pictures so I'm having some trouble. In the meantime, here's descriptions and prices and please ask for any further info. :)

Off Topic / Any writers here on the Arena? For srs or just for fun? :)
« on: March 30, 2016, 07:44:15 AM »
 I'm a little shy about tooting my own horn, but a couple people here on the Arena have asked me about my writing, so I thought I would start a thread.  :satisfied:

Do we have any other passionate writers here on the Arena? Please feel free to talk about your writing in this thread! Whether you write professionally or you just love fanfics, I would love to meet fellow writers!

As for me, writing has been my passion since 3rd grade. I remember a very serious discussion with the teacher where I got in trouble because I was 'reading too much' (instead of doing my school work lol) and I was so offended that I got in trouble for reading! I told myself right there and then that someday I was going to be a writer, and I would write stories for little girls who get in trouble for 'reading too much.'

Now I look back and laugh at the righteous indignation of an eight year old girl.

As of right now I have a handful of short stories published in a local anthology series called Scribings.

Vol. 3:
http://www.amazon.com/Scribings-Metamorphosis-Jamie-Alan-Belanger-ebook/dp/B00DGS8M1W/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1459347730&sr=1-11

Vol. 4:
http://www.amazon.com/Scribings-Vol-Miscreations-Timothy-Lynch-ebook/dp/B00LNLGTSM/ref=la_B005SQ7DCY_1_6_twi_kin_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1459348574&sr=1-6

Vol. 5:
http://www.amazon.com/Scribings-Vol-Inversions-D-L-Harvey-ebook/dp/B012E0BU1Q/ref=la_B005SQ7DCY_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1459348574&sr=1-5

And here's a free ebook promoting the anthology series with one short story from each contributing author. Please download the free ebook if you're curious! It helps the sales of the other titles of the company if we get a lot of downloads :)
http://www.lostluggagestudios.com/books/EssentialGPS.php

Short stories are fun, but my real passion is writing for children. I'm working on several children's novels right now and my hope is to start shopping them around to publishing houses this year. :)

(I also worked in a publishing house for 3 years after I graduated college, so if anyone has any questions about how publishing works, I'd be happy to answer :) )

So what about you guys? I'm eager to meet new writers and start a discussion!

Off Topic / Did you hear about SeaWorld's announcement!?
« on: March 19, 2016, 09:36:11 AM »
I realize this is not an uncontroversial issue, but right now I am SO EXCITED and I have to spread the news. SeaWorld has announced they are changing their views on keeping orcas in captivity!

The current orca population will stay living at SeaWorld throughout their lives, since most of them were born in captivity and can't be returned to the wild. But SeaWorld has put a stop to all captive orca breeding, so this will be the last generation of orcas kept in captivity at SeaWorld. SeaWorld is also changing the theatrical shows, where the orcas perform tricks for the audience, and instead will be putting on educational shows to teach people about how orcas live in the wild. Their enclosures will be changed to look more natural and less like swimming pools.

There's a lot of varying opinions on keeping large sea life captive for human education and entertainment needs, but this announcement makes me, personally, SO VERY HAPPY. I'm not demonizing SeaWorld's existence. I love a lot of what they do, including wild animal rescue and rehabilitation, and educating people about sea life. But I don't believe its right to keep whales captive in small enclosures to perform shows. Whales have always been one of my favorite animals, and I am proud that SeaWorld is taking this step and recognizing that people want to see these amazing animals respected and safe. :D

Go SeaWorld!

Pony Corral / What happened to G4 Twist's hair? o.0
« on: February 29, 2016, 07:32:07 AM »
So I just opened the G4 CMC School Friends collection to admire Silver Spoon and Twist... but what the heck is going on with Twist's hair? o.0

It's not something that photographs well, but it's like her mane is a shiny burnt orange color and her tail is a matte neon orange color. The difference is really quite glaring! They don't look alike at all.

Is it just my Twist or is this some factory decision?

Soooo I'm a silly person and even though I've never purchased an ebay item mailed from Russia before, I thought it would be simple and went right ahead without doing any research beforehand!  Heh. Go me.

