Pony Corral / MLP Table Top Game?
« on: April 10, 2017, 12:44:32 PM »
Probably there's a thread of this already but I searched the past 4 pages and didn't find it. >.>

So apparently there's a simple table-top RPG book coming out for MLP! It's called Tales of Equestria and it's put out by Ninja Division.

http://ninjadivision.com/my-little-pony-tails-of-equestria/tails-of-equestria/

It looks pretty cute! I think this simplified version of a table top game might be just the thing to get younger people into RPing!

Off Topic / Showing off my baby girl! (cat photos!)
« on: February 24, 2017, 10:01:09 AM »
An online friend of mine wanted to draw my cat, so after much hassle I finally got my old cellphone to transfer some photos to the computer! It was a long process, my phone is very old. XD

So why not show them off on the Arena, I asked myself! Here's my baby girl, Lil Bit. (She's grown quite a bit since we first named her, she started as a stray and now she is a fat and happy 7-yr-old.)

Off Topic / I need background characters! Wanna help?
« on: December 26, 2016, 07:25:59 PM »
Hey guys! I need some inspiration here!

I'm currently writing a kids' book about wild reindeer and I need help thinking up some background characters! The main characters live in a big herd, and I ran out of ideas for character names lol.

The naming scheme in the book is that the young deer have one-word names, and they get a second part of their name when they reach adulthood. (I know this has been done before, it's kinda common in animals-with-their-own-culture kids books to be honest.)

The main character boys are: Stone, Drake, and Mask

The main character girls are: Star, Moss, and Story

(Stone, the primary protagonist, becomes Stonehoof as an adult, which is the title of the story for now....)

Any ideas? Please post! I need inspiration. ^^;

Off Topic / X-Files fans?
« on: December 15, 2016, 07:03:40 AM »
When I was a teenager, X-Files was just about my fave thing on tv.  I loved the characters and the stories that would come up each week. I loved the 'monster of the week' stuff more than the ongoing mythology story with the government coverups, but really there wasn't any part of the show I didn't like.

For an early Christmas gift, last month my friend started sharing her Netflix account with me, and low and behold, I discovered Netflix has all of the original 9 seasons!  So I am currently reliving my childhood by watching the show from the start. It's very nostalgic for me, and as an adult I really appreciate some of the very clever writing that I didn't really think about as a kid.

I'm just starting season 3 and I wish I could talk to someone about it, but none of my friends enjoy this genre, and it's hard to find someone online wanting to talk about a two-decade old TV show. XD

So who of us was an X-Phile back in the day? Who still enjoys the show? What did you like about it? Are you an M&S shipper? Tell me all!

Pony Corral / MLP Super Bowl ad?
« on: December 02, 2016, 10:49:31 AM »
So I was cruising another pony site today and they were discussing whether advertisements are ever aimed at adult bronies or just the young girl demographic, and someone in the comments mentioned this:

Quote
There was a Super Bowl pony ad a couple years ago. Like legit animated by the actual animators. I think it was partof a coke commercial. Nothing tops that.

Was there really such a thing? I've never heard of it! I'd be interested in seeing it if it were true.

It's that time again, my writer friends! :D November is almost upon us!

Have you gone to the NaNo site and set up your novel yet? :D
http://nanowrimo.org

My NaNoWriMo buddy list is like 4 pages long, but most of my friends have dropped it over the years. :( I need more buddies to keep me motivated! If you would like to be added to my Buddy List, please post your NaNo username here! And you can add me too. My NaNo username is ryuukokoro

Let's make this a giant chat thread, NaNoWriMoers! What's the first topic of conversation? Why, tell us a little synopsis about the novel you're writing this year, of course!

Off Topic / Mousecapades!
« on: October 05, 2016, 08:27:33 AM »
I'm totally amused by my current situation (for now!) so I had to find someone to share my story with.

I live in a basement apartment. When I first moved in here six years ago with my cats, no one had lived down there for years and I discovered there were some mice living in the basement. I discovered this because my cats would bring them to me alive to show me proudly that they were good hunters, lol. I always took the mice from them and brought them far out into the woods behind the house and let them go. After a few times doing this, the mice stopped appearing in the basement because, I figured, they were smart enough to realize cats now lived down there, with a human.

Six years passed and we never saw more mice, but this year they have returned, with gusto! Now that the nights are getting colder, in the past three weeks I've already rescued four of them.

