Pony Corral / Ponies that don't exist... yet
« on: November 01, 2019, 09:06:15 AM »
Which ponies have, for some reason, never been made despite the obvious-ness of it? For example, there are no (officially made) pumpkin ponies! Pumpkin Tart is named that but she's not pumpkin themed, and while Autumn Crisp has a small pumpkin in her Cutie Mark, I wouldn't consider to be a pumpkin pony. I'm talking about a pony with a big detailed pumpkin symbol!

Another one? Donuts. Very popular pastry, zero ponies! A pony with a donut covered in pink frosting and cute sprinkles would make for a nice design! While I have brushables in mind, I thought maybe Joe from FiM had gotten a blind bag release at some point, but apparently not...

Lastly: Zodiac ponies. Birth stones were done okay, flowers have been done twice, we need something different for a birthday pony, and I'm surprised they never did a Zodiac line before. I think you could get creative with the symbols, names, and colours! Compare to something like "Pearl" or "Rose" which can be relatively restrictive, I think.

If they were to do jewel ponies again, I'd like them to do them in jewel tones. They'd be so pretty. :inlove: Heck, they don't have to be jewel-themed, just give me nice ponies that aren't pastels!

As for "exists but is underrepresented" ponies, I'd like more seasonal sets. G3's Winter Snow/Spring Fever/Sweet Summertime/Autumn Skye, for example.

Pony Corral / Russian Playskool G4s
« on: October 29, 2019, 11:05:57 AM »
I was talking to my Russian friend, she said she's been seeing these ponies in stores. She described them as "probably bootleg trash".

It's hard to tell with just a stock photo but here it is for any Playskool pony enthusiasts:

They're listed for sale here (and other sites if you search "Чпок-Скок") and it says the brand is 1TOY. Googling "1TOY" gives me links to a toystore in Malaysia. A listing on another site says "1toy" is a Russian brand, and "Чпок-Скок" looks like a line that also has these types of spring toys with Marvel characters.

Here's another stock image from the Yandex Marketplace (are you okay, Moondancer??):

Cheerilee's eyes are a bit small too. Are they legit? They're... interesting nonetheless.

Arts & Crafts Corral / Pony OCs and Designs (Pic Heavy!)
« on: October 23, 2019, 09:07:32 PM »
I was gonna make a post like this once I had more art, but I forgot that I made these edits of some of my OCs over the summer! They were a lot of fun to do and I think I'm getting better at it. I need to work on my other OCs someday! Lots of them in the G4 style, because it's the easiest, of course. ;)

While making this I didn't realise I had so many... oops...

Fairy Ring and Fairy Lights are sisters, of course, and I definitely play favourites. ;) I love Fairy Ring the most, though.

Next is Suncatcher and Night Folly. Suncatcher is based off of what I associate with rainy days, ironically. And Night Folly, it was just such a fun play on words! If she was a toy she would be a pearly pony, which I'm normally not into, but I think it would look amazing with that dark blue!

Here are the concepts of the both of them...

Here is Patch Note. I HAD to design her. I thought of the idea of a patchwork bug being her Cutie Mark and it was just TOO perfect. I don't have much use for her otherwise.

How do ponies play video games? Don't ask. Yes, I know Button Mash or whatever his name is exists.

Here is another green pony, Merry Macaron! Again, not much thought has gone into her actual character, I just wanted to design a macaron pony. I made an edit of her too that I can't seem to find...

Cabana Rain, based off of a supposed unused name from Hasbro. I'm a sucker for rain-themed grey ponies I guess! AND she's tropical theme... another one of my favourites! :P I've thought about redesigning her slightly, or at least changing her CM.

Here she is hanging out with Fairy Lights!

Bitsy! A chihuahua-inspired design because they're my favourite dog breed. I'm a cat lady, but chihuahuas are pretty much the same thing. ;) Her colours are so gorgeous, definitely one of my favs! I love all the warm colours, and the white...

Some ponies I made at random, based off random names. Brazen is kind of boring, Mousey is cute, however, I love the name "Star Prance" the most. But she needs a better design!

More "random" designs. I wanted to design ponies around more "unusual" pony colours, like tan and dark red. Chrysanthemum never grew on me, and I don't like her name, but I've drawn Fireside a couple times since.

