Mexican My Little Ponies

This Article was written and compiled by Shelti and Scarlet with help from diana_arcuri and CuteyStorm

I am going to quote some information in this article from my friend, Peppermint Truly's web site "Mexico Pony Paradise". Some of the ponies she has listed on her web site (with no pictures just descriptions) may exist or the may not, and until they step forward into view they are only speculation.

I strongly suggest you visit Mexico Pony Paradise for pictures of Mexico ponies and more information. There is quite a collection of pictures of Mexico ponies and variants at this site. At the time of writing this article Peppermint Truly was not available for technical advice about Mexico ponies, but she is truly the expert and spent a lot of time putting her website Mexico Pony Paradise together.

Lily Ledy and Auriken: Two producers

I want to also Thank Scarlet. She has supplied information for this article and also provided ponies and information to Peppermint Truly which were used on the Mexico Pony Paradise web page, and I consider her our resident Mexico pony expert.

This information was supplied by her, and makes a lot of sense:

\"Lily Ledy was the first Mexican brand that was working under license of some European brands that gave them permission to manufacture certain toys in Mexico. That was from 1982-1984. There were many orders from people that wanted to have Lily Ledy toys but there were not enough toys being produced to deliver. Brand Pypsa tried to rescue it and bought Lily Ledy but couldn't afford the costs. Auriken tried the same thing and bought the rights of Lily Ledy to continue manufacturing toys including the mould ponies but they were not given permission to use the stamp / seal made in Mexico. They could not afford to continue making the toy either and finally Hasbro bought the rights of all of that chain of little brands back. Hasbro decided they were only going to only manufacture their toy brands in China and Hong Kong because it was more cost effective then to have each Country making toys for their own market and in their own packaging. It made it much easier for Hasbro to control their products by doing so.\"

There were two Makers of My Little Ponies in Mexico in the 1980's, both licensed by Hasbro.

The first Company was Lily Ledy which only produced the first set of Collector Ponies: Blue Belle, Cotton Candy, Blossom, Snuzzle, Butterscotch, Minty plus Peachy and Lemon drop. But they were produced in two sets, flat feet and concaved feet, with very different body styles for both sets. Lily Ledy clearly marked the feet of the ponies they produced with their stamps. They also produced other popular toys from the 1980's such as Strawberry Shortcake, Star Wars, Cabbage Patch Kids, Care Bears, G.I. Joe, Spiderman, and others

Auriken which was a large Company making toys for several other brands, took over making MY Little Pony when the Lily Ledy Factory burned down. They were the major maker of almost all of the My Little Ponies that were released in Mexico including another set of collector pose ponies.

According to Mexico Pony Paradise:

\"Auriken also chose to import several ponies. They imported ponies and translated the boxes and cards to Spanish, printing their logo on them. It is believed they did this because of the limited amount of ponies they were producing. Since there was such a high demand, it was cheaper for them to produce small amounts of ponies and import the rest. This also allowed them to offer ponies with release dates closer to US release dates.\"

Mexican Features: Feet

There are several versions of Mexico Ponies Feet where the collector poses Mexico pony is concerned.

Lily Ledy Con Caved Feet, Lily Ledy Flat Feet and Auriken Flat feet

I also found a picture of an Auriken Cotton Candy with small con caves in the back feet.

I would like to thank exin_goblin (from eBay) for permission to use this picture

The Lily Ledy ponies, whether the concaved version or the flat foot version are marked with writing. They are marked Mexico with a very distinct stamp on the left front foot bottom. They are stamped Lily Ledy on the right front foot bottom.

The Auriken ponies with flat feet have a very distinct look. Their flat feet are somewhat splayed out like the foot of an elephant and even if the Lily Ledy pony had no stamp it would not be confused for an Auriken pony. Note the angle and shape of the feet patterns are also very different between all 3 mould types.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Auriken produced their set of Collector pose ponies with flat feet, but as can be seen with the Cotton Candy pony, not quite true and looking at the later Auriken produced ponies: Prince ponies, Rainbow, Sundae Best, Earth ponies and others, the feet still have no writing on them and they can be concaved or a mix of both. Even the same pony can have a variation of the feet as in the Perfume Puff parlour pony (shown below).

