Pony Corral / Pink Glitterbelle - Discoloring or variant?
« on: September 12, 2017, 01:43:18 PM »
I got Divine Shine Glitterbelle at the Goodwill today, but she's more of a pink than the purple she's supposed to be.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Here's her next to my Flower Garland, who is supposed to be pink:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I searched for images of Glitterbelle on Google and most are the purple color she's supposed to be, but some seem to be more pink than mine.

Is this a case of her becoming discolored, or is this a variant of her?

Pony Corral / Odd factory error on my All About Starlight Glimmer
« on: September 07, 2017, 09:00:11 PM »
So today I went to Walmart and got myself the All About Fluttershy and Starlight Glimmer, and Starlight has an interesting factory error:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

One of her hooves is longer on one side than it is the other! This results in a little balancing issue, but she is capable of standing fine, it's just easier for her to tip over when being touched (or having a fan aiming toward her in my case!). I'm fine having a pony with this error because it's so unique, but if you don't want to have ponies like this, I highly recommend you check over the pony as much as you can before buying it! I only really looked at her to make sure all her paint was nice, so I completely missed this before buying her, but I personally don't mind too much due to its uniqueness. Of course, if you plan on buying a pony online, you can't check for things like this.

Customs / Advise on taking the mane out of a Diva Pose pony?
« on: September 06, 2017, 06:25:21 PM »
I'm prepping a bait Skywishes (had gross sticky and stained hair, and a big orange stain on her body) for customizing (I've never customized before, so this is my first attempt!), and I've ran into a bit of an issue.

I've successfully removed her head (it was a bit of a pain, man G3 glue is strong!) and her tail. I cut down her mane so that I could then pull it out from the inside with tweezers and a pliers. I was able to get a little bit off, the bottom pink row, but I'm struggling with the rest. The angle of the diva pose head makes it difficult to see where the rest of the mane is when looking at the inside of the head, and therefore it's tough to get the tweezers or pliers where they need to be. Heating it up with a blow dryer wasn't much help either, it was good for the row that I was able to remove, but not so much the rest of it, as the ears don't really get soft.

Can anyone with diva pose customizing experience offer any advise on how to get the rest of the mane out?

Pony Brag Arena / Goodwill Finds! (Updated 9/12/2017)
« on: September 03, 2017, 04:36:32 PM »
My mom and I got out today to go eat lunch with a friend of hers about an hour away. On the way back home we stopped by the local Goodwill over there! I found a few MLP things!

First of all, the one actual pony I got, the G3.5 Styling Pinkie Pie!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

She had some marks on her that I scrubbed off with a Magic Eraser. There's still a pink mark on her front display side leg (doesn't show up on the photo but it's there) that didn't come off. I'll see if something else can get it off later.

Then I found the Runaway Rainbow DVD:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

It was still closed, had never been opened! I opened it though, really wanted to see the paper inserts it came with, and it'd be fun to watch the cartoon via the DVD sometime! Even though it was unopened, it wasn't in perfect condition. There's a scratch in the plastic covering on the back, seems like from the claws of a dog or cat.

I also got this little G4 book:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The art inside consists of your typical early G4 vectors, as well as screenshots from the show. It's just a book that goes over information about the Mane 6 + Spike.

Finally, this Twilight Sparkle PEZ dispenser:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

She was in a bag among a bunch of other dispensers, she was the only pony one. The bag was half off, originally $6 but I got it for $3. Instead of throwing away or dropping off the extras at our local Goodwill, my mom and I are going to try seeing if we can sell them at a local store that my mom has a booth at!

Pony Corral / Recommended hair for rehairing Goldilocks?
« on: September 01, 2017, 08:56:16 PM »
My Goldilocks has awful hair, very frizzy and a cut mane, even cut to the roots further down! I want to rehair her and make her pretty again. Which hairs do people recommend that's very close to the colors of Goldilocks' original hair? People seem to have had issues with Dollyhair, so preferably I'd like hair from elsewhere.