Sundry and her daughter, Lagniappe. They run a gift shop together, a family business I suppose. I just really wanted to use these names, no idea what to really use for CMs. Does an iris look good for Lagniappe? Any ideas for Sundry?

Scaleshine. She was originally an adoptable I put for sale, but nobody was interested. She's mine now! I'm glad nobody wanted her, she's really grown on me.

Just in time for Halloween, Baby Skull and Baby Crossbones, a set of twins.

Baby Picnic, one of my few boys! I can't find his original art right now, but I recently gave him a couple more hair colours.

Last is Bells 'n' Whistles! Another reaaaaally old design, but I love her! She's over-the-top, and loves trying new things! This one is actually older than Skull and Bones.

That's it... for now! I know I have a lot more. Including another old concept for a family I made back in 2015. I've been wanting to redesign them again! Complete with a Daddy, another rare boy for the collection. :P And then I have G2-inspired OC that I designed back in 2013 I'd like to redraw!

Hopefully I didn't make any errors, I've been working on this post for what seems like an hour now. :lookround:

Pony Corral / Which Ponies Do You Think Look Good Aged?
« on: September 28, 2019, 06:48:47 PM »
As in, yellowed/faded/etc?

I was thinking about this because I tried taking pictures of my Gusty, and she's so dirty looking! I don't think she looks good like that at all. However, I do prefer Moondancer when she's yellowed, I like that greyish purple Seashell turns, and I think Lickety-Split looks better with whitish hair rather than pink. :)

Pony Corral / "Bloody" Pony or Plasticizer Leakage?
« on: September 18, 2019, 09:04:00 PM »
Back in May I bought some MIB Mexican G3s (Royal Bouquet and Rarity), and they've stayed in their package ever since, sitting in my closet. When I first got them, Royal Bouquet had some brown stuff on her, nothing major. Just a brown spot on her Cutie Mark. I thought it was a factory flaw or something.

Earlier today I was looking at them again, and I noticed it sort of... spread? Or at least more appeared. There's some on her neck and legs. My initial description of it, is that it sort of looks like how spilled soda looks like when it's dry and sticky. On second inspection, it has this reddish tint to it, and it's looks like some is coming OUT of her neck. The pictures don't show the true colour, it sort of looks like dried blood!

Rarity looks fine as far as I can tell, it's just Royal Bouquet that looks like this. I've heard about plasticizer leakage, but have never seen pictures of it. Only I've seen stories like, "oh I used to have this squishy pony, then she got all sticky, now she's rock-hard!". Is this what it looks like?

(I accidentally hit send...! I guess the post was pretty much done but still. And of course I was having fun about the "bloody" bit :P)

Pony Corral / Hair Colors on a Pony
« on: September 04, 2019, 09:30:21 PM »
Just thought this would be fun to see people's opinions. :P I was designing some new OCs and I always have a habit of designing ponies with 3-4 hair colours.

I like G1 ponies where they only have one stripe too, like Gusty or Powder! I like two-tone hair when the mane is a bit... asymmetrical? Like the aforementioned ponies or G2s. If it's half/half I'm not crazy about it. I usually don't like solid-coloured hair. Twinkle eyes all have ~4 colours in their hair which is why I like them so much. :)

Pony Corral / Ponies, but in 3D!
« on: August 21, 2019, 07:56:43 AM »
There's a new animated short on MLP's official Youtube channel about Pinkie having her own her own show. It's 3D animated which I'm pretty sure is the first time we've seen a 3D pony for an extended amount of time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLa8CAQKH-4

G3 had 3D animated commercials and the PC games had prerendered models, and G4 has had its share of 3D animated appearances too (Target Christmas commercials). G4 also has its mobile game with low poly 3D models.

It was confirmed back in February that the G5 movie "future MLP movie" is gonna be 3D so uh... have something to look forward to?!?

(The Facebook post said a "CGI" and people will say "oh that means computer-generated, and MLP is already computer-generated" but let's be real, no one uses the term "CGI" to refer to Flash/Harmony)

The animation is cute and well done, and while Pinkie herself doesn't look too bad, I don't like her hair, and Gummy looks... very not good. The most interesting part in my opinion is look at the bottom of her legs! Hooves!

