Pony Corral / Will G4s drop in price after the hype?
« on: March 01, 2019, 06:35:25 PM »
Not sure when to buy Star Swirl. I remember forelock ponies and fashion style AJ were sought after, but nowadays not as much. Hoping it's like that with some G4s. I know they're pretty limited with release but $100+ for a baby pony (Silver Spoon specifically) is absurd. I don't want to spend more than $50 for a G4, but I don't want to spend over $100 if the rarity increases over time.

For an example I own, I bought the Sweet Apple Barn in 2011 at Toys R Us for $15. For a while, the prices on eBay for this set were in the $50s-70s. Now you can get it for around $30...

Wanted! / Ragamuffin's Wish List
« on: February 25, 2019, 09:05:58 AM »
I've seen everyone else make a wish list on here so I thought I'd join in. I'm not looking to buy anything at the moment but I'll probably bump whenever I'm in the buying mood. I've actually acquired a lot of my most wanted ponies recently so I'm fairly satisfied!

Most ponies listed are just ponies I like and would like to have someday. They typically aren't a priority.

Along with the ponies listed, I also like to collect yellow ponies. My current yellow collection is right here! In the future I might be interested in any yellow ponies you might have that I don't already own.

Ponies in pink are things I'm actively looking for!

• Streaky

Pony Corral / G3 Prototypes?
« on: February 19, 2019, 10:46:45 AM »
I was browsing for web graphics just for fun from the official MLP sites and was looking through the French one.

Is there any information about these early versions of Cotton Candy Cafe and Celebration Salon, or better pictures? They're completely different from the final product and I really love them. Google didn't come up with any results. I really like the Sweetberry in the Rainbow Dash pose too.

Less interesting finds were these outfits for the Evening Wear (I think?) versions of Sparkleworks and Sunny Daze, and yellow Dance Slippers and Dance Around (Dance Slippers is in a different pose as well).

Pony Corral / In Your Opinion, How Successful Was G4 During Its Run?
« on: February 11, 2019, 12:04:52 PM »
Making this post as sort of a poll to see how G4 as a toyline is doing in other places of the world, especially in comparison to previous generations. It's easy to complain about Pinkie Pie but this is a little different. We all know FiM is... or was... a phenomenon, of course that made money, but this is about the toys specifically.

I've made a lot of posts on my blog about my "Pony-Finding" Adventures. Or I guess, my "Walking-Into-Target-and-Going-Into-the-Pony-Isle-to-Find-Nothing,-Turning-Around-And-Leaving-In-The-Span-of-5-Minutes" Adventures. Ponies just do NOT sell here. We hardly get any new releases. Last year I didn't see any of the Best Gift Ever or School of Friendship ponies (I ended up buying Sandbar off Amazon for $30 instead of $15 -_-). I never saw Hippogriff Skystar or Baby Sea Ponies anywhere (I found Bubble Splash at Best Buy of all places while looking for a game). I never saw any Friendship is Magic Collection playsets or ponies outside of the Apple Family stuff, which was put on clearance very quickly. Never saw Guardians of Harmony (except for Cheese Sandwich who was always on clearance), Toys R Us never got Ponymaina, I haven't seen Equestria Girl Minis since 2016, no one got Songbird Serenade or Tempest Shadow, I didn't see the early reboot/G4.5 ponies (like the set with Celestia, Fluttershy, and Philomena for example), and I can continue on and on about what I've never seen in person.

Target has a very small selection of ponies. Walmart is even smaller. Before the movie came out, they still had Cutie Mark Magic and pearly ponies they weren't able to get rid of. Now they have Raritys and Cappers they're not able to get rid of. One Walmart here doesn't have a pony section, it's just a small basket full of pearly ponies and FiM Collection Apple Family ponies.

Does anyone else find it impossible to find G4 stuff? Has stock always been this bad? I remember during G3, whenever you walked in, there was always good selection of ponies to choose from, and they always had something new. If there was a pony in the pamphlet you wanted, you'd be able to easily find her. Even with early G4s, I remember them changing things up often enough, they'd get in the playful ponies, the wedding ponies, the Crystal Empire and the Rainbow Power ponies... and then during Cutie Mark Magic and Explore Equestria, they just kind of... gave up? The Basic Fun ponies move along well I think, the Rainbows are usually snatched up, and the Collectors move a bit slower. But the G4s just won't move! There's never anybody even looking at ponies. There's usually two or three people in other aisles, and the toys in the other aisles usually have some indication of things actually selling (Woodzeez extremely are popular here... that, or they never stock them. Shopkins shelves look bare a lot of the time too, of course), but ponies are just collecting dust!

Do you see people buy ponies often? I think I've seen people looking at ponies twice from the past couple of years. I don't see little girls in public care about MLP either, they're more about LOL dolls or whatever, Fingerlings, and Shopkins. I've actually seen more children carry around EQGs or watch EQG on a tablet than MLP...

People on Tumblr have said similar things, where they can't find what they want because no one stocks it. Is this an issue worldwide? Do you think people are still interested? Is there a lack of interest due to oversaturation, or something else? From your experience, were other generations this bad?