Here are images of my poor Goldilocks' hair:

Pony Corral / First time cleaning up tail rust! (w/ pictures)
« on: August 27, 2017, 06:44:45 PM »
My poor little Baby Surprise had tail rust, among other issues (I'll have to fix these later!), so I decided to do something about it!

Spoiler
Firstly, some before pics:

(Ignore Dancing Butterflies back there, I was going to do her too but didn't have enough time, she'll have to wait!)

Her head glue was being a bit stubborn in some places as I was holding her under the hot water, to help with it I ended up using the sharp part of a safety pin to poke through bits of the glue, and eventually succeeded in removing the head:

Another image of the rust inside:

It wasn't too much rust, the majority of it was around the washer itself, with just a little bit elsewhere (toward the bottom of the inside of her feet and inside her nose, I didn't have anything small enough to clean these places so I'll clean them out on a later date).

So, I took out the tail and began to clean.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I used a soft children's toothbrush and some toothpaste (the specific kind was Colgate MaxFresh with whitening if anyone's curious) that I had just gotten in a small tube from the dentist a while back. It didn't take too much scrubbing to get the rust off, on both the tail itself and inside the body where the washer was.

Here's the tail with its new, rubber washer:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I then of course had to take the rubber washer back off to put the tail back into the body. I just inserted the clamp with the tail in through the outside of the tail hole, then from the inside put the clamp through the hole of the washer. This rubber washer's a lot thicker than the original metal one was.

Here's the inside of her body with the new washer!

Despite the issues she has that I still need to fix, she's looking much better than she did before!

The issues she still has are:

-frizzy tail, I'll just try shampoo and conditioner initially, as I don't know if we have a straightening iron with a low setting in our house
-age spot (since she's a white pony it will be easy to simply paint over the spot)
-smudged paint on the right eye (I'll have to mix paint together to match the purple color)
-faded pink balloon strings (again I'll have to mix paint together)

Her neck is also thicker on the body part than it is on the head, but I don't think there's really anything I can do about it. It looks odd, but oh well.

I also still have that rust inside of her feet and nose to take care of, but I'll have to buy something like pipe cleaners before I can fix that. I at least got the metal washer out and cleaned up the rust around that area!

I'm here with another thread to contain my little brags in for a while!

First brag post of this thread, I went to Ben Franklin's and Walmart today, got some pony stuff! I also went to the Goodwill and looked at the toys, books, and videos/DVDs (as well as that isle where they have things like ceramic figures cause I don't want to risk ever missing a pony one), and there was not a single MLP item in that whole building, it was a very disappointing Goodwill trip.

At Ben Franklin's, I got this Fluttershy PEZ dispenser:

Then at Walmart, I got this little set with Applebloom and Babs Seed:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

They were in the clearance section for just $1, the last one there too! Their package was all beat up too.

And I found the other two Wave 2 pearlized ponies I needed, Rainbow Dash and Pretzel!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

These two came in a buy 2 for the price of 1 pack just like the Twilight and Cherry Berry I got before.

Sometime in the next few days I'll be going to Value Village. Hopefully I won't come out empty handed like I did today from the Goodwill.

Pony Brag Arena / Big Birthday Brag (long and pic heavy)
« on: August 12, 2017, 07:17:35 PM »
My birthday was on the 9th, and I picked out a bunch of ponies for it! I got $100 in total from grandparents, and then I was also allowed to have a few extra things with my parents' money. :P

The first thing I got was the singing Songbird Serenade from Target, on my birthday:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

She has two short song clips. I look forward to hearing the full version of this song, without all the awful audio compression this toy has. Wish we could get some pony toys with good audio for a change. Her tail hole is pretty large compared to the metal piece holding her tail, so it can come out easily. I was brushing it and pulled on it a little and it popped out, but it's super easy to put back in. While it wouldn't be too much of a problem for collectors such as myself and most people here, I can easily imagine this leading to a kid losing the tail... My Songbird also has a couple marks on her from the factory that will not come off. One on each wing (on the inside of them, so they aren't visible), and another to the top and left of her cutie mark button. Since it's on her display side I have her displayed with her wing positioned to where you can't see the mark as well. Her tail also feels a little greasy, even after conditioning it. Perhaps I'll try again later.