My first thought about the feet was, on the ground flat, raised con caved, but as seen by these pictures of like body moulds, that is not a true assumption.

It does seem the baby ponies and twins produced by Auriken all have con caved feet.

The feet were not the only difference between the mould styles, even within the Lily Ledy Company. Lily Ledy besides making the collector pose ponies with flat and concaved feet, also made different body configurations of the collector pose ponies. One mould style, the con caved foot Lily Ledy, the pony's front legs are shorter, which gives her a tipsy appearance and she looks to be standing on her front toes. And yet the Lily Ledy Flat Foot pony is the same body size and style as the normal US version Collector Pose pony and stands very squarely. The body material is a bit courser to the feel (heavier in make-up), but still has a semi slick appearance to it.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Mexican Features: Body

The Auriken collector pose pony on the other hand fits right in between the two Lily Ledy body styles in size. The body material is much softer and has a slick feel to the finish, much like the ponies produced in Brazil. This is not just the case with the collector pose ponies, but all the Auriken ponies.

Mexico Pony Paradise Regarding Mexico Pony Material Characteristics

\"Their plastic is softer, most of the times it's squishier around their tummies and harder at their feet. It doesn't have a high quality, so they often get \"wrinkles\" under their bellies. However, for certain ponies (those in Skydancer's pose), their plastic seems to be harder and of different texture.\"

Mexican Features: Eyes

The eyes are also different between the two manufactures. The Lily Ledy eyes are large with a heavy flat paint look to them, with dark upper eye liner which extends slightly past the outer edge of the eye. They have two upper lashes and two lower lashes.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The Auriken pony's eyes are smaller and have a shiny paint look to them. At least in the collector pose mould, there is a heavier eye liner along the bottom part of the eye that sweeps out towards the outer edge. The shape of the eye lash seems to have been up to the talent of the person painting them on. From the varied eye and liner formation, it's pretty clear the actual eyes were stamped with the fine touches being hand done. The white dot within the black also can vary in size and location within the eye.

The Mexico Pony Paradise web site describes the collector pose eyes:

\"For collector ponies their eyes show stronger lines, and their left eye is distinctively larger than their right one. (This applies for all versions of collector ponies except Lily Ledy Flat Feet Ponies).\"

I found this not always the case, my Auriken flat foot bluebell has the left eye larger than the right eye, but my Auriken flat foot Minty, both eyes are the same size, small. My con caved foot Lily Ledy Minty, both eyes are also the same size. But the uncommon sized left eye is a clear indicator of a pony being from Mexico.

Mexico Features: Heads and Hair

Lily Ledy also glued the heads on to their ponies Auriken did not. I have found the con caved version Collector pose ponies have the line-up marks on the front of the neck. The flat footed version does not. The Auriken pony also has the line-up marks on the front of the neck. The heads of the Lily Ledy and Auriken collector pose ponies seem to be smaller appearing at the neck line then the body side of the neck line, leaving a ridge appearance with the body appearing larger than the head.

Hair of the Mexico ponies varies as to texture. It is also prone to fading and frizzes easily. This may be due to the materials which were available for manufacturing at the time and why the hair varies so much. The hair is usually very long, both the mane and tail and they have long forelocks/bangs.

The mane is sown in two rows, except in the case of the Prince ponies which have 3 rows on top. The tails are held in place with a clamped over piece of metal with a pull string in the centre or a large Lead washer. This was used to pull the tail into the body cavity and then the metal was clamped to keep the tail from being pulled back out. The clamped over washer looks much the same as the washers used to keep Italian ponies tails in place. I found in checking my own Collector pose ponies, both Lily Ledy and Auriken collector pose have a heavy lead washer. Of course lead is something which causes health problems so please remember this if handling or disposing of such a washer. It does not cause tail rust like so many other Collector pose ponies suffer from.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Lily Ledy Minty, Auriken Prince Pony

I do not have other versions of ponies, other than my prince ponies (all of which have the metal clamp) or the collector pose ponies to compare other methods of securing the tail. My one set of twins (rattles and tattles) also have the clamped over metal with the pull string. These clamp overs can cause rusting of the hair. It may be the Lead washers Auriken used at some point became illegal to use because of health issues and they switched over to the clamp over method.