Sadly I lost my older cat, Kohaku, last February. But Mango, my younger girl, is doing very well catching mice all on her own and runs right to my bedroom to drop them in front of me when she catches them. She's very proud, lol. She gets so confused when I pick up the poor stunned critter with a tissue, and then she spends several minutes looking all over the floor for where it could have gone (despite watching me pick up the mouse! she's not the brightest crayon in the box...).

Last night was the coup de grace. I was awoken at 3AM by a loud squeaking and then a weight on my chest as Mango jumped up on me on the bed and DROPPED A LIVE MOUSE ON MY CHEST. :P Thanks, Mango! It's a good thing me and the mouse were both equally stunned, and that I recovered first and scooped him up in the sheet before he realized he could run away.

Honestly I find mice to be adorable so I don't mind this too much, but I swear this cat is going to find out how I quickly I go from amused to pissy if she starts throwing dead presents on me in my sleep instead of live ones!  :P Meanwhile I hope this generation of mice catch on quick and stop coming in the house. We're trying to figure out how they get in so we can block up the entrances, but it's a very old house so there's a lot of places they could be coming through.

Pony Corral / Pursey Pink common now?
« on: September 18, 2016, 08:11:46 PM »
Is G4 Pursey Pink common at this point, or still rare? I know she was hard to find for some people for a while. I found one at my local Walmart today and I can go back and look for more if she's still hard to find. :)

Pony Corral / Was MLP at one point produced by Marvel...? o.0
« on: September 17, 2016, 10:01:45 AM »
My random youtube wanderings yesterday brought me to a video made by Butch Hartman (the guy who created Fairly Oddparents, Danny Phantom, etc.) and in the video he mentions he "worked on the original My Little Pony years ago at Marvel Productions." Here's the spot in the video when he mentions it:

https://youtu.be/9n1lxyO9MOk?t=1m37s

I must say I am very confused and intrigued! At some point, was there a Marvel company doing the G1 cartoon? Or was this a MLP series that never aired? I figured the Arena would be the best place to ask, there's so many people here with so much MLP knowledge. Can anyone shed some light on this subject, for my curiosity's sake?

(If you check out Butch Hartman's wiki page, in the 'early career' section it says he worked on An American Tail and shortly after that, he worked as character designer and storyboard artist for "an unidentified My Little Pony animated series" so I assume this was an 80's thing.)

Ideas?

Hey guys!

Back when I was in college, many years ago, my friends and I used to design t-shirts for each other using CafePress.com. I'm not really that good with graphic images, so I was more an idea person and I had some friends who would do the designs.

I have an idea for a simple design for a t-shirt now and I think it would be easiest to just get it done myself on one of those print sites. Is there anyone here who does designs for cafepress or zazzle or sites like that? And what are the details of that type of sites these days? Is it possible to make the t-shirt design private so only certain people can order it? (I vaguely recall that being the case back when we used to do it in college.)

Any help you can supply, I would appreciate. :) If you are someone who could do the graphic design (it's just some text, not a drawn picture), I would be happy to trade something small from my trade thread or do an art exchange. :)

Thanks for your help!

Pony Corral / Hasbro, what were you thinking?!
« on: June 14, 2016, 01:08:08 PM »
Sometimes Hasbro has me so confused. I see some of their choices and can't make sense of them at all. Of course I'm sure there's information we the public aren't aware of, going on behind the scenes, but sometimes it just seems like they make choices that even a simple person could tell is a bad decision from the standpoint of a company trying to make money.

So here's a thread where we can all wonder why Hasbro would do some of the crazy things they do that seems to make no sense! XD

Most of my thoughts when I think about this topic are for the G3 days... Like, Hasbro, only Earth ponies for three years!? What were you thinking!? Who told them unicorns and pegsi wouldn't sell, when they were part of the brand since G1? And making a brand new mold for a baby pegasus pony and then only using it ONCE? What's up with that? The babies in the G3 line were so popular!

Anyone else wonder about Hasbro decisions sometimes? Share here!

Trader & Shipping Support / Short ebay auction story
« on: May 30, 2016, 11:32:58 AM »
Just a little ebay story I wanted to share. It didn't end badly, but I guess it could have so I thought I would share with the community. :)

So I bought a Dancing Butterflies off ebay, and the ebay auction photo showed a very pretty Dancing Butterflies plus her backcard! I was really excited that I got both for $15 (including the shipping). The auction info stated that the lady had these ponies sitting in her attic for a long time and just wanted to get rid of them.

When I paid for the auction, I sent a message in the note field that said "please be careful with the backcard while shipping, thanks!" because I was worried about the backcard getting bent in the mail, especially since this was not a collector and just someone selling childhood toys.