Flaws aside, she's very cute! I love her cute little jacket (which is removable though I'm too used to it on that she looks weird without it to me!) and her design. I really love that her bow lights up when she sings. I look forward to whenever the normal sized toy of her comes out, I want to get all the merch of her now (and I don't even listen to Sia, though perhaps I should look up more of her stuff beyond her hits sometime).

At the same Target trip my mom let me pick out a birthday card, of course I picked a pony one. They had three pony ones there but this one was my favorite of them.

I'm not usually a fan of cards with glitter like this, but the popup feature completely makes up for it.

I also got one of the double packs of the Series 4 trading cards that came with a bonus foil card:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

They only had the ones with the foil Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy, I chose Fluttershy (I want to get the Twilight one sometime...). I love how they have some cards drawn by fans, that's super cute!

Then the next day (the 10th) I went to Toys R Us and got the big exclusive Party Friends set:

Individual photos here.

I like the unique tinsel they used here for the Mane 6. It's so different from the normal tinsel ponies have, and instead of being among normal hair, the parts on these with the tinsel are exclusively tinsel. It alternates between the tinsel and the normal hair. My favorite of these tinsel Mane 6 is probably Rarity, I love the silver tinsel and clear glitter they used so much.

The other 6 are normal ponies. Like other people I'm a little confused by the combination of Twilight and Muffins, and Fluttershy and DJ Pon-3, but it's nice to have both of them in G4.5 form. I never ended up getting the Muffins brushable from G4 so I'm happy to have this one. My favorite of these 6 is Coco Pommel, I love her colors!

All of the ponies in this set have such silky soft hair, and it doesn't at all seem greasy!

Yesterday I went to Walmart planning on just seeing what Movie toys they had without buying anything, but I couldn't resist buying the Seapony Twilight:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The pearlized look her body has is absolutely beautiful. I am a sucker for pearlized ponies. I love how they give the winged ponies fin wings in seapony form. I look forward to eventually getting the Rarity and Applejack too.

On the downside though, her hair is frizzy. I have a feeling hair frizziness is coming from the way they have their hair packaged, with those plastic things you pull apart. All of my recent ponies I've got whose hair was packaged like that is frizzy. Meanwhile the TRU set have nice silky hair, likely because their hair was not packaged with those awful plastic things, and instead with rubber bands.

Then just today, the GoH Fan Series Discord I had my dad order from Amazon arrived (he was ordered Thursday night, so it took two days to arrive):

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The only flaw I have noticed with this is that there's some white paint above his right eyebrow which shouldn't be there. Aside from that he seems to be perfect.

And finally, I just got back from Sally's Beauty Supply to get the Songbird Serenade nail polish:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I plan on putting some on tomorrow, it's been quite a while since I've worn nail polish!

That's everything for now! Then when the Songbird Serenade BAB plush comes out I'll be getting that as a later birthday present.

Pony Brag Arena / My Collection!
« on: August 01, 2017, 10:53:04 AM »
I figured it was a good time to show off what I've gathered in the past 6 years since I began collecting. I took these for a thread over on the MLP Merch forum but I suppose I should post updated collection photos here too, since last time I did so (over in a thread in the Corral), I didn't have a dedicated G4.5 shelf.

So here we go!

Pony Corral / Rehairing electronic ponies?
« on: July 27, 2017, 08:14:17 PM »
So, I got a Princess Twilight Sparkle at the Goodwill, and she has cut and frizzy hair, so I was thinking about rehairing her. Since she's an electronic pony, I assume rehairing her would be an entirely different situation compared to rehairing normal pony. I haven't even rehaired a normal pony before. I was wondering if anyone here has tried doing something like this before. With the way her head is fit on differently than normal ponies (no neck plug, her head is on over her neck), would it be possible to put her head back on after rehairing her and still have the head be movable?

Would it even be worth attempting to rehair her or would it be better to leave the original hair despite it being cut and just try to defrizz it?