Pony Corral / A funny thought about G5
« on: July 31, 2019, 12:09:25 PM »
I was gonna add this to my last thread but I thought it was really good so... what do you think is the probability that G5 will be leaked before it's formally revealed? I mean, it already kind of has, but with the toys? With G4s, all the time, you see listings on Aliexpress and Taobao months and months and months ahead of time before the toys are even listed for preorder on Amazon (that set with Minty afaik still isn't listed, yet Minty herself has been on eBay for awhile, I even bought one).

Maybe they'll be extremely strict on the matter, so that nothing gets posted too early, but...?

I guess they could show off illustrations ahead of time, like "Yes! G5 is here! Rejoice! Stay tuned for more news!", but in this hypothetical situation, we only have the artwork, and not the toys. So Hasbro would have to show off the toys as soon as possible before anyone lists it on eBay...

Ultimately I think Hasbro will show everything off before anyone else gets to, but I still keep thinking "what if", and the possibility is just too funny for me. But also kind of sad. :P

We have the Basic Fun repros, we had Mash 'Ems, we had Loyal Subjects vinyls, we have Hallmark ornaments, we have all sorts of other merchandise ranging from shirts to kitchenware to colouring books to headphones, and this year we even got a SDCC exclusive. Basic Fun collaborated with Stranger Things and saw great success with that. And recently, we got those weird repro G3s made by... whoever (imo it might be Hasbro due to the fixation on Mane 6 instead of the Celebration ponies or even the Core 7).

Now Hasbro is joining in on the Retro craze with their own ponies. They've even made them their own page on the official My Little Pony website. They see G1s are beloved, and they're only now realising it because it's profitable.

G5 has been in development since about 2016 as far as we know, and with the movie releasing in 2021 (assuming they don't delay it), they're probably actively working on the movie right now and working on concepts for the toys. I gotta ask, do you think the "Retro Hype" has affected how they're going about G5 at all?

I think it's all weird, and I'm not sure what it means other than "money". While Basic Fun is making the Retros because there's an obvious demand, when Hasbro is doing it, it comes off as cashing in. It feels shallow and disingenuous. To me, it seems like "no one is buying G4s anymore, but we still want to make Mane 6... I got it! Why don't we make our own Retro ponies?! Yeah! People are all over 80s ponies nowadays, people won't able to resist buying these!"

I also personally still think they're going to go with the ultra-stylized, big-eyed, brachycephalic ""ponies"" we've had. G5 is probably too far in development at the moment for them to potentially make them more horse-y or whatever. But maybe with G5, Hasbro could make a separate spin-off-or-whatever line, focusing on G1s or "retro-styled" ponies?

(I know the "What if Hasbro's Retros were G5" thread exists but this is different)

Pony Corral / Which Ponies Should Be Posed Differently?
« on: July 23, 2019, 09:27:26 PM »
I was thinking about how much I like Locket, but don't like the Dancing Butterflies pose because the hair blocks out the symbol easily. But then I thought about Sweet Stuff too. Sweet Stuff comes off as dainty, and the Gingerbread pose always looked more masculine to me. It fits Gingerbread fine, but it would've been cute to see Sweet Stuff in a shyer pose. And Fizzy I think would've been cute in a more playful pose like Mimic's!

Which ponies do you think don't match their pose at all, or what kind of alternate poses would you like to see them in?

I know a lot of people feel that way about Lemon Drop...

Pony Corral / Pony Generator!

I made a generator for ponies! I've never used Shindanmaker but it was fun.

https://en.shindanmaker.com/905741

It resets daily in case you don't like your initial result. Like what I got:

"Ragamuffin is a dark brown-coloured earth pony with cyan-coloured hair, a game theme, and a sparkly body."

I plan on changing some things and maybe adding some things in the future!

Trader & Shipping Support / (Resolved!) eBay STOLE My Money?
« on: May 17, 2019, 09:33:22 PM »
I HAD a legitimate $50 eBay giftcard. I tried to purchase something worth $40. I selected it and the first time I was in checkout it said it would pay for the full $40. I hit pay, I got an error saying the payment did not go through, so I tried again, making sure I didn't do anything wrong. I put in the giftcard number again and now it says it will only cover for $10 out of the fourty. Huh? I checked my balance on this card and there's $40 missing! It took the money I tried to use on that purchase that SUPPOSEDLY didn't go through. I looked at my activity, since pending payments will show up there, and there is nothing there. I looked at the listing because as you know, once you buy an item, it will be marked as bought. But it is not "bought". It's still at "buy it now" for $40.