The Mexico Pony Paradise web site describes the tails this way:

\"Their tails are usually held with some sort of cord or string. It usually even pokes out of their tail holes. There are certain ponies that have their tails held with some sort of wax\"

Variations to Mexico Ponies and additional ponies

There are a number of variations in colour, symbols and hair within the Mexico Ponies made by Auriken. The Sundae Best Ponies and Prince ponies are two good examples of Variants in colour and style. Because there are so many variations as far as symbol size, and I think there are 3 different versions along of Skydancer, I once again suggest using the Mexico Pony Paradise web site as a good starting point and reference guide to some of these variations.

diana_arcuri had some information on accessories which came with twin ponies \"Ohhh and also, a little detail I found by chance today, I remember that Newborn twins had their accessories. By looking at Dream Valley's page, if you look at Year 5 ponies, scroll down to Newborn twins and their photos. I can tell you that I found a piece of the old accessories that came with my ponies, if you look at the pics of Dibbles and Nibbles, you see them in a canopy with pink \"bassinet\" I have a yellow bassinet. Maybe, as stated in the green letters there, it's a different accessories version. I don't remember the colour of the canopy (I believe that it was aqua) I believe that Rattles and Tattles stroller is the same colour as stated there.\"

She also remembers Loving family Ponies were sold in a store in Mexico.

\"I remember that when I was little, there were loving families sold in Mexico, I'm not sure about them, or the boxes where they came. But I do remember that they came all together in one box. I saw a box of Apple Delight family in a store when I was little, I wanted so much those ponies, but I could never get them. It was later when I saw pictures of MIP family ponies where I knew that in other places they weren't sold as one-box sets. I could be wrong... but this is a strong childhood memory I have and looking at how some ponies were brought and placed in boxes here in Mexico, then it's something that could be valid.\"

It's been pretty well determined Big Brother Ponies were never made or released in Mexico. The Prince Ponies, which were variants of their US Princess Pony counterparts, are as close as we get to BB ponies in Mexico. The back of the Box for Mexico Prince Ruby shows the entire set of 2nd Release Princess ponies, but only the 3 Prince Ponies which were released in Mexico have writing on the balloons above them: Prince Emerald (Moondust), Prince Ruby (Dawn) and Prince Sapphire (Misty)

Mexico Baby Sea Ponies

Acuarela / Watercolor seem to be the only version of Baby Sea Pony to date which have been found.

diana_arcuri related in a Nirvana thread about Mexico Baby Sea Ponies \"I received 2 Seaponies when I was little. I have that one (referring to the pinkish Salty/Misty version) and the yellow one. Looking at the back card below, the yellow Mexico Water Colour sea baby pony would be Spray. This would be Foamy according to MOC comparison with pony colour and float Thank you Sea Pony Utopia web site for a Foamy comparison picture.\"

The following information was supplied for this article in an email with pictures of her ponies.

\"What I do remember is that my yellow sea pony came with a blue frog (?) floater. By looking at the images of sea ponies fromwww.mylittleponycollector.com, it's the same description... It matches Foamy's description, including the floater. Also, Misty's description matches, including the purple duck floater. My purple duck floater and it has a mark that says 1984 HASBRO INC. on the bottom. What I can say is that the plastic never seemed as bright as in the photo included on the MLP collector's website... My pony was always a pale colour and Misty is made of a harder plastic than Foamy.
Something that I have to say, my parents gave me this ponies when I was little, I'm sure they came in a box. But they both have markings.

Misty has a mark that says \"1984HASBRO\"

and Foamy has an (ALMOST UNREADABLE) mark \"1986HASBRO\"

There is no Country initial noted on either one of her ponies.

Thank you to CuteyStorm who supplied some of the Mexico Baby sea pony pictures and following information:

Baby sea ponies have no country of origin on the bottoms of them (at least none of the ones i'm looking at). Her hair seems different in addition to her float. i don't have my American one's comb so i don't know the difference there. But her ribbon is a different colour and it's a lot thicker (width wise) than an American ribbon.

