Pony Brag Arena / Deflock Herd: Finished all my pegasi!
« on: April 21, 2012, 12:51:51 PM »
I'm working on a complete herd of deflocks and I have all the ponies, in various stages of deflocking or not. But I decided to concentrate on the pegasi first, because their wings are such a pain in the butt to get all the flocking off!

So here are a couple quick group shots, mainly to show the color and symbols. Hippity Hop had to have her main re-haired and a donor tail because her "fading pink" had faded not to white but a gross yellowish tone. Wind Whistler is mine from childhood, and she looks so bright and new without all her grungy flocking! I used to pet it and pet it, never thinking what that would do to her years later.

Pony Corral / Valuable Childhood Ponies in Your Collection?
« on: April 08, 2012, 01:09:45 PM »
There was a thread a few weeks back asking who was in your childhood herd, and it got me thinking about where all the "rare" and "valuable" ponies started out, so I thought this would be a fun thread.

Did you have anyone in your childhood herd who is now considered rare or valuable? Maybe you picked out Mimic, Crumpet, or Red Roses at the store, or saved your Horseshoe Points and got Rapunzel or the Birthday Twins by mail order? Maybe you live or grew up in a country where the ponies are now sought-after Nirvanas?

If so, do you still have them? Are you kicking yourself because your mom sold them for $0.50 at a yard sale? Or did you sell them for big bucks on the current pony market? Please share stories and/or pictures.

I had Pretty Mane Scribbles and Dabble, which is weird, because other than the Baby Embers, which I desperately wanted from the cartoon, I didn't have many mail away ponies, although I certainly could have if I saved the Horseshoe Points. I don't even specifically remember wanting them, I think maybe it was something my mom sent away for and suprised me.

As you can see, Scribbles has head/body mismatch and several large cancer/age spots, as well as some yellowing, and Dabble has most of the green faded from her hair, as well as a paint scuff on her cheek, but I would never sell or upgrade them!

I had one but her scalp split, she was dry and brittle. I really don't want to bait a nice one but I need a white baby in Ember's pose so I can dye her.

PM if you have one. Thanks!

Customs / Vallejo Model Color Paint Matching- is there a resource?
« on: March 26, 2012, 01:52:25 PM »
Or do we just figure it out on our own? I am trying to match Peachy's eyes and symbols and I was wondering if anyone had a good "pony colors" chart out there for these paints? Or I'd be open to another brand but this is what I've used in the past, which has been limited to black and white for touching up eyes.

Thanks!

MLP Nirvana / Butterfly Restored
« on: March 22, 2012, 07:30:35 PM »

I really wanted a Dutch Butterfly pony. She's so unique, her colors and her pose, to be honest I like her better than the original Mommy Meadowsweet. But with her auctions ending anywhere from $100 - $250 on e-bay, I wanted to wait for her to come down.

Then I saw this poor girl on e-bay and since I am not a super picky collector and don't plan on reselling her, thought that at $20 it might be worth a try to restore her:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/150752571468?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_500wt_1168

First I gave her a bath and some of the black marks came off. The red marks took acetone, with lots of scrubbing. Also, her head had been glued on or something, so I had to carefully cut it off with a razorblade along the seam line.

While she was bald, I touched up her eyes with model paint and let that dry for a few days.

Then I rehaired her. Thanks to pinkkittywinks for identifying her hair color for me. I am glad she was not my first rehair, she was tough! Her plastic was not giving and a lot of the plug holes had to be re-poked because they were so small. But it gave me something to do in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep with my pinched nerve before my surgery.

Then I glued her head back on, and let that sit for a couple of days. I conditioned her hair and cut it using Dutch Shell Pony as kind of a guide.

I know there are differing opinions on restoring Nirvanas and even G1's at all, and while she may not be 100% the "real thing", I certainly think she turned out nicely, at least worth $20 and some Dollyhair!

Pony Corral / Have these girls had haircuts? (Pic Heavy)
« on: March 17, 2012, 08:12:53 PM »
I'm going to deflock them but I need to determine if I also need to rehair them. I'm confident that the tails are ok, but the manes look a little short, especially Crumpet's. But in some pictures that I've seen, Crumpet and Taffy appear to have shorter manes. All opinions appreciated.

