At the end of the G2 era, I ordered these cute G1-style shirts from a junior's clothing catalog (children's sized though):

They even say c1999 Hasbro, Inc All Rights Reserved, so I assume that means they're officially licensed.

In little circles off to the side, the non-photo ones have the pony's names and symbols...

...labeled as "Official Rump Design"?!

*sigh* Oh Hasbro....

(My 5th one is still in the laundry from the VA Meet, so no picture of that one - Pretty Vision in the Brush Me Beautiful Boutique - but I promised some people there that I'd share these)

I made this and would like to sell it at Otakon, a major anime convention that's in a few weeks:

I've sold hand painted boxes in the past, and I've asked about this one here maybe a year ago, but I'm just curious what other people think seems like a reasonable price for something like this.

Pony Brag Arena / Thrift Store Shining Armor and Creamsicle!?
« on: July 15, 2013, 05:26:34 PM »
No pictures, but I'm so excited and surprised to find them both! And for just over $2! They're in pretty nice shape too, although Creamsicle needs to be cleaned of course.

I think I may be more surprised to find Shining Armor, actually. I didn't expect to see him turn up second-hand so soon. ...and actually...the troll hair's...not as bad as I was expecting... Still would have preferred the regular hair, but for $1, I can't really complain.

Off Topic / Places to list an apartment for rent?
« on: July 09, 2013, 04:23:07 PM »
I've been looking for a roommate since May, and have been having no luck with Craigslist. It's how I've found most of my past roommates with really no problems, but this time around, I'm just getting a ton of scammers and a few real people who it just didn't work out. I've also sent out emails at work, but only people with pets have responded, and we can't have pets here.

Anyone have any ideas? I need to find someone by the end of the month!

Customs / Young Granny Smith G1!

Found this green G1-fakie and just had to make a young Granny Smith out of it!

The hair was left over from a G3 bait, so I'm happy to say it's "real" pony hair  And good thing she wears a shawl because, being a fakie, her head and body don't quite align 100%, so that's covered!

At some point, I'll get some red fabric and make her bonnet and correct hair ties too.

Customs / Almost finished...and ran out of hair!
« on: March 24, 2013, 05:06:27 PM »
I'm working on 2 customs using donor hair I saved from other baits, and I ran out right at the end! One is short 11 hair plugs, and the other is short 7-8! I can't really justify buying more hair just for that little bit, but it seems like too much to try to take from another pony!

Anyone else have this happen? What do you do?

Customs / FBR vs Dye? Also, adding holes for more hair?
« on: March 10, 2013, 08:10:35 AM »
I have two customs I'm working on, but being fairly new at this, I could use some advice. I tried searching past threads about these topics, but I thought I should just ask.

I tried a FBR on a baity (sunburnt) Starshine probably a year ago. The paint (artist-quality acrylic) came out smooth, but it remained tacky and and almost immediately had lots of lint and dirt stuck to it. I suspect the paint was getting old when I used it, and I have better/newer paint now, but I'm not sure if that's really what the problem was that left it tacky. The inside also feels like it MIGHT be leaking plasticizer, but I'm not sure since most of the ponies I've opened (which is a lot) feel slimy or gross inside, yet few seem to have outward problems, so I don't know what to make of that. Maybe I just didn't clean it well to begin with.

Also, how do you put a clear sealer on a pony (or anything) without getting lint in it? It seems that whenever I've used any sort of clear finish on any surface, there's at least some obvious dust or dirt. I wash my brushes, yet it just seem to always be there.

I'm not sure I even like the somewhat-shiny look of a FBR anyway, but it's my understanding that black or dark blue dye can fade, bleed, and come out splotchy, especially when starting with a light color bait. So...any suggestions? I've heard people suggest dullcoat, but I'm not sure I want to buy something I'll only use once...money's a little tight right now and I'm mostly just using up supplies I already have.

My other bait is a Crumpet-pose fakie that I would like to add more holes for hair plugs to. How do I do that? I've read that some people use a hot needle to make new holes, which sounds like it should works since these fakies seem to have much softer plastic than the real thing, but I wanted to know if there's anything else people suggest. Also, how difficult is this to do? I want to know what I'm getting myself into before I start!