\"I'm sure the Mexican sea ponies have different shape on hair and body I don't think it's made in china and then came here and used the box, I have the orange one and a green one with floats, there's no stamp on bottom or tail.\"

There are 3 Water Colour Baby Sea Ponies listed and named on the Mexico back card as seen in the picture. So as we see with the Mexico Prince Ponies, only 3 Baby Sea ponies can be expected to be found which were made by Auriken for the Mexican market. They are Salty, Spray and Surfy. They appear much like the other Water Colour babies made, except for slight differences as mentioned above by people who have them in their collections. And as seen in the pictures the hair appears to be much longer then their other Country counterparts. They also appear to have no Country stamped on the bottom of the curl of the tail.

As you can see the Mexico Pony is a Very worthy Pony to Collect. Because the ponies have hand painted on Symbols there is a wide range of differences to look for. Not only can a collector look for Variations of the same pony, but variations in the make-up of the eyes and symbol size or perhaps even the number of symbols a pony may have.

The face was different on Lily Ledy ponies; they had a cuter face than Auriken.

There is a picture of Peachy in the Arena Gallery, but no indication of who she was made by. I do have a Flat foot Lily Ledy Minty in my personal collection so we can assume that Lily Ledy made Stamped Flat feet of at least the Big 6 also.

Hi ponies,

What is it that appeals to you about Nirvana ponies?

I have been wondering myself what attracted me to them. I guess it was more of the feeling they gave me when I saw them, it is hard to describe. I guess it is similar to the feeling you get when you see a new pony in the shops as a child and it makes you feel excited  ^.^

(Minty courtesy of GYPSYWILDFLOWER - thanks!)

One of the more curious additions to the My Little Pony universe can be found in the form of what have affectionately been named ‘Piggy Ponies’. These strangely adorable ponies are unique in the world of variants and often provoke a love them or hate them response.

For a long time, they were thought to be bizarre fakies based on the early collector pose issue, simply because they looked nothing like any other MLP we knew about. Many got left behind at car boot sales because of this! However, then came the discovery of a number of Piggy Ponies mint on card, thus proving that they actually were licensed. Shelti was the first collector in the US community to own a MOC Piggy pony. The name ‘Piggy Ponies’ is partly a throwback to the time when they were more a source of amusement, and it relates to the unusual shape of their body, which makes them look chubby, and their little hooves.

What makes them so special?

Pretty much everything! Piggy ponies are the only adult ponies to have ‘beddy-bye eye’, similar to the babies of the normal issue. Most have painted eyeliner and eyelashes as well as the “real” eyelashes. They have a very different body shape from any other pony, which is much more squishy compared to a regular pony.

(Thanks to Ahrian for Snuzzle, Escarchita for Lemondrop's eye and leaper for Cotton Candy's eye)

Piggy ponies have completely smooth flat feet with no markings on them. Their hooves are a distinct shape.

(Thanks to leaper for both pictures of the feet)

Piggy ponies have quite long hair, which is generally silky and the strands are thicker compared to regular pony hair. They are prone to loosing the hair at the bottom of their manes.

While some of the piggy ponies are clearly based on existing collector pose ponies (e.g. Cotton Candy and Snuzzle), others simply borrow the colour scheme (e.g. orange pony with yellow hair and red fireworks symbol/Rayito) or symbol (e.g. pale blue pony with yellow hair, but Bluebell’s symbol/Cielete), while others seem to bear even less resemblance to any known pony (e.g. white pony with blue hair and blue clouds symbol/Algodoncete).

Mi Pequeño Pony: What ponies are there?

There were two releases of the piggy ponies, one by Breker and another by MB/Milton Bradley.

Brekar Ponies: 6 characters resembling the “original six”

Azul Celeste (blue hair) = translates as “Sky Blue”

Melocoton (orange butterflies) = translates as “Peach”

Menta (silver hair) = translates as “Mint”

Rosado (sugar cube symbols) translates as “Pinkish or Rosy” (thank you Perikoala)

Perla = translates as “Pearl” (as in the jewel)

Orchidea (lilac body)

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

(Picture by Escarchita)

MB Ponies: 12 characters, some based on the original six and some are unique

Fresita (hot pink body, white hair, apple or strawberry type symbol) = from Fresa, which is Spanish for strawberry.

