For Trade / Sweetie Pup for Trade!
« on: March 18, 2015, 09:43:54 AM »
Thread Recycling!

I have two Sweetie Pups that need new homes!  I would LOVE to trade for Sweetie Pups/Kitties I don't already have, but am open to anything else on my want list *points to sig*

I have the Baby Maltese - very good condition.  Only flaw is a small rub to nose.

I also have an adult Maltese who needs some help.  I bought it recently at the thrift store and noticed that it has VDS developing on the body.  Most of the spots are very faint, but a couple are dark.  The hair covers most of the spots.  Also, I noticed that it smells a bit funky - like mildew.  I'm not very good of popping off pup heads, but they are similar to MLP. A fixer-upper pup!

The Dollhouse / Disney Doll Clothing!! Shoes! Liv Accessories! More!

 Recycling Threads

Saying "I have a lot of stuff to sell" is an understatement.  I am overwhelmed with all of the stuff and things!

I have multiple boxes of Barbie and Disney dolls, an overflowing bin of shoes and small accessories, plus I just came home with a large bag of Disney doll clothing.

I am going to start with what I just brought home.  Then, hopefully, list all of the shoes and itty bitty pieces.  The dolls?  Well, I'll get to them some day!

If you are looking for anything in particular, please send me a PM.  I might just have it!

Although I would prefer to sell these items, I am open to trading!

Pictures (hopefully) coming soon!  Feel free to PM me for pics if I haven't updated this thread yet ;)

Pony Corral / Restoration Project: Honeycomb!
« on: March 07, 2015, 04:21:58 PM »
I recently bought Honeycomb from Tiffymh1fan.  Tiffy said Honeycomb had some issues, but I was willing to do a little work to add an international exclusive pony to my collection.

Before I sold the bulk of my collection over ten years ago, I had a handful of UK ponies...but never had Honeycomb!

Honeycomb arrived on Thursday.  Some of her forelock was cut and I think her mane was a shortened a bit.  Slight tail rust.  She had rubs along her eyeliner and one pupil.  Her symbols were faded.  Almost no glitter left and some of the black bits were faded.  Her body was no longer white (my flash makes her look white, but she's more of an off-white in person).  She had pindot mold around the tips of the ears and upper lop.  Various spots of random colors on the body: a faded blue streak on the nose, faint pink along the wings, and a big 'ole pink mark on her back leg.

Before photos:

I touched up her eyeliner using black acrylic (no after pictures yet...)

I didn't have much in the way of paint and glitter, but I worked with what I had and I think it turned out great!  I used a gold FolkArt acrylic mixed with loose eyeshadow and the only glitter I had on hand...

Touched up symbols:

Now, I know they're not perfect. but I don't think the actual factory paint was perfect either.  I just wanted to darken the faded symbols, so I'm happy :)

I decided to whiten her body/remove the stains by using benzoyl peroxide.  It's a tried and true method I've used, even if it means she'll be on a semi-permanent quarantine from the herd.  I am way to impatient to sunfade XD  She's still undergoing the treatment and I plan on leaving it on her for a while...

More pics to come soon!

Off Topic / BARF Diet - Share Your Experiences Please!
« on: March 02, 2015, 07:37:39 PM »
I am seriously considering changing my dog to a BARF diet.(bones and raw food - also called biologically appropriate raw food)

She has been seriously itchy for a long while now (I post on a dog forum and have tried lots of stuff).  Today she scratched herself raw over a three hour period while I was out of the house and gave herself a hot spot.

I plan on taking her to the vet to figure out what is causing the problem.

I'm researching BARF and even if the itchiness isn't a result of commercial food, I think I may switch her over anyway.

Does anyone else feed their pets BARF?

I enjoy looking at other people's custom dolls.  I have dabbled in pony customs in the past and, well, I am in need of lots of practice!

I've been putting off attempting making a custom doll - mainly because I can't decide what kind of primer to use (lol, I have a list of suggestions/recommendations from a post I made months ago).  Also, I'm lacking in inspiration.

Well, I saw a custom Disney Animator doll the other day and it is amazing.  It got me thinking: as a noob, is it easier to work on a larger face rather than a Barbie/MH doll?

Also, how much hair do you think it would take to rehair an Animator Doll?

I happen to have an Ariel Animator doll (nude) that no one wants and a box filled with Barbie/Disney dolls that I can't find homes for...and I always seem to have MH dolls float through that take forever to trade...

Anyway, where should I start?  Should I practice on smaller dolls or go whole-hog on Ariel?

Off Topic / I Am Obsessed with Swedish...
« on: February 28, 2015, 05:14:26 PM »
...pastries!

I was looking for something to watch on tv and saw "Welcome to Sweden" was available through VOD.  I hadn't heard of the show (apparently it was on this past summer on NBC), but ended up binge watching this past week.

In one of the episodes, I learned of semlor.  I wanted one so gosh darn badly.  I can just imagine how AWESOME they are.  In fact, I had a dream one night all about semlor.

I was able to locate a few Swedish bakeries in my area and have plans to visit, but in the meanwhile I keep looking at pictures of semlor...

...that's when Google suggested prinsesstårta.  Prinsesstårta?  Of course I had to look....so...many...beautiful...cakes.  Then I started reading blogs just about prinsesstårta.  This one is my favorite: http://semiswede.com/2011/09/21/princess-cake-demystified-prinsesstarta/

Of course I'm going to have to try it once I get to the bakery.  I am worried that I'm going to walk in and become obsessed with ALL of the pastries  :P

Post Merge: February 28, 2015, 05:16:22 PM

...I am now dreaming of a pony-themed prinsesstårta.  With a little marzipan pony on top instead of a rose!