The seller ships worldwide, so that's not a problem. The item was purchased on Jan 25 and marked as mailed on Jan 26 but it says it's being shipped economy. Ebay says delivery is estimated between Feb 12 and March 4.

My only concern is... if the delivery does end up arriving around March 4, that puts it past the window Paypal allows for me to file a complaint. What is usual for this situation? Should I ask the seller for a refund if I get close to the end of the Paypal window, and tell them I will resend payment if the item shows up? Should I just not worry about it, because ebay will protect me even if I go outside Paypal's complaint window?

I know I'm still in the delivery time, so there's no cause for concern just yet. I'm just gathering info to be prepared ahead of time. As always, thanks for your advice, shipping experts.  :satisfied:

Arts & Crafts Corral / Any interest in a 'design-a-baby' art contest?
« on: February 05, 2016, 10:07:50 AM »
I did this once years ago and it was really fun, so I thought maybe I would see if there is interest in doing so again!

I have a MLP-inspired story I'm writing which is something of a classic Romeo/Juliet tale with a twist: the two feuding houses are two different herds of magical horses. The equine societies are forbidden to interact, but of course we have a stallion from one herd fall in love after a run in with a mare from the other herd.

The ending of the story will having the two main characters fleeing their families to live safely in the wild, and soon welcoming the arrival of a baby between them... but I haven't designed the baby yet!  :lookround:

I thought it would be fun if I did an art contest where you designed a baby based on pictures of the two parents! I would pick the winner based mainly on the design of the foal, not just your artistic talent. I love to see people's pony chara designs. :D

The prize would be your choice of one thing from my Sales List (which I will soon be updating), $5 or under. (I have a bunch of Funko Minis I'm dying to get rid of, plus many blind bags and some G1's in good/very good condition as well.)

If I have interest, I will put together an official post with rules and a deadline! (Would three weeks be long enough, or do you think it should be longer?)

If you have any questions, please ask away! :)

Wanted! / Nene Thomas ceramic carousel horses - FOUND!
« on: February 05, 2016, 07:59:01 AM »
Hey guys! I thought I would spread the word here since I'm not having much luck on ebay. I'm looking to complete my collection of ceramic carousel horses designed by fantasy couture artist Nene Thomas. This set has been retired for a while before I discovered them, so I can't order them anywhere and I'm reduced to searching through sites that sell second-hand.

I've managed to find all but the last one two. The palomino is named Phoenix Gold. Here's a photo:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And the zebra is named Moonlight Silver. Here's a photo:

If anyone sees them for sale in a second-hand store or online, I will definitely pay you handsomely for either of them! I prefer MIB but I would gladly take loose as well.  :satisfied:

Off Topic / Can I do a reading for you?
« on: January 28, 2016, 10:41:54 AM »
Hello friends--

There were a lot of changes in my life last year, and one of the big ones is that I now do some work with the life energies of the universe-- I've taken two levels of Reiki Healing Energy training, and I also work with crystals, meditation, and tarot and oracle card readings.

I'm definitely not a master in this field--in fact, I feel like I'm still a novice! But it is an interesting sphere of influence to find oneself in. I'm finding myself very happy here. ^_^

I recently got a new tarot deck that I'm learning to work with. I also have an oracle deck that I really love. (An oracle deck is similar to a tarot deck. While tarot cards are used for asking questions about your future, oracle decks are more for looking inside yourself and getting encouragement/reflections about the life choices you've made.)

In order to learn how to work with my decks a bit more, I'd like to offer a free reading to anyone who replies to this thread. :) I will take a photo of my cards as I lay them out, and interpret the reading for you.

If you're interested, just post in the thread and let me know if you'd like a tarot card reading or an oracle deck reading. If you have a specific question you'd like the tarot cards to answer about your future, post that as well. (Please note these are going to be small readings since I'm still getting my feet wet, so to speak.)

This is just for fun, but I hope it brings you guys some enlightenment! <3
