The Dollhouse / Took my dolls to the Botanic Gardens!
« on: August 24, 2013, 11:26:02 PM »
Today was a meetup at the Botanic Gardens with some local dolly peeps (you know who you are ;) ) and of COURSE, my freaking camera died.  Probably should have charged it beforehand.  :lookround:  But 4 other people let me use their cameras and have already uploaded some of the pics that I (or they) took on various cameras.  Wanted to share the cuteness that is my dollies!

Some are a little fuzzy or overexposed, it's super goofy trying to take pics with an unfamiliar camera.  But overall, I think I got some cute pics and it was a super fun day!  :D

The Dollhouse / Took a trip to DDE today. :D
« on: May 11, 2013, 04:48:57 PM »
Went to DDE today with my mom to find Brooke (my B&G Aurora) eyes and a wig so I can box her head up and ship it off to Xhanthi for a faceup (I managed to snag one of her commission slots this month!).

First, I found the most beautiful dark greyish/greenish/purplish/bluish eyes.  Then, I went through the wigs and kept picking up the same one over and over.  So I figured it had to be the one and I bought it too.  It's an insanely soft Monique Gold wig in a beautiful deep brown.  My mom was wandering around looking at things and found her a pair of adorable light blue flats that fit her feet and her personality perfectly!  So we got those too.  I'm so excited, she's beautiful.  :)  Tonight, her head gets boxed up with the wig and she'll be ready to ship first thing Monday!  I'm going to try to make her an outfit besides her tube dress (which was a gift from another doll lover at the meet when I bought her) before she comes home.

Terrible lighting, but they're just quick cell phone pics.  Brooke will get her first real photoshoot once she comes back with her face.

Even more exciting, I have my mom's birthday present lined up!  I had been trying to keep it a secret, but I really needed some input from her.  I asked the store owner to bring out a PukipukiPong Pong for my mom to see (it's the doll she keeps pointing out when she's looking at pics).  While she was playing with the doll and wigs, I asked about layaways and if I break the cost into 4 payments, I can afford to buy my mom her first BJD for her 55th birthday!  And I should be able to pay it off just in time to wrap up the box and give it to her.  If I can pay her off a little early, then I'll be able to surprise her with a faceup too (I'm getting a blank doll) and still have her on time for Mom's birthday.

:cheer:

I decided to tell her today about my plans, so she can start looking at outfits and wigs and figuring out what she wants to do with her (especially the face).  She's thinking champagne-themed, to live in the wine glass displays.  She's been texting me all afternoon she's so excited lol, and has already decided that she needs THREE!  :haha:  Bubbles, Merlot, and Semillon.  Champagne, red, and white wine themed.  She thinks maybe Ante for Merlot and has no ideas for Semillion yet.  XD

Customs / Coven for BLS!
« on: March 20, 2013, 11:41:20 PM »
Forever ago, BLS traded me some vintage LPS for a custom of her persona.  In what may have been the longest trade of my life, it took me forever to finish this pony.  But she was super patient with me and received her custom in the mail yesterday!  :D

Coven started out as a very baity Fizzy.  She had been painted ENTIRELY black and her eyes were all trashed.  So I had to remove all the old paint and her eyes before giving her an FBR and her symbols.  After several attempts to save the original eyes, I finally just replaced them with pink Swarovski crystals.  :)  She was haired in Pussycat, Virgin Snow, and Key Lime.  Sealed with Mod Podge Matte, with gloss on the eyes and symbol.

This was my first TE custom, I was pleased with how easy the eyes were.  :)

The Dollhouse / Hilarious conversation with my mom
« on: March 18, 2013, 10:42:54 AM »
So my mom always loved dolls as a kid and because of that, they were one of the few toys she'd spend real money on when my sister and I were kids.  We may have gotten cheap clearance toys the rest of the time, but we both had AG dolls, Bitty Baby, Barbies, some beautiful handmade Waldorf dolls, etc.  It was her toy splurge for us, because she enjoyed them as much as we did.