I've tried googling numbers, but can only find MLP as a franchise rather than just the toys by themselves. I know they made big money off the movie, and FiM is still popular to this day, but the toy departments tell a totally different story.

Spoiler
A conspiracy theory to finish off: Do you think that sales determined them to reboot G4 into G4.5? I heard they rebooted the toys solely for the movie, but why do that when you could just reuse the old molds? It would have been just fine I think. Or maybe that was just speculation, did they ever give a reason to reboot? I heard some things about "to make the ponies more 'show-accurate'", but why did they do it so late in the generation instead of doing it when FiM was more relevant in the early 2010s? To me it just feels like they did it to try to get people to buy ponies again, because in my opinion 2015-2016 were the worst years for G4. I know it sparked my interest in them again, at least for a minute. While I already own 7 Twilight Sparkles, I don't own one in this ~new mold~!

Pony Corral / "Fixed" G4.5s
« on: November 26, 2018, 01:12:12 PM »
I'm Very Passionate about the quality of G4s and I'd like to see what they'd look like if Hasbro put in Any amount of effort. Also it's good painting and Photoshop practice ;)

Luna is my first attempt at doing anything major. Before it was small things like eyes and head shapes, but I wanted to try to give her new hair and accessories. I fixed her head shape, ears, gave her accessories (the crown is recoloured from a Celestia, the necklace is original), fixed her hair (recoloured from Twilight Sparkle stock images and repainted in places, particularly the forelock), and made her cutie mark bigger. I can only get better from here, the wings and ears need work.

Spike is one I fixed earlier because hoo boy. Hasbro does NOT like him.

I made his head smaller, repainted his eyes (tbh rushed, but this was supposed to be a quick edit anyway), painted his mouth, fangs, and chin, fixed his ear, gave him eyebrows (like in the quadrupedal mold), and repainted his head spikes. And most noticeably, gave him wings.

I plan on doing more, maybe, but I don't know who else is really bad enough to fix. Any suggestions? (Not sure if I'll do Cadence, she seems more complicated because of her hair colours...)

Pony Corral / "Natural" Colours on a Pony
« on: November 03, 2018, 05:40:21 PM »
What do you think about ponies who are less... Technicolor? I know a lot of people are open to it, but let's get down to the nitty-gritty. Why? Or why not?

Rainbow-coloured ponies are always my favourite regardless, but I don't see why Hasbro is adamant about doing anything outside of pink. There's a lot of different things you can do with these colours! I'd love to see a grey pony with rainbow hair, a black and gold pony, or an obligatory neapolitan pony! Even things like a pure white pony are rare, but still very nice. :)

On the other hand, it could get boring fast if the designers aren't creative. I never found Doctor Hooves or Octavia to be particularly interesting. At least Octavia has purple eyes going for her.

At that point my ideal "natural pony" would be half and half, a natural coat with colourful hair. If a pony is purely natural, it would have to have a nice theme/symbol to tie it all together.

Pony Corral / Dream Ponies?
« on: September 24, 2018, 04:31:22 PM »
Not grail ponies or ponies that are on your wishlist. I'm talking about ponies you may have seen in dreams that don't exist in real life.
I've had MANY dreams with "dream ponies" that I wish were real, including:

  • "Princess Hailey": No different from Honeycomb, but packaged with princess pony accessories (hat and wand only)
  • White Sparkle Pony Nightglider: Self explanatory and very pretty. Yes, she had her TAF symbols too!
  • Factory Error Mimic: Mimic, same pose and same hair colours, but her body is orange like Speedy's! Out of all of them at least this one sounds plausible enough to exist :P

Have you guys ever had any dream ponies? Or any other impossible pony-related dreams? I have a recurring dream about finding an old abandoned Celebration Castle for sale at Wal-Mart... in-box, ready for someone to take it...

Arts & Crafts Corral / G3 Art
« on: September 13, 2018, 12:34:58 PM »
I was going to give this drawing its own post but I think I'll make a thread for all my G3 art from hereon out ;~) I'm open for commissions for drawing ponies in this style!!!

Here's the arena mascot (?) pony!! She's so pretty!!

I've been practicing drawing in each generation's style and am confident enough to start commissions ;) I'm not sure what to charge yet, maybe ~$30-40 base price for something with G3's amount of detail, and $15-20 for G1 ("retro", like the merch that's coming out nowadays) and G4. I could do sketches in any style for ~$5-7 too

I'll do ponysonas, canon ponies, or OCs

Introductions / Introduction?
« on: September 04, 2018, 09:05:19 AM »
I made this account years ago, made an introduction post, but I guess it never got through because my account is still restricted x'~(

I'm Paradise-Estate on tumblr! I'm a MLP fanartist that likes to draw all gens

My very first generation was G2 but started collecting during G3, which remains as my favourite generation! I have a lot of nostalgia for the early days of G4 but with the Quality of this gen I'm excited for G5! Late 2010/early 2011 is when I first started posting MLP online but I didn't start blogging until 2014 when I bought some of my first G1s.