The seller has 500+ transactions and a 98%, I wasn’t scammed. this is eBay’s fault. I checked my PayPal account to see if the money went into there instead of back onto my card for some reason but nope, no activity there either.

What am I supposed to do? I'm going to call eBay as soon as I can but I'm not sure how else to solve this or what eBay can do. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm livid. I rarely get angry but I'm shaking.

Moving this to Trade Support for you. Snork Maiden, WYP mod

Pony Corral / What becomes of baby ponies?
« on: April 02, 2019, 10:32:08 AM »
There are a lot of ponies in G1 that have baby-themed symbols. Rattles, baby toys, bibs, what have you. G3 had a couple with the So Soft babies. What happens with these ponies when they grow up? Or maybe they're special and never grow up, they're just babies forever?

To be fair in G1, ponies aren't as enslaved to their symbols as G4s are, but they're still tied to them in some way. Why would there be adult ponies with baby-themed imagery for symbols walking around? Could they grow up to be babysitters and caretakers? For example the Surprise Twins pony's symbol could be taken like she's a good mom, but if you read into it more it comes off as her entire purpose is to give birth. :silly:

Pony Corral / G4 Hair Quality Comparison
« on: March 25, 2019, 09:57:42 PM »
I recently bought a G4 Starswirl who I love! She's just gorgeous. She's sitting in the front of my shelves along with my G4.5s, and I got a new G4.5 the other day.

I got the Pinkie Pie that came with hippogriff Princess Skystar. I was already taking pictures of them for a blog update and I decided to take comparison shots of Pinkie vs. Starswirl. In case you've heard about the horror stories about new pony hair but have never seen it... and don't want the displeasure of owning a G4.5... here you go!

Yes, Pinkie's hair is actually brushed in these pictures. They really do come out of the box looking like this. Starswirl, nearly a decade old, still has her minty, neat, factory curls, and a brand-new, straight out of the box Pinkie from a recent set has a factory mess.

I didn't take pictures before brushing, but I assure you it was about the same. However, I did take before and after pictures of the Rainbow Dash I got a couple months ago.

Pony Corral / G5: Realistic Predictions and How To Succeed?
« on: March 06, 2019, 08:18:01 AM »
A lot of people talk about what they would do if they were in charge of G5, or what they would like, and there's a thread dedicated to this as well, but given what we know and current trends, what do you think we can expect from G5, realistically? My guesses:

  • They WILL keep the Mane6. I don't want this, not a lot of people do. Collectors are burnt out, a lot of bronies are burnt out, everyone would just rather have the Mane6 retire and we can move on to a brand-new cast. And those who do like the Mane6 don't want them to be reinvented because they like the current versions so much. I could maybe see them making new characters over the backlash (I think there was an email leaked somewhere about the fans' response to G5 and whether to listen or not), but I wouldn't hold my breath for that. Expect Pinkie Pie to return.
  • More variety. Not because I'd like that, but because it's what's popular now with things like blindbags/surprise toys.
  • Blindbags/surprise toys, assuming kids won't be burnt out by them next year or 2021.
  • Slime. In general I predict they'll try to be more trendy. Scrap Pinkie being a pegasus. Pegasuses aren't marketable. They'll make her a unicorn instead, with rainbow hair!
  • Big eyes!! Biiiiiiiiiiiig eyes!
  • Tiny muzzles! Kiss your normal horse noses goodbye! Chihuahuas/deer are here to stay!
  • Out-there prediction that I think makes sense: A younger, teenaged cast. Why have a character be a businesswoman when she can be in a theater class? Why freak out about the Gala when the cast can freak out about prom? Kids love high school. Put the ponies in fantasy high school. Maybe something similar to what Filly Funtasia is doing? Or the School of Friendship? So they're still in high school, doing teenager things, but still going on adventures.

A lot of things like quality (terrible hair, awful decals, seams galore, and flimsy playsets) are something to improve on, heck, something they NEED to improve on, but I don't think they care about that as long as they can get as many overpriced horses into the hands of little girls as possible. What are your thoughts? From a business standpoint, what do you think they'll do with the new generation of My Little Pony?