Fast-forward to today, my mom is the ONLY one who knows how much my BJDs cost.  When Nerine arrived, she rushed over to my home to be here to watch the box opening.  She likes to pose them and make them talk to one another.  It's actually pretty darn adorable to watch her be such a little kid.  She wants one of her own, but couldn't think of a good place to keep it.  A while back, I jokingly suggested that she get a Puki and it could live in the china cabinet with her wine glasses and be the little wine elf.  Turns out, she LOVES that idea and has her heart on Puki Pong Pong, who will get a burgandy wig and be named Merlot.  Well, last night we were talking about our (nonexistant) Pukis and she looks at me with a serious face and said "Well, I would need TWO, of course.  I wouldn't want Merlot to be lonely!"

:haha:

I cracked up and said she was doomed, but then we spent the meal discussing who else she would get (she likes Ante or maybe a Real Puki) and how that one would have to be white wine-themed.  She looked so happy, I think I might see if I can put $40 or so away a month and then buy her a Puki for her 55th birthday this summer.

Customs / Stork Swap Pony for Kaoskat!!!!
« on: March 13, 2013, 08:04:05 PM »
Kaoskat has received my box for the Stork Swap, so I can show off my creation now!  :squee: :lovey: :squee:

Of all the pairs that Kat had listed, Cotton Candy and Bow Tie seemed like the most fun.  After lots of sketches and ideas, I came up with this little one!  She started as really baity baby that I’m pretty sure was a Baby Cotton Candy at one point.  She had been dyed, painted, painted again, partially stripped, and was in desperate need of a new life.  Since Baby CC is Kat’s favorite pony, I decided that I wanted to use her anyway.

I gave her an FBR in a custom shade of purple, using paints that were good matches for CC and Bow Tie, to make sure that I had a color that made sense for her.  She was sealed in Mod Podge Matte with gloss on her eyes and symbol.  I tried something new and rehaired her in Tibetan Lambswool, which is super duper soft and loveable.

I wanted to make Kat an extra, so I decided to make a little pony-sized quilt!  I gathered up some fabric scraps in Kat’s favorite colors: blue, pink, and purple.  They’re also the colors of the parent ponies and the baby!  So I thought it was perfect!  But once I got to cutting my squares, I thought: “A little pony quilt would be cute, but I’ll make one big enough for her dolls to use!”  So I kept cutting.  Now, I’ve sewn plenty of full-sized people quilts before, so thought this would be a piece of cake.  But I always use a sewing machine; this time, I thought it would be fun to do it by hand.  The first night, I worked for 4 hours straight while babysitting and still didn’t have the top finished.  I snagged an hour here and there for the next week and finally finished it all up the night before the shipping deadline.  :faint:  It took about 22 working hours, but I wanted the little pony to arrive snuggly and now Kat’s dollies have a hand-pieced, hand-sewn, and hand-quilted quilt!  XD

Arts & Crafts Corral / Art Brag!
« on: March 07, 2013, 05:43:13 PM »
I don't often have the opportunity to commission our amazing artists because of funds.  But I desperately wanted a portrait of my dogs and did some browsing through the commission thread and the linked DA galleries.  I contacted flowersinherhair about doing a watercolor of my pups and I just can't keep the result to myself!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

She did an amazing job of getting the smallest details right, down to the exact markings of my dogs and their individual personalities (my girls are snuggly and Milo is a destroyer of all toys lol).  She even got their colors right; Milo always gets blue or green things, so he is sitting on those blankets.  Penny always gets lavender toys and sweaters, so she has a purple blanket.  And then Ava always gets everything in pink, so her blanket is pink.

I am thrilled with the picture and I can't wait for it to arrive in the mail so I can hang it in my living room!  :lovey:

I also recently commissioned sirithfin to draw me one of her adorable bumbles!  When I was a little kid, I had a doll named Babbity Bumble.  My grandma made us matching bumblebee outfits and I used to take her everywhere.  :)  So I asked sirithfin if she would be willing to make me a little baby bumble!

The Dollhouse / Impulse buy... I have an SD! O.o
« on: February 23, 2013, 11:10:54 PM »
So I went to my first BJD meet today and was talking to some of the other people about how I eventually wanted an MSD doll, but would likely never buy anything bigger.  Then I went and checked out the sales table, just for giggles.  I hardly had any money, so wasn't expecting to actually buy anything.  I kept finding myself holding this gorgeous SD-sized doll, playing with her, wishing I could afford her.  I asked who was selling her, she was tracked down, and we worked out a layaway where I am going to pay $50 a month for the next 6 months (unless I can pay her off sooner) and I got to take her home today!