Also if different angles or photos would help, let me know. I'm far from a pro photographer.

Pony Corral / Weirdly Sentimental
« on: March 04, 2012, 07:37:55 PM »
I don't know if anyone remembers, but several months ago I was desperate to track down the German Nestie babies. I did, and they are some of my favorite babies ever, I think because of the simplicity of the design. They remind me of the earlier babies like Cuddles and Tiddlywinks. Anyway.

I ended up with 2 Baby Schlummerleins. The first one I bought as a single from someone here on the arena. She was the first of the Nestie babies that I finally had in my hands and she is beautiful.

Then I bid on a lot that had all three, to get the other 2, and that involved getting an international bank transfer and translating some German and other fun stuff. I thought I'd sell the second baby Schlummerlein to recoup some of the money I spent.

But now I am attached to both of them. The one I bought here is in slightly better condition, so she would naturally be the one I would keep. Plus I love her dearly because she was the first one I finally got my hands on.

But I can't bear to separate the second one from Wurfelchen and Blubberchen. For all I know, they've been together for 20 years and it's like they belong in a set.

So now I have two Baby Schlummerleins and it looks like it's going to stay that way. Someone please explain this weird sentimentality towards a plastic toy to me, I am usually such a logical person.  :)

Edit: I can pay the buyer paypal, I just need someone in Germany for her to ship to, who can in turn ship to me.
Thanks!!

MLP Nirvana / I want to know about Peruvians.
« on: March 01, 2012, 06:19:56 AM »
These darn Nirvanas just keep growing on me and my wishlist keeps expanding! I now have my eye on Peruvian Baby Medley and possibly Baby Cotton Candy. Medley was my first pegasus pony ever when I was little and I always thought she needed a baby.

I looked at the Peruvian page on mylittlewiki and saw the pictures, I've also watched some auctions on e-bay to see about what these babies go for.

Can someone tell me what they are like? Are they hard plastic or squishy? How is their hair? Do their symbols hold up or do they bleed? Are most of them in decent condition or do their eyes, bodies, hair, etc., require a lot of restoration?

MLP Nirvana / Nightlight/Nachtlicht and a "symbol" of my frustration
« on: February 14, 2012, 11:20:43 AM »
Every pony site seems to list the small symbol version of German Rainbow pony Nightlight as being more rare and therefore higher in price.

Why is it, then, that the small symbol version seems to be all that is showing up for sale on e-bay lately? I want the large symbol one, just because of personal preference! If she's more common, then where is she!!?

MLP Nirvana / Rehaired Dutch Butterfly?
« on: February 13, 2012, 01:26:42 PM »
If I recall correctly, someone on this forum recently sold a rehaired Dutch Butterfly pony.

I can't remember who it was, but if it was you, did you do the rehairing yourself and did you order from Dollyhair? I have one that is in need of a rehair and I'm not sure which shade to order. Her hair is unlike any color I've seen on another MLP.

Thanks in advance!

Customs / Deflocking- protecting eyes and symbols
« on: February 11, 2012, 01:11:31 PM »
Well it looks like I'm stuck at home on FMLA again, this time with a herniated disk, so I thought it would be a great time to catch up on my deflocking.

I have read every tutorial out there, yet some of my early deflocks I still managed to smear or remove eyes, blush, or symbols. I used alcohol and acetone. Especially around the eyes and blush, it is so hard to get all the flocking and glue without going over the paint.

Any advice would be appreciated as to what you do to get your best looking deflocks with eyes, symbols, and blush intact.

I do have Jasco, and I've only tried it once on a little bit of stubborn flocking, so I don't know if it is safe for paint either.

Thanks!

Pony Brag Arena / I finished my G1 US Want List!
« on: February 04, 2012, 03:20:31 PM »
Today I got three ponies in the mail that I bought from Napper: TAF Munchy, MGR Diamond Dreams, and MGR Sparkler. This finishes my US want list. It is by no means the entire US collection, just the ones I like.

Now I am down to some Euros, a Macau, and some Argie babies on my G1 want list. Unless I find more ponies to want!