Here's the image of her:

Pony Brag Arena / Toy store haul! 6 G2s + 2 G4 blindbags
« on: July 16, 2017, 03:21:51 PM »
Last week in the shoutbox I had mentioned that I found the website of a toy store I went to before and that they had a G2 on their site. For a while I would buy their ponies from an antique mall (I would make brag posts about my buys from there a few years back), but then they left the antique mall and the owner of that place told my mom and I where their toy store was, which we went to once and then hadn't gone back since.

They moved their location since then, and my mom and I went there today to get that G2 (Light Heart), and also a replacement for G3 Loop-De-La since mine is in poor condition. We got there and their selection of ponies seemed entirely different from the ones on their site (in the store it was mostly G3s, dollymixes, and G4 blindbags, with a few G1s and some MIB ponies of various gens). So we asked the employee that was at the counter and he called the owner and asked him to bring all of the ponies from the old location (which they just use as storage for the website store) to the new location. So my mom and I walked around the store for about 15 minutes and then the owner got there.

He brought in a bunch of cardboard boxes full of ponies so that I could find the two that I was looking for. I found G2 Light Heart like I wanted, but G3 Loop-De-La was nowhere to be found. But that was fine since there were a ton of ponies in those boxes that they didn't have listed on their site! I ended up getting every G2 I found in there that I didn't have (save for the PC game figure, it was $5 for something so small), as well as one that I did already have but was in better condition than mine. I also got 2 of the G4 blindbag figures they had.

Picture time!

I took all of the bows off of the G2s and I'll display them without them, it's easier to brush pony hair without bows! :P I'll put the bows in my G1 lunchbox along with my G1 bows.

That trip turned out even better than I was expecting! Despite not being able to replace my G3 Loop-De-La, my G2 collection has grown by 6 ponies today (not counting Morning Glory as she is a replacement for the one I already had she counts she is a variant not exactly the same).

EDIT: Here are my two Morning Glorys standing together!

Here's the image of my Daisy Jo with "TBA" on hers:

Out of the other 2005 McD toys, Serendipity has "3BC". My others from this year do not.

As for my 2008 ones, Rainbow Dash has "XAA", StarSong has "C92", Scootaloo has "A85" (maybe? it's a little faded), Cheerilee has "B87", Pinkie Pie has "R88", Minty has "L8U". Out of these 2008 ones only Sweetie Belle and Toola-Roola have nothing.

Does anyone know why these appear on some of their hooves? What do they mean? I find it odd that it only appears on some and not others, and that it seems to be more common on the 2008 ones than the 2005 ones.

Pony Corral / How to clean this styling size G3?
« on: June 29, 2017, 04:00:44 PM »
I have a styling size G3 Rainbow Dash that I got at a thrift store a few years ago and hadn't gotten around to cleaning her. I had taken these photos about 30 minutes ago to be "before" pictures to post in the restoration thread and I was planning on cleaning all the marks off of her and washing her hair.

Spoiler

I was able to get most of the marks off of her with a magic eraser, but the bright pink marks, which are the main issue she has, remain. They're hard to see in the images without viewing them at full size.

These marks are caused by stickers that were on her when I got her, how do I go about removing them? Does she need to be sunfaded? If so for about how long?

Pony Brag Arena / Got some new G4s + 4.5s at Wal-Mart today!
« on: June 29, 2017, 03:06:56 PM »
I'm here with my first brag since coming back here! I looked at the ponies in Wal-Mart today and bought myself four. I got one of the two-packs with the glittery G4s (Twilight Sparkle and Cherry Berry), and two G4.5s (Pinkie Pie and Rarity).

Here they are in the packages:

The sparkly G4s in their individual packages:

The sparkly G4s freed:

And the G4.5s freed:

A major complaint with 4.5s is their greasy hair, which yeah it is greasy. However these sparkly G4s I got seem much, much worse in terms of their greasy hair. I'm going to have to shampoo and condition all four of these ponies, but them especially. It is a shame that this has to be done with brand new out of the package ponies.

Hair problems aside, they're very cute and I'm happy to add them to my collection!