So, literally less than an hour after I said I would probably never own a large doll, I bought my first SD on an impulse!  XD  She's a Boy and Girl Aurora and is just stunning.  I have no idea what I'm going to do with her, but she has so much potential!

She makes my other dolls look so darn TINY!  XD

Pony Corral / New pony shirt at Target!
« on: February 22, 2013, 06:30:54 PM »
While parousing through my local Target tonight after I left the gym (I needed a new water bottle), I saw something out of the corner of my eye - a pony shirt!  In the women's department, real women's sizes, cute, and G1!  It was $14 and I couldn't leave it behind.  I did a search and didn't see news about this one anywhere.  Anyone else see this particular shirt before?  I'm super excited to have a cute pony shirt that has the G1s and the original logo.

The Dollhouse / Nerine Spam! [SOOM Beyla]
« on: January 27, 2013, 06:59:06 PM »
So I met up with some local pony peeps yesterday and during a brief pony break, got some help putting Nerine's hooves and her regular hands on!!!!  Thankfully, Skyrocketneko grabbed her camera so I could take pics.  These were my favs:

Seriously though, could she be any more photogenic?!  :lovey:  The picture with her reflection is one of my favorites, I wasn't sure it would come out well but I'm pleased.  :)  Her horn is one that I had custom made for her on Etsy and it attaches with magnets.

Off Topic / Should I get bangs again?
« on: January 22, 2013, 10:04:55 PM »
I haven't had bangs in a while and I'm wondering if I should revisit them!  What do you think?

Recent pics, no bangs
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Older pic, with bangs (me on the right at the marching band banquet.  The other girl and I had worn the same dresses, which we only discovered to be different colors when the flash went off.  We were thoroughly amused.  XD )

I like how I look with bangs, I think they're super cute.  BUT, they are more work than what I have now and won't go into a ponytail as gracefully.  What to do, what to do?!

The Dollhouse / Need help naming my Beyla!
« on: January 14, 2013, 09:56:23 PM »
I've had my Beyla for a few days right now and I'm struggling to come up with a good name for her!  You'd think that after the years of wanting her, I'd have one already, but I've always referred to her as "Beyla" in my head and I'm having a hard time thinking of a unique one now.  :P  All my other dolls ahve had named before they arrived.

I was thinking a pretty (but not super obvious) flower name would be pretty.  She's obviously pink-themed, with her faceup and her hooves (pink blushing) and a pink horn.  Of the pink flowers, some pretty names that I've considered are Liatris, Nerene, and Sakura (but then I remembered that Kat has a Sakura :P ).  Nerine might be my favorite, but I'm not sure it's perfect.

I also considered pulling a name from Tolkien, since I'm a big fan.  Sure, they don't really have unicorns, but that's ok.

Anyone have any ideas for my beautiful girl?

The Dollhouse / SHE IS HERE!!!!!!!! *Beyla Brag*
« on: January 10, 2013, 06:53:23 PM »
After being put on the wrong plane, ending up in PA, being processed through several sort facilities before they realized that the box was at the wrong side of the country, put back on a plane, disappearing for a few days, and then getting stuck overnight at the local sorting facility, my Beyla FINALLY arrived today, safe and sound (thank GOD!!)!!

:squee:

She's bigger than I'd expected, which is fine by me!  I can't believe how beautiful she is in person, plus I got 4 wigs, several eyes, a dress, her hooves and tail, plus her jewelry.  Totally worth the $550!

*ETA* Photobucket is finally working, so here's the box opening pics!!!

It feels like I waited FOREVER to see this box in my mailbox. (I was also impressed that it was the original SOOM shipping box)

Moment of truth... the doll bag!  I was really relieved to see how padded it was, considering the adventure that USPS sent her on.

Here she is!!!  I was so thrilled that she was just as pretty as I had hoped, I was nervous!

I immediately changed her eyes to the purple ones (I much prefer eyes with pupils, lol) and tested out the unicorn horn that I had custom made for her!  Since it's just magnets, I can take it on and off whenever I want her to be a unicorn!  :D

I've seriously never seen such a pretty doll.  I mean, really.  Who looks this pretty with just a cell pic?

And a little experimental pic, with one of my Christmas ornaments.

As soon as I get up the nerve to restring her, I'll get her hooves on and take pics.  But I like her a lot as just a human too!