Pony Corral / FF and CF Sets...which should I keep?
« on: February 14, 2013, 07:24:46 PM »
I have a silly problem. I don't really like having duplicates (especially since I don't have a ton of space, although it's not a major issue), but I can't decide if I should consider the various releases of the original ponies duplicates or not since they're not exactly the same. So I was thinking I would just keep one set, but that might be a little complicated.

My childhood ponies, which I'm obviously not going to get rid of, include both FF Butterscotch and CF Blossom. I'm thinking maybe I would keep just a mix of each, depending on which I have in better condition, but I feel bad splitting up sets (though I don't yet have a complete set of either, so...). Also, I know these are so common, I'm not sure I'd even be able to sell any of them, especially if I try to sell the CF ones.

What would you do? Or would you just keep them all?

Pony Corral / Variant Baby Firefly? (Sparkle Pony)
« on: December 27, 2012, 09:03:24 AM »
I'm going through a friend's childhood ponies and found a Sparkle Baby Firefly with what seems to be the wrong tail. It's definitely original hair, but it's straight and light/bright orange (same as the orange on her kite symbol), while her mane is the curly golden-yellow like it's supposed to be. She's otherwise the normal Hong Kong version. I don't have a camera with me to take a picture, but it's very pretty (I'll see if I can borrow one later). Anyone ever heard of this before? Any idea if it would affect the value?

Pony Corral / Selling ponies and other 80s toys on Etsy?
« on: November 04, 2012, 07:25:38 AM »
I have a mix of ponies and other toys from the 80s, and I'm wondering how well these kinds of things sell on Etsy. I've listed sales here on the Arena in the past but have had mixed results since there's so many people selling, it's difficult to get your sales noticed for more than a day or two.

I have an Etsy account and have tried (mostly unsuccessfully) to sell some crafts and vintage jewelry, but I'd like to hear from anyone who has some experience selling vintage toys.

Off Topic / Anyone collect Smooshees?
« on: October 24, 2012, 05:27:07 PM »
I saw some at a thrift store today, but didn't know if anyone actually likes these. I don't know which ones they were, but I think one was one of these "Smugglers Secrects" and maybe one of the keychain ones above on the same page. http://www.ghostofthedoll.co.uk/Toys_Smooshees_Smugglers.htm#Secrets

Pony Corral / Pics of washed and saved factory curl?
« on: October 24, 2012, 01:47:40 PM »
Despite all the claims I've heard of people washing factory curl without ruining it, I seem incapable of doing this successfully myself, even though I've followed their directions. I'm beginning to think those who've said they've saved it have a very different definition of "still has factory curl" than I do.

So before I ruin any more, please show me pictures! Tomorrow (when it's dry), I'll show pictures of my latest failed attempt, so maybe someone can point out what I'm doing wrong.

Off Topic / New York Comic Con? (And anyone need a hotel for Sat.?)
« on: October 03, 2012, 04:58:52 PM »
Is anyone else here going to NYCC? I'll be there Saturday and Sunday with some friends...it's my first time going (although not my first con by a lot!) Any stuff I should know?

And does anyone need a last minute hotel for Saturday night? I've got room and figured it couldn't hurt to offer in case someone was still looking.

Pony Corral / preserving stickers?
« on: August 15, 2012, 09:14:09 AM »
I own exactly one G1 sticker, Sweet Stuff, and it's currently stuck to my Speedy. The glue has melted, so it will peel off easily enough, but I'm not sure what to do with it if I removed it. What would be the best way to preserve it? Just stick it on some acid-free paper maybe? I'm afraid to do that, though, since I guess that would be permanent.

Off Topic / Info about this 80s doll?
« on: August 14, 2012, 01:33:50 PM »
I've had her for as long as I can remember, but I know nothing about her. It's not on Ghost of the Doll, although it seems to be related to the TuggaBows link, but much smaller, 5-6". The tag says Amtoy, Little Wishes, and 1987. I found on eBay one other, but that's it. Were there more? Did they have names? Did they all look like fakie MoonDreamers?