Algodoncete (white body, blue hair, cloud type symbol) = translates as "Little Cotton", the ete at the end an affectionate suffix, so "Fluffy Clouds" could be another translation (thank you Perikoala)

Rayito (orange body, yellow hair, star burst type symbol) = translates as Little Bolt/Ray (thank you Perikoala)

Blossom (pink body, blue hair, flower type symbol)

Cielete (blue/grey body, yellow hair, star symbol) = translates as Celestial

Perla (peach body, white hair, spot or hoop symbol) = translates as “Pearl” (as in the jewel)

Pinky (pink, pink hair and spot symbol)

Butterscotch (yellow with golden hair and blue butterfly symbols)

Manzanita (green with clover symbol and golden brown hair) = name translates as “Little Apple” however, in Botany the term Manzanita is a common name for many species of the genus Arctostaphylos.

Orchidea = (pink body, lilac hair and flower symbol)

Loly Pop = (grey with pink hair and pink hearts symbol)

Suspiro (yellow with lilac hair and drop symbols) = name has several translations; “sigh” as into to emit a long, deep audible breath expressing sadness, relief, tiredness, or similar, meringue or with no direct translation as a colloquial phrase roughly meaning “in an instant” such as the “in the blink of an eye” or “in a flash”

Each of the above named MB ponies has *at least* two variants. The variations could be as follows: the symbols may be reversed, at an angel, larger or smaller, thicker or thinner or have a larger or lesser number of components.

Where were they sold?

Piggy ponies seem to have been sold only in Spain, however, there are reasonable numbers to be found across Europe, perhaps due to Spain’s popularity as a holiday destination. This limited release has however resulted in them being hard to find on the secondary market, even in Spain, and they can command a high price.

How were they sold?

They were sold on cards that on the front appear to be very similar to those used in other countries for some of the early ponies.

The one exception to this is the Piggy Pony resembling Peachy, who was sold with early issues of the Spanish Grooming Parlour or Establo de Belleza (translates as Beauty Stable, thank you Perikoala)

(Thanks to leaper for the MOC pic!)

Piggy Pony Wear or Conjuntos Para Vestir

There were four outfits sold specifically for the piggy ponies, there were;
Disco = resembles “Pageant Queen”
Gala Real “Best or Finest Clothes = resembles “Royal Pony”
Patinaje “Skating” = resembles “Great Skates”
Dulces Suenos “Sweet Dreams” = resembles “Sweet Dreams”.

What is unique is the shoes were specially designed for the feet of Piggy Ponies.

How much do they cost?

It does really depend on which piggy pony it is, but if you get a loose one for less than $100, you’ve definitely got a bargain! Generally expect to pay around $200-300. The harder to find piggy ponies range in price from $300-$600 depending on condition.

There are MOC Piggy ponies around, but they are even harder to acquire than loose ones, so expect to pay a *minimum* of $300 and most likely higher than that.

Trivia

- There are two unknown piggies; one resembles Azul Celeste, but has a darker blue body and hair. The second resembles Perla (pale pink body and white hair) and has white symbols matching Orchidea.
- The factory was based in Valencia
- Piggy Ponies were first made in 1983
- Piggy ponies are the only adults released to have ‘beddy-bye eyes’.
- All piggy ponies came with a plain comb and a ribbon, much like the early collector pose ponies elsewhere

My special thanks to Escarchita and DreamBeauty for their help with information, and to leaper, GYPSYWILDFLOWER, Escarchita, Ahrian and EtoileBleue for the generous use of their wonderful pictures! If you find any mistakes in this piece, please let me know so I can correct them

So go ahead and show of your piggy ponies, or if you're like me and aren't lucky enough to have one, just tell us which is your favorite!