The response I got back was kind of snippy. She said "The backcard was not part of the auction you won, I am just including it to be nice. I don't even know why I kept it, I guess I was a weird kid. Some other buyer got mad at me because their backcard had writing on it."

At first I was a little miffed at her overblown reaction because I really didn't mean anything bad by my message, I just wanted her to be careful shipping the item. But then I can totally understand her point of view too, if she was currently dealing with a difficult buyer and then saw my message and thought "Oh no now I have to deal with this." (On the other hand, if you don't mean for the backcard to be part of the auction, then don't put it in the photos, eh?)

Well I didn't respond to her message and just waited for the item to arrive. It came in a bubble envelope and thankfully both the backcard and Dancing Butterflies are in great shape. :) Dancing Butterflies is a little tacky, I think I've heard of this from plastiziers breaking down, so I'm going to give her a careful wash and hope that fixes it.

In conclusion! I should have checked the auction more carefully (she doesn't mention the backcard in the auction title or the auction info, it's just in the photos) and asked questions before buying. And she probably could have just said she would try to be careful and leave it at that. But everything turned out okay. :)

Off Topic / Super late amazing swap brag with tikibirds!
« on: May 21, 2016, 03:36:46 PM »
A million apologies to tikibirds for how long it took me to post my brag from a private swap we did. I absolutely love everything I found in my box, I just couldn't find time to take pictures and I hate wrestling with my cellphone camera and then uploading pics to my phone and then uploading them to photobucket... Technology, oy!  -_- I hope you didn't think this delay meant I didn't like my swap, tiki, because I really loved it all. :D

I was especially lucky to get to do a swap with tikibirds because she's staying in China right now and I LOVE Asian inspired things. I love pagodas, cherry blossoms, paper lanterns, beautiful anime, etc. Everything! And tiki was so nice to send me a bunch of Asian things along with two great ponies. :D

Sorry for the bad photo quality with these pictures. >_>

One of the things I especially love to use as decorations are butterflies and dragonflies. Tiki found a lot of beautiful things with this motif, like these butterfly notebooks! The one in the bottom left corner is a small book of bound paper for small notes, I think.

Also look at this cute Chi's Sweet Home notebook! I LOVE CHI! :D Thank you for finding this adorable merch!

And the postcard in the bottom right of the photo is a fuu dog, a really awesome creature from Chinese mythology. Thank you for including this! I really love Chinese myths. :)

Ugh, this photo came out really dark, sorry.  >_< The two items on the left are stationary. The cherry blossom paper is so gorgeous! The beautiful blue envelopes have dragonflies on them. <3

On the right at the top is a cute hook/hanger you can put on the wall, with a moneki neko (aka 'money cat') motif.

The bottom right is one of my favorite things in the whole box! :D It's a gorgeous butterfly bookmark that is made of very very thin etched metal. It's absolutely beautiful.

One of the things I enjoy doing most in my spare time is sewing. I was so pleased when I found a cross-stitch kit with cherry blossoms in my box from tiki! I can't wait to get out my sewing needle and start on it. :D And next to that is a beautiful decorative fan with cherry blossoms and butterflies.

Cute washcloth with seals! XD Also some pens with butterflies and strawberries. There's also a Totoro keychain, and a little good luck charm from a temple! Oh I love it, it's so tiny and pretty! I love charms. The item in the bottom left corner is a big sticker. And G4 Octavia and Starlight Glimmer! Yay!!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Okay I totally lucked out because I got to try some Chinese goodies! The snacks on the top left in the pink bag is... I don't know if I can describe them. They are called 'corn curls' and... well, imagine a cheese puff but without any cheese or salt on it. Instead they are covered in a pink frosting that is very sweet. They were really tasty! It was like combining cheese puffs with a strawberry dessert.

The pink box marked Sinky was filled with pink-frosted cookies. Yummy! And the small pink package has a picture of some white liquid with strawberries on the front. Tiki included a note that says 'add 1 cup of water' so I will do that and see what this drink is! X3 Something strawberry flavored I bet.

The two butterflies on the right have light-up stands and they are so cute. And the item in the bottom left is actually a calendar! Each page has a different art of a little girl in a traditional kimono. I love it so much! The art is just so gorgeous.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Oh man do I love "Engrish." XD You will find some hilarious English phrases on different Asian products! The top of this box that the butterflies came in says "The world is not lack of beauty, lack of discovery of the eye." The other sides say "Point a lamp to warm the whole world." and "Love is like this Company is the longest love confession." (Okay I have no idea what that was trying to say haha!)

Thank you so much tikibirds! I really loved my swap. I hope you like what I got for you as well! ^_^