Post Merge: February 28, 2015, 05:27:27 PM

*screams* Google is filled with pony-themed princess cakes

but...THIS TAKES THE CAKE! (so to speak):

Trader & Shipping Support / Can I Ask a Favor of Someone in the UK?
« on: February 27, 2015, 07:43:59 PM »
The Entertainer (thetoyshop.com) has the new Europe/UK only Novi Star dolls for sale this weekend only.  Super cheap (5 pounds instead of 20!).

The thing is, it's in-store pick up only!

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to pick up an order for me (or I send you the PayPal funds, & you place/pick up order...in case they will only release the dolls to the person who paid).  And, of course, ship the dolls to me (I'd pay for that too).

I could either send you something from your trade list or maybe give you extra spending money to buy some G4 stuff from the store?

It's a long shot, but I thought I'd ask :)

Customs / Alternate Re-hair: Princess Rinse 'n Spit!
« on: February 26, 2015, 09:20:20 AM »
Last month I was fortunate to trade with SeashellnBubbles, who sent me a Princess Rinse 'n Spit in need of TLC.

The Princess is missing her original sound and light mechanisms and had no mane or tail.  Originally, she had orange hair.

I haven't rehaired a pony since...2003?  Yeah, before Dollyhair existed.  In fact, the method of choice at the time was a complicated tie-a-knot and thread it through.  It was awful.  I managed to restore a TAF Baby Dancing Butterflies, but it took so many hours *facepalm*

I was inspired by everyone's alt. rehairs on the forum and Dollyhair's tutorials.  I knew I could do it!

The hair arrived yesterday.  Sour Apple Martini!  I spent maybe 30 minutes total on her?  I plan to thicken her mane up a little more (I split some of the plugs, so I applied glue on the inside of her head to sure things up).  I am VERY proud of My Little Princess Rinse 'n Spit!

I am torn!

I purchased a lot of vintage Sylvanian Family type bears and I really like them...but they all reek of mildew/mold!

It seems that the bears are in very good condition and aren't the source of the mildew, but the stench is so darn bad (not to mention it's making it difficult for me to breathe - I'm not having an asthma attack, but if I opened ALL of these bears I probably would).  They came in little individual boxes.  I removed one from the box and it filled a 16 x 20 room with the stench

Now, I know the old trick of burying items under kitty litter to remove odors...which means I have to go buy kitty litter and wait for it to work.

On the other hand, should I open a claim against the buyer on eBay?  I mean, there is no way she didn't know these stink.  She listed they have age related wear, but nothing about this stench.  I don't want to sound like a jerk and tell her "hey, I want to keep these bears and want a partial refund because they're a health hazard and to clean them up is going to cost me money & time."

*sigh*

Thoughts?

The Dollhouse / ID Needed! 1991 JPI ...another mystery!
« on: February 10, 2015, 07:52:00 PM »
It's so hard to tell if an unknown doll is worth buying.  At my favorite thrift store, they put all the dolls in plastic bags.  I'm not one to break the rules and open the bags, so I try to shift clothing around through the plastic.

Today I took a chance.  This doll looked as if she had never been played with...and I was right!  I gave her a spare pair of Barbie high heels, but the rest of the outfit is original.

The only markings are on the nape of the neck: 1991 J P I and on the shoulder blades: MADE IN CHINA

I found someone's site that specializes in JPI's Starr Modeling Agency Dolls, but nothing else!

Any ideas?

LoL, she's a bit wonk-eyed, isn't she?

The Dollhouse / Alice! (Brag)
« on: February 10, 2015, 07:06:09 PM »
I was fortunate enough to visit a few thrift stores today.

The very last thrift store I visited is one of my favorites.  When I arrived, there were two dealers/collectors already in the too-narrow aisle!  A gentleman was grabbing any and all things die-cast vehicles.  A woman had grabbed all things...pony.

I could barely fit in the aisle, but luckily there was a shifting of carts and I was able to squeeze in.  The woman had grabbed all the G3's (except for one Starsong), but left all the G3.5's & G4's.  *sigh*  But it was all good, because I noticed that she didn't have any G3's that I was interested in anyway.  Wow, that sounds self-centered!  Yes, I did look in her cart because I knew if I didn't my imagination would run wild.  After all, this is the same thrift where I found a mint condition Mimic this past summer!

I started finding dolls I liked and began popping them into my cart.  The woman took notice.  Apparently we were after a lot of the same things

I circled around to another aisle where collectible dolls are kept.  Usually they're hideous porcelain abominations, but occasionally there's a good doll...and at the very least, doll stands.

There she was: Alice!

"Oh!"  I couldn't help but gasp.  Alice was the cutest darn doll I've seen in a long, long while.  I took a look at who made her: Madame Alexander!  Normally I'm not a fan of M. Alexander, but this Alice...this Alice is SO sweet!

I haven't taken any pictures of her yet, but here's a photo from Replacements.com:

She's marked 1966 and is about 14" tall.  I paid $9.61, which I think is a good deal.  She ranges from $14.99 - $40 on eBay (they all look the same to me, lol)

I am in love :hearts: and just in time for Valentine's Day!