MLPArena Nirvana Spotlight: Greek Ponies by pinkkittywinks and Shaz

In the 1980’s Habsro sold the licence to produce My Little Pony to El Greco, who are based in Greece. The ponies that were sold included; collectors pose Earth ponies, babies, the Unicorn and Pegasus set, the first release “Rainbow” set, as well as two special “holiday” ponies. A wide variety of pony wear was also made and sold.

Greek ponies are mainly found in Greece, but crop up else were in Europe as Greece is a popular holiday destination.

The Earth Ponies (names translated by Shaz)

Peachy and Lemondrop were sold boxed, as part of the collectors pose “set” as well as with the Show Stable and Grooming Parlor the playsets.

Blossom = Lily.
Blue Belle = Elsê.
Bow Tie = Xionoyla , meaning "snowball". This is also the Greek name for Snow White.
Minty = Chloê, "grass" or "lawn". From an Ancient Greek word meaning a new green shoot growing in the spring.
Butterscotch = Lemonitsa, "lemongrass".
Cotton Candy = Rozalin - from roz meaning "pink".
Lemon Drop = Zizi.
Peachy = Melenia, meaning "honeyed" or "sugary".

Unicorns and Pegasus = Pony Star : Star Ponies (translated by Shaz)
Glory = Augerinos, the Morning Star. Since in Greek folklore Augerinos is a boy who is turned into a star, Glory is probably meant to be male: that's perhaps why she goes to the party as the companion of 'coquettish' Melody!
Sunbeam = Chryssomallousa, "golden hair"
Firefly = Pêgasos, "Pegasus"
Moondancer = Prigkipopula, "Princess"
Melody = Melodia (pretty obvious)
Twilight = Astrophengia, "starlight"

Rainbow Ponies = Paramythi Ponies : Fairytale Ponies (translated by Shaz)
The Rainbow Ponies were called as “Paramythi Ponies”, Paramythi translates to the word fairytale.
Starshine = Neraida, "fairy"
Skydancer = Astrapê, "lightning"
Windy = Anemos, "wind" or "air" (male)
Moonstone = Ouranos, "heaven" or "sky" (male)
Sunlight = Anatolê, "sunrise"
Parasol = Protobrochi, "first rain of autumn" (gender neutral)

Back Card Story of Fairytale and Star Ponies: translated by Shaz

This story was used on both the Fairy Tale and Star ponies backcard. The story features a lot of Greek cultural references, such as sayings and traditions.

Once upon a time, in the fairytale land of PONY, there lived in the Castle of the Heavens, the Princess [Moondancer] with her little dragon.
The Castle of the Heavens was the colour of roses while the turrets were the deep blue of a spring sky.
When the Princess threw a party for her Name Day, the little dragon gave the order to open all the gates of the castle, to lower the drawbridge and let the trumpets announce the great celebration. Immediately, the joyous news spread to the ends of the earth. And then, all the Fairytale Ponies and the Pony Stars, looking their best, with their long hair beautifully combed, stunning in their beauty and grace, came to the Castle of the Heavens to honour the Princess.
The Star Ponies adorned the festivities with their dazzling beauty, while the unparalleled grace of the Fairytale Ponies made it all the more brilliant.
Sunbeam wore the sun in her hair, Twilight was adorned by stars, and Firefly came to the party with her beautiful blue mane streaming as she flew through the clouds.
Melody, the most coquettish of the Pony Stars, wore her beautiful notes as she went to the party with Glory, shining with grace and beauty.
Skydancer, the fastest of all the ponies, always reached the party first, unlike Parasol, who was always late.
Sunlight came with her excellent colours to brighten the party, while Starshine, together with Windy, brought to the celebrations happiness and high spirits.

Some notes:
1) Prigkipopula, meaning 'princess', is Moondancer's Greek name, implying that Moondancer is the resident of the castle. Majesty, you've been usurped!
2) The castle's name is Kastro tou Ouranou. Ouranou comes from Ouranos, meaning heaven or sky. So Castle of Heaven, Sky Castle....whatever, we all know it's Dream Castle they're talking about!
3) Melody is said to be "naziara", which means she is full of affectation, putting on a cutesy act, something like that. It sounds a bit unkind! 'Coquettish' seemed the kindest translation I could come up with.
4) Starshine and Windy actually bring three things to the party, eutuchia (happiness, contentment; comes from an Ancient Greek word meaning good luck), kephi (merriment, high spirits, good humour) and drosia (coolness, dewiness - I think implying that Windy brings a cool breeze? I wasn't sure how to translate this so as not to ruin the flow of the English).
5) The word translated as party is "giortê", meaning celebration, feast day, festival, that sort of thing.
6) Name Day: According to Greek Orthodox tradition, every day of the year is dedicated to a Christian saint or martyr, if you are named after a Saint or Martyr, you celebrate this day in a similar fashion to your birthday.

