Arts & Crafts Corral / Mold Making and Casting Experience?
« on: September 04, 2016, 11:54:33 AM »
If you have any experience with this, and if you're looking for some work, I have a project I need some help on!

I already have the figure that I need the mold of, so it's just a matter of having the mold created and casting it in a translucent color. The batch would be about 12 figures total, possibly a few more to determine the right color before proceeding with the final 12.

If you have any interest, feel free to PM me with examples of your work and your rates.

Thanks!

Pony Corral / Display Rooms - Form or Function?
« on: July 13, 2016, 10:55:29 AM »
I've completely redone my display room. Before, I had all 500-600 ponies on display along with hundreds of LPS and dolls, and a few dozen FSF. It was just too much. So, I bought 10 class cabinets and tastefully filled them. What does that mean for my collection? Well, only about 50 ponies are now on display, and a few dozen dolls. The rest are all carefully stored in plastic bins in the closet.

I feel much better about the room. It's cleaner, less dust, and you can actually enjoy the display. You can see entire ponies now instead of just their snouts! Yes, it means that 90% of my collection is not on display at any given time, but I'm making my peace with that. It just means that I'll rotate who is on display every few months, probably every season.

For me, I'd rather have form over function. While my previous layout was functional (I was able to display almost 1000 items) it had no form. Now, it looks more like you've walked into a museum or gallery space. It makes me feel soooo much better!

So, which do you prefer?

MLP Nirvana / PC on Piggy Algodoncete?
« on: June 23, 2016, 05:55:02 AM »
I'm planning to part with Algodoncete...

Piggy is in good condition. Still has lashes, no rust in eyes. Hair is on the dry side and is missing plugs at the base of the neck. Head was removed for cleaning at one time. There are some small grey blotches beneath hooves (invisible on display). My initial thought was rust, despite being grey and not brown, but the insides have been cleaned. Displays beautifully.

This is the only photo I have on hand. Hair is currently in an updo.

Pony Corral / The Groom a Pony a Day Challenge
« on: April 09, 2016, 12:26:28 PM »
I don't know about you, but I've been slipping when it comes to keeping my herd in check. Baths and dustings are needed all around, as is re-curling.

Anyone interested in a challenge where the goal is to groom a pony a day? I think it might be a helpful motivator.

*runs off to tidy up Brazilian Paradise and baby Argie Confetti, who just arrived in the mail*

MLP Nirvana / Miss Nirvana Universe - Gauging Interest
« on: April 09, 2016, 11:55:56 AM »
Good Day, my fellow Nirvana enthusiasts!

This morning I was thinking how fun it might be to hold a Miss Nirvana Universe competition. That is, users will enter photo(s) of their Nirvana ponies according to the country of origin, we will create a poll, and select a winner on a country by country basis. Then, once we have a representative from each country, we will have a contest with various photo challenges, etc, until we determine a winner via public opinion. It also might be a fun way to get non-Nirvana collectors more involved in the Nirvana forum!

So, a few questions...

1. How many would be interested in participating (entering as a contestant)?

2. What would you suggest in the way of rules? For example, I think it would be fair for the same user to enter different ponies for various countries, but there should be a limit. Also, there should probably be a limit for how many ponies a single user can have represented in the final competition. In an ideal world it would be one user per pony, but that doesn't always work out! It depends on how many participate, etc.

3. Ideas for challenges? I think this should be a mix of photos as well as creative writing challenges. It's not just about what your Nirvana looks like, but what is on his or her mind! hehe

4. Length of challenges and entry periods? I believe we have 17 countries represented (including princess variants) so I think the first month might be devoted just to narrowing down the finalist from each country. I don't want to overcomplicate things too much, though. Once we have our finalists, I think one challenge a week seems fair, where two ponies are eliminated each week. Otherwise, if we eliminated only one a week, it would take almost four months! Of course, anyone interested in participating would need to be able to spare a little time each week to put together their entry.

5. Ideas for prizes for the winner and runners up? I have some things I can contribute.

Looking forward to everyone's thoughts!

Price Check Archives / Pony wear and combs price check
« on: March 23, 2016, 08:56:49 AM »
Any help would be appreciated, as I'll be selling all this off.

The pink and white combs belong to piggy ponies from Spain, but I'm not sure if they differ in any other way from the American combs.

MLP Nirvana / Nirvana Restoration
« on: March 12, 2016, 05:56:22 PM »
Let's talk Nirvana Restoration!

For me, it depends on the condition of the pony. There are some I've never had a need to clean. Others, I've washed and/or removed tail rust, etc. I wouldn't say I've done anything drastic. I do have two (Peruvian Windy and Piggy Peachy) that were rerooted by the previous owners which doesn't bother me in the least. In fact, I adore Peachy in her long, wavy hair. She reminds me of Miss Piggy. hehe.

I think the only major restoration I've ever commissioned is the symbol restoration for my Spanish Milky Way (her symbols had disappeared altogether) but I don't feel guilty about it. She has been returned to her former glory. If I could go back, I don't know if it would matter as much to me. I think she looks just fine without them, but what's done is done...

Anyhow, I'm just curious as to your stance on, and experiences with, restoration.

P.S. Feel free to share before and after photos.