Baby Ponies.

 Thank you Aeithales

None of the babies were officially named, which fits in with Greek tradition, as babies aren't named before their christening. According to a Greek MLP community member, Greek babies behave like newborns and being so young, they won’t be named yet. In the Greek language the word baby is a neutral, and it can refer to a either female or male. Unlike the US the pony “Family” of Mums, Aunts, cousins and friends, this is clearly illustrated in the Baby Pony backcard story.

Although the baby ponies weren't officially named, collectors identify them by the names of their standard counterparts or adults they are the babies of. There can be several colour variations of some of the babies.

Baby Blossom
Baby Peachy
Baby Cotton
Baby Lemon Drop
Baby Bowtie
Baby Glory
Baby Moondancer
Baby Bluebelle
Baby Butterscotch
Baby Firefly
Baby Medley
Baby Minty
Baby Adara (This baby is considered a variant of Baby Cuddles as she has a rattle for a symbol. The name Baby Adara given to the white version of  Greek “Baby Cuddles” by a member of the community. Adara translates to Greek for mist/fog or commotion and this name has since been used to refer to all the version of this Baby Pony)

Baby Pony Back Card Story: Translated by Shaz

Dusk had begun to fall in the forest as all the My Little Ponies gathered at the Stable Home to celebrate the first birthday of the Baby Pony.
There were multicoloured balloons all through the house and outside on the grass, all for the birthday party of the Baby Pony with the pretty notes.
The Baby Pony bounced in and out, scattering balloons and flying up high with her mummy. Suddenly, she saw her aunts and cousins - all the other baby ponies and their mummies - popping out from the beautiful multicoloured balloons. The Baby Pony bounced excitedly next to all the other Baby Ponies.
Then she opened her gifts and her surprised eyes saw the beautiful sunshade of the wonderful Baby Buggy. Her aunt gave her a pretty comb and two colourful ribbons for her mother to tie bows in her beautiful mane and long tail.
Later all the My Little Ponies sat down together. The Baby Ponies sat on the grass and played with the balloons.
The time passed and the Baby Ponies needed to sleep. So their mothers, after feeding them with their bottles, put them in the beautiful Baby Buggy and in a little while they were sleeping, and had the most beautiful dreams.

Some notes:
1) Staulo-Spitaki is the name given to the ponies' home. Staulo I think means a stable. Spitaki is a sort of cute way of saying "home", and is used in a Greek version of the phrase "home sweet home". Staulo-Spitaki was the name given to the Greek release of the Show Stable.
2) The Baby Pony is described as having "pio charoumene nota", "the most happy notes" - thus implying that the story is about Baby Medley. I really struggled to find a way to translate this that made sense! If only El Greco had given the baby ponies names instead of calling them all Baby Pony.
3) Pony Kartosaki, literally "pony pushcart", is the Greek name for the Baby Buggy.

The baby ponies were sold with a playpen (which is quite different to the US release play pen), cradle, blanket, pillow, bottle (it's tipped with white paint to give the appearance of milk on the tip), a BABY necklace, ribbon, nappy, and brush. Many of the accessories sold with the baby ponies, such as the buggy, crib, playpen and such were sold with other toy lines made by El Greco. There is no way to tell if an accessory was “MLP” or not, unless it is boxed.

El Greco also sold babies with the Baby carriage (available in pink and blue). The box art and pictures show Baby Cuddles however, there was no way of knowing which baby would actually be inside.

The Grooming Parlor (with Peachy), the Baby Buggy (with a radonom Baby pony), and the Show Stable (with Lemondrop) were all sold in Greece, along with a Greek version of the carry case.

The Easter ponies were not officially named by El Greco. Their names have been given to them by collectors.

LadyBird/LadyBug = Paschalitsa
The name Ladybird was given to her by Taffeta. Paschalitsa is the Greek word for ladybird and translates to "Little Easter", however it could also be interpreted as "Child of Easter"

Easter Candle pony = Lambaditsa
Her name was given to her by the collecting community. Her symbol is a wreath with Lambada candles. These candles are often given as a gift and burned at Easter as part of the Greek Orthodox tradition. In the early days she was referred to as Greek Birthday pony or Happy Birthday since her symbol was wrongly mistaken to be a cake with candles on. This was not helped by the fact her symbols are prone to fading quite badly.

Both ponies were packaged and sold in giant red Easter eggs. The red egg is symbolic in Greek Orthodox tradition.

Identifying your Greek Pony

There are a few characteristics common to Greek ponies:

• They have soft bodies, loose heads and have vanilla or baby powder type scent.

• Greek ponies have thick, black, eye liner with a thick line around the pupil, this is sometimes referred to as “Egyptian Style” by collectors. Greece is only country to have brown eyed ponies including; adult and baby Butterscotch, adult and baby Lemondrop & baby, and yellow Baby Medley.

• The Collectors pose ponies, Easter ponies and babies all have completely blank feet, without any stamps on them at all. Some ponies may have a faint remnant of the "Hasbro", “Hong Kong” or "Pat. Pend." stamp on their hooves, leftover from the molds they were created in.

• The Star or Fairytale ponies have a single Greek letter stamped under their feet, presumably denoting poses/molds. These poses are marked with the following Greek Letters:

Shy Pose Earth - Α (alpha)

Proud Pose Uni - Β (beta)

Walking Pose Uni - Γ (gamma)

Pegasus - Δ (delta)

• The Earth ponies and Easter ponies have a double row forelock, however the babies, Star, and Fairytale ponies do not have a forelock.

Other things worth note

Greek ponies are usually in great condition, they don’t suffer from mold or age spots like some of their Hong Kong or China counter parts.

There are a few flaws you might find on your Greek pony including: missing hair at the bottom of the mane where is wasn’t finished off properly or bleeding symbols. The colour which is most prone to bleeding is red/orange. It is quite hard (but not impossible) to find Peachy, Bowtie, Butterscotch and Lambaditsa with well defined, bright symbols..

There are variants of variants! For example Moonstone can be found with blue eyes or purple eyes. There are varying shades of the same pony, for example; Twilight in proud pose is a bright orange, while walking pose is a paler shade. Some variants have flipped symbols, such as walking pose vs. proud pose Moondancer.

Greek Pony Wear.
A prolific amount of pony wear was made by El Greco. There are at least two versions of each outfit. The colour of the outfit may vary along with the pattern of the fabric used. The same fabrics were also used in other toy lines such a Bibi-bo Fashion doll line.
The outfits are loosely based on the standard release outfits, including Tennis Fun or  Pony Workout, where as some are unique such as “Silver Girl”.

There are two versions of the Great Skates outfit. One contains roller skates with a soft top, like the regular release, but the other contains regular, white, pony shoes with roller skates glued onto the sole of them (see image below)!

Rumors, Myths, & Legends
According to a former El Greco distributor, El Greco was making and exporting ponies outside of what they produced under Hasbro license. As Hasbro began to catch on, El Greco burned their factory to the ground, rather than be discovered, and settled for the insurance money. The other factory closed soon after. This exportation of ponies to other countries, particularly Scandinavian countries, coincides with the fact that they are more prevalently found there. The distributor estimated 2000 earth ponies and 6000 star and fairytale ponies a month were produced outside of Hasbro's knowledge. That's 96,000 bootleg ponies a year!!!

Hi ponies,

I have been commissioned to make a couple of special Munchy customs ^.^ I have never made anything Munchy before!

Please can anyone tell me which ponies have the same or very similar body colour to Munchy? I need to do a fully body repaint. I don't own Munchy and it is quite hard to match body colours via online images  :work: :art:
